Boathouse Asian Eatery

Heard great things about this place offering freshly prepared dim sum in-house by a Master Chef. Was very excited to enjoy a meal. Oh, what a crushing disappointment it was!As typical with dim sum, we ordered several dishes to try. Disappointingly only three were up to par, all the rest were substandard. The Master Dim Sum Chef should be very embarrassed with the food quality served.Overall, everything lacked flavor, tasted like it was hospital food for special diets. No salt, no sugar, extremely fine maserated meat, over-steamed and falling a part. Bland, flavorless, everything tasted the same - like nothing.Saving graces were the daikon beef brisket stew (however they were only 2 small pieces of daikon found at the very bottom of the dish), this was the only dish that was decently flavored, and it was delicious. The snow pea shoots were also good, and the most expensive dish at $16, but a large portion. And lastly the red bean and tapioca pearls dessert was good. The har gow, and chaozhou and chive fun gor were over steamed making the skins too soft so the fillings fell out. The shumai, and tofu beancurd wrap were tasteless, did they forget the spices? We had high expectations for the BBQ pork, hard to mess that up, right? OMG, they used fattier than typical cut of pork, you would think it would add a richer taste, but no, it gave an oily mouth feel to a tasteless piece of meat. Char siu is supposed to have a rich and sweet taste; they went for a low sugar profile without they Asian spices to lend it its distinct flavor. The taro cakes were undercooked and powdery. The egg tarts were barely baked with doughy shell and under sweetened custard. The sweet dough dumplings barely had any filling and was dripping with oil from frying with not hot enough frying oil. The meat in the beef rice rolls was so finely maserated it reassured us that its safe for people who forgot their dentures; the traditional soy and sweet sauce that should have slathered the rolls was watered down soy with a forgotten hint of sweetness. The soup dumplings actually held its broth, too bad the broth and filling were equally tasteless.Service attempted to be good, but it was obvious that the staff did not understand the foods they were serving and how to best server it. They just plopped dishes on the table without ensuring appropriate eating utensils were provided. Both the stew and dessert soups needed bowls and spoons to serve and eat with, but none were provided and we had to ask for bowls and spoons. At a dim sum house, empty serving dishes are removed immediately as they can accumulate with all the small plates. Here the wait staff ignored the empty serving dishes and let the stack of dishes pile up and crowd the table until it became obvious they needed to be removed. Staff was pleasant but needs more training for this type of meal.Despite claiming to have an in-house Master Dim Sum Chef (who I hope wasnt working when I visited to explain the disappointing food quality), the dim sum place in Santa Rosa outshines this place in quality and service. Even with the rumored food being brought in from San Francisco China Town, the dim sum is so much better in taste, quality, quantity, and price.Sorry to say, this place missed the mark by a lot!

Best hole in the wall spot for AMAZING CHINESE FOOD!My boyfriend and his family had been coming here since he was a child. Its ran by the same family as long as he can remember. Parents cooking in the kitchen, adult kids handling the front. He has seen the grandchildren his age work, gone off to college and return to help out the family restaurant. The family who runs the restaurant are always friendly and kind.Seating is limited inside the restaurant, and this place is made more for take out.Food is cooked and set out like Panda Express style, where you can pick and choose what you want. They have many more additional items you can order off the menu as well. There are several different combo plates to choose from, order food a la carte cart and catering options too.The food is affordable, the quality is great and the quantity! They pile the plates up!!! On busy days/rush hour, the line can get out the door.We love coming here and will continue to come here for years to come.

Edit: so sad. Started off great now its unrecognizable, like a different restaurant. Maybe it was a different chef on a different day? But last time my family went out was Bland with small portions and raised prices. When I first went it seemed so authentic. Its been steadily getting not as good every time weve gone. Very very sad. Started off as amazing Indian food. Now seems like they are catering to old Americans. Very sad.Very very good Indian restaurant- the best IV had in Sonoma county. Seems that all the initial low reviews can just be chalked up to the growing pains of a newly opened business - and it seems like they have it figured out now because our experience was fantastic. And usually I dont really care too much about the service of a place but Turmerics was top notch! They had a wide Variety of items on the menu - many of which I havent seen too often on other menus. We got the garlic naan ( very good) and onion kulcha ( fluffy, flavorful and delicious) to go with our obligatory chicken tiki masala which was super tasty and rich. We also got Baingan Bharta and Paneer Makhani - two dishes you dont see too often on menus. They were both excellent vegetarian dishes. Cant wait to come back and try other new dishes! Also :-every curry dish comes with rice - which is fantastic considering other restaurants will charge you an additional 4 dollars for rice!- the chai was great and they give refills-Dont be afraid to ask for spicy when they ask about the heat level. It just simply means that the dishes will be more flavorful, not necessarily spicier like you might be expecting. The only minor criticism I would have is that the dishes had a very slightly sweet after taste. It didnt bother us much cuz the overall quality and flavor of the dishes were on point, but it might bother some. Maybe the tomato paste they use has added sugar? Either way were extremely happy to have this restaurant in Sonoma county. It feels and tastes very authentic like a home cooked meal! This will be our go-to Indian spot from now on. Thank you guys so much for opening up!

This is yet another beautiful eatery with immense potential that is horribly let down by abusive upper management. As someone who is friends with people who have been employed here, Ive learned many upsetting things about the owner, Cat. My friends are wonderful servers with integrity who were excited about working in such a cool place but unfortunately had nothing but bad things to say about their experiences.Cat is easily aggravated and openly belittles staff during service, regularly (and loudly) telling them that they are incompetent and unknowledgeable about the menu when they are following guidelines and recipes that she has set. She likes to do this without offering advice/critique, then eats and mopes on her computer in full view of customers at the bar. She is also extremely strict about food. She does not like to allow customers to modify food and advises her wait staff against accommodating guests. She will even argue with customers over the food, which the wait staff has to apologize for… so if you have allergies or a disdain for a common ingredient, that alone should tell you to steer clear.Fortunately, the recent general manager Rob is more kind and treats customers much better. They would lose a lot more business if he wasnt there to balance Cats awful attitude and practices.I will say that the food a friend brought back to me was pretty good, although apparently the wait was long. If I were in the dark about the operations behind closed doors, I might patronize this business again - but I cannot in good conscience support a business that doesnt treat their staff like equals (or even human beings).

I love this place. I dont eat sushi but i do eat Korean BBQ and ghid place does a great job for not being a Korean only restaurant. The service is great and alwaya friendly. I dont really like how loud the music was but thats because i have a hard time hearing and it makes it difficult for me to hear other people at the table. Beaides that this place is great! The korean short ribs are killer almost as good as Simply Vietnam in Santa Rosa, i really enjoy the spicy pork as well. My finace tends to order the Bimbop Rock which is like a hot rice bowl with beef, fried egg, rice and veggies, really good, only criticism would be maybe add like a side of housin(spelling) sauce or cuz sometimes its a little dry and soy sauce doesnt do the trick. The kimchi is to die for! It usually comes with a something special from the chief, the other day it was pickled jalepones and just yesterday it radishs in a spicy chilli paste, absolutely amazing i ate two orders! If your like me and love Asian food but dont like fish this a good place to go to, lots of options. Give it a try and enjoy!

The Cove- Asian Bistro

The little Asian bistro in the Raleys shopping center in Rohnert park is quite a find. It has been open for about six months, but I had not realized it was there because of the open sign above the door is small and every time I had went by previously I thought it was closed. But yesterday I noticed the doors were open and I saw people inside because of the low lighting looking from the outside. You think all the lights are out. On the frontage window they need a big open sign and also when you go into a shopping center. When you first open they will let you have a grand opening sign to attract attention . It’s quite clean inside and also the help is very nice but I think it would be helpful if instead of ordering the food up front at the counter it wouldn’t seem so fast food like. And also, it would be nice if they would bring the food to your table because of the beautifully laid out restaurant style I think would help business very much. I ordered the Pho which was very good, but not to the normal, but I am used to at most places. The flavor was great but instead of lime, they give you lemon, and the meat was thicker than others to where it was a little tough, but still tasty. To improve anything if I thought would help they should buy a slicer and slice the beef to where most people that eat Pho are used to eating eye of round sliced very thin. The bowls of.Pho are a great proportion and it gives you a lot of broth to where there is plenty left to drink if you like the beef flavor. But those of you who can’t eat the whole bowl will probably take it home because it’s so delicious. The only problem I have with taking it home was that the containers were made of paper and if you are a working person and it Hass to sit in your car for five hours it would change the taste of the broth. Every other. Pho restaurant that I have been to has always given you a plastic container with lid for two reasons, one it won’t change the taste of the broth, too if the container happens to tip over the lid, won’t come off. Overall a great little gem to find. The owners really need to let people know they are there. Why are you spend all the money to open for just a few.

If looking to taste authentic Japanese food dont eat here. Owner is Chinese and cook (dont know what national) doesnt know how to prepare Japanese food and they claim they are Japanese restaurant ???Matter of fact most of the Japanese restaurants in Northern California in past 10-years are owned and operated by Chinese and/or other Asians other than Japanese therefore food and services are very poor.Majority of customers goes to Kyoto eatery doesnt know what Japanese food are like.Take my review seriously, because Im Japanese so I know.
