Olive Garden Italian Restaurant
5500 Grossmont Center Dr Suite #420, La Mesa, CA 91942, United States
Me and two of my friend went there at 9:45 pm. When we got to the front of the restaurant the nanager said it was OK to sit at a table but we would have to order quickly because the kitchen closes at 10:00.. We were seated at the table and ordered right away bc we knew what we wanted before we got there. We always go toOlive Garden. She took our order and left she brought us one bowl of salad and one small bowl of soup. When we finished them she never came to ask us if we wanted more since it is all you can eat soup and salad. We looked around she was no where to be found . When she brought us our meals. I asked for more soup, salad and bread she said they ran out. Its all you can eat? Then she brings our Iced Teas with no ice. It tasted really warm. I asked her why there was no ice in our Iced Teas. She tells me they ran out of Ice. How do you run out of ice? Its an ice machine that constantly produces ice. The first Teas she brought us had ice the second round didnt. The place was empty. When we got to the restaurant there where hardly any people. How do you run out of everything? Sounds like they wanted to kick us out. It was not even that late it was 10 :15. They close at 10:00. Very bad service and unprofessional, also rude. When I was going to pay I was going to tell her sorry I ran out. If I pay full price I should get full service. If I get half service I pay half the price. Thats the way the world works. I ended up paying full price bc my friends didnt want to make a scene. Or were embarrassed. My name is Andy.It was rhe Grossmont Olive Garden. It happened August 3rd.
Panera Bread
5500 Grossmont Center Dr #145, La Mesa, CA 91942, United States
I havr been to a couple of different Panera Bread locations across the state. I travel for work and live in La Mesa so I decided to finally try the local Panera in my hood (so to speak) Maybe I had high expectations but I have never had a more terrible sandwhich then what I had tonight and the store was a complete disaster. It wasnt busy maybe 10 other people in the restaurant. There were dirty dishes everywhere. Split beverages on seat cushions. It was disgusting but I stuck it out and decided to order. Perhaps someone called in sick. I had my family with me and it took a while for us to order. This process is usually quick and efficient but the guy helping us was making it way too complicated and so it went. We searched for a clean booth to accommodate everyone and never found one. Despite several employees wandering around I ended up cleaning the table myself. It took 25 minutes to get our food. Yes I timed it because at this point I knew the experience overall was not going to be a good one.Our food was delivered by a disheveled angry white guy who looked like he truly hated his job. He plopped everything down in less then 10 seconds all the while asking us if everything is alright with our meal before we have even seen it. Then by the time we figure out whos is whos he is gone and never bothers to return to us to ask if there was anything we needed. Mind you this entire time I think a total of 12 people came into the restaurant and all the dirty tables around us remained as they were. Dirty. The food was absolutely terrible. The portions were small and the preparation was sloppy and inconsistent. Some of us got mayo others didnt despite ordering the same sandwich. They were out of most of their breads despite it being 6 PM. They didnt have sprouts. My turkey looked like the canned chicken or turkey you use for salads. My guacamole was brown. It was just bad and stayed that way. We cleared our own table and left without ever seeing or engaging with an employee. Oh but the blood orange lemonade was off the hook.

La Mesa Pizzaworks

La Mesa Pizzaworks is the new kid in town. Not only that, but they are also a Kosher supervised by the San Diego VAAD.I didnt get a whole pie, but some slices to try a variety. I tried the margharita, the BBQ, the I cant not believe it is pepperoni slice. All the slices were great. I was particularly fond of the BBQ sauce on one of the slices. I learned it is a house made kosher sauce, and its delicious! Its definitely a keeper. The plant based pepperoni was great, too. It is a little on the think side, but that promotes a good chew. Its flavor was spot on, and their mind and palate registered pepperoni indeed. The Margharita slice was good, too. The sauce was tasty, and the basil was fresh. The crust on all their pizzas is slightly bready and could use a little chew, in my opinion. It is a very good house made kosher crust. They offer a good amount of inside seating. The menu consists of pizzas, leafless salads, appetizers, soups, pastas, and my favorite: calzones, which I look forward to trying on my next visit. The service was very friendly.

Signature Thai Cuisine

First time here for a special meal & it was wonderful.Tried some new dishes haven’t tried before. The entrees were flavorful, hot and large in portions. The soup we had was not the typical Tom kha or Tom yum it was called Po-Tak and it was excellent full of bright but balanced flavors.I had never tried the Pad Woonsen as it’s not typically available at Thai restaurants. Highly recommend that dish with shrimp. Our server Amy was excellent she was so helpful & attentive. If you can get Amy you have good luck!Everyone else was nice & helpful too, pleasant vibe from everyone. The decor for Valentine’s Day was spot on and perfect.
The AubreyRose Tea Room
8362 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, CA 91942, United States
Went for my best friends birthday. Wonderful atmosphere. Our server was also very attentive even with how busy they were as this place is open limited days so they are bustling; especially with parties. The servers also dont use pens and pads or anything past their own memory so hats off to them. I could never. We started off with tea, the house blend. Very nice but then I moved to their peaches and cream blend and I swear if you like the quaker oats peaches and cream oatmeal packets you will LOVE this tea. Especially when you add cream and sugar to it.I also had a tea that tasted exactly like an Almond Joy... and it was pleasant. I actually hate coconut as a flavor, but it wasnt overpowering. It was chocolaty and tropical and very nice.I also had an earl grey that I cannot recall I think it had blue in the name it was also wonderful. Our starter was a cantaloupe soup that was cold and so so nice. I hate cantaloupe but it was perfect especially since the day was warm. It also came with a tea sandwich that was delicious too.Our tea tower had savory sandwiches on the bottom, scones, curd and cream in the middle and petite desserts on top.My favorites were the cucumber sandwich and the crusty bread with green beans and cheese on it.The scone was very flavorful and they have a wonderful lemon curd! Very bright and tart.Lastly I did enjoy the shortbread cookie with the peanut butter frosting on it.I will say since it was a tea, its all small portions so if you have a Big appetite you will be hungry very soon after, but if you fill up on the unlimited tea youll be alright. :)Will visit here again!
Izakaya Maze
6062 Lake Murray Blvd UNIT 201, La Mesa, CA 91942, United States
A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure to dine in for their 1 year anniversary dinner. Chef Nate Horton served us some of his best Japanese-Mexican infused cuisine. For the dinner feast, we had their welcome drinks, which was delicious! He started off by serving us the wagyu eggrolls, blistered shishitos, fried calamari, and bruesselsprouts, which all of it tasted great! Next, we had the izakayasliders (my favorite of the night), mushroom karrage (which we thought was a little too salty), and the duck fried rice (the duck was too dry for us). Lastly, he served us albondigyus, austrialian NY steak, and we had pre-ordered the 3lb wagyu. Overall, this experience was wonderful and such a pleasure to be served by the chef. Most of the time, we dont see them. However, disappointed that they told us we were done when we didnt get the dessert, which was included in the dinner feast. First, the server said chef is making some browning with miso ice cream, then he told us they didnt have brownie and gave us some ice cream. You think with such an elegant place, they would serve you a more delicate dessert. However, I have great experience and would recommend trying !

EDIT to address the reply: Misrepresenting our request in your summary in order to characterize it as unreasonable and absurd means this place is not run by professionals as I had hoped. Ive lowered the rating in light of this and to increase visibility in the hopes of improvement. Good luck---My wife and I really liked this place the first three times we were there for take out.I tried the food and found the sandwich delicious, but the amount of meat piled in the center made it come apart or push other ingredients out. The solution should be easy. The next time, I explained the problem, and basically asked for two sandwiches with half the amount of meat on each. They were happy to help. I was charged for two dude (3 inch) sandwiches, (which cost more than a single sandwich), which makes sense as there is effectively extra bread, bacon, etc. I got two sandwiches with half the meat each, and I was happy. The third time I had basically the same experience. The fourth time, it all fell apart.I ordered the same sandwiches the same way Id ordered twice before. Including the part about paying for dude size sandwiches etc. When I received the sandwiches, there were only two (with half meat in each).I tried to re-explain what I wanted, and that something had gone wrong, and she happily took the sandwiches back (though I wasnt sure why) and said they would make them again. We waited, and I was then presented with two full size sandwiches simply cut in half with the halves wrapped separately...At this point I felt like I was failing to explain myself somehow, the manager came over, and I explained the whole situation much like I have here.He tried to explain to me that the prices had to do with prep time as well as ingredients and several other factors he had to consider, and said that two full sandwiches, though they contain half the portion of meat, might need to be an upcharge from the dude price.Even though the dude is *already* upcharged, (more than the cost of half a sandwich), I said Id be happy to pay whatever is fair to get them made the way we want. We could not wait any longer, however, and took our incorrectly made order and left. Our final visit was yesterday. We gave extra time in case it would require another explanation, and were glad to see the manager present. I greeted him and asked how he had decided to charge us. After reiterating a number of factors, he stated that if we wanted our sandwiches modified with a smaller portion of meat, wed still have to pay the full price of the sandwich. This means, to get what we wanted, wed have to pay for *four* full size sandwiches, and request half meat on each... I asked what happened to the upcharged dudes option and he spoke about franchise pricing and retraining staff... I asked if there wasnt *already* an upcharge on the menu, for extra bacon or something, which he could add to the dude to meet his perceived price requirements, and he said that existed, but it wouldnt work... I even explained the actual problem, that the sandwiches fall apart with all the meat lumped in the middle and what he could do, and he said the way the sandwiches are assembled is dictated by the franchise and could not be modified.I was willing to pay a fair price, but double the menu price for what had been easy twice before seemed unreasonable, and there seemed to be no way of explaining that to the manager. Disappointed, and out of ideas, I told him, somewhat curtly, that wed therefore be unable to eat there, and we left empty handed.Im not posting this punitively. Despite our disagreement, everyone handled themselves professionally, but for such a reasonable request to be beyond their ability requires a response.I hope that this feedback will reach someone that can affect a change, but the quality of the food doesnt outweigh the frustrating experience we had.
I QUE BBQ
8733 Broadway, La Mesa, CA 91941, United States
Not a real BBQ place. …based on the what was ordered…Reason 1. Brisket is cut with the grain as shown in the picture. No true BBQ place would do that or make such an amateur mistake like that.Reason 2. Brisket is bland. Was this boiled then smoked? Where's the bark? Where's the flavor?Reason 3. Burnt ends are delicious if you can find them. Not sure what I ordered. It was more like charred fat. Real BBQ places have a very limited supply of burnt ends and is usually sold by the pound.Reason 4. Why would you smother sauce all over the burnt ends? Why are you trying to hide the flavor? Quality BBQ does not require sauce. It's delicious straight from the smoker…well after the meat has time to rest. What I ordered…Baked Beans: It's edible. Needs something…Beef Hotlink: Tasted more like a sausage than anything. Not my flavor or texture.Brisket: Bland. No bark. It was a sad plate of meat.Burnt Ends: More like lightly charred fat triangles. Smothered in sauce…just why?Collards: It was edible. Doesn't really complement the food ordered.Drummies: It's edible.I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but this is a very amateur BBQ restaurant. I get it, there's a lot of food to be prepped, but come on. Trying to pass this food off as BBQ is a pathetic joke. This place is edible, not enjoyable. Why are the reviews so high? …because the reviewers are. Welcome to California.
