Chili Mee Noodle Bar
1261 E Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91801, United States
Bright, airy, welcoming, casual eatery that offers a simple menu of noodles and a few sides. Were Indonesian and love noodles, so we were pretty excited to try this new establishment, which has only been open for two months! You order at the register and grab a table. My mom and I both got the chili mee -- I got mine exactly as advertised (spicy!) and my mom opted to go with medium spicy. We also shared a bowl of their beef meatball soup. Food came out quickly and for $5.50-7.50 a bowl, the portion was generous. Presentation was great, and upon our first bite, we couldnt help but chime at the same time, Mmmm. Enak sekali! (Very good in Indonesian). The noodles were perfectly cooked and moist. It had a nice bite to it, so no soggy noods here. And the flavor was on point. Even the beef ball soup was tasty -- simple, and it reminded me of bakso, which is beef ball noodle soup, a very traditional Indonesian staple, which is delicious, esp on a cold, rainy day. The meatball was super tender. We loved everything we ate and will be back!My only critiques are the chili mee was definitely SPICY. If youre a spicy food lover, you may enjoy this as-is. I enjoy spicy foods, but I did find perhaps it was a tad too spicy for me -- my nose was def running. It would be nice to see the possibility of adding protein to the noodle bowls, i.e. tofu or sliced chicken or even have the beef meatball as an option. Or maybe offering a hard boiled egg or soft egg would be delicious. Some veggies in the noods would be great too. Makes for a more complete meal. The other drawback was the music being played was a little too loud -- music should be background noise, not the star of the show at a dining establishment. This way customers can sit comfortably and hear one another talk.Service was friendly and efficient! Go support local!

Min Min Pie House
405 W Main St, Alhambra, CA 91801, United States
Drove by this place a lot while we went shopping at Good Fortune Market across street. My husband is a big fan of pan fried buns so we decided to check it out. Before came here, I looked at their menu and it had extensive and authentic flavors for dumplings and pies. That's how I knew they were legit!!We came on a rainy Saturday around 11:30am there were only two other tables. I feel on a nice day it would be busier. For food we got:- pork scallion pie (5/5). Wowwwww a must try!! It was so juicy and flavorful. The outside is perfectly crispy. This is our favorite and we definitely will try other flavors next time.- pan fried chicken mushroom dumplings (5/5). I love the dumpling skin as you can taste the slightly chew and that's how you know it's handmade!- cucumber salad (5/5). Very refreshing and balance out the richness of all the fried dumplings.- pan fried bun (4/5). This is probably my least favorite although it's still pretty good. It doesn't have much juice as I thought it would like the pie. So I'll stick with the pies next time.No fuss service. You order via QR code and food comes out around 10-15 minutes. They have a sign to explain the 15 min wait due to all handmade to order which is well worth it!! This has become our new go-to for weekend brunch.

Borneo Eatery
19 S Garfield Ave, Alhambra, CA 91801, United States
Located in Alhambra, California is the unique Borneo Kalimantan Cuisine Restaurant. It is near E Main Street and N Garfield Ave with free covered parking only a block away. The restaurant is humble but quaintly furnished with brightly colored door motifs and interesting knick-knacks depicting the Indonesian lifestyle. The restaurant is small but very clean and the staff make you feel immediately welcomed. As we reviewed the menu, we discovered that many of the food items look very familiar to other Asian dishes; however, after trying them, it was enjoyable to discover that their flavor profile are very different from those other dishes. We started off with the “Es Cendol” dessert drink and “The Tarik” iced milk tea with grass jelly. Both drinks were sweet and refreshing. Next, we tried the Roti Prata, which is advertised as a pan-grilled pancake with a Borneo inspired dipping sauce. The dipping sauce is similar to yellow curry but with a nice kick to it. The Roti Prata is light and flaky. We also ordered the Nasi Rendang. This is a savory beef dish where the beef has been braised in coconut milk, herbs and spices until it turns a rich dark brown loaded with flavor. This dish is served with tofu, boiled egg, coconut rice, and other tasty side items. Additionally, we tried the Kwe Tiau Goreng Borneo, a very popular fried flat noodle dish. All of the food that we tried was a unique and satisfying experience. This is an excellent place to try a cuisine that is refreshingly different from many other offerings in this area.

Yangs Kitchen
112 W Main St, Alhambra, CA 91801, United States
Ive heard great stories about Yangs Kitchen over the past several months but never had an opportunity to try it out until today. Prior to heading out, I wanted to check out their menu and luckily enough, they have the Yelp Waitlist option. I put my name down on their waiting list around 10:30am at home, got to the restaurant at 11:00am and got seated 15 minutes later. Honestly Im glad they had this option or else the wait wouldve been longer than I wanted. Here are the things we tried:Steak and Eggs : comes with hash brown, greens, green sauce, and ranch. I opted for the Grass-fed steak and scrambled eggs for my plate. The steak was nice and juicy, the green sauce on the steak gave it the extra punch it needed for a nice blend in flavor. The scrambled egg itself was wet and I love it when scrambled eggs dont come out all dried out.Breakfast Plate: opted for Peads & Barnetts Bacon Slide and scrambled eggs. The bacon slice was huge with a tad too much of fat on it. However, it was still delicious and extraordinary. What was said about the scrambled eggs earlier applies to this plate as well.Salmon Hash: this appetizer was recommended by the server so we gave it a shot. This dish is made with salmon belly & roe, Meyer lemon Creme Fraiche, and herbs, served on top of a perfected hash brown. Salmon belly gives this dish the extra flavor it needed since salmon belly is the fattiest part. The lemon creme was infused inside the hash brown so when you took a bite, it gave it a nice zesty taste. The only reason I didnt give this place 5 stars was because everything tasted too salty for us. Not sure why the greens on our plates were salty too but didnt want to ask to have the meals remade so we tried to mask it with black pepper; no luck. Despite the dishes being too salty for us, we still enjoyed it and would definitely come back in the future to try out other dishes, but more for their hash brown. You have no idea how long Ive been yearning and searching for a breakfast spot to have crispy hash browns; literally means the world to me. The best place I had hash browns were in SF but that restaurant changed their menu. At long last, Yangs Kitchen has perfected the crispy hash brown because it was my ultimately my favorite thing. If this is your first time trying Yangs Kitchen, youll be in a for a shock since it is quite pricey. However, the premium price everyone is paying is for locally sourced, sustainable and organic ingredients. Even on one of their boards by their register, they have zero footprint. If the price doesnt turn you away, I strongly recommend coming here for breakfast/brunch with a group since youre able to try most of the things on the menu together.

Savoy Kitchen
138 E Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91801, United States
Rating Savoys alone for the Hainan Chicken rice, one of my favorite dishes and ways to eat chicken and rice, and Ill admit Ive only tried it once last year. I have been spending some time trying to find great versions of it outside Asia, ultimately with no success. Most versions lack any proper resemblance to the iconic South East Asian dish that it truly is, simply served as boiled chicken and white rice with some soy sauce and ginger or garlic mixed in on the side.So I finally decided to get to Savoys after hearing so much. Usually I dont rate food too strictly, but since Ive grown up with this dish in China, I cant grade it on a curve. In all honesty, I feel that Savoys version is at best a solid 7/10, since its not so bastardized. The chicken prepared isnt that flavorful or juicy, coming off slightly overdone, and not presented well, as you can see the sprawled, pale chicken skin in the picture. You do have the traditional three sauce spread of ginger oil, hot chili sauce, and a slightly sweet dark soy that is a tad too thin in viscosity. Perhaps most importantly, the flavored chicken fat rice isnt fragrant and aromatic enough, coming off as white rice with a very mild chicken broth taste. Is it tasty? Its pretty decent, but I definitely wouldnt say its amazing, especially if you have to take long trek depending how far you live. But I will say if you are a big HCR fan like myself, go at least once to try and compare. Perhaps it will always have its place in SGV lore. However, since then I have had the chance to try Cluck2go, which does a solid job for an even cheaper price AND they take card, no wait or lines too. Surprisingly, Mee and Greet in Palms has a nice version, which is a slightly more modern take albeit a bit pricier but it is located on the Westside. Id much rather go the distance for Cluck2go and am glad Mee+Greet is close by for me. Also I have yet to try Sidechick in Alhambra.I think the key thing for such a dish is taking the time to do the little things required and using quality ingredients to extract as much of the pure flavors as possible and letting them shine. Which Savoy does an alright job of, not excellent though. However, to their credit, Hainanese Chicken Rice is a simple looking chicken and rice dish that can actually be notoriously challenging.

K. C. Y. RESTAURANT
501 W Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91803, United States
All Ive had is the fish ball noodle soup here but it never disappoints! The soup always comes out hot and tastes amazing. I know the building itself might not look the newest, but the food definitely makes up for it. Its busiest on the weekends, but theres never a wait. Overall, I would encourage people to give this place a chance if they always drive past it!

Dolans Uyghur Cuisine
742 W Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91803, United States
Having lived and traveled extensively throughout Asia and Central Asia, I have tasted all and sundry dishes ranging from Persian and Turkish, to Middle Eastern, South Asian, and East Asian cuisines. Uyghur food, as a result of an ancient civilization that has absorbed and integrated a great number of styles and traditions over several millennia, is a perfect mélange of the foods you will find on your Silk Road journey from Istanbul to Sichuan: well spiced, uniquely seasoned and skewered, with meat, rice, and noodles as staple complements. If you like Indian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Persian, Turkish, or Russian/Georgian flavors, then you will undoubtedly find this place a real winner on all counts.Dolans perfectly captures the artisanal, handmade noodle tradition, combining it with hearty, halal options, from chicken to lamb. There are also plenty of salad and soup choices for those wanting to preserve a KETO-friendly, low-carb, and/or vegetarian/vegan diet. I could come here almost every day and not get bored with the options. My favorite dishes are the boiled lamb leg (a super healthy protein-rich option!), garlic cucumber, and fried eggs & tomato. Overall, a guiltless, carb-free meal! They dont try to Americanize the food, which I greatly admire. On the contrary, they painstakingly replicate the tradition of Uyghur cuisine, as if we were being served in the Xinjiang provincial capital of Ürümqi. Some large television screens on the walls showcase the breathtaking scenery of Western China: snowy mountaintops, wispy deserts, and jagged rock formations. Other screens hypnotize the viewer to the ebullient Uyghur music and dance gatherings, offering a glimpse at how weddings and holidays have been celebrated for centuries in the region. The walls are adorned with Uyghur musical instruments, paintings, tapestries, and other artifacts redolent of the geometrically-inspired Islamic art & architecture that spans Andalusía to Delhi. Very cozy and inviting. The staff have always treated me with impeccable friendliness and swift service. The food has thus far been consistent, fresh, and tasty. I have been to Dolans at least 25 times, and will keep going back.Dont forget to try the Uyghur honey cake, which most resembles Medovik, the Russian honey cake. Order it with their herbal tea.If I could give six stars, I would. You will not be disappointed.PS- make sure to read about the plight of the Uyghurs and their need for support on the international stage. This rich, great civilization needs to be preserved and their rights protected. Google Uyghurs!

Spanglish Kitchen
526 N Atlantic Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91801, United States
This place always amazed me, Its in the coroner of a tiny parking lot and has so many options chilaquiles, flautas, tortas, quesadillas, tacos, flan, burritos, and so much more. The meats are well seasoned and have no fat hanging on. Veggis options are also available. My favorite things to get here are the chicken tacos with the green salsa, which is in my opinion their best, not over powering yet adds a kick of flavor; as well, as there tortas which have a nice soft bread a slice of queso fresco, tomatoes, crisp lettuce, avocado, and meat of your choice. With the torta you get potato chips( which looks luke they make there?) a roasted chilli seasoned with some delightful salt. If thirst they have fouantin drinks, water, horchata, and freshly made melon water. Finally if you have room for dessert they have a average tasting flan.I would recommend this place for quick bite or for take out. ?
