Korean restaurants worth visiting in San Carlos
Yakini Q SJ
1783 W San Carlos St, San Jose, CA 95128, United States
California Hip Hop Artist SpenDoe speaks about his experience at Yakini Q! I absolutely love Yakini Q! I am a big fan of Korean BBQ, and I really enjoy the restaurants vibe. The K-POP music bumping, the staff moving by quickly, and attentive to their tables, and the amazing food. I really enjoyed how they were open late night, which is a plus for me. Im a night owl. I was recording music late night downtown San Jose, and wanted Asian cuisine. We drove around a bit, looking for a place to sit and eat. Suddenly, I thought to reach out to my friend MiYeon in San Francisco. She directed me to one of her favorite spots in the area. I greatly appreciate her recommendation.

SC Noodle House

New fusion restaurant at San Carlos. It serves Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean dishes. It has full bar service. We didnt make a reservation and get seated right away. It was not busy when we arrived but after thatvit was packed. The interior is very nicely decorated. We ordered rare beef pho and salt and pepper wing. The dishes were ready pretty quickly. The service is goodThe chicken wing is yummy but a bit salty. The soup of the pho is not hot enough and also too sweet for me. I can taste a strong onion flavor, and sweetness is from the onion. I prefer less sweet. The meat is tender. Overall, the food is good, but if you are looking for authentic pho soup, this might not be the one. Next visit, we will try other dishes. Price is a bit high but reasonable. The restaurant also adds 3.25% for good living wages on the bill. If you want to try various asian noodles and cusines under one roof, you should give it a try.
JB Mobile Detailing - Paint Protection Film - P...
181 Industrial Rd #A, San Carlos, CA 94070, United States
5-stars for the results (Premier detail for $389). Rafael and his coworker arrived early, were friendly, found a solution at my crowded business parking lot to service my vehicle and did an amazing job.1-star for the mobile service surcharge of $15. The name of the business is JB “Mobile” Detailing. Adding a surcharge to utilize a service used in the name of a business is like a Korean Hot Pot restaurant charging $15 to bring the meal over hot. This is price gouging (receipt attached).1-star for the mobile detailing van that arrived with no business identification, markings or signage and is in need of some detailing itself. Surcharging customers $15 for the mobile service, JB should invest in professional looking vans and provide their workers with uniforms that identify them as employees.
Reach and Teach Books, Toys, and Gifts
1179 San Carlos Ave, San Carlos, CA 94070, United States
Really cute store on a random street in San Mateo with a lot of little shops and restaurants. This place reminds me of a fantastic fair-trade shop called Ten Thousand Villages from the Pacific Northwest. The owner/host of the store is very nice and friendly, and offers you water, tea, and even a little piece of dark chocolate (tastefully/hygienically covered with a little clear plastic cup) when you enter the store. I could spend hours in this store looking through the interesting/eclectic book selection; toys; body butters/lotions; and other gifts. There are so many unique toys and gifts with their inspiration or actual origin from all over the world. The back half of the store is designed a childrens play area with a table for arts and crafts, and surrounded by bookcases full of childrens books. My favorite sections, though, are the toy and music sections where there are a lot of fantastic musical toys, puzzles, and other items that could easily keep both you and/or a child entertained for hours. They have puzzle toys and other small games similar to the Marbles: The Brain Store, but also other unique gifts like building blocks with Korean, Chinese, Japanese, ASL; toy trucks/cars on a string; ankle beads that can be both decorative and a percussive instrument; and my favorite, a fantastic xylophone built entirely of wooden pieces. Another lovely thing: they have beautiful greeting cards that are made locally and/or handmade, some of which are very unique and quite beautiful. You can probably tell: I LOVE THIS STORE.
Devils Canyon Brewing Company
935 Washington St, San Carlos, CA 94070, United States
This review is absolutely overdue. I would give them 1000 stars if it were an option. I cannot say enough about our wonderful experience with Devils Canyon. My fiance and I held our engagement party at Devils Canyon during the end of August 2019. We knew that Devils Canyon would be an amazing place to host this based on many positive experiences with Food Truck Friday and shows played by my fiance and our friends. However, the team well exceeded our expectations throughout the entirety of our interactions.Michelle, the in house Director of Events, was so approachable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. Throughout the experience, we felt confident in her ability to create a one of a kind event. Michelle provided many options and walked through each detail with us, offering drink tickets or cash bar. She is also a creative powerhouse! She and her event coordinators offered amazing feedback throughout the planning process. The entire staff was phenomenal and helpful. I tend to overwhelm myself and stress out, but they made the entire process easy. The team was helpful and accommodating by helping us figure out the best layout and setting up for us. On the day of the event, there were multiple people available to assist us with getting things organized. We were able to rent the side patio for our event during a Friday evening. For a group of about 65 people throughout the night, it was the perfect size. We decided to do it on a Friday evening as there were food trucks available, live music, and a lively ambiance. We ultimately decided to have an outside catering through a friend of ours and set up a taco bar in our area, though it didnt stop us from consuming some of the delicious food from the trucks. Despite the venue being open to public, it felt very cozy and private in our nook. Not only were the staff exceptionally helpful, many came to stopped by to say hello. By the time event day, it felt that everyone we had organized with shared in our excitement and it showed. I wish we could relive our engagement party every day, because it was truly an amazing and memorable experience. I doubt we would have had nearly as perfect of an event if we had gone ANYWHERE else. Devils Canyon should absolutely be your first choice for hosting an event anywhere. Were even considering having our reception here in a few years.
Refuge
27300 Rancho San Carlos Rd, Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA 93923, United States
Quick SummaryLoved the concept of an outdoor co-ed spa for couples retreats. Great ambiance, clean rooms, and had a great massage. But the customer service and communication were lacking which led to a damper on what wouldve been a good day at refugeSituation- 1 starIm just going to get this out of the way first. We booked massages online several weeks ahead of time at 5pm. Luckily, my therapist came in right on time and I was having a grand time. However, little did I know, my girlfriends massage (which was booked at 5pm) was about to be delayed and nothing was communicated to her until she waited for over 30 minutes. (It turns out there was a scheduling mishap with someone elses massage earlier in the day, so the Refuge staff double booked the assigned massage therapist. That massage therapist went to break and my girlfriend wasnt notified by the situation until 530). When the staff communicated this to my girlfriend, they kept stating oh, it wont take that much longer, but basically my girlfriend didnt get her massage until 545. This was especially disappointing because we had a dinner reservation that we missed due to this delay. I understand that mistakes happen, but having an almost hour delay completely ruined the rest of our night.Pools- 5 starsThey have 3 different pool types (cold, cool, warm) where you can dip in. Each pool is pretty scenic (unable to take photos because they prohibit electronics past a certain point) and the whole spa gives a rustic vibe. Theres plenty of pools to choose from without feeling crowded. Nice to be outdoors as wellSauna/steam room- 5 starsThey have a salt sauna and a eucalyptus steam room. I liked the salt sauna because of how large it was. Felt very clean throughoutFacilities- 5 starsDidnt get a chance to visit the gym but plenty of cardio machines there. Theres also 2 resting rooms with lounge chairs, and a bunch of outdoor lounge chairs as well.Locker rooms- 4 starsLockers rooms felt clean, but it did feel cramped as not that many seating areas. They couldve done a better job of spreading out the guests to different areas of the locker room.Massage- 5 starsIm glad my massage therapist, James, convinced me to go with deep tissue massage instead of Swedish. Did a great job of targeting my knots and applying the right amount of pressure.Bottom LineFacilities were great and clean. Wouldve had a fantastic time, but the massage service delay left an ugly mark on what wouldve been a great, stress-free dayADDENDUM:Returned to Refuge to give it another chance, and everything went smoothly. The staff were very helpful throughout. All the areas were nice and clean. It was a perfect way to escape and I enjoyed the hours of steaming/saunaing along with the cold baths, capped off with a massage. Would highly recommend Refuge to any Carmel itinerariesWould highly recommend booking a massage reservation as they fill up quickly. Would also come here at least 2-3 hours in advance to really enjoy all the amenities (they have a gym as well as the sauna/steam rooms and cold pools so this can be a whole-day experience if you want). Best spa in California!
Boba Guys
872 Laurel St, San Carlos, CA 94070, United States
The Strawberry Tea Fresca is a perfect summer boba drink; its so refreshing. Its a blend of strawberry puree and green jasmine tea. Normally I dont like jasmine tea, but the jasmine tea content in the drink is light enough that I dont get a strong punch of jasmine flavor, so its perfect for me. You cant customize the sweetness level of it though, or any of the other Specialty drinks. I also tried the Ube Custard Cake, which had a nice light ube flavor and surprisingly no custard filling. Its quite a dense cake, and has pockets of stickiness inside, so it was a bit like a cross between a Filipino puto (rice cake) and a Western cake. Expect a long line at this place, especially during a warm afternoon. Parking can be challenging sometimes since this is right in the heart of downtown San Carlos.
The Cask Wine Bar
782 Laurel St, San Carlos, CA 94070, United States
We really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, it wasnt just meh...it was flat out bad. The service was clumsy, with waiters putting our menus on top of our plates and hovering without actually asking how things were going. We both did the wine flight. The presentation was...odd. The full size wine glasses on a holder that takes up half the table. My partner did the whites and 2/3 were terrible to the point of being undrinkable. I did the pinot noir and couldnt even tell if I like them, as they were served not just room temperature but warm. We wound up sending both flights back. I ordered the lamb burger medium rare and received it medium well with sweet potato fries that-given their absolute nothing taste-appear to have gone form frozen to fryer. My partner got a mushroom flatbread, which she aptly described as being equivalent to what one would get at Subway. The only reason this isnt a one star review is they did take the flight off our bill without question...though the manager stood nearby watching and never came over to discuss. We will not be returning.
