Craft Roots
17230 Monterey Hwy, Morgan Hill, CA 95037, United States
UPDATE: 11-5-2020So we went back a couple of weeks ago and had an amazing experience. The owner Justin is an awesome guy and was very helpful with explaining the types of food choices they offer. Again the wife and I arent vegetarian but the Chili Burger I had and the pizza she had were excellent. The pumpkin seed chili really tasted like chili. The pizza crust and cashew cheese were very good as well.As an unabashed carnivore, I can totally eat at Craft Roots and not feel like I am missing anything.Their bar manager Nicholas is great as well. I challenged him to come up with a Prohibition type cocktail for me and even though his alcohol selection is somewhat limited due to some alcohols not being vegan, he made me a Gimlet that did indeed give the essence of a Prohibition drink. Kudos to him. If you arent in the mood for vegetarian food, try stopping by for a drink. They have beer, cider and kombucha on tap as well as great cocktails. So now I see why Craft Roots has so many 5-star ratings. The food, the drinks and the people that work there are all outstanding. The wife and I are not vegetarians but we try to eat as healthy as possible and have been including some vegetarian options in our diet lately. Decided to give Craft Roots a shot last weekend for lunch. I called and asked a couple of questions before coming down as I was curious as to what their cheeze is made out of. I was told that it was made from Coconut and does indeed taste like cheese. So we drove down and placed our order for 2 burgers. I got the Western BBQ burger, (BBQ sauce, crispy onions, pickles and American cheeze) and asked for the BBQ on the side. The wife got the CR Burger, without cheeze. We both got salads instead of fries with vinagrette dressing. We ordered the food to go and got some drinks to have while we waited. Craft Roots features hard and regular Kombucha on tap as well as cider and many beers. They also have some pretty imaginative cocktails available. I think Ill try the Kombucha mule next time we visit. The food took about 15 minutes and when we got home unfortunately we found that our orders had been messed up. Neither of our burgers had cheeze, (I was disappointed because I wanted to see what Coconut cheese tasted like), and neither of our salads had dressing on them. Also, my burger had the BBQ sauce on it instead of on the side. Ill give them a pass as Im sure Covid has things pretty chaotic for any restaurant right now. But the burgers were indeed tasty and the employees were super friendly. The only knock Ill give Craft Roots is their pricing. $17 for a veggie burger is pretty steep in my opinion.Im sure well be back in the future. Ill probably just make sure to check my food before leaving next time.
Vietasia Restaurant
1295 E Dunne Ave #140, Morgan Hill, CA 95037, United States
This version of Vietasia is vastly different. The new Vietadia has an extensive menu, but ask as not every dish is available. All in all, the Big Bowl of soup seems to be there speciality as this is where the flavors and subtly mixed spices shine! My table mate ordered orange chicken and remarked it was very salty. The atmosphere could use a lot of help. This day in January it was chilly outside and the restaurant especially in the back where we were seated was very cold. We sat with our coats on and were still uncomfortable. A couple of people who were seated after us asked to move to the passageway tables. The thermostat was nearby and the owner came over and looked at the temperature, but didnt turn it up. When we got up to leave the front entry area was full. The walls are painted a bright plant green that was chipped off quite badly in areas. Carpet on the floor was spotted and in need of cleaning, although the rainy weather Im sure contributed to it. We will give it another one more try later when the weather warms. Some heat and a friendlier attitude would go a long way to making the restaurant inviting.
Moons Kitchen
16985 Monterey Hwy #326, Morgan Hill, CA 95037, United States
Another great independently-owned restaurant in Morgan Hill. Who needs the chains! Always warm and friendly; truly a neighborhood restaurant. I always tell myself Im going to try something differnet - and sometimes do- but I usually get the Spicy Pork Mixed Vegetables. Just the right amount of spicy.Korean, Japanese, and American food.
CLASSY NAILS
15874 Monterey Hwy, Morgan Hill, CA 95037, United States
I wish I could give this place 6 stars! This is our new favorite place. Ive been taking Dad to get pedicures for a couple of years now, and have tried a bunch of shops. Classy Nails is new (about 3 months old, or under new ownership), in a tiny strip mall between a market and a Korean restaurant he likes. We didnt have a reservation so we got there right at 9:30 when they opened and they welcomed us right in.Usually, when we go for pedicures, we always wish for better leg massages so we didnt have high hopes. In fact, Dad has been going to get reflexology at a place nearby. Hes 88 and has some edema, and the reflexology helps. But here, Wish Come True! I had Emmie (Amy?) and Dad had Van and they were both extremely strong and skilled at massage and even at acupressure points. They were also very attentive to us, unlike many other salons where we sometimes feel were on an assembly line. They occasionally talked with each other, but paid much more attention to us which was super nice. It was so surprising, and weve been feeling awesome all day.Oh, and the pedicures were great. We both got Mangolicious with the scrub and the hot towels before the massage. And dad got a manicure this time, too. The woman next to me was getting a pedicure and also something complicated done to her fingernails, and we were chatting, and she was very happy, too. Yay!
Pho Saigon Corner
16760 Monterey Hwy, Morgan Hill, CA 95037, United States
Dig in, its a doozy.I have been going to this phở restaurant for three plus years and loved it. I strictly ordered the beef rare stake phở, with a rate addition of tripe. It was good, fresh flavors and great, friendly service with a normal wait time. This was a go-to place for pick-up during COVID and was enjoyed by friends and family in person pre-COVID shut down and takeout during COVID. Recently (Jan 2023), the restaurant changed owners. Having not been in a while, and finally convincing my partner to go after long complaining I havent had phở in too long, we ventured in around 6:30 on a week night, thinking the new ownership wouldnt affect the quality of the food or experience. Wow were we wrong. Not only was the restaurant as quiet as a wild west town when the outlaws roll in (sans the excitement of a wild west dispute), it took a while for us to be acknowledged, seated and for our order to be taken. After we ordered, my partners fried rice arrived, I waited and waited and waited for my phở. My hot tea in a to-go coffee cup (whaaa? weird) arrived, but my phở was clearly forgotten. My partner ate their fried rice while we waited and FINALLY the phở arrived. To my extreme disappointment, the phở was FLAVORLESS and extremely LACKING in flank steak. The steak that was in the soup had clearly been sitting for a long while as it was tough and dry, not at all the freshly cooked by broth raw steak that I usually received from this restaurant. The broth was painfully dull, underwhelming, and completely lacking in spice or beef flavor. The limes and basil were even less than exciting, which were the most delightful limes and Thai basil Ive experienced in the area aside from the local Farmers Market. Along with the main dishes, we also ordered spring rolls with shrimps and chicken. The spring rolls came out after the main dishes (reminder, one of which was VERY late) and the chicken was drier than driftwood on an arid beach. On top it all, my partners fried rice was riddled with eggshells. Not the crunch one is looking for in food.In addition to the let down of the wait time for the food and the food itself, a gentleman meandered around the small restaurant space duct-taping furniture and going in and out a door in the middle of the eating area the entire time we ate. It was uncomfortable and distracting, especially for me, as my back was to the narrow eating area and the wandering man. After we finished our abnormally long, drawn out meal, we went to pay at the counter and no one came to take our payment. The wandering man and another person were eating at a boot near the register and didnt act for around 5 minutes, but the man finally yelled to the back and someone came out. Needless to say, no tip was left.My partner and I pass this restaurant three to five times a week around 5-6pm and notice its closed or there are low to no patrons. Sadly, its no surprise. I am highly disappointed this establishment went from yummy to bummy so quickly.
Pho Morgan Hill
16965 Monterey Hwy #102B, Morgan Hill, CA 95037, United States
Im a SJ resident, my attitude towards Vietnamese food is very hostile. I have the tendency to judge everything I eat when Im pleased with tasty and cheap meals to anything thats unpleasant in my tummy. Sadly, I commute to Morgan Hill for work. Doesnt offer much around this residing city when it comes down to variety of food. However, I found out theres a restaurant that offers Vietnamese food! My heart fluttered when I wanted to give this place a try after a lot of my fellow Vietnamese coworkers tell me that this location is the ONLY place that serves great tasting Vietnamese food around the area. How unfortunate that many people arent familiar with the different tastes of Asian food around there.Typically, Pho (soup), Bun (Vermicelli dishes), etc. are always served in a Vietnamese restaurant. However, most places around SJ have restaurants serving food in separation by Bánh cun (rice noodle roll filled with seasoned ground pork, minced wood ear mushroom, and minced shallots), Bánh mì (different kinds of bread more specifically, sandwiches including meat, soy fillings of pork belly, sausage, grilled pork with pork liver pâté, cucumber, etc.), or Bò 7 món (literally seven courses of beef, a selection of beef Vietnamese dishes), etc. This restaurant however has a little bit of everything!Ive enjoyed their Pho (mainly their combination soup that has brisket, tendons, flank, meatballs, etc.), Bo Luc Lac (shaking beef which is cubed beef with onions and bell peppers) served with steamed white rice and small bowl of soup (clear broth), Banh Mi (grilled chicken sandwich), Bun Bo Hue (spicy soup served with beef, fatty beef, pork blood, etc.), and something new off their menu, Mi Quang (rice noodles served with seasoned pork chop or chicken, quail eggs, shrimp, peanuts, ch (Vietnamese steamed pork sausage), chili pepper, fresh vegetables and pieces of crispy bánh tráng (crispy version of rice paper). All that Ive mentioned are some things that I love to order each time Ive eaten here!Im an avid customer, in which, the owners are always sweet and courteous all the time. Lunch time can be very busy, but dont quickly judge by their service. They talk to their customers especially those who are regulars, like myself, and remember your usual order! I love that about a restaurant, when the owners remember you!! Best part, they dont have MSG in their food, they accept debit and credit cards (most of SJVietnamese restaurants are CASH ONLY), and FREE Wi-Fi unlike any other SJ restaurants that NEVER give their customers FREE Wi-Fi!Convenient that theyre nearby my workplace. Off the beaten road of Monterey Road heading towards Socal, its tucked away in a small plaza. If you happen to have GPS, its not hard to find. Theres room outside in their patio area if you want to enjoy a nice lunch during a sunny day!Overall, I have no complaints! Ill keep coming back as long as they continue with their patronage and delicious food!
