Nine times out of ten the food quality is very good, I enjoy the steak more than the chicken. I have been going to the store in Encinitas most of my adult life. I moved jobs and now Carlsbad location is closest to me for lunch. The last three times I went in has been a struggle. I called and spoke with one of the owners who identified himself as the older brother and asked that I give them another chance and to call him before I went in so he could cover my meal for me. I went down today and tried to call him but was unable to get ahold of him so I went in and ordered anyway. While I was ordering I asked if they could make sure there was enough rice. The woman taking my order squinted at me and acted like she didnt understand, I had a hard time understanding her too so I thought this was totally possible, so I spoke slower and enunciated my words. She then asked if I would like to forgo the salad for extra rice. As I had obviously failed to communicate the first two times I surrendered to her idea. she then turned to me and said sorry they already made it, sorry. Then proceeded to try to help the next customer. I told her if my food could not be made correctly then I would like a refund please. This too was met with resistance by both her and the person who eventually gave me my refund. Everyone makes mistakes. its how those mistakes were handled and how I was treated for pointing them out that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I will still try the Encinitas location, if I am ever in the area, but as for my employees and myself, we will not be returning to Carlsbad.

When I walked into the shop, it was very quiet with just one customer inside. Im not sure why, as the food I had is great. The restaurant is quaint and clean. Although there was no one up front to take my order for a few minutes, once they came out, I was greeted with a smile and a very polite cashier. She was attentive to my order and very pleasant to talk with. I placed my order to go and then stepped out for a few minutes while they prepared my order.The menu here is robust. I chose the pad see ew with tofu as my protein. I additionally ordered their Thai spring rolls with tofu as my protein.The pad sew ew was extremely flavorful! The portion is huge and actually fed my daughter and I. The flat, glass noodles were tender and packed with flavor from the brown sauce. You get hints of sweet, savory, and a mild hint of garlic as well. There are plenty of vegetables and tofu strewn within the dish. Excellent is what comes to mind when I think about its flavors.The spring rolls were my highlight. The rice paper wrapper was pliable and held up to the heavily stuffed roll. You could taste the fresh flavors of the thinly sliced and crisp carrots, bran sprouts, rice noodles, fresh mint, and crunchy lettuce. The peanut sauce served on the side for dipping was creamy, with a great combination of sweet, spicy, salty, and savory. A perfect compliment to the dish!

While State street expands and quality neighborhood bars vanish, Same Same provides something different than the dilapidated nearby bars out of touch and living on former glory.Its still got the bones of Clara, but a much needed decor update inspired by travels to Thailand. The pink lighting is surprisingly unstripclub like. Think neon vibes, but classy.They are working on solidifying their final menus and run vendors initially, so check social for the ever rotating offerings. Come for the drinks and ambiance, but stay for the secret desserts.Youll find classics brought with them from former bars along with new inventive ever changing menu. A solid back bar selection lends itself to the fun dice roll game to pick your brown bag random drink. Think Compass mystery wine offerings promotion, but for spirits. Fresh espresso for their espresso martini is a nice touch despite improvements to recipes made with just coffee liqueur, fresh is best.I cant wait to see their final vision come to life as they hit their stride and you shouldnt hesitate to check them out. Locals will recognize these guys and see what good they are doing.
