Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ
14181 Newport Ave, Tustin, CA 92780, United States
My boyfriend and I have been to many other Gyu Kaku locations (Cerritos, HB, SD, etc), but this was by far the worse weve been to. Originally went to HB location but they were full, so we called the second nearest close to us and they said there was no wait.We ordered the Ultimate and began ordering. Meats/sides took forever to arrive (I never got my hot water even asking twice), and all the workers there always avoid walking by the tables and seem to be chatting/hiding in the back area. Always had to ask for grill changes, water refills, and if we needed more food because they wont do anything unless I ask. I noticed a few workers look over our table (obviously needing grill changes, no food, etc.) but still would not do anything. Mind you, it was not super busy at all. There was no wait outside. Also was told that they were out of beef tongue (limit one in the Ultimate menu), so why didnt they bother to tell us that when we told them we were going to order the Ultimate menu? To add on top of that, when we wanted to order the dessert on the Ultimate menu, the Manager (assuming he was based on his attire) told us AGAIN that it was ALSO sold out. I was not in the mood to make a scene or argue, so I just looked at my boyfriend like ???? This guy??? lol.I usually leave quite satisfied with Gyu Kaku, but this made me want to never come back. It might be the management, but the staff needs to be retrained or something. Im only giving two stars because I noticed there were two Asian female workers that were attending the neighboring tables with much more positive/helpful energy.I guess we were super unlucky that the manager (and the rest) was in charge of our table. He literally sat us down and never came back. We had to ask another staff for our server so that we can order more (but he never came). I see why theres no wait for this location. The meats were also super marinated and salty than usual. I ended up enjoying the sides (spinach, mushroom) more than the meat. Their egg soup was also super watery. I do not recommend it. It was the saddest egg soup ever.TLDR: super slow service/food to come out, servers just ignore you, servers have an I dont care aura, staff does not bother telling you certain items are sold out of the ayce menu,Do not recommend coming here. Just wait for other locations.

A new Japanese restaurant with delicious free flan. Yum.Im a big lover of Japanese food and always looking for new places to try. I found Uoko on Yelp and the reviews of tasty more authentic-than-most japanese with tatami room seating and complimentary tasty flans (a favorite dessert of mine) decided that Uoko Upon entering I was excited to see the tradition heavily wooden interior with traditional japanese lantern style lighting. The booth we were seated at had high walls giving privacy and visual appeal. Both me and my guest were going to order sukiyaki and opted for the Sukiyaki Set instead! The set (only $4 more $18 total) also included as sides: Miso soup, a small dish of stewed onions beans carrots and chicken, a salad with a mysteriously delightful herby taste to it.All of these small items were delicious and were eaten quickly between breaks in conversation haha. Then the main meal came...along with the full sized sukiyaki came two other items selected from multiple combinations. I chose sashimi and salmon teriyaki. The sashimi was bright, colorful orange salmon and ruby red tuna. (There was a third pale fish I could not identify and it was excellent)The salmon teriyaki was good. Basic salmon teriyaki. I mixed it with my bowl of white rice, a tasty combination! Now yes the sukiyaki. It was GREAT. The sauce was sweet and savory the upon noodles were thick and chewy and the tofu was of a very pleasing consistency. The beef tasted great with sauce though I prefer the beef more rare. Alas. I enjoyed every drop of the broth mmm. The meal was VERY filling; in the best possible way. And well worth the price for the quality, variety and ammount.Lastly we were presented with the dessert tray. Which included the flan I mentioned above, an orange and blueberry custard something (?) And coffee jello. I picked flan and my guest got the orange blueberry. We split both, and each was great. One sour, the other sweet. (Youll have to try the coffee jello your self haha)Next time I think Ill try the tatami room for fun.Go, eat and have fun! And grab that flan before your friend does.
Tabi-ji Japanese Cuisine

This is the second time we’ve gone to this Japanese restaurant. Oh so good, I always have a glass of plum wine with Japanese food. My husband had the scallop dinner and I had The filet mignon. Both came with your choice of soup and we chose miso, a salad and rice. Both of us got three good size shrimp with our dinners plus vegetables. Our server was Noriko and she was excellent, especially because she had quite a few tables.

The best Japanese restaurant in Orange. Very expensive but hey, if money is no object, this is it. Omakase lunch is $80. Do it.
Honda-Ya
556 El Camino Real, Tustin, CA 92780, United States
I dont think this review will make any impact or elicit a response from the owners, but Id like to just warn potential guests that Honda-ya is not the friendly, cozy izakaya that my family had enjoyed for the last 20+ years (mostly Tustin, but also their other locations too).Tip: make sure you dont get Edwin as a waiter or ever interact with the passive aggressive managerHeres the gist: this review is about asking for any type of help from the staff here - essentially, dont expect it, especially if its about getting seated without your full party, even if the place just opened on a weeknight and is less than a quarter full and additional guests arent in sight. My bad, I know, but Honda-ya used to be flexible, welcoming, and fun...and we had a jet lagged toddler in tow (wanted to prevent a meltdown in the restaurant)...so I didnt expect the treatment we received. The manager could have just kindly said no or explained why not. There are plenty of delicious Japanese restaurants in close proximity that have better food selections and service. Like the amazing soba shop next door! Just dont with Honda-ya. Its sad what it has become.
Oki Doki Izakaya Tustin
13681 Newport Ave Ste 9, Tustin, CA 92780, United States
Our family and friends love to eat here! Chef/owner and Okie Dokie Restaurant team makes this Japanese restaurant in Tustin so special and welcoming in our community! A regular customer for many years, and always a joy to be back. Everything on the menu is so delicious and the flavors authentic. Restaurant was newly renovated and looks bright and clean! We like the comfortable ambiance and pub food menu. Highly recommend their handmade noodles! The soba and Nebayaki udon is always a personal favorite to order. The udon noodles are so chewy and cooked just right. The broth is hot and rich in flavor. Also recommend ordering a side dish like Gyoza ?, fried octopus, grilled squid, and/or one of their popular sushi/rolls. Always pairs well with the noodle dishes. We will definitely be back again soon! ?????

My favorite Japanese restaurant in Tustin! Its small and cozy like almost every restaurant in japan but has a massive amount of character! The food is great and the owners/ servers are incredibly nice and accommodating.
TANAKAYA Japanese Soba Restaurant
654 El Camino Real, Tustin, CA 92780, United States
This is the best soba restaurant in Orange County and if you don’t care about sushi and all the other typical items in a Japanese restaurant, it is the best Japanese restaurant. We used to go to Taiko in Irvine and Kitayama in Newport Beach all the time and now this has become our go-to Japanese restaurant. Every time we pass through Tustin or if we’re less than ~ 10 miles of this place, we’ll have our lunch or dinner at this restaurant. As is noted by a few reviewers, there is a wait for the food but one has to understand that the food is prepared fresh after it is ordered. It is worth the wait. The cold soba is out of this world and the tonkatsu is second to none.

Sake 2 Me Sushi
13951 Carroll Way, Tustin, CA 92780, United States
Sushi was good especially with 50% off. For some reason I thought wrong that this was all you can eat which was not. Cerritos Sake 2 me was AYCE. Service was ok, not great. It was too loud and everything they did the birthday song blast, it was like lousy loud karaoke. Not a Japanese restaurant atmosphere for sure.
