Charley Noodle & Grill

There are very few times that Yelp has led me down a wrong path and this is one of them. Im not sure how this place receives an average 4 star rating. We ordered the ramen with spicy tonkatsu broth. You have to add each topping separately. Most ramen incorporates the spices to the soup base to make it spicy. When I received it, there was a layer of hot oil floating on top. The noodles tasted like the ramen noodles from a package. It has that same waxy exterior that is very distinctive. The signs of a good ramen is the noodle and the soup. Both failed. The egg was over cooked and the yolk had a grayish ring. The one redeeming thing is the minced pork. It was flavorful, but again on the dry side.My husband ordered the General Tsos chicken. The batter was light and crispy, but the chicken was super dry. The sauce was sweet without the spicy and tangy.

I went here because the reviews were good. At first I sat outside, but it was freezing cold, so then I opted to go back inside. It was still cold inside. For some reason they leave the door open, so its pretty cold inside. I would definitely recommend to bring a jacket. I was expecting just an average Italian restaurant maybe a little better, but I found a diamond in the rough. When I got there a man who looks like an owner was at my service from the time I arrived till the time I left. Within two minutes my drinks were on the table and I had warm tasty bread with some kind of olive oil mixed with some sort of vegetable I guess. I didnt really understand what he was saying was in the olive oil because his Italian accent was so thick and authentic. I enjoyed that he spoke some Italian to me here and there, because it made the effect of the Italian restaurant come alive. I asked him what was the best thing on the menu. Im from out of town and I dont really know what to order when I go to restaurants. He suggested some sort of pasta with pork shoulder. I agreed, thinking that it might be pretty good. I was wrong. It was probably one of the best Italian dishes Ive ever had. Im 52 years old and have traveled the world. And I can still say quite honestly that it was one of the best meals Ive had. Im only in town for a week and I plan to eat there at least three more times before I go. Im going to have the same meal that I ate. So overall the food was amazing and the service was excellent. The food and the service made me feel happy.
Barbayani Greek Taverna

Was interested to try based on our friends reviews. Went for a birthday dinner and decided to do a family style dinner so we could try more than one dish each. We got the following:Mezeths:Dip Tasting Platter (3) - dips were ok. Taramosalata tasted more like hummus than fish roe. There was not enough bread and the pita was undercooked. We did ask for more pita and it was delivered without question, but it was also undercooked.Dolmathes (2) - dry inside and not much flavor. would have been better if rice had cooked more and there was some sort of lemon sauce.Makapika (1) - came with about 8 brussels sprouts for $15 and the flavor, all agreed, was not good at all. What a waste.Saganaki (5) - the star of the appetizers. Healthy (or unhealthy) portion of flaming cheese. It, unfortunately was not delivered with bread to go with it and we had to ask for it.Mains:Moussaka (3) - just ok. Was a single layer as opposed to the multiple layers I am used to. With 6 people at our table, 1/2 of the 6 round by 1 high dish was left over. Price was $30 and was too expensive for what we received.Pastitsio (4) - came in a larger dish than the moussaka. I am used to a denser dish that sticks together. This was runny under the baked bechamel. Flavored with lots of cinnamon.Brizola Stofourno (3) - we were asked for the temperature of the pork and asked for medium. What we received was well done and dry. Described as double cut pork chops and what we received was 1 single cut pork chop. The fig sauce was very good, but not enough to cover the fact that the pork was tough and small.Moscharisia Souvlaki (3) - again, we were asked for the temperature of the beef and we asked for medium rare. The steak was cooked more medium, but definitely way better than the pork. It came slightly spiced, but pretty bland. The orzo salad had more flavor. A very average dish. It came with 1 skewer of about 5 1 square pieces for $32. We added a second skewer so we could all have some.Dessert:Galaktoboureko (4) - everyone liked this one. Portion was ok for the 6 of us to have a medium bite. But it, again, was $12 and not very worth it.Baklava (3) - our server gave this to us gratis as it was a birthday celebration. Filled with lots of pistachios and a filling that was good, but just held in by a thin layer of philo. Would have been much better with more philo and an outside crunch. Instead it was a bit soggy.Wine:We asked for a few tastes of the red wines by the glass to choose a bottle for the table. It was nice to get the tastes to see if we liked it first. However, the prices were quite high. One example is a Kim Crawford SB that you can get at a grocery store for $12 was $88 on their menu if that helps put it in perspective. All in all, it was a pretty mediocre meal that cost more than it should have. I dont plan to return.
Chef Chus
1067 N San Antonio Rd #1300, Los Altos, CA 94022, United States
Had lunch with my adult daughter, her choice, Chef Chus. I was about 10 minutes early and it was a packed house. I yold them two people even though my daughter wasnt there yet but I let him know itd be a few minutes. But like I said the house was full so it was going to be a few minutes late anyways and thats what the host communicated to me. Now here comes my only negative in this experience so I rolled over to the to the bar to get something to drink while I waited for my daughter and they were using the bar for seating and the tables in the bar but there was an open slot not set with tableware. Now there was one customer at the bar with just asked for menu and nobody else in the bar area except me there was what appeared to be a bartender behind the bar yet as I stood there he walked past me a couple of times, looked at me a couple times and never offered me a drink. In fact my table became available and I never did get that drink directly from the bar. So they sat me at a table for two although my daughter had yet to arrive and I thought that was really good because a lot of restaurants wont do that. A busboy immediately stop by and fill the waters there was hot tea that was delicious on the table I informed the busboy that Id like to order a drink and he sent the server over immediately. Great job up from the server and on anticipating that I been sharing my the appetizer vegetarian spring rolls that I had ordered and he cut it and distributed into two even portions onto two has my daughter sat down we ordered a drink for her and asked the way for a few minutes and he gave us a few minutes and returned. Our food amazingly quick and tasted delicious Chef cheese has been around for a while I hadnt been there for a while but it brought back memories of the last time Ive been there. The staff was friendly unintrusive and an anticipatory. Overall were rated a very positive lunch time experience and do recommend.
Green Bakery & Cafe
692 Fremont Ave, Los Altos, CA 94024, United States
I was pleasantly surprised by the food here. They just reopened recently after the pandemic and remodeled! Its truly like stepping into a AirBnB here. I liked the peaceful ambience and family-oriented vibe. I could see myself doing some computer work in here.I was impressed by their menu and bakery items. They have an extensive menu with all the expected cafe items. This Vietnamese inspired cafe surely has it all and everything tasted very fresh and tasty.Ordered:-Avocado smash (avocado toast): very generous with avocado and the bread was nice and soft-Vietnamese hot coffee-Vietnamese chicken salad-Ghiradelli chocolate muffinThe avocado smash was my favorite item. The meal felt healthy and they gave generous portions. I was highly satisfied with the meal and did not feel that full afterwards.
State Street Market

A new addition to Los Altos downtown that we checked out this past week. It is always nice to have more of these type of clean and casual food courts around, so you can go with groups of friends and there is usually something for everyone. Seating is spacious, although this could change. For now, there is ample space between tables so you dont hear each others conversations. This review is for Bao Bei, and not sure if our ceviche and drinks were from Murdochs or Ostro. If you are looking for authentic Asian flavors, or value, (ten dollars for one bao!) look elsewhere.Service was great, and while the fusion food was a hit or miss (for us), its well executed, and we appreciate having a place like this nearby, and would definitely go back when we want a quick bite in a clean environment in the hood.We ordered salmon ceviche, spicy pork belly bao, fried shrimp bao, and Dan Dan mian.Salmon ceviche was actually a poke, which we should have guessed from the ingredients list. Had an odd metallic aftertaste for us.We appreciated the spicy pork belly bao had some meat and not mostly pure fat like a lot of pork belly out there. Fat had some crisp rendered areas. No warmed over flavor here either. Zero Gochujang flavor though. (Being Korean, maybe I expected too much) Fried shrimp bao was a fried pureed fish mix, and tasted like there was more filler than shrimp. (In all fairness, Eddie Huang ruined us for baos, the bar is high. So sad baohaus is no more. Seriously we dream of those baos we would get after shopping in union square)Dan Dan mian was overwhelmingly peanut buttery. But still, if you dont want to sacrifice ambiance, (lets face it, we dont enjoy eating at Asian hole in the walls, and only do it if the food is so good you cant make it yourself or get it elsewhere) and want some Asiany style food that is more American, there are worse places.I enjoyed my Monte Carlo, but not the brown spotted citrus peel and floaty waxy bits. One of the reasons I tend to mix drinks at home.Updates: visited at least twice more, most recent April 23 after 3 pm. Come on Bao Bei, do better!BAO bei visually more appealing, but quality of filling decrease, and size of BAO buns increase. For anyone familiar with Taiwanese BAO, you may not be happy. BAO buns themselves are very thick, noticeably sweet. You could fill up on one plain BAO bun, they are that big.Spicy pork belly BAO now has a generous drizzle of gochujang sauce, but roughly 2/3 of filling is pure fat. One of our two spicy pork baos was 1/4 meat, and thats being generous. I did speak with the manager Andrew about that one, and requested a replacement. The replacement that you see in the pic was better, but better in that only half was fat. The fat is not being rendered properly period. And the thickness of the pork is a third, if that, of the bun.The fried chicken BAO is about 3 times the size as the pork belly (bun remaining same in size) but of poorly trimmed chicken thigh meat. Its a typical Asian style chicken cutlet, but they should really trim the gristle and fat, and pound it to an even thickness. The mushroom BAO, tasted mostly like Sriracha, as opposed to unami. It had one big stem on the bottom, and thinly sliced heads on top (maitake/shimeji), and as a mushroom lover, felt it could have been meatier. On another note, nice that they offer soji, that isnt the ubiquitous green glass bottle. Was leaning towards a mixed drink today, so gave the Monte Carlo another try. Service at the bar was attentive, and the coupe glasses were perfectly chilled. Orange peels could have been better, and do always check your glasses for chips, I almost cut my lip on my second Monte Carlo (yes, it was that good). Bartenders would do well to always check glasses prior to pouring the drink, since this is not the first time.
