My Thai Restaurant
1230 4th St, San Rafael, CA 94901, United States
Ive got a buddy who recently opened up a nail salon out here in the city. Twin sisters spa, next to the 7-Eleven and the barbershop. Check it out when you get a chance. I was helping him renovate the space in preparation for their grand opening and the night ran late. Im leaving the city. I decided I needed some food before I hit the road and being a fan of Thai food, I decided to try this. For those of you who have read my other tie reviews, you will know that I chase this basil chicken dish that all Thai restaurants make, but theres a particular Thai restaurant that makes it the best for my palette that no longer is in business. The basil chicken at this Thai restaurant is almost identical to that experience so you can imagine that I was on cloud 9 with this dish. It was so good, that I came back to San Rafael and took my buddy here for dinner and all their other dishes were also fantastic. They were flavored just right with that classic Thai flavor where the concern at Thai restaurants typically is whether or not the dish is under flavored. He loved it, and have taken others here since. And I have also returned to take my family here as well and they enjoyed the experience also. I can say without a doubt that this is a great Thai food experience and the decor in their small restaurant seems very authentic Thailand as well. The restaurant is located in the downtown so I had a nice walk to and from the Spa. Every time I come into San Ramon or visit my friend at the nail salon, this is a must stop by for me. I also try and get him to bring me an order of basil chicken if hes coming back from there and passing by my home. Im so happy that I can get my fix even if it is not as accessible as it used to be. Knowing I now have the option again is enough for me.
Pho Viet Harbor
555 Francisco Blvd E, San Rafael, CA 94901, United States
Mediocre food and I mean its nice...you get what u expect....tacky plastic lights,Asian decor n to be frank the place had no personality ....now a lot of cops go there n other people too who must like what they serve....I seen the back of the kitchen n the way they handle refuse n the fact they mostly all smoke like crazy....n these are the people preparing, handling food?? Im not goin there again...its my choice n my opinion that the kitchen is not the cleanest but again is my opinion by the way their refuse is handled n dirty on the side entrance....to me its a not very clean....most people would not see this side of business but check it out....n dont park too far from restaurant...that harbor is full of undesirables, drugs rampant n at night the homeless roam the place casing the joint as they say....that harbor needs to be shut down, sanitized n the sea water in it is so polluted u can walk in it...Im just not comfortable eating in a place 40 ft from this environmental nightmare....
Calgang Thai Eatery
194 Northgate Dr one, San Rafael, CA 94903, United States
Ive known Calgang since I was a little girl–back when it was actually known as Jhan Thong and located in the Northgate shopping mall, where Jhan Thong could practically be considered gourmet. It was so out of place, situated between McDonalds and Taco Bell, and for the first decade of my life this was the only Thai food I knew. My parents would take me to the mall just for Thai dinner–its that good. Today, the food remains just as delicious. Rich, flavorful panang curry, tender chicken satay, pan fried eggplant, and their incomparable Pad Thai are my personal favorites. And let me tell you about this Pad Thai–deep peanut flavor cut through by lime, cilantro, and chili. If you go to Calgang and dont order the pad thai, then youve made a serious mistake. I have yet to encounter a better tasting Pad Thai. Just last night, I made a run out to Calgang to get a combination plate of Tom Yum soup, spinach salad, and tofu panang curry without rice for my mother. When I returned home, she realized that she had meant to order the Tom Kha soup instead and there was rice (which comes with any combination at no charge). So, I returned to Calgang and explained the mixup. They took back the Tom Yum soup (no questions asked) to exchange it for a Tom Kha and gave me an extra order of the Panang Curry–even though, the mistake was no fault of their own–amazing! My rating is three stars becuase the restaurant atmosphere itself is not so ideal with the to-go counter/register located in the back, which means diners are disturbed by foot traffic, and overall, the space feels a bit austere and sparse..

Laos Kitchen

There are no Laos restaurants in Marin County.Love their fried chicken appetizers and Laos jerked beef with sticky rice and dipping sauce.Started with the Lemon tea which was awesome, and the passion fruit drink was amazing. They serve Lao Beer, you should try it. Taste like Corona.Their papaya salad was a perfect blend of sweet/sour/spicy. As a Laos/ Chinese American, it was the closest you can get without going to Laos. I encourage you to visit Laos.Their sticky rice wasnt dried at all even when cooled which tells me it was steamed fresh. We also had the Pad Se Ew with Shrimp, which was moist, and the shrimp was cooked just right. The texture was the same as the noodle, soft and moist. We also had their Larb, just like the salad was the perfect blend of spices. The vegetable garnishes were perfect and crunchy. There were a couple of dishes like the bamboo salad also good with sticky rice and a steamed pork sausage also went well with sticky rice. After our meal, we ordered sticky rice with ice cream topped with a coconut sauce that was drizzled on top that married the two very well.I encouraged anyone to try it. The place is spacious, well-decorated, and chill. The bathrooms are very clean and decorated.
Red Rooster Brick Oven
901 B St, San Rafael, CA 94901, United States
My boyfriend and I recently visited this restaurant and was thoroughly impressed with their delicious food and friendly service. I ordered the house clam chowder and my boyfriend ordered the chicken pesto sandwich with garlic fries, and I have to say that it was one of the best meals Ive had in a while. The chicken pesto sandwich was perfectly toasted, and the pesto was packed with flavor, complementing the juicy chicken perfectly. The garlic fries were crispy and flavorful, and they were the perfect side to the sandwich. The portion size was generous, and I appreciated the fact that everything was made fresh to order. The clam chowder was creamy and savory, with chunks of tender clams and potatoes in every bite. It was the perfect comfort food. The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and welcoming, with friendly staff who made me feel at home. The service was prompt and attentive, and the food arrived quickly and was hot and fresh.
