Pick Up Stix Fresh Asian Flavors
5105 Candlewood St, Lakewood, CA 90712, United States
Pick Up Stix is a little pricy, but they often offer BOGO free w/drink coupons via email or in the Sunday paper. Hence, thats when I usually go here. Most of the food is really good!My usual suspects-House specialsBuddhas feast (with tofu for an additional cost)Garlic/Honey-glazed ChickenThe new Korean sesame sirloin noodle dish.Everything is wok-fired fresh & cooked in minutes.Stay away from the pad thai. It seems to be instant pad thai, and is a paltry facsimile to real pad thai.Customers have the option of white or brown rice. I usually go for brown because I never eat it otherwise. Its a nice change of pace. In my opinion, its as if rice & oatmeal had a baby. Thats the best I can describe it.The restaurant itself is usually pretty clean, has a nice decor and possesses ample seating indoors & outdoors. The decor is pretty chic, too.Dont forget to crack open your fortune cookie
WaBa Grill
4144 1/2 Woodruff Ave, Lakewood, CA 90713, United States
Foodie Fozzy says WaBa, WaBa, WaBa!!Looking for another place to eat & review, a hot & humid Saturday had us stopping by the nearest newly opened WaBa Grill in Lakewood.Clean, modern-looking décor with ample table seating is what my eyes spied as I first walked in. Loved the refreshing full blast A/C to cool off on a sweltering day. Perusing the options, I knew I would get a plate.Steak plate-Well-done strips of beef w/WaBa sauce, salad, choice of white or brown rice & an orange for dessert. A hearty & healthy meal, the WaBa sauce wasnt cloyingly sweet. While I much prefer it rare to medium-rare, the beef was good. I loved the fact that brown rice is available at no additional charge. The salad provided the greens & roughage, while the tart orange gave a nice ending to my non-fried meal.A condiment bar lets diners load up on Waba sauce (teriyaki & hot), green onions, pickled carrots & jalapenos, and lemon slices. Being an onion lover, I availed myself of a heaping helping of green onions, of which I basically used to make a green onion salad on top of my steak plate. Good for you & crunchy to boot! Other menu options include salmon, shrimp & tofu. The sole unisex restroom was clean & tidy. Service was good. The cashier was friendly & seemed to be happy to be working there, which is refreshing. Attitude is everything!Parking is in a private lot shared by a bank, United Boardshop, Glory Days Sports Bar & other businesses.WaBa Grill offers up healthy & tasty meals in a pleasant environment. While not taking the crown from my beloved Yoshinoya, what WaBa has going for it is that brown rice is available at no additional charge, minimal wait & the food was filling & satisfying. I enjoyed my meal while listening to Train, LifeHouse & the Red Hot Chili Peppers on the house speakers. We received coupons for a free chicken bowl with purchase of a plate & free fountain drink with purchase of a bowl/plate. Ill definitely stop by soon to redeem them whenever my tastebuds scream WaBa, WaBa, again.Highly recommend!NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM

Mochinut - Long Beach
1936 N Lakewood Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90815, United States
Showed up at 10:22 - doesn't open til 10:30 - (weird for a donut shop IMO) ok. took a stroll come back at 10:30 as employee is unlocking door - we walk in and she says to us “I'm not really ready yet” ok. So I asked her when we should come back she said give her a few minutes. We wait outside - while she painfully slowly unstacks the chairs for outside seating. No hustle at all. We left. Decent customer service would have been - “hi I'm so sorry would you mind giving me a few minutes I'll be with you shortly.” Better customer service would have been to take our order and give it to us (2 min tops!) and then proceed to unstack chairs afterwards. There was no one behind us. They still get three stars because their products are still worth the visit - hopefully customer service will be better in the near future.

On 3/31/19 I went in to make a purchase and I wanted to use a merchandise credit card that I hadnt used yet. The cashier told me to swipe the card like 3 times under what it looked like a purchase with a gift card but it wouldnt go through. So then she asked me to try again because she had it under the wrong section. I swiped the card again and it said merchandise credit on the screen, she said to swipe the card one more time. Cashier then says oh there is no money on this card. So I told her that I was a little confused because I know for sure I hadnt used this card. I was extremely certain that I had money on it. Cashier then paiged the manager over. The manager comes takes a look at the screen and says oh its not going through because there is no money on here she printed a slip showing a zero balance on the card. She said let me give you guest services number. I calmly said ok no problem I will just give them a call and find out whats going on. I bought the products anyway. So later that day I called and spoke to Fabian, he said that there was no shopping history on the card and that when they had me swipe it more than once it actually deleted the funds from the card. He said he was going to send a report to the store so I can go back and get the money back on it. The next day 4/1/19 I went it and spoke to the same manager that I spoke to yesterday and I explained what Fabian had told me. She was very defensive and had a lot of attitude, she showed no concern in trying to help me fix this problem, she said that she didnt know what he meant by the funds being deleted on my card and that they did NO such thing. I asked her to please call guest services and speak to someone. She went to the back room or something and after a few minutes another employee brings their phone to me and has me speak to Tomy, a woman from South Carolina. Tomy said that Fabian did not know what he was talking about and that they cannot check merchandise card balances on their system. I felt like an idiot, confused, cheated, no one seemed to want to help me figure out why there was no balance on my card. Tomy offered a phone number to call and get a card balance. Again, I was confused because thats the reason I needed their help, because the card had zero balance. I called this number and spoke to a man who was super friendly and was able to check the history of the card. He said that there were no purchases done with this card and that when the cashier swiped my card twice it actually erased/voided the money on the card which is what Fabian had told me. He was able to put the money back on the card. THANK GOD! I went back inside ulta and got a balance inquiry from an employee on the register. I wanted to make sure the money was there and it was. The manager was no where to be found. She didnt even come up to me and ask me if I had been helped if the problem was resolved. I didnt even get an apology. SHE WAS RUDE, DEFENSIVE AND MADE ME FEEL LIKE A LIAR. I wonder if Ulta even trains their employees proper usage of merchandise credit cards. How many times have they done this to customers? ? I was so frustrated and angry that I had to go through all this just to fix a mistake that the cashier made. I dont even feel like shopping at ulta anymore.
Chinitos Tacos
11130 Del Amo Blvd, Lakewood, CA 90715, United States
Chinitos, dya have good burritos?*Social Distancing Review*Occupying the former location of Nuddlehaus, Chef Beeline Krouch established a restaurant that serves up Mexican fare, with a Cambodian twist. In search of new culinary adventures, I stopped by Chinitos Tacos to pick up lunch and see what this spot was all about. The Thai tea horchata was served in a water cup, and meant only as a sampling size. The taste was Thai tea, with a fair amount of cinnamon.Ordering is simple - pick tacos, burrito or a bowl. Then choose the protein. Finally, sides & extras.Although tacos are on the marquee, my interest was piqued with their fire cauliflower. Also, when I saw pics of their keto-friendly burnt cheese tacos, I knew I had to have that, as well.Burnt cheese barbacoa taco ($4.50)-Imagine this - a taco shell made completely of burnt, crunchy cheese! The best of a lasagna or take out pizza, served as a taco! The barbacoa was tender, and while not a completely generous amount of ingredients, the burnt cheese taco was delightful to eat. Pricey, yes, but good.Fire cauliflower with carnitas ($8.75 + $2.50)-Another great pick! The fire cauliflower is battered & fried cauliflower, topped with pickled red onions & scallions. As I was eating them, dipped into one of the three accompanying sauces, I could almost imagine I was eating hot wings. Similar, but not quite, texture, and a good amount of heat. The added carnitas were a large portion, succulent & completed an already great dish.Happy Hour is Tues - Fri 4pm - 7pm, which has tacos starting at the reduced cost of $2. If you can make it, thats when you should definitely go.Service was good. The cashier was friendly, and the wait for my food wasnt too long, as everything is made fresh to order. Parking is at the Gordon Ranch Plaza, which is usually difficult to come by, but with recent events, wasnt a problem. Additional street parking can also be found across Del Amo Blvd., adjacent to the commercial building.Chinitos Tacos, heres to creativity! An inventive menu, which includes keto tacos/bowls & a cheese lovers wet dream of burnt cheese tacos, is why you stand out amongst the crowd. I have designs on ordering the loaded tater tots & garlic roasted brussel sprouts upon my next visit. Im looking forward to coming back & I highly recommend everyone check you out.
Thai Villa Restaurant
5921 South St, Lakewood, CA 90713, United States
This would be a good Valentines Day restaurant especially if you have a load of money because theres Tesla charging stations in the parking lot. I enjoy the atmosphere this karaoke I wish I would have participated in but I was too hungry to contribute. The food they could have been better but the atmosphere was amazing and also the service is great young man he seemed very focused and the owner was very focused its serving as I really enjoyed her company. Its good to go into a restaurant in the people are very warm and friendly towards you. The pad thai and their fried rice be unfortunately I didnt take pictures of but fortunately it was good. I think its hard for a Thai in big cities because theres so much competition everybodys making Thai food not only even taught. If you have a chance to check out a local store I think this place is going to be very popular because of the Tesla charging stations they were just ran to Tesla people walking in buying random Thai food I thought that was amusing. I know they enjoyed it.
Hong Kong Chef
10311 Lakewood Blvd, Downey, CA 90241, United States
I was wandering the streets as my stomach was telling me to get some grub, so I see this Hong Kong place and my face lit up. I go and it feels authentic. I feel the atmosphere, so I sit down and almost right away I was served hot green tea and a small cup. I serve me a cup and it was great. Typical green tea, pipping hot. This is where it starts to go a little souf. I ask for an ice water and was given room temp tap water with no ice. Okay, Ill drink it its fine. Then these two women walk in almost immediately asking to be seated as they were on their lunch break. The server had to tell a customer to forfeit his table as he was leaving, they apologized but there were other empty tables, why did the customer who was already on his way out, was rushed out. Anyways, the part that got me is that these two new customers get immediately serviced and even got their food before I got my appetizer!! (I ordered before they got seated). My meal was the lunch special (served 12-3pm for $9.50 tax included) which came with tea, biscuits (fortune cookie at the end), soup, rice and your choice of meat. The soup was the best part. It was piping hot flour soup, first time trying it and will ask for it in the future. It was flavorful with tofu and egg with a nice warm homeish flavor. I was EXCITED for the meat and rice. I was horribly let down. I got the beef and broccoli side with the rice. The rice portion was really good, actually some might say too much, but there was absolutely no flavor to the rice. I know white rice is supposed to be somewhat flavorless, but Im talking about it felt like I was chewing on nothingflavor and swallowing a mass. Their hot sauce was FANTASTIC, added amazing spices and flavors without being too hot so you could put a good portion to have the added texture of the seeds and the vinegar boost. I had to add quite a lot for the rice to be saved. Here we go with the meat. I was disappointed here aswell. The broccoli was cooked to perfection, however. Crispy enough but cooked enough so it melts with the teriyaki sauce, which by the way was also pretty good but it was somewhat runny and lacked a distinct flavor profile. I added the excess sauce on the rice so there was more flavor. And the meat, I can say it was cooked to perfection as well. A little bite but melts in your mouf. I had to constantly do a base of rice, one broccoli, one piece of meat, and a scoop of the chili sauce for it to be a decent spoonful. Overall, this is a good meal to get filled up with but it severely lacks flavor. The soup and chili sauce were the saving grace. As a side note, I asked for a second cup of water with ice and got it, it was good. I asked for a third cup and she glanced at me. (The cups were like three gulps worth, small cups) She then opened the tap where they were cooking and washing their dishes and filled the cup. I didnt drink that cup of water. I would like to give this place a second chance but Im not sure if itll be worth another $10 to be disappointed by the entree. This was a rough one, but I dont regret it. The stage was set, and authentic but the cook just wasnt adding the right flavors, albeit they did phenomenal on the cooking.
