Hummus Bar & Grill
18743 Ventura Blvd, Tarzana, CA 91356, United States
The HUMMUS BAR AND GRILL offers excellent Middle Eastern cuisine at moderate prices. I have been driving past this eatery for years, and not noticing it. Its hard to spot with trees and umbrellas camouflaging the entrance. This is a large neighborhood restaurant, with seating on the unbrella and tent protected, heated-cooled patio for 50 or so, plus the dog of your choice. Inside there are two dining rooms. Our server, Eli is knowledgeable, friendly, and asked a question I had never been asked before. What language do you wish for service? We chose English. Each table gets a set-up of pickled vegetables, olives, and Israeli spicy coleslaw. After being seated, a LP sized pita arrives from the kitchen, steaming hot. We tear servings, family style, from the community portion.Their menu offers seven varieties of hummus, twenty salads, and chicken hearts and livers. Also available are Gyros and several types of kabobs. As an appetizer, our table ordered hummus with toasted pine nuts. The presentation is bowl-shaped, with the center filled with toasted pine nuts. The serving, large enough for six, is smooth, mildly spiced, and delicious. And, of course, there is the unlimited, freshly baked pita. (Our table of four enjoyed two.)There are many vegetarian/vegan items on the menu. I ordered the Israeli salad. The large and mildly spiced salad contains cucumbers, red onions, red peppers, mint, and parsley. It is finished with a light olive oil and lemon juice dressing. The rest of our table ordered mega (chicken) schnitzel, chicken liver skewers, and chicken shawarma. The servings were large enough that almost half of each entree was boxed to take home. Astar, the manager, stopped by to see if everything is to our liking. It was.Now it is time for dessert. We ordered baklava and chocolate mousse. Unfortunately, neither dessert is vegan. However, the other three tablemates devoured the rich, wonderful sweetness. The menu is clearly marked for vegan, vegetarian, kosher and conventional proteins. Conventional proteins include: chicken, beef, and lamb. All may be prepared as kabobs, on skewers, broiled, or fried. Gluten free items are indicated. Chicken nuggets are on the childrens menu.Free parking is provided. Everything is wheelchair accessible including the bathrooms. There is underground parking to protect your car during the San Fernando Valleys summer days.Okay, I made a mistake not visiting this neighborhood restaurant. Ive had meals all over the world. And to miss one this good, just a few blocks from my front door, is unthinkable. As Judy Garland said, playing Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, Theres no place like home. Who would have guessed?

IF YOU ARE USING MOBILE ORDERING, BE ADVISED:1) The person who placed the order needs to pick it up with photo ID and the card used to place the order. Why am I telling you this? Because they wont tell you this until you after the fact.I placed a mobile order on 9/5/16 (about $13 total) and my husband went to pick it up. Weve done this several times before without issue. The email confirmation does not stipulate that the person who placed the order, or their ID/card must be present. As soon as you place the order, your card is charged. When my husband got to the drive through to pick up the order, they wouldnt give him the food and said that I would have to come pick it up myself (hows THAT for convenient?). After a lot of back and forth, he finally said that he would just order the same thing and pay with his card. The woman in the drive through said if he was paying with his card, she needed to see his ID because how do I know youre not a liar? He left without any food and I have been working on getting my money back ever since.I immediately tried calling the store and they didnt answer. I then called their corporate number and they said theyd put in the refund request and that the regional manager would call me back within 3 business days.I didnt hear anything or see any charges reversed, so I started reaching out to Taco Bell customer service through Facebook. They were nice, but again, nothing happened. After 8 business days and me complaining more, they finally asked for a screenshot of my email confirmation so they could request the refund. I followed up the next day and they said the refund request has been submitted but refunds take 7-10 business days to process. Mind you, this is 8 biz days after I made my initial call to corporate! At that point, I was beyond irritated, so I started becoming that person and tweeting complaints at them relentlessly on Twitter. Lo and behold, the regional manager finally called and explained the local franchise has made the $10 card charge/ID requirement. Initially she said they dont normally process refunds, and that people deal with issues like this by contesting the charge with the bank. REALLY????! Then she offered for me to go to the store and get a refund in person. SO YOU WANT ME TO DRIVE BACK TO THE STORE TO GET MY MONEY?? Then she said shed make an exception and send me a money order. It was such a frustrating conversation. My whole point is that mobile ordering is supposed to be convenient, but theyve made it a complete pain. And treated my husband suspiciously. And made it SO DIFFICULT to get my money back.Long story short, this franchise is terrible and I will never return.#notacosforyou #chipotlealltheway

Have $5 off coupon from dining advantage and thought Id try this place out. The attendant was very cheerful but skeptical when I showed her a copy of my coupon which on the app specified to print out. She asked if I can show her the original, I told her yes, its on the app so I proceeded to pull it out on my phone and showed it to her, she then say, dont worry honey I believe you....... !?She asked if I wanted 1lb, I told her 2 because the cookies looked really good, she confirmed with me that Id only get $5 max discount. I told her that Im aware and asked her to give me an assortment of the most popular cookies. She did a great job on laying them out on the box. After weighing the box, she told me that its $21.84, frankly I was shocked - this meant that it was about $13/lb!After trying them cookies, Ive got to say they were mediocre and I didnt find them exceptional to be charged so high. I was glad I double dipped this with groupon cash back

We were passing through and stopped here for lunch. We are so glad we did!T got the ribeye sandwich. He really loved it!! Said it was pretty filling and the meat was really good. Came with fries as well that were nice and soft on the inside. Not the thin cut type of fries.I had the Make it yours salad. They have soo many toppings to choose from and are very generous with them. The fried eggplant was a highlight. The shishito peppers were too spicy for me. So many seeds!!! A highlight of the meal was the bread. I would just buy the bread even. It was perfectly toasted! I dont think Ive ever had bread more perfect than that. Lol. And I feel and sound like a bread fanatic but Im really not. The dressing they have is also amazing. Im not sure what it was though.T also got this Israeli drink that was amazing and so unique! Sounds like itd be weird but it wasnt.Service is excellent as well. They have high chairs in case you have little ones. The bathroom was nice and clean. Outdoor as well as indoor seating available. A little pricier than Id normally spend at $12 a salad without an added protein or fat like tuna / avocado but well worth it

Oh dang, this place is hecka good. As someone who is new to the Valley, I am still trying to wrap my mind around the abundance of Middle Eastern food on every block. Its a challenge I am more than happy to undertake. This was one of my first forays into the genre, and what an excellent choice. Its delicious, fresh, and affordable. I really appreciate the many options for both carnivores and vegetarians. And while youre waiting for your food, you can pass the time by perusing the many many many grocery items on their shelves--it kind of defies the laws of physics the variety and diversity and sheer quantity of things they have on offer.
Tel Aviv Fish Grill

Terrible service! Do you want to order delivery from this cafe and not receive it? Then you have come to the right place! Today I received an order for food delivery from this cafe. And when I arrived at the restaurant on time, they told me that I needed to wait 10-15 minutes because the fish needed to be cooked. I asked if 10-15 minutes would be enough and if everything was okay?I was told that yes, After 15 minutes the order would be ready, When I arrived After 15 minutes I was told that I should contact the customer and inform him that the cake he ordered was out of stock. But, friends, I am just an intermediary between you and the customer and am responsible for the timely and safe delivery of food. And your job is to know in advance what you have in stock and not accept orders if you don't have them. After the client did not pick up the phone, the restaurant employees pretended that I was not there and that there was no order either. and they said that they have a lot of orders, and my client ordered a complex order. I lost 30 minutes of my working time. I was forced to cancel the order, although this was entirely the fault of the cafe staff. I would especially like to note the work of the girl who puts the food into bags. Disgusting attitude and indifference to other peoples work and clients! I do not recommend this restaurant for food delivery. If you waited half an hour for your order and then it was cancelled, rest assured that this restaurant will simply say that it's just your order that's complicated!
