K-Grill & Tofu House
617 San Mateo Ave, San Bruno, CA 94066, United States
I went to K grill & tofu house for dinner with my family and we had a great time. The restaurant is located on San Mateo Ave in San Bruno, and it offers authentic Korean cuisine. The restaurant is spacious and clean. The service was friendly and attentive, and our food came out fast and hot. The menu has a variety of dishes, such as soft tofu soup, bulgogi, bibimbap, seafood pancake, and grilled meat. We ordered the Pork Bulgogi, which was thinly sliced pork marinated in a sweet and savory sauce and stir-fried with onions and carrots. It was tender and flavorful, and it came with a bowl of rice and some side dishes (banchan). We also ordered the Combo Soft Tofu Soup, which was a spicy soup with soft tofu, beef, seafood, mushrooms, and vegetables. It was served in a hot stone pot that kept the soup bubbling throughout the meal. The soup was rich and spicy, and the tofu was silky and soft. The soup also came with rice and banchan. The banchan included kimchi, potato salad, bean sprouts, spinach, radish, and seaweed salad. They were all fresh and tasty, and we could ask for refills anytime. We also ordered the Haemul Pajeon, which was a large seafood pancake with green onions, squid, shrimp, mussels, and clams. It was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, and it had a lot of seafood in it. It was served with a dipping sauce that added some tanginess to the dish. The portion was generous and we shared it among ourselves. The prices were reasonable for the amount and quality of food we got. I would definitely recommend K grill & tofu house to anyone who loves Korean food or wants to try something new.

Myung Dong Tofu Cabin
2968 S Norfolk St, San Mateo, CA 94403, United States
Family’s style restaurants. We came because of some Korean food cravings. Our favorite is tofu stew, so we ordered it in this new place we found. The tofu stew was good for my husband’s extra spicy, but my white tofu stew was quite bland. I expected no spicy tofu stew should at least have some flavors, like how other Korean restaurants do. This one was too plain so I asked for extra side dishes to eat with it. It was a disappointment because we always have to order one white tofu stew for our toddler to share with us.Other than that, the banchan was okay. Services were good. If you pay cash, you get 5% discounts.

BentoSprout
212 2nd Ave, San Mateo, CA 94401, United States
Found Bento Sprouts on Google search since I needed to organized a safe and healthy luncheon for my boss and colleagues at work. Due to Covid19 I realized that we couldn't plan to have party trays for a buffet for our event at this time because of the possibility of spreading the virus. So I wanted meals that are personally prepared individually secured and safe. As I was going through their website, it was not so hard for me to decide and pick them for our event. I contacted Bento Sprouts and left a quick message of inquiry, almost immediately I received a call back from Mireille. She was very attentive and accommodating to our needs and took our orders accordingly. She was also able to prepare me an invoice that was sent to me via email where I can also easily make adjustments and pay for our bill. The day of the event came and Mireille was on point and was able to deliver our orders on time. The presentation of the Bento Boxes was super neat and cute, all the food was made fresh and they were super delicious! I definitely will be contacting them again for future events. Thank you so much Mireille and Bento Sprouts you guys were amazing!!!

Wakuriya
115 De Anza Blvd, San Mateo, CA 94402, United States
Wakuriya is a restaurant that is forward-thinking, serious, and well-established. They manage to effectively merge a profound reverence for the kaiseki heritage with a touch of modernity. This is primarily due to the fact that there is just one chef working behind the counter, Katsuhiro Yamasaki; the dining room is expertly managed by his wife. Every month, diners can look forward to a fresh and improved cuisine that showcases the unique flair of the chef with the finest ingredients from Japan and California. The courses are presented in a creative and distinctive manner, such as a silver spoon cradling bits of poached lobster served with dashi gelée, a soft-boiled Jidori egg, and fried kombu. Even though this establishment is not a sushiya, the sashimi selection is top-notch all the same. Find the same degree of skill in the steamed Alaskan black fish topped with fluffy grated turnip, as well as in the shirako tofu that is topped with kabocha squash tempura.

Chai Yo Thai Cuisine
2116 S El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA 94403, United States
I recently had a mouthwatering pad thai experience at Chai Yo Thai, and let me just say, it exceeded my expectations in every possible way! From the moment I entered the restaurant, I was greeted with warm smiles and a cozy ambiance that immediately transported me to Thailand. The fragrant aromas wafting from the kitchen only fueled my excitement for the imminent feast. Now, lets talk about the star of the show: their pad thai. Words cannot express how delectable it was! The dish was a harmonious symphony of flavors, striking a perfect balance between sweet, tangy, and savory. Each mouthful kept me longing for more, as the combination of chewy rice noodles, succulent shrimp, and perfectly cooked chicken created a heavenly texture and delightful taste that was hard to resist. What truly set Chai Yo Thais pad thai apart was its incredible freshness. Unlike other places Ive tried, their version wasnt weighed down by excess oil, giving it an air of lightness that only enhanced the vibrant flavors. It was evident that the ingredients were sourced with utmost care, as the vegetables were remarkably fresh and crisp. I couldnt help but appreciate the dedication to quality and attention to detail put into every single element of the dish.Furthermore, the portion size was more than generous, ensuring that I left with a satisfied palate and a happy belly. Despite being packed with flavor, I didnt feel overwhelmed or heavy after finishing my plate. This made the dining experience all the more enjoyable, as I could savor each bite without worrying about feeling sluggish afterward. The service at Chai Yo Thai was impeccable. The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive throughout my visit. They were more than happy to answer any questions about the menu and offer their recommendations, which made me feel at ease and comfortable in making my choices. In addition to the fantastic pad thai, I must also mention the overall ambiance of the restaurant. The cozy decor and gentle lighting provided a perfect backdrop for a relaxing evening of indulgence. The attention to detail was apparent, from the charming Thai-inspired artwork to the subtle Thai music that enhanced the dining experience and transported me to the bustling streets of Bangkok. In conclusion, Chai Yo Thai is a hidden gem in the realm of Thai cuisine. Their pad thai is a symphony of fresh flavors that will delight your taste buds and leave you craving more. With exceptional service, a cozy ambiance, and an unwavering commitment to quality, Chai Yo Thai is truly a culinary haven for Thai food enthusiasts. Absolutely outstanding Japanese sushi restaurant! Be sure to call in for a reservation, and be prepared for an authentic Japanese sushi experience. The sushi menu is hand written, and changes daily. I highly recommend the chawan mushi- perfectly steamed steam with small pieces of crab, scallops, and fish. Homemade rich and creamy tofu- texture like cream cheese. Blue fin tuna carpaccio with truffles- sashimi cuts Smokey flavor of white truffle. Last appetizer: Japanese eggplant with miso: perfectly grilled, delicious sauce.Omakase selection was impressive- 8 pieces of deliciousness! Served in two parts, first group of four: Japanese butter fish, Japanese striped Jack, Japanese wild young yellowtail, minced fatty tuna, Japanese king mackerel, Japanese skip Jack, ikura, anago, and egg castella.

SAMIKCHA MOMO Indian-Nepali Cuisine
146 E 3rd Ave, San Mateo, CA 94401, United States
We went to this place after reading a lot of positive reviews. I wish I could rate this place with negative stars. We had ordered Garlic Tikka Fries,Chilli Paneer Bhaat Bowl and VEG MOMOS.The Garlic Tikka Fries were under seasoned fries sprinkled with some garlic. There was no Tikka seasoning in it which made the fries bland.Chilli Paneer Bhaat Bowl: The paneer in Chilli Paneer was hard and chewy. But the fried rice was good.VEG MOMOSWe had specifically ordered VEG MOMOS because we are vegetarians. The lady in the restaurant brought Momos and when we tasted it,it tasted unusual. We were in doubt because Veg momos didnt have any vegetables and there was something chewy stuffing in it. So when we asked the hotel staff(lady) she told casually that it was Chicken Momo. We had specifically ordered VEG MOMOS and the staff gave Chicken Momos. They were not even sorry about it. She asked if she could get another order but we had already lost interest to eat there so we asked for bill. We couldnt eat fries nor Chilli Paneer Bhaat Bowl nor the Momos. But the staff billed 21.95$ and told that she had billed for Bhaat Bowl n fries and gave 10% discount. This was like rip off because it was their mistake to mess up the order, spoil our dinner and then also charge for what we couldnt eat.So guys if you have dietary restriction then either double check what is served or avoid this place. We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was pathetic experience for us..

Hunan Mifen San Mateo
123 W 25th Ave, San Mateo, CA 94403, United States
New Hunan mifen restaurant in San Mateo. It is interesting that it opens next to another rice noodle restaurant. Parking is a challenge. It was not busy when we arrived but it was filled up fast. You ordered using your phone by scannjng QR code. We ordered dry and soup based noodles. The order was ready quickly. The beef bone meats are tender but not much meat. The noodle soup is clear and not spicy. You just add the soup from the bone if you want spicy. You can enjoy it non spicy or spicy. You get the coriander leaf in front of the open kitchen. The dry noodle is spicy. It doesnt have much meat. Both are yummy, but they are filling.Overall, it is yummy, but I think the beef rip soup has very strong spices, and I got a bit uncomfortable after that for some time.

Ox 9 Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles
11 S B St, San Mateo, CA 94401, United States
3 stars for food, 0 for ethics. The owner said she smelled stinky tofu which should be take out food from the next restaurant. I have bagged food but no stinky tofu and no plan to eat outside food here. However she walked straight to me, and only to me, to ask me to take my stuff out of the store. I offered to open my bag to show nothing stinky and she refused. Another table had a mochi donut box, yet she said she didn’t need to check that and it is fine to keep it in the store. WHY? Because that box looks pretty so you believe it doesn’t contain anything smelly? I’d be ok if you have a store rule, however you need to apply your rule fairly to everyone. If you want to find out who brought smelly things, you shall check every table everyone’s bag. I felt very offensed by this biased behavior.
