Al Watan Halal Tandoori Restaurant
13619 S Inglewood Ave, Hawthorne, CA 90250, United States
May 2022. After reading all the raving reviews drove nearly and hour to try them out. We ordered their highly recommended - beef Nihari, Mix tandoori Platter, Aloo palak, naan, and decided to end on a sweet note with Kheer and Chai.We were there during peak lunch time of 1:15pm on a Sunday. First a plate of garden salad arrived, with wilted lettuce so we chose to say we did not want the salad. Next the large tandoori plate arrived ( smoking and sizzling) yo my surprise only the platter base was sizzling. All the kababs were cold, chewey and dry. Like it may have been really old ( possibly from last night) and microwaved a few times already. They came the Nihari and palak. Nihari was decent (6/10) but heavy on the elaichi.Aloo palak was a hit. Tasty, fresh and delicious.Kheer was basically chunky rice pudding. (2/10)Being of South East Asian decent I do know a thing or two of how these dishes should look, taste and be presented .Now let’s talk Chai!! If it’s not made they can politely say they have none prepared. Instead they charged $2/ cup and brought out a warm ( not piping hot) cup of milk with a hint of beige tint that one gets after a few dips of a tea bag.I am used to Pakwan and Shalimar ( in the NorCal Bay Area) level of taste and freshness and this was by far a definition of disappointment today.Restaurant dining area was overall clean. The restroom had a puddle of water on the floor and around the sink.A good restaurants will have great business and longevity only when they maintain quality, service, and cleanliness comprised in one. It is not an easy task but one has to master it to stay in the game.

Thai Plate Restaurant
10311 Hawthorne Blvd #1509, Inglewood, CA 90304, United States
Restaurant looks incredibly ugly, bad decorations, and a TV that displays ads only. Thai tea and Thai coffee were disgustingly sweet. this is coming from someone with a sweet tooth, it was so sweet you couldnt taste the coffee or tea AT ALL- just pure syrup. the food also wasnt great but not outrageous. the total for a tea, coffee, pad Thai, and a pineapple fried rice came out to 44 dollars. 8 dollars for each drink! we complained about the drinks to the water when she asked how everything was, and her reply was, back there, (motioning to kitchen) we followed the recipe. like okay? its still disgusting. we tried to pay and she revealed it was cash only. in 2024 cash only is a red flag. all we had on us was our phones, and after 15 minutes of arguing, we zelled. overall, horrible horrible experience. please dont go here. we passed a lot of better looking places on our way to this one.

Seafood Port Chinese Restaurant
21180 Hawthorne Blvd, Torrance, CA 90503, United States
I am not the type that would put my negative opinion on google but this was uncalled for and under this circumstance by the owner toward patronage. We gather here with friends every month so I come here very often for the past several years. Today we were disappointed after we were severed our dessert that came with our meal because we couldn't pack our leftover dessert. Two of our family members went outside to change the kid so we want to pack their desserts to go but the stingy owner didn't allow us and took the box away from me before I even tried to pack the dessert. When I went to confront the owner, she responded with a rude attitude that “if you can't finish your dessert then you can't take it home.” This is absurd over a bowl of the desert and that the owner is willing to risk losing loyal patronage. Maybe she wanted to save it and serve it again to another customer. As we walk away, we indicated that we will not be back again and again her respond was rude, unusual and unprofessional. She said this out loudly “don't come back again.” She cared less about patronage repeat customer. From an owners perspective, that was a ridiculous response.

Chubby yaki
12836 S Inglewood Ave, Hawthorne, CA 90250, United States
Chubby Rice is an absolute gem, taking American Chinese food and elevating it to perfection. The entire menu looks and feels familiar, serving up classics like General Tsos chicken and chow mein. What you get is something that feels comforting, creative and ultimately very special. Its a place that I hope survives this quarantine and sticks around forever.Whatever you order, I recommend starting things off with the chubby egg roll. From what I understand it resembles a New York egg roll, although Ive never had one myself. What I can tell you is that this bad boy is enormous, crispy and packed with seasoned ground pork, cabbage and celery. Dip it in any one of their amazing housemade sauces, and youre in carbohydrate heaven. My love for fried calamari is well documented on Yelp, and Chubby Rice absolutely delivers here. This one comes prepared Hong Kong style with salt and pepper, but the result is airy and relatively light compared with other batter-heavy versions. Since this is an entree, you also get two sides. I highly recommend the fried rice, which is genuinely how I wish my fried rice would turn out.I have to be honest about this next one. Im not crazy about the General Tsos chicken here. The whole thing is swimming in sauce thats just way too salty for me. The chicken itself is fine and I like the crispy texture, but thats about it. I will cut them some slack here, because everything else Ive tried is more or less perfect.I have been eating pretty healthy during quarantine, but I am salivating as I finish this review. Its pretty clear that my next cheat meal will be from Chubby Rice. Looking forward to trying more stuff on the menu.

San Sai Japanese Grill - Hawthorne
5354 Rosecrans Ave, Hawthorne, CA 90250, United States
Chicken teriyaki is the only reliable staple at this Sam Sai.I really try to enjoy and give my local San Sai a chance, but margins must be tight at this location: no fountain drinks, only soy sauce packets when dining in (they use to have soy sauce bottles) and stinginess with chopsticks when dining in and pickup orders (4-5 orders of sushi and 2 chopsticks, 2 ramen and 1 sushi and a single pair of chopsticks), recyclable soup containers leak within 5 minutes of having hot liquids on them. This is the only location that Im aware of that has tonkatsu ramen: I would not recommend ordering it due to weak flavored broth and too-soft noodles. The staff is always super helpful (like recommending not to order the ramen for takeout) and seems to work hard, the sushi and ramen quality leave much to be desired.

Flame Broiler
20016 Hawthorne Blvd Ste D, Torrance, CA 90503, United States
This place has the absolute worst customer service Ive ever experienced. The owner/manager/whoever he is leads by example, and is completely devoid of any courtesy or politeness. And if/when they do manage to employ someone else to work at the register, theyre equally unpleasant, so it must be part of the interview process. If you want to skip carrots, be ready to be charged for extra broccoli. Dont want extra broccoli? Just want to... skip carrots? Too bad, fee for extra broccoli. Want some extra sauce? Sorry, hard limit on amount of tiny sauce cups. They charge $13 for some rice and tofu, but apparently cant swing the cost of throwing in an extra 1 oz of fake sriracha. It always stings me to give this place business, and I think Im done. But if you ever want to get food from a spot that makes DMV employees seem charismatic by comparison, all to the obnoxious sounds of Christian rock music playing too loud in the background, this is the Flame Broiler for you!

Panda Express
15207 Hawthorne Blvd, Lawndale, CA 90260, United States
When I visited Panda Express in Hawthorne theres was a disgruntled guest who made it clear they were frustrated that their food was not ready. The kind employees did a fantastic job diffusing the situation. Watching Adriana and the rest of the team provide excellent customer service despite the obnoxious customer was amazing to watch. All while providing quick and speedy service to the rest of the busy restaurant. Personally, one of the items in my order was still being prepared. Adriana made sure to keep me updated on the status of my plate as it was being made. I was completely enamored at the skill and speed the Panda Express team at the Hawthorne location possessed. I even saw an order go out with what looked like 12-16 plates. Incredible. I am a regular and the above and beyond service is highly appreciated. Thanks for all the hard work and permanent smiles.

Sushi Boy
20715 Hawthorne Blvd, Torrance, CA 90503, United States
Good food, its really fast, and you get a lot for your money. I get the three item combo, usually with teriyaki chicken and gyoza, and my third item varies. It comes with a good-sized bowl of miso soup, a big scoop of white or brown rice, and it says it comes with salad but thats just the lettuce that the rest of the food sits on. The salad is pretty disappointing and its weird that they even call it salad, but thats my only complaint about the whole place. The rest of the food is so tasty! Its fast enough that I can dive there (5 min each way), place my order, receive my order to go, drive back to work, and eat during my 30-minute lunch break. The staff are all patient and kind. I once saw one of the ladies explain nearly every item on the menu to a man who had never been there before, and she did not act even slightly inconvenienced or bothered.

Umami Express
16711 Hawthorne Blvd, Lawndale, CA 90260, United States
I thought this was an actual restaurant but it's part of a ghost kitchen or something. I got the chicken bowl and idk if it's just the chicken I got but it tasted old, not fresh. The veggies were also tasting some what frozen. This reminded me of something I could get from yoshinoya or something. Not what I was expecting, kind of dissatisfied and disappointed.
