CP Restaurant & Lounge
2800 West Coast Hwy, Newport Beach, CA 92663, United States
Dealing with this restaurant was the worst experience of my life last night. We put on a fundraiser for Foster kids there for 120 people. The owner Jack started yelling at us before the event started, changing what was agreed upon and continued to be unprofessional and yelling all night at us. They didnt let our patrons park in the parking lot! They had encouraged us to have live music but then last night said they couldnt sing or play the music through the microphone! All of the performers had called in advance to check on the equipment too! They didnt provide the food we had agreed upon and paid for. Many people did not like the food either. They ran out of plates so served paper plates. The wine glasses they served were plastic and dirty! They said they would donate a $100 gift card and did not come through. A few days before the event they said we had $3,000 bar minimum and the night of said other people not in our event didnt count towards it. The night of said we had to have a 2 drink minimum per person also. They forced our people to wear wristbands that night to keep it separate. They said they had enough tables for our raffles but in the end we had to rent tables to bring in. They were completely unreasonable to deal with and did not keep their word. Both Cindy and Jack changed things the day of and were mean.I personally do not ever want to step in that place again! Ive never been so insulted and mistreated by a business owner.
Shanghai Pine Gardens Restaurant
300 Marine Ave, Newport Beach, CA 92662, United States
We made a reservation here for Xmas dinner, but we were not seated for 30 minutes. The food did not get to our table after we placed an order for an additional 45 minutes. 75 minutes (with a reservation) until ONE dish got to the table is a nightmare.3 other tables that were all walk ins without reservations were served their food, paid and LEFT, before we even got 1 main dish. HOW.The time between the soup and appetizer was another 25 minutes! We also ordered drinks, 4 times but they still did not bring them to the table, until we asked one of the bussing staff members to grab them for us.It appeared that there was only one woman allowed to be taking orders. She did not know how to prioritize or organize at all. You could tell the kitchen was a mess, even with a limited xmas menu. She forgot to place our order correctly with the kitchen also and came back to our table to take the order again, which was a very bad sign. They do not have an effecient system at all. If they can not handle their own dine in customers on a busy holiday they should also limit their take out to not overwhelm the kitchen. So many people were just standing around IN the restaurant waiting for their take out for a very long time. They also sat a table of 4 directly in front of a fire exit. The dining experience was overall very uncomfortable. The soup came out barely warmed, and the appetizer too. And the food following was mediocre. The Mapo tofu had no flavor (like a light soy sauce at best) not spicy and tasted nothing like what its supposed to. The schezuan eggplant was also not spicy at all like the traditional dish. This place is more like American style Chinese food in case anyone was wondering what to expect. On any other day we may have enjoyed this spot. But because of how neglected our table was I dont think we would come back. The woman was not friendly at all, no apology, almost like they didnt even notice we had been there for over an hour twiddling our hungry the thumbs at the table.Overall, the food was just not anything special vs the price and dining experience.
P.F. Changs
1145 Newport Center Dr, Newport Beach, CA 92660, United States
I was visiting my sister in Orange County and we were both craving good Chinese...so of course PF Changs was on the list. I ended up with a waitress named BreAnna as my server. She was amazing and, truly, was mostly responsible for the great experience my sister and I had there. Mel contributed to the rest of our experience by simply being accommodating when my sister annoyingly asked her to wait on us even though we werent her responsibility. Not only was she gracious, but she was also kind enough to tell me my apologies for my sister were unnecessary, haha. And to top it all off, the meal ended with a visit from the restaurants manager, Coryn. I initially thought she was just another super friendly patron until I realized she was demanding that BreAnna and Mel made sure we enjoyed our time, but they didnt need much prodding anyway. Coryn was incredibly personable and I even forgot that she was there to work. I may have met my new best friend on the west coast...but the drinks served by Zach and Cougan make them a really close second. Suffice it to say, I overstayed my welcome but only because of this amazing staff serving an amazing meal. I will definitely be back!
San Shi Go Sushi & Omakase Newport Beach
205 Main St, Newport Beach, CA 92661, United States
This is THEE place to get amazing Sushi. Ive had Omakase from many other great places like Oshima, Nana San, Shunka, Nobu Malibu, and Gos Mart, but I have to say that San Shi Go is my favorite. Ive been here 3 times and my experience here has only gotten better every time.TLDR: Hidden gem, fantastic food, amazing staff & chef, ask for Hiro, take the ferry!I love that it still feels like a hidden gem, so you dont have to worry about waiting. Granted that the times Ive been have been during the weekday...First, the ambiance is nothing that wows you, its a typical sushi restaurant with a bar that seats around 15 people or so, and a few more tables on the side to hold more. But for me, I dont come here for the ambiance, nor do I care to pay for it, if I did, I can go to Nobu. The food is amazing, the chefs taking their time to prepare and plate each dish delicately. Each chef plates/prepares their dishes differently from one another, they just share the same seasonal ingredients that they get. They genuinely care about serving you the best food they have to offer.Aside from normal Japanese sushi fair, they have 2 Omakase menues, raw fish or cooked items. You cant go wrong with either one, just depends on what youre in the mood for. This isnt to say that after your Omakase meal, you cant make special requests.By far the reason why this places beats out the rest, is the atmosphere & rapport that the staff & chefs build with you. Ive been here 3 times, and every time has been with my man Hiro! Hes a great guy that is humble, funny, and the most amazing Chef ever! He straight up fed my GF sushi with his hands, so I think that makes us family now?Not to say that you dont get to meet other people, weve talked to the owner Daiske (hope I spelled that right) quite a few times, and loved all the stories that hes told us about from his previous jobs and about all the other Sushi chefs that hes friends with and known for 15+ years. If youve actually read through this long review and plan on going, here is my tip, straight from Daiskes mouth!!Sit at the sushi bar, and eat the sushi with your hands (its a fun experience!). At the beginning, youre given a towelette, dont let them take it away, keep it around to use after each sushi round. Daiske explained to us that eating with your hands enables you to put the entire sushi in your mouth to enjoy all in 1 bite, so you allow all ingredients to harmonize in your mouth. They dont consider it rude to eat with your hands, instead they actually respect you more, because you actually know how to enjoy sushi. And that they dont usually tell customers because they dont want to disrespect any of their customers, but feels they do a disservice to their customers if they dont let them in on this little cultural secret.Theyve said that once the sushi has been prepared for every second you dont eat it, the sushi changes, the rice can fall apart, and the temperature of the rice alters the taste of the fish. You can believe me or not, but its fun and offers a different experience.

Disgusting nasty people! Went by to use the restroom and then get some grub but they were so nasty & rude about using the bathroom first before ordering type of deal that I left and did not even order from them. I will NEVER go back nor will I ever go to another flame broiler again as they arent even that great anyways. ???
Kokiyo - Newport Beach
4525 West Coast Hwy, Newport Beach, CA 92663, United States
Geez..... what do I have to say about this place. I was really excited to try this place out due to some buzz on TikTok, boi this was the biggest let down I have ever experienced. We went on May 15th around 7p.Upon arrival we did not receive a greeting or nothing; although they did have a substantial line and were pretty busy. To order they expect you to place your own order at a kiosk, which is no problem I dont mind but if thats the case orders should be flying out to the customers. Nah nah nah nah...... they thought a 45 minute wait was okay. No apology or acknowledgement of the wait, okay Ill take it. But if you are going to make me order myself and wait 45 minutes this food better be bussin bussin. Nope DOG WATER. There were a total of 4 workers working but only 2 struggling in the kitchen 1 of which was the owner. Im just saying but if I have a line out the door and were are in the middle of a rush wouldnt you want all hands on deck and not 2 workers in the back doing god knows what?We ordered 1 Creamy Ramen w/ Chashu and 1 Clear Ramen w/ Chicken, and finally potstickers. To start with the Creamy ramen it was not creamy..... and the broth tasted bland and like pork water. No depth of flavor and barely any salt. Im sure dog water probably had more flavor than this. Noodles trash. Ramen noods are supposed to be nice and curly with some chewiness to allow for the broth and aromatic oils to be scooped up as you eat. Bruh these were like spaghetti noodles ahhh heck no!!!!! Clear ramen was worse. This ramen was on another level of bland. Now on to the potstickers; I wouldnt know how good they were since they ran out. When we placed our order we didnt know that they were sold out if I knew I wouldnt have ordered them. Upon recieving my order we were not told as well. So they were going to take our order and not offer an apology or acknowledgement hmmm sus. On top of that when I brought this up to THE OWNER he said he would refund and continued to apologize profusely. I dont want an Im sorry I want you to be better. It is May 22nd and I have yet to receive my refund on potstickers. Im not pressed about the money, Im pressed about the experience. The last point I want to make is that this place has a total of 3 items on their menu. If thats the case you would think these 3 would be exceptional. We tried both types of ramen and they were lackluster and we didnt receive potstickers so if 2/3 of your menu was not great then what does that say about your establishment and at that point what excuse do you have for a 2/5 stars. This place has potential to be a great hole in the wall which I see from the great review but suffers from poor organization, lack of customer service and flavor. Plenty of my concerns would be disregarded if the ramen was bussin bussin or the customer service was amazing. But nah. 2/5 Ill be back May 15th 2025 to give them another shot but until then I stick with Hiro Nori and Kitakata Ramen.
Pick Up Stix Fresh Asian Flavors
1112 Irvine Ave, Newport Beach, CA 92660, United States
When PS first opened it was great it actually had Asians preparing Chinese food, now it is prepared Hispanically. The interesting thing is that the food all tastes exactly the same wherever you get it or who ever prepares it, just like a bowl of Ramen! PS was bought out by a big corporation several years ago, since then they 1- upped their prices, 2- reduced the portion sizes, 3- stopped sending promotions to loyal customers and 4- decided that Customer Service went from the Customer to them along with the Customers money. I used to go there 3 times a week, every week. We laughed about needing a PS fix. Now I dont go there at all. Try Shanghai Pine Gardens on Balboa Island. Bigger portions, lower prices and traditional Chinese food.
Pick Up Stix Fresh Asian Flavors
1614 San Miguel Dr, Newport Beach, CA 92660, United States
I ordered my usual, Vegetarian Fried Rice at this Pick Up Stix to go. I also asked the gentleman to make sure they use a clean wok. There was no one else at the restaurant. However, it took him a good five plus minutes to share the order with the cook (I think the cook was somewhere in the back.) And another ten minutes for the preparation. I was just happy that they made fresh Veggie Fried Rice that I really enjoyed. The place is clean and comfortable! I will be stopping by at this restaurant in the future.
WaSa Sushi & Teppan
1346 Bison Ave, Newport Beach, CA 92660, United States
Serendipitous!Nestled in an unassuming facade, neighboring Panera and Planet Beauty, one can easily overlook Wasa by its location. However, Wasa Sushi and Teppan is an extraordinary sumptuous restaurant that provides utmost cuisine. The evening started with meeting our lovely host Cindy, who showed great care and attention to detail. 3 appetizers, Spicy Tuna Tartare, Hawaiian Poke Tuna and Hot Sesame Oil Halibut Carpaccio, ensued. All 3 appetizers were delicious, but the slightly spicy Halibut was extra special as it gave a good kick in the tongue that begged for more. We were very happy that the evening started well with such great-tasting food.Teppan Chef David then introduced himself, demonstrating his excellent knife and cooking skills. For Teppan appetizers, we had Jumbo Prawns that were easily in the U5-10 size that were extremely high in quality. Our scallops were well-Seared outside but very tender inside, not to mention the garlic butter Calamari that makes me salivate as I am writing this review. For Teppan entrees, the Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection with Chimichuri sauce that added special flavoring. Zabuton, commonly referred to as Wagyu steaks, provided a slightly contrasting meat texture to the Filet Mignon. Lamb Chops are generally gamey for my taste, but these were excellent nonetheless. For vegetable and sides, Shiitake Mushroom with parsley butter, Fingerling Potato with Bacon and Zucchini were excellent compliments to our entrees. Moreover, a noteworthy stand out was the Bacon Fried Rice. Fried rice at Teppan restaurants are usually fillers and not paid attention to. But this was one Fried Rice that had excellent flavoring combination in a way that I had never tasted before. You must try it, as it rekindles lifes special moments. As for dessert, the Tempura Ice Creams crunchy shell on the outside contrasted the texture of the ice cream was extremely memorable as well. All in all, Wasa Teppan and Sushi was a special serendipitous find. If this food was in Yamashiro in the Hollywood Hills, the price would have easily doubled or tripled. It was a night where our taste buds were treated as royalty and it made an ordinary day feel tremendously special. Quoting the movie Hitch, Life is not the amount of breaths you take, its the moments that take your breath away. This was one of the moments that took our breaths away.P.S. Special shoutout for orders of Salmon Sushi to finish off. Our son was extremely happy and full. Thanks to Lynn too for the company.
Flame Broiler
3601 Jamboree Rd ste. 5, Newport Beach, CA 92660, United States
BEWARE OF THIS LOCATION‼? When I arrived I saw two employees (male and female) were inside sitting at a table and were eating? As I entered they both got up from the table then the female assisted me at the register. Meanwhile the male employee started preparing my order. I noticed he did not wash his hands and was still chewing food? The female was cordial then I waited for my order. While waiting I noticed the sauce trays were dirty, the raspberry ice tea was empty and the employees had left their food/mess on the table they were eating at. During my visit there were no other customers in the store. PLEASE UNDERSTAND its a major health code violation when employees dont wash their hands before they prepare customers food‼ I was so grossed out by the event I couldnt even eat my food so I guess I waisted 10 dollars? Please train your employees on health code standards‼ there should be a designated location for them to take breaks. Seeing them eating in the lobby while on the clock is not a great visual for customers?
