Chin Chin West Hollywood
8618 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
Chinese restaurant in sunset Plaza so the atmosphere is nice inside and outside. The service was a little slow even though it wasnt busy for lunch and the food was just ok. I wasnt too impressed with the peanut noodles with shrimp that I had. The spring roles were fine and the fried rice was also just ok.

Rainbow Bar & Grill
9015 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
The Rainbow Rocks, literally and truly. If you are an old school type like me, you will no doubt agree... The Rainbow Bar and Grill (and their other icon The Whisky a Go Go) is one of the handful of places that are still holding on to and carrying forward the long tradition of rock and roll culture on the Sunset Strip. Speaking as someone who was here in the 1980s, I can tell you that hardly anything has changed about the vibe or the buildings themselves - and man that is wonderful! When you step into the Rainbow (which I do as often as possible) you are stepping back to a warm and cozy place frozen in time. You feel the presence of all the legends who have shared this space, which also includes such Old Hollywood icons as Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe, back when it was called the Villa Nova. In 1972 it became The Rainbow and the rest is rock and roll history. And we can all thank the late great owner, Mario Maglieri, for making it all happen. I could go on forever about how my wife and I love to enjoy an afternoon whisky sour, either inside or outside, or the fact we can even bring our kids here for pizza and pasta. The food is f-ing awesome. I have to end this review on a sad note, and pay respects to one of the greatest legends of all time, Eddie Van Halen. Van Halen got their start right here on the Strip and now we must add King Edward to that growing list of people we have lost. Thanks to the Rainbow and all its denizens who still come here, rock and roll will NEVER die. Rock in Peace Eddie!
Otus Thai Kitchen & Coffee
1253 N La Brea Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90038, United States
Came to Otus on a friends recommendation and really enjoyed it! We had a huge party (11) and Otus was able to accommodate us without any issues though we may have been a little overwhelming to start the morning...I began with a pink latte which is a latte made with Thai sala syrup. The flavor profile is similar to strawberry milk but a little more floral. A couple friends went with bottomless mimosas but remarked that it wasnt too special. For appetizers we shared the roti and Ms Dangs crispy fried rice. Both were honestly delicious! The roti was prepared like a banana fosters french toast with roti substituting the toast. It was crispy, buttery, and similar to fried bananas! As for the crispy rice, it was done very well! Ive had versions that were way too dry and crispy or too tangy from vinegar and fermented pork but this hit all the right notes and the crunchy bites from the leaves of romaine paired perfectly! For my main, I went with the Moo Ping and OMG the pork skewers were TO DIE FOR! They were marinated and grilled to perfection! The accompanying vinegar dip was a little bit too acidic for me though. I really liked the accompaniments of papaya salad and sticky rice. Both paired perfectly with the super savory pork! I also liked using the remaining dressing off the papaya salad to dip and accompany the rice as it wasnt nearly as strong as the vinegar.I tried bites from my friends dishes and some really hit! The happy chicken was a must order but the happy ribs is a miss. The chicken was so crispy yet so juicy but the ribs were clearly over fried and so dry. The kai kata is unique! Getting a bite with the baguette, ground pork, Chinese sausage and creamy egg is really something to experience at least once!Among the rest of my friends (aka the other side of the table), reviews were mixed. Both friends that ordered the shitake chicken rice bowl mentioned that it was a little bland but the one that ordered khao kai jiew gave it a thumbs up. There were also two thumbs up for the the its a joke jook. By far the worst menu blunder though was the tofu street noodles. My friend said that there was zero flavor. He tried to fix it with a lot of sambal and then soy sauce but it wasnt until we ordered some peanut sauce ($3) that he finally enjoyed his meal. Our entire meal with gratuity came to about $370. Id say its safe to plan that your meal will average about $25 with drinks.
Merois West Hollywood
8430 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
It was a special night at Wolfgang Pucks Merois restaurant situated on the rooftop of the Pendry hotel in the heart of Wehos Sunset Strip. The various penthouse views afforded a panoramic sight of all of Los Angeles South as well as seeing houses clinging on the hillsides of the Santa Monica Mountains.Marqués de Murrieta Estates & Wines presented a Rioja Wine Dinner with associated multicourse Spanish influenced cuisine. International Director Arthur Lencquesais was there to edify us into the characteristics & history of his premier wines.Naureen Lyon, L.A. District Manager of Maisons Marques et Domaine presented her Ramos Pinto White Port that pairs well with many desserts.1) Petits Fours:a. Lamb Polpette/meatballs covered Membrillo/quince glaze & sweetened Sauce Demi-Glace garnished with Granada/pomegranate, mint leaves.b. Lox, Caviar, egg yolk on toasted Briochec. Lobster Éclair dressed with Estragon/tarragon Aïoli.d. Fromage Blanc, Truffled Honey, Sea Salt, Walnuts, Ruccola/Arrugula microgreen on toasted Brioche. All paired with Pazo Barrantes Albariño 2021. Lamb could have paired better with a Rioja red.2) Tuna Tataki: Not really a Japanese Tataki since the tuna was not surface seared. It was more like in a marinade. Tuna was resting in 28 month oak barrel aged soy sauce which then should be called Zukè. Arbequina olive oil added a slick of sweet-bitter butteriness.Perhaps adding a touch of sea salt would have added minerality to enliven the flat tasting tuna. Paired with Marqués de Murrieta Rioja Reserva 2018.3)) Crowning glory by Executive Chef Matt Dahlkemper:Cochinillo Ibérico de Bellota is a special breed of northern Spain. During fall when acorns fall from tall oaks, the pigs are allowed free range to pig out on the nuts to create a luscious, fatty, meatiness. In this case, the little piggy was born too early or too late to ingest the acorns, but his parents may have hogged out on the acorns.Perhaps a Thai sweet chile sauce would have enhanced the sweet, fatty pork, but this was Spanish themed. However, the vinegar fermented Giardiniera added a good, clean contrasting gastrique to cut the fattiness.A whole suckling pig was slow baked so the skin is crisp. Layer of smooth melt in your mouth, porky fat. Then a sweet, porcine meatiness. Some parts had a slight gamy, barnyard funk that went well with Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2011.a. Roasted Asparagus, whipped Spanish Manchego Cremab. Gem Salad Greens, Spanish Marcona Almonds, Jerez Vinaigrette4) Basque style Cheese Cake Verrine/served in a tall glass cup by Executive Patissier Sylvain Piffeteau. Vanilla scented pudding with strawberry & basil confit. Paired with Ramos Pinto White Port that is reminiscent of Haut-Sauternes.Our sommelier, Allan Camarena, that night was amiable, informative, congenial. Staff was on point. Sitting above the Sunset Strip and seeing the city of L.A. at our feet in the pleasing coolness of a June night made four hours seem too soon to be over.5 stars just for this special Spanish wine dinner occasion.
Night Market Weho
9043 Sunset Blvd West, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
Night+Market WeHo took me on a memorable journey of Thai cuisine, with flavors that left me in awe. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience, although there were a few aspects that didn't quite meet my personal preferences. The food at Night+Market WeHo was undeniably some of the best Thai cuisine I've ever had. From the moment I tasted the wings, pad Thai, short rib curry, and mango sticky rice, I was transported to a realm of delectable flavors. Each dish was bursting with authentic Thai spices and well-balanced ingredients, showcasing the culinary expertise of the chefs. While the majority of the dishes were exceptional, I personally found the chicken in the pad Thai to be less satisfying. Taste preferences can vary, and it didn't quite meet my expectations. However, it's important to note that this is a subjective observation, and other diners might enjoy it.The atmosphere at Night+Market WeHo had a vibrant and energetic feel, reminiscent of a night club. While some may appreciate this lively ambiance, I found it a bit overwhelming for a dining experience. It's worth considering whether you prefer a more relaxed and intimate atmosphere or enjoy the energetic vibe of a bustling establishment. The waitstaff at Night+Market WeHo provided excellent service, showcasing attentiveness and professionalism throughout my visit. They were knowledgeable about the menu, accommodating to special requests, and ensured that our dining experience was enjoyable. In conclusion, Night+Market WeHo offers an unforgettable culinary adventure through Thai cuisine. With outstanding flavors and a menu that will leave your taste buds dancing, it's a must-visit for Thai food enthusiasts. While the chicken in the pad Thai didn't quite meet my personal taste, the overall quality of the dishes and the exceptional service from the waitstaff made the experience truly memorable.
Rosaline
8479 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
Mid. But a little Less than Mid.Decided to check this place out since the mood for the night was Peruvian, and this popped up. Looked like a pretty popular spot and apparently its been around for like 5 years.Made a Rez, showed up and was seated right away. Good start. Then sat around for 15-20 minutes while people just walked around us. Mind you no menu or QRs offered. Im self sufficient and just went to the website. Never a stickler for service but like cmon guys lol.Grabbed the Whole branzino, Lomo Saltado, and the conchitas a la parmesana, so lets get to it:Whole Branzino : Decently sized branzino and pretty fluffy. A bit boney but thats to be expected when getting whole branzino. Some charred veggies and aji sauce. Honestly best thing here that brought the dish to life was the aji sauce, but it was so sparce that halfway thru the fish it was just branzino with some bean puree. A bit bland without the aji. The Charred veggies were charred so much they were inedible lol. This could have been better.Conchitas a la parmesana (scallops w blood orange): This was pretty good, but the scallops were tiny.Lomo Saltado: The usual protein star of Peruvian spots, so you gotta get it right? While presented well with the cast iron I think it was a detriment to the dish. All the steak was overcooked and dry by the time we got to it. The sauce itself was a bit bland. Was hoping some aji sauce would show up to pour over, but alas it did not. Huge miss here. Overcooked steak and bland overall. The flavor here mostly came from the roasted tomatos.I did get a drink called smoke and sugar and that was probably the best thing of the night. Not overly sweet and still a little bit smoky from the mezcal. This is the only thing i could recommend at the moment.Pretty disappointing experience food wise. It was a chill night with maybe 4 other tables, so I dont see how the kitchen could have felt rushed to push these out in the state they showed up.Id come back to try the paella, but I mean will I really? Not sure.Worth a try, but maybe it was an off day.

Formosa Cafe
7156 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046, United States
I recently talked to restauranteur Adam Fleischman about the Formosa Cafe. He said they are revamping the menu.Inspired by Beverly Hill's Red Medicine's Vietnamese-themed menu and bar bites, Red Med at Formosa Café features some of the most popular dishes, including dumplings, spring rolls, bahn-mi, brisket and whole fish to share. My eyes had to adjust quickly as I walked into the dark restaurant to meet a group of foodies. We frequently used our iPhone flashlights to read the menu and snap photos. The walls are still lined with over 250 black and white headshots of some of the most famous actors in the world. There is still a display case showcasing a collection of Elvis Presley decanters and statues above his old booth. One of the head bartenders, Billy Ray arrived at our table with some of the classic cocktails that have been added to the cocktail menu. Bartender Matthew Boddie created a ginger daiquiri a la Central, pisco apricot Tropicale and the Singapore Sling for us to enjoy. We were told that gangster Mickey Cohen ruled the underground of liquor, women and cash at Formosa Café. His safe was built into the flooring between the two front booths to the left of the front door.Interesting dishes include the entirely green Rock shrimp dish with layers of avocado. The marinated eggplant offers vivid flavors of garlic, sesame, and celery that almost vibrated in my palate.I enjoyed the ethereal Shanghai rice cakes that tasted like little chewy dough pillows dusted with bacon, shishito and Thai basil. The chicken wings are a Red Medicine recipe rolled in flavorful crumbs, fish sauce lime and Thai chile, that spices the wings with aromatic flavors. The crispy spring rolls are deep fried and stuffed with a healthy dose of crab and Asian herbs.Everyone at the table enjoyed the oyster mushrooms with crisp haricot vert beans, and a French chili pepper from Espelette mixed in with the oyster sauce.Large parities may want to go straight to The Group Effort column on the menu for plates of tender Wagyu Beef Brisker braised in a secret plum sauce for 36 hours or a deep fried whole black bass that arrives whole. The server filets it to reveal light colored and moist fish with a crispy crust. These dishes easily feed three to four guests. The Formosa Café is open for dinner at 4 p.m. until the 2 a.m. “last call.” Parking is available in the West Hollywood Gateway parking garage.
