Kung Fu Noodle
1233 E Vista Way, Vista, CA 92084, United States
Definitely one of those places that looks less classy, but if you know, you know. The food makes up for anything people say about unfriendly staff. Just be aware, its run similar to other Asian restaurants where you fill out a paper menu, then pass it back to a server. You wont be bothered by servers throughout your meal -- you have to approach the desk at the end to pay. If youre used to smaller establishments, this is normal, and is a good departure from modern/fancy places where youre bothered every three minutes by staff. The bao buns are to die for -- fluffy and soft, absolutely massive and very filling (much better than other places that offer super small bao). Definitely will be ordering some for take-away another. I got the vegetable and red bean kinds.Additionally, be warned that some options on the menu have meat but dont list it. I ordered the dandan noodle and didnt realize it would have meat (ground pork) -- Im vegetarian so I just avoided that part and gave it to my friend. Otherwise, the noodles themselves are bomb. Again, Im vegetarian, so I cant speak for the meat options. Still, liked what I had and will definitely be coming back to try other veg options I saw; Ill just be sure to ask if theyre definitely meat-free (lol).

Chins Szechwan - Vista
600 E Vista Way, Vista, CA 92084, United States
Not too good, as it turned out. What are the odds of finding a good Chinese restaurant these days in southern California? 1-20? 1-15? Somewhere around those numbers. Yes, there are multiple Chinese eateries to be found, that is for sure, but to be able to reach the creme of the creme?Chins Szechwan Restaurant was our latest hit and miss. Amid a fancy decor, and eagerly waiting waitresses, the place looses all credibility once the food starts arriving at the table. Yes, they do have an extensive menu, plenty of expensive dishes to select from, so for us dining in this establishment for the first time our impression in the culinary field was lukewarm at best. These were the letdowns in order of arrival: Assorted Won Ton Soup, $8.75 (serves 3-4). The color of the broth was a deep brown, unusual for this type of soup. When we read assorted won tons, we understood obviously incorrectly, that they would have more than one kind (how tricky the english language can be for the improperly trained). No, it was only one kind, and it had almost no meat, and the noodle or pasta part of the wonton, tasted almost undercooked, terrible won ton, which generally the wonton outer layer is supposed to be softer. Not this version. Broth, intriguing as it sounds being of deep brown color, was less appreciated once tried, average at best with specks of filmy fat on top? Shrimp content, 2 per person and we were 3, carrots, broccoli, snow peas, all customary inclusions in a wor won ton soup. 2.5 Stars. Then, instead of having to go a la carte, we chose an $18.95 per person, which gave several choices and also came with egg roll and fried shrimp, or fried beef dumpling and aluminum wrapped chicken (used to be paper wrapped chicken so very long ago). This appetizers were way below par, sad little affair. 2 Stars at the most.We each was entitled to one dish under this pre arranged dinner, that also came with Egg Drop Soup (small bowl, lukewarm in temperature, average...3 Stars. Can anyone tell we favor lots and lots of soup?). Selections of the ones available that we selected:Hunan Fish Fillet, a la carte priced $14.95. Bland, absolutely zero flavor, plenty of whatever fish they use, serve in a lighted cauldron that kept heating it more. Plenty of green bell peppers, mushroom, thickly cut onions, all soaked with these brown sauce very much familiar as one of their cheapest, similar perhaps to black bean sauce in color and texture. 2 Stars.Imperial Shrimp, $14.95. Medium size shrimp with very little flavor in the traditional see through thick concoction, that I could almost bet contains cornstarch, with peas and snow peas, and very al dente broccoli pieces. A little better this time, 3 Stars.Plum Tree Beef, $9.55. I could try to describe this dish, but I prefer to urgently skip it all together, for it is simply put: a sweet letdown. Inferior beef properly tenderized (oh yes, the Chinese will tenderize any hard meat, that does not mean it is quality beef because is soft, no Siree!), this one was a mound of one of worst beef, this side of the Potomac.Tea requested came lukewarm, almost cold. White rice came tasting old, like it had been under a heat lamp a little past its prime. Rice: 1.5 Stars, Tea: 1.5 Stars. Water, 2 Stars.Service in the hands of capable Diana, from Northern China, was a little better than average. 4 Stars. The price with gratuity included: $81+.We have gone to too many Chinese eateries, and most as of late, are a terrible disappointment. One is better off eating at home, instead of being the recipients of expensive and mediocre fare. The place at 7PM was almost deserted. Should have known better, but we did not, so we paid the price and left regretting having went in the first place. 3 Stars.

Pizza & More
1461 N Santa Fe Ave #103, Vista, CA 92084, United States
If youve ever walked past this place, like we did, and thought to yourself, oh, just another pizza parlor.I hate to tell you this but youre SO wrong! My people and I walked by the doors thinking what you thought until, one day, we decided to give it a shot. We were short on time and needed something fast so we got a couple slices and some drinks. We were instantly hooked. The pizza was fantastic but we also found out they have SO MUCH MORE THAN PIZZA! (hence, the name, Pizza & More, we discovered.)We started coming by during my wifes lunch because her work is close by. Lola made us feel right at home from the very beginning. She was always friendly and was extra with the service but, more than that, she talked to us like we were long time friends. We started sampling the other items on their menu. It was the cioppino that hooked us. I asked for it with veggies instead of noodles and they were very accommodating. Im not Italian at all, as far as I know, and this was how I imagined it would taste in your grammas coastal Italian villa. I ate the entire thing! My wife and her other hubby had another one between them. We were flabbergasted with how delicious it was. So much so we went back the next day to have it again. And the day after that. And the day after that. This continued for about a week, then we went on vacation but as soon as we got home we went and got the cioppino again! (My mouth is watering as I write this).Their chefs, Jair and Manolo, are freakin amazing! They all remember our specific dietary restrictions and are very accommodating with our changes so we can eat their food. After working our way through their menu and the specials (which change frequently and keep us coming back for more) we began to make more and more outlandish requests and THEY NEVER TOLD US NO!We even went to celebrate my wifes passing her nursing test and we asked ahead if we could do something really special. Enter 2 massive tomahawk steaks and fresh veggies! OMG they were beautiful. We found it hard to go back to our favorite steakhouse when one of my kids requested it for their birthday. We go to Pizza & More quite frequently these days (sometimes 2+ times in one day) because the people are absolutely phenomenal, the food blows our mind every single time, and the prices are extremely reasonable. Sometimes we even ask the chef to surprise us and weve gotten something new and delectable each time. Every dish has been fit for royalty.Do yourself a favor and stop walking past and go inside. You wont be disappointed. And if youre sitting there and you see something not on the menu being taken to a table of 3 adults (and sometimes a couple kids) who are experiencing a Pavlovian response in anticipation... thats probably us being extra.See the pictures for proof.

JT Asian Market - Vista
1215 S Santa Fe Ave, Vista, CA 92083, United States
Finally, a sweet little Asian market in Vista! They provide a variety of Pan Asian goods, any thing from fresh ginger, Thai basil and bok choy to a variety of kimchies to an assortment of sauces and noodles.I picked up some fresh Asian noodles here and the kind owners took the time to help walk me through how to cook them, saute or put in a soup. You just cant get that kind of service from one of the larger markets! The owner also mentioned if there is a product you are looking for that you cannot find, they will try to get it in. Come out and support this family owned business so we can keep a good Asian market prospering in our community!Highly recommend JT Market!

Show de Carnes Express

One waitress wore her glove outside touching everything and then walked inside with the same glove and began stacking drinking cups for customers; then went in kitchen without changing said glove or washing the uncovered hand. Just because you wear a glove does not mean you are sanitized . That concerned me!! What do we NOT SEE.....also, was disappointed it is an authentic Brazilian restaurant and their serving Minute Rice with their meals instead of their homeland rice which shows on the menu. Many restaurants like this are cutting corners this way, assuming Americans dont know the difference - but we still spent over $100 for our meal for 2, so I would expect quality all around. AND THEY CHARGED US FOR TAKING OUR LEFTOVERS!!!! WHO DOES THAT?

Upper Crust Pizza
1330 E Vista Way, Vista, CA 92084, United States
Sometimes there's Nothing's better than a good ole' fashioned sloppy slice of pepperoni pizza!I mean it!Is it greasy? Yes.Are the pepperonis oily? Yes.Is it oozing with gooey cheese? Hell Yeah. This, my friends, is what you're looking for…To ease the pains of the work week;To make the best of your dietary cheat;May I recommend you head on down to this local favorite establishment… Upper Crust Pizza.Located right off the E Vista Way main road, this small-owned pizzeria has plenty of what you're looking for when planning family-dinners, gatherings, or parties.Because of its spacious, two-level floor plan, you can easily hold huge group gatherings. There are multiple televisions for everyone's viewing pleasure and there's even a mini-arcade game-room in the front.Their prices are VERY reasonable and their Lunch Combos are super! You can often get a slice of pizza, salad and a drink for under $6.The few cons I could find are:• gluten-free options only available for 10” pies• pizza-by-the-slice only for pepperoni• bathroom is small (single person optimized)Overall, I really enjoy coming here for some lasagna, spaghetti or pizza on my lunch and I also recommend Upper Crust Pizza because they support Youth with Disabilities Work Programs.

Pho House
1876 Hacienda Dr, Vista, CA 92081, United States
While been sometime since weve been in CA, we always try to eat certain foods when we are here. A nice drive up the coast landed us in North County. Remembering some good Vietnamese restaurants in the area we did a quick search on maps. We werent 100% sure of the restaurant we used to go to so we chose Pho House. They had a nice rating of 4.7 Stars.Although the building - including the interior-is relatively nondescript, thats where average ends.We were greeted by an extraordinarily charming young woman. To describe her as friendly might be an understatement. She was courteous, charming, and kind from the moment we walked in. As with many restaurants this young lady who seemed to be serving as Hostess and server both, delivered water to our table expediently and asked what we else would like to drink. We were ready to order at that point and did so.We ordered the six spring rolls, and a bowl of house special Bun - rice vermacelli- with meats and Vietnamese egg rolls on the top. There was plenty of meat, both pork and chicken, the portion was generous. Im here to tell you that this was perhaps the best bowl of Bun I may ever have had. Flavors were good, the noodles were very slightly warm, not room temp or cold.IF, everything here is as well prepared and of high quality as the Egg rolls and Bun, then Run, dont walk, and dine here.

Pho Truc Xanh
770 Sycamore Ave, Vista, CA 92083, United States
I used to go here all the time for my lunch break when I just graduated college and found a job around the area in 2020. The service and food was just amazing and unforgettable. The ladies that work there are some of the most kindest and warm-hearted people that I've ever met. It feels like home there even though I lived 100 miles away from my actual home. They're definitely popular and many locals definitely eat here regularly because the food and service is top notch. The food is very delicious. I really like their noodle soup dishes like pho, and bun bo hue; I tried level 10 spiciness for the bun bo hue, and it was very difficult to eat because of how spicy it was! It was probably most spiciest soup that I've ever had. If you like spicy soups, definitely give it a try, but beware of how spicy it is! Their rice dishes are also very good. If you prefer to eat healthy, there are plenty of healthy options here that taste amazing. The portion sizes for the food here are generous, and the serving is just right. They also give Viet candy afterwards which is a really nice touch of dessert. I really miss this place, and I plan on visiting again some day. It's been 2 years now. I hope everything is going well.

Buta Japanese Ramen
5201 Linda Vista Rd ste.103, San Diego, CA 92110, United States
How did I just discovered Buta Japanese Ramen? Wow. This place was such a solid find tonight. Out of all the ramen restaurants in San Diego, Buta definitely deserves a spot as one of the citys top ramen shops. This place definitely has a neighborhood and relaxed vibe. Spacious and modern. You could feel that this place gets a ton of repeat patrons and/or locals. I got the Crazy Garlic Ramen and I was a big fan. It had a ton of flavor, was absolutely delicious and arrived piping hot. The trifecta. The best part of my bowl was definitely the chashu, which is probably the best in all of San Diego, and yes, thats a huge statement. It was well seasoned and smoked to perfection. There was a tad bit more fat than Id like, but the flavor more than made up for it. The soft boiled egg, noodles and other toppings were okay - nothing to write home about, but they werent bad.My partner got the Tahini Old School, which he preferred more than my bowl. I begged to differ, lol, and preferred mines more.Overall, I would definitely add Buta Japanese Ramen to your rotation, if youre in the nearby area and are looking to try out a new place. The staff was also more than helpful at all times - super attentive and thorough - constantly checking on us and keeping our drinks filled. They even allowed me to customize the firmness of my noodles, which was greatly appreciated. We were in and out in a very reasonable time. Great job, Buta! Yall are crushing it.
