Crustacean Restaurant Beverly Hills - Brunch, L...
468 N Bedford Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210, United States
Last night I had the pleasure of dining at Crustacean, an Asian Fusion restaurant in the heart of Beverly Hills. The decor inside is beautiful and beneath the walkways are clear cut outs revealing large, majestic koi swimming right under your feet.My meal began with a dainty Caviar Potatoe Tot  and Roasted Bone Marrow topped with Escargot Brunois over Garlic Baguettes. The caviar left more to be desired. Honestly, all I could taste was the potato tot. However, the bone marrow was exquisite, which made up for the miss with the caviar.Entrées included a glorious roasted whole Maine Lobster with Ans Famous Garlic Noodles and the Braised Lamb Shank Special. The lobster and noodle combination was to die for! The lobster claws had been removed from the shell fully intact and the tail meat easily slid out. The cook and seasoning was spot on. And the noodles. . . ohmygoodness, the noodles! They were delicious. The garlic flavor was marvelous and not overpowering at all. I can see why they are part of the Special Kitchen Selections. The lamb shank was extremely tender and flavorful. A little gamey for me, but first-rate nonetheless.I throughly enjoyed my evening and look forward to dining here again. For more food reviews and pictures follow me on Instagram @Aimee.Eats_

Mr Chow
344 N Camden Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210, United States
This restaurant was disgraceful, we had the mr chow course $78 per person, we have four people, 4 appetizers and 4 mains. We went with the most popular and the recommended appetizers; chicken satay, mr chow spareribs, mr chow noodles, and glazed prawn with walnuts. Also the recommended mains; fiery beef, steamed sea bass, squid in xo sauce, and gambler duck.Chicken satay was dry, sauce was awful. Spareribs were dry. Noodles felt like they been sitting out for hours, dry on the outside but the felt like mush on the inside. Prawns were fine. Fiery beef was very sweet. Squid had ok flavor but was mushy. For squid to not have texture it had to be bad. Steamed sea bass sauce was weak. Gambler duck was dry and butcher to death by a dog I wouldn’t even feed my dog with that duck. For almost $400 it was definitely not worth it. Just downstairs the Asian restaurant was much better. This experience was not only the worst experience ever, I felt the experience even after the restaurant, it resulting in me throwing up in my hotel bathroom 20 minutes later. Do not recommend, none of the food had the Beijing flavors. False advertising and disgraceful to even be called Asian food.

Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ
163 N La Cienega Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90211, United States
Ive never felt more ripped off by a restaurant.I like yakiniku, love izakaya grub, and Gyu-Kaku does that fine. Probably overpriced, whatever. However, our grill had major issues. Only one of the 5 charcoals was glowing. Food was taking 5 minutes to cook properly, rather than the 1 minute to 40 seconds. That resulted in our food either being raw or un-seared gray pieces of meat.So I complained, said our grill was broken, I thought we need new charcoal. Instead all that happened was the waitstaff trying to convince me that it was fine. They didnt change anything with the grill. So I just thought that this place was an overpriced gimmick that doesnt work very well.I get up to use the bathroom, and the table next to us clearly has all 5 of their charcoals lit and glowing red hot. And thats when I feel like I was conned. Now I know that it wasnt malicious, it was incompetence. But the fact is that we complained, politely, several times about the issue, only to have the people who supposedly work there day in day out to tell us were wrong, when ultimately it was clear as night and day that our grill was broken. It was absolutely ridiculous, and resulted in our food, which is easily 45 dollars a head pre-booze, being either lifelessly gray or raw.Its fine for a restaurant to make a mistake, I know that these grills can be temperamental. But when the issue was raised, politely, to be brushed aside like we were was disheartening, especially when in the end we were correct. We had a meal where the main cooking apparatus was operating at 20%. Manager made it all good, right? Nope! 15% pre-tax discount. To be fair, she was great at listening to me rant, and said that is all she can do as she is limited by the larger organization. So go her, I hope she finds a better place to work which would actually allow proper customer service. (She escalated to corporate, if they come through for me Ill be sure to update, happily.)What a joke. Dont go here.

Asakuma Sushi-Beverly Hills
141 S Robertson Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90211, United States
If you are looking for an affordable sushi spot then this place might be of interest to you. You can get 3 rolls for $15. Asakuma's specialty rolls are slightly cheaper then most, and the portions will satisfy most for the price. This might sound like an absolute steal, but once you try it, you can tell the quality is lacking.I have given this place 3 chances. All of which were pick up orders so I will be somewhat lenient.Sushi is one of my favorite cuisines. I usually finish my plate and wish I had more. That was not the case for Asakuma. 2 out of my 3 times ordering here I could not finish my plate simply due to quality of fish. That said, there are some items worth trying. Here's what I would and wouldn't recommend:Avoid their basic cut rolls - The spicy tuna roll and California roll, two staple rolls in most US sushi restaurants were let downs here. They over pack the imitation carb, and the tuna is over mixed in sauce.Avocado - Don't be surprised if the avocado on your roll is hard. I ordered the eel and avocado roll and I had to remove the avocado as it almost rock had.Specialty rolls to try - The king lobster roll (minus asparagus) was really good! I highly recommend. The crunch roll and Snow White roll both tasted good and are worth a try if your new to this place.Overall, I was not “wowed” by anything on the menu at Asakuma. That said, the price is definitely enticing if you are looking for a cheap sushi spot. Keep in mind I have not eaten at the physical restaurant, so your experience may be different if you choose to eat there.I wouldn't expect this place to be a mainstay to your sushi restaurant rotation unless you are ok with subpar sushi for a fair price.

Strings Ramen
225 S Beverly Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90212, United States
Finally! The Beverly Hills area has a Ramen shop. It definitely fills a hole in the local cuisine offering.Prices are reasonable, the ramen is above-average, the Gyoza is prepared wonderfully, and the edamame is well-seasoned.The staff is *very* attentive. More on this later.Strings is a brand-new ramen shop and in a few ways, its newness really shows - both good and bad. But the bad is greatly outweighed by the good, so much so that I cant justify removing a star from the rating.Strings provides high quality chopsticks -- you might not care about this but thats something that matters greatly to me.If youre looking for a quick bowl of ramen over your lunch break, this spot is a great option. Actually, its really the only option! As a Ramen connoisseur, I definitely endorse this spot - you wont leave disappointed or feeling like you spent more than the meal was worth.Lets welcome this new shop to the local gastronomic community and show our support by dropping by for a quick lunch or dinner! Theyre currently offering a steep discount on all food and drink, so nows the best time to check it out if you havent already. As for me, Ill be a regular customer from this point on.Now, this next part is for the staff:Two notes.Firstly, waitstaff is clearly enthusiastic and motivated to provide the best possible service. Thats great and appreciated! But there was too much of it. A handful of unprompted service check-ins is expected, 6-8 is excessive. Im confident this slight issue will be smoothed out after a few weeks of operation.Lastly, the starter should arrive prior to the ramen dish, not at the same time -- especially when youre not busy and have the luxury of timing dishes without a rush. Two very minor issues and many great things. Good luck to your business - I hope it stays open for a long time.

Xian Beverly Hills
362 N Canon Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90210, United States
Highly recommend Xian to anyone looking for tasty Asian cuisine! I last visited on a Friday night (no reservations) they got me seated as soon as they could. I ordered their fried eggplant to start off and WOW. I do not generally eat eggplant but the way they prepare it with breading and peppers is amazing. The main dishes I had were the popcorn shrimp, pungent fish aka candy fish (my personal favorite), and I want to say a Mongolian beef type dish. Youll notice that not only is the food delicious but of great quality too. Very light on the stomach and fresh tasting. Good portions for about 2-3 but with multiple dishes there is more than enough to go a round. My service has always been excellent, though I understand in the restaurant business not everyone is always satisfied. Any issue, ask for manager Tao and he will definitely appreciate compliments as he takes great pride in his work. Overall, beautiful restaurant, really good food.

Chubby Curry
225 S Beverly Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90212, United States
I want to start off by saying the wait was long but the hostess( the one who took our names down) was absolutely amazing. She gave us (very good) tea while we waited outside for a table. So while it was a long wait, I'd say it's worth it.I got the Stone Pot Waygu and my boyfriend got the Udon and curry fries. I'm only going to talk about the Stone Pot and fries. The fries were good, a little oily but it wasn't something that coated the mouth. They clearly were very fresh. The stone pot came out VERY hot. However the curry sauce comes in a small cast iron skillet. So this dish was tasty. I highly recommend waiting a few minutes for the rice on the bottom to crisp up and it creates a lot of extra dimension. The reason why this review lost a star was because while good, this dish had some things it needed to tie it together. One is the way the curry sauce comes. The tables in the restaurant are small and the skillet took up space, also spooning it out of that skillet was just pointless and wasteful. Easily fixed by giving a cup or small pitcher to just pour it instead of having to use the spoon. Two, it needed something else. I added a picture and what's missing, at least for me, was green onions and sesame seeds or some furikake. While this seems more Japanese-inspired, I would be able to argue it would add if the toppings weren't so random and green onions became a standard add-on. The dish was heavy and had no depth in terms of something to counter the wagyu, egg, and rice. Third, the patty was salty. This salt worked when everything was mixed together but trying to eat the patty by itself was overwhelming. I would have liked less salt and the option of soy sauce. Salt and soy sauce have different flavor profiles and it needed some umami to tie it together (the tomatoes and broccoli didn't accomplish this for me). Forth, and this might be personal, there needs to be a spice option that's not creamy. Creamy spices sauces take away pretty readily from a dish since it can just add another layer of fat.Lastly, on the topic of food, stock needs to be either told before hand or essentials need to be restocked/ordered better. They didn't tell us they were out of the duck curry until we sat down and they were out of a very popular bottled beer which shocked me for a Saturday night.Lastly, on table turn over, I understand why the wait is more of a wait and this had to do with busy nights like this one…we were left sitting and waiting for a while after we had finished our food. Check was left for us and she didn't come back for about 5 minutes. We also had to ask for them to bring it or we would have just awkwardly sat there, like many other tables did. This is a small complaint because I'm sure staffing has to do with that but to spite that the waiters were attentive and fast when called. We will be back! Definitely a spot I might pick more for lunches!
