Soul of China

This is a golden nugget in La Quinta! First of all great service. Food is great, with lots of flavor and perfectly seasoned. Try the plate with assorted appetizers, so good. The spare ribs are perfect. Today we tried chicken sweet and sour, and pork sweet and sour. Very good. The batter they fry the chicken in have a great flavor and are very crispy.Restaurant could get some love, but you go here for the food. We are coming back and I can definitely recommend this Chinese restaurant.
China Jos

If I could give it zero stars, I would. I have eaten in many Chinese restaurants across the country, since I love good Chinese food, and this is the worst one I have ever been in. First of all, we were completely ignored when we walked in. After standing there for a while, I went over to the counter and asked the woman if we could sit anywhere, and she begrudgingly said yes. No other information or welcoming words. We then sat for another 10-15 minutes, waiting for a server. I then got up again and walked over to the unwelcoming, mis emotional and angry woman behind the counter and asked if we needed to order at the counter, and she begrudgingly said yes again. Well, thanks for letting us know! I placed our order of General Tsos chicken and Kung Pao chicken (which was not easy since she barely spoke any English, and couldnt understand that we wanted green peppers with the General Tsos chicken). Well, after another good 20 minutes or so, she yelled 21 and I went to get the food at the counter, which of course was incorrect and not what I had ordered. She had green pepper beef in with the General Tsos chicken. She had not understood what was said, obviously. I took it anyway since we just wanted to get out of there at that point. The General Tsos Chicken and the Green Pepper beef were barely okay. Pretty bland but at least edible. But the Kung Pao chicken was horrible. I could barely recognize any of the meat being chicken and I basically left most of it. It was pieces of meat from something, but I couldnt tell what. It was not edible. I just ate the rice and most of the vegetables. Anyway, needless to say, were never coming back to this place, and I would recommend you do the same.
Panda Express

I want to commend the incredible night shift team for their outstanding service. Despite it being close to closing time, they greeted us with a positive attitude. After being disappointed by two other Panda locations that were out of white rice, we decided to try our luck at this location. To our surprise, they assured us that they still had white rice available. Even though they were busy preparing orange chicken, they didnt discourage us from ordering it. With utmost professionalism and a friendly demeanor, they convinced us to stay and prepared fresh orange chicken for us without any signs of inconvenience. They swiftly prepared our order, making our two kids extremely happy. I am truly grateful to your exceptional team for going above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction. Special thanks to Dulce,Thank you!
Canton Bistro

We had take-out from Canto Bistro at a friends house. The food was really good so as a group of six we decided to go to the restaurant and dine in. I checked their website to see if the took reservations. Did not see anything about it. It was a Saturday so we went and got there at 4:50 pm. We were greeted with “how many”, instead of “good evening” or “hello”. I told her six, please. “Do you have a reservation?” She looked all around the restaurant like there was a problem. There were two tables seated! I told her that we hurried to get there for happy hour as I saw on the website it was from 3:00-5:00. She said they were no long serving happy hour. I looked at my watch and it was 4:50. She said it ended at 4:50. I was trying to joke and be friendly, but she was not having it. She checked with a tall man that had approached the desk. He said it was okay, but we had to order now! We hadn't even been seated yet! Once we were seated, no server came. We waved the hostess over and told her we'd like to order our happy hour drinks. She said she's not out server. Our server finally came by and we're able to order our drinks, which came pretty quickly. It took her a long time to take our food orders and then a long time for the food to come out, one, by one. The food was really good and hot. Some of the dishes seemed a little small compared to others. Not sure why. And they do not have brown rice. And the only Fried Rice was an entree. The tables were out together and wobbly…sticky. So that was not impressive. Overall, very good food, but the service is slow and not friendly. And they could pay more attention to the cleanliness and comfort of their dining room.UPDATE: We visited again on August 12, 2023. This time we made a reservation for the large round table in the back. It has a lazy Susan which is very convenient for sharing. The hostess was much more friendly this time and service was prompt. The food was delicious.

Wow, what a find!Last night was our first time at this Chinese restaurant in La Quinta and we were pleasantly surprised. Walking in, we noticed the place was well lite and very clean. The staff was attentive and helpful to all our requests. The food was absolutely amazing. We began by sharing a large bowl of War Won Ton soup that provided our first taste of what was to come... the pork was extremely tender, the shrimp was so fresh and cooked correctly that it popped when you bit into it, instead of being overcooked and chewy like most places. The vegetables were perfectly firm and the soups base had really great flavor. When our main course of pork chop suey came, we appreciated that it wasnt drenched in overpowering sauce consisting of too much salt, which is common at other Chinese restaurants. You could actually taste each individual vegetable and the pork was super-tender and flavorful. Everything was very fresh, flavorful and cooked to perfection. Well definitely be adding this restaurant to our regular list of lunch and dinner places to dine at.

This is a restaurant with a very beautiful outdoor patio that is created next to a rock formation. We had reservations for the patio but because there were 2 reservations at the same time with the same name, they mixed ours up and originally told us there was no patio requested and sat us inside. However, they realized their error afterwards and were very apologetic and moved us to our correct table outside!Once outside the ambience was beautiful. The rocks with the outdoor fireplace and patio lights made it very romantic. I just wish they had made the patio space bigger! It would have been cool if the patio wrapped along the sides of the rock in a circle. We both had the corn soup to start. I was surprised with how tasty and delicious it was. It wasnt like a Chinese soup with corn kernels but more of a corn puree. I wish it was a bigger portion tho because it was on the smaller side.We also had the short ribs. The short ribs were good but not my favorite. I didnt like the paired brussel sprouts and would have liked a sweeter veggie like carrots to go with the short rib sauce. The short rib meat had a decent amount of fat which I liked. We had some drinks with dinner (my bonanza red wine was good) and instead of dessert had some boozy coffees.Aside from the reservation mix up, the service was very attentive and quick!
Basil Thai
50855 Washington St, La Quinta, CA 92253, United States
Finally, an authentic Thai restaurant in La Quinta! We saw news about this opening up recently and we live nearby - finally got to eat here on the weekend. But Im not here to talk about competitors. Im here to talk about a fabulous new restaurant in LQ - in the cove/old town area. Basil Thai! It sits between a Chinese and Mexican restaurant in a small space. I think it has a total of 4 or 5 booths and 4 bar stools to sit in. Framed photograph/posters are mounted along the walls depicting scenes from Thailand. Ive never been, but my partner had and loved the atmosphere. Fixtures are new.Business was super slow and the place had one server and at least one person cooking, so we were surprised at how fast the food came out after ordering. We order the basic Pad Thai and Panang Curry with chicken. We also had a cup of Tom Ka Kai. Later the server brought out some sauces (one home made) to add, after my partner asked for it. The home made one was HOT but very yummy. Actually, ALL the dishes were delicious and my partners quest for the taste of Thailand as she had it in Chang Mai years ago, was fulfilled. Both of us were really happy we ate here.We ordered from the lunch menu which is cheaper than the regular menu. (Lunch average cost was $13.99 a dish) Portion size is about what we expected. Not too big, but not too small either. We still ended up being stuffed. Rice will do that to you.I love the location and hope they become busy enough to stay there. We plan to visit at least once a month as a treat to ourselves and slowly eat our way through the entire menu.
You Grill Korean BBQ

Came here for dinner. Around 4p, not even busy. We walked in and they said we could sit anywhere and walked away from us. So we walked over to a table and sat ourselves. I went over to them and asked if the table we chose was OK and they said yes. Shortly after, we received our sides and we waited. No one came but they kept looking over at our table. A few mins later couple walks in & they get walked to their table and seated near us, we continue to wait and a few mins later ANOTHER couple walks in and they are also walked to their table and seated near us. The couple after us gets their order taken, and the other servers continue to look over at our table. The second couple then get their order taken. At that point we decide to leave. I go up to the hostess and tell her that 2 tables that got seated after us are getting their order taken and we havent even been helped. She doesnt even let me finish before she starts cutting me off and talking over me and repeatedly telling me I dont think the server is aware I realize shes not going to let me talk so I tell her were leaving. Ive never had a bad experience here before and this totally sounds made up. Like we were being ignored purposly but this experience is real! Im surprised because we really like this place and again, we have never had a bad experience here. I hope to go back but not anytime soon. There always busy so they wont miss us, I know. But its just sucks to be treated like that.

American Chinese take out at fancy restaurant price. Should have walked out when the overwhelming odor of disinfectant hit me! My dish was $16, and 90% noodles! Nothing Korean about it!
