Thai Unique
1160 Broadway, Placerville, CA 95667, United States
Edit: Response to owners reply--Ill edit my review as much as I want, thanks. Nothing personal here, sorry youre taking it that way. The only thing that made my day unpleasant and feeling bad was your food. I doubt everything is prepared fresh. I can taste fresh, and the food I was served that day wasnt. For you to imply I work for the competition (theres only one other restaurant in town that serves Thai dishes, afaik) is insult to injury. I dont. No, this was a genuine bad review for genuinely bad food. Maybe you guys were having an off day, Ill give you that. But to imply that Im here to trash your business for any other reason than it was overpriced and underwhelming is a slap. If I was trying to sabotage (I dont need to) Id mention another restaurant name, and I wouldnt advise people to learn how to cook Thai themselves. Duh. Read the original. The details about dishes were accurate. Anyone that thinks curry powder belongs anywhere near Thai food doesnt know how to make it, including your cooks. I said SLIVERS of shrimp, meaning they were small. Yall butterfly the shrimp and it was a small amount compared to the bland stuffing of the spring roll. Anyway. Ill repeat: hope you get better, and your paranoia subsides.I thought about revising bc it did feel harsh at first, but deserved. Now Im def leaving it up.Original review:This aint it chief. Man I had higher hopes for this spot. After two years gave it a go. I figd it would be at least average Thai in a small town. Nope.Ordered takeout for my visiting parents. Dropped $90 with tip on spring rolls, papaya salad, pad gai, yellow curry, and pineapple/sticky rice for dessert. Every single dish was sub-par at best. Ive eaten a LOT of Thai food including in Thailand, and, of course I expect Americanized versions of everything here. CA native. But this was straight up BAD. Like, wholly regrettable. I hate leaving reviews like this because I know the struggle in the restaurant industry, worked in it for years. My only hope is it makes them better. Thai Unique needs to step it up in a major way if they want more business than clueless locals and hit-n-split tourists. The local guide reviewers raving about this spot have no idea what real Thai food is.Spring rolls: baby-arm sized, overstuffed with bland green lettuce and filler. Only slivers of shrimp. Not fresh, no flavor. Both sauces tasted canned and way too sweet. I dont know how you f up peanut sauce, but they found a way.Papaya salad: It was a toss-up btw this and the curry for worst dish. Sickly sweet, soggily sitting in a pool of juice with flavorless tomato slices and waaaay too much garlic. Like it had been made the day before. Could barely tell it was papaya. Yuck.Yellow Curry: The pièce de résistance. Curry powder. Enough said.Pad Gai: wide rice noodles with chicken. The Okayest dish of the meal. Noodles were overcooked and dissolving. Seasoning was passable, still lacking in flavor dept.Pineapple w Sticky Rice: This was subbed for mango, which they were out of. More like sweet rice soup with pineapple chunks, that were miraculously not from a can. If meh was the sixth flavor, this would be it.Dropping close to a hundo on such abysmal food obv left a bad taste in my mouth. Needless to say, wont be returning unless they blow it up and start from scratch. As in, make your food from it. Youre better off buying a cookbook or two, watching YT and learning to cook Thai. Get better Thai Unique.

For months I would stop and read the menu but just couldn't bring myself to try one their “concoctions”. That was my loss. I've stepped out of my comfort zone trying several of their master pieces and have not been disappointed once. This place is like the Disney Epcot of sandwich shops. Ready for an American classic, the biscuits and gravy sandwich might be their simplest sandwich but I'm salivating right now just thinking about it. The gravy is top three I've ever had, if not the best. Ready for a trip south of the border, the enchiladas suizas sandwich might be my favorite so far (minus the sour cream). The addition of the chips might seem like something my kid would do, but don't think this sandwich would be same without them. The salsa verde rivals anything I've had at any Mexican restaurant. Looking for something a little on the sweet side then give the honey walnut prawns a try, and continue down the Asian fusion path with the pot sticker cheese burger. I could go on but just know your trip around the culinary world doesn't stop there. Don't like to travel, no problem, the cheese burger will more than get the job done. Fair warning, they have a lot of fun and work their butts off, but on busy days there can be a bit of a wait so take some time and enjoy all Main Street has to offer. It will be more than worth it.

Amerikan Ichi Sushi
1234 Broadway unit A, Placerville, CA 95667, United States
A couple of months ago, I would have made this a 5-star review, but a recent lunchtime experience ruined it for me. My wife and I would usually save up our appetites and excitement to come visit Amerikan Ichi on a weekend with another couple, on the rare occasions when we could arrange babysitters at the same time. We loved our dinners here. However, recently I had a rare weekday off of work, and decided to have a special lunch with my wife and sushi. We arrived and were seated quickly enough, and we placed our order rather quickly, but thats where it ended. We waited for a solid hour without getting our food. The waitress only came by to check on us one time, after 30 minutes, and told us that our food was coming right up (incorrectly). At least 4 other table were sat, ordered, and served before we got our food. At least one table (seated well after us) actually ordered SECONDS before our food came up. No one came over to update us, apologize for the long wait, or explain anything. We finally gave up and walked out (after over an hour), and as we got to the door, they started trying to bring our food out. At that point, we were so annoyed and upset at the total lack of communication, we just left. If someone had simply come and apologized, explained that our ticket got lost, or SOMETHING, we would probably have been fine.We come from a family FULL of food service people, and really pride ourselves in being the most laid-back customers you could ever have, but the way they treated us (on a rather slow weekday lunch crowd, where we were clearly visible in a small room) left a HORRIBLE taste in our mouths, and I really dont know if well be going back. That makes me sad, because this used to be our special date night with friends restaurant.

Placerville Public House - Family Restaurant & Pub
305 Main St, Placerville, CA 95667, United States
Cute little spot in Placerville, owner operated and nice menu. Not shown in the pictures was an amazing wedge salad that we split. It was so big we could have shared half of one, every bite was delicious. Crisp fresh iceberg lettuce with homemade blue cheese dressing . Bacon crumbles. Its a yummy great starter.Hubby had Fish n chips fried perfectly and fresh, and the Tarter sauce is housemade and quite delicious. The Special was a PB&J burger w/ habanero jelly, peanut butter, fried onions strings, bacon, and cheddar(?)cheese . I had chosen sweet potato fries nom nom. The burger & bacon was a bit on the well side for me but lots of people like it cooked that way, I just prefer a medium on a burger & will ask for it next time I come. Which i hope we will soon the staff is very friendly and more yummy things to try on the menu next time we are in Placerville.
