Peony Chinese Kitchen
213 Broadway St, Laguna Beach, CA 92651, United States
Can’t tell you how happy I am to finally have some good Chinese food in Laguna Beach. The other day I ordered the wonton soup and some vegetable egg rolls and it was all delicious. The wonton soup was really flavorful and not just your average wontons in broth with like one spinach leaf. Instead the wontons were well seasoned, swimming in a delicious broth with cabbage and broccoli. It was more than enough for two people. Veggie egg rolls were super crispy, full of fresh crunchy vegetables. Can’t wait to try dinner! And the staff is so friendly and welcoming. I hope Laguna will support this hard working new establishment. We have long needed a fresh tasty Chinese restaurant in our midst. Yum!

Red Dragon Restaurant

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Red Dragon, a new Chinese food restaurant located in Laguna Beach during their soft opening, and I can confidently say that it was a five-star experience. From the delicious food to the exceptional service, this restaurant truly exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with beautiful decor that added to the overall dining experience. The staff were friendly, attentive, and helped guide our dining experience. The set menu featured multiple courses, and each and every item was absolutely delicious. From the soup and appetizers to the main course and dessert, every dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented.I was particularly impressed with the care that went into each dish. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the portion sizes were just right. I loved that the set menu allowed us to try a wide variety of dishes, including some that we may not have ordered on our own, and we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed everything.Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with my dining experience at Red Dragon during their soft opening. The delicious food, exceptional service, and inviting atmosphere made for a truly memorable dining experience. I cannot wait to return and try more of their menu offerings. If you are in Laguna Beach and looking for an exceptional Chinese food restaurant, I highly recommend giving Red Dragon a try.

Great service! Food was very good. The only plate that wasn’t very good was the bone marrow. It fell flat and was something we would skip.Avocado and crab salad was very tasty. Really like the crunchy fried avocado. The dressing worked really well with the dish, brought it all together.Pork belly was fantastic. Very crispy skin and perfect juicy meat with a good combination of fat to meat. It was very close to being perfectly cooked. This was probably my 2nd favorite crispy pork belly I’ve ever had (big thing for me, because I’ve enjoyed pork belly at hundreds of restaurants throughout Asia), right after my favorite pork belly in Bangkok, which is perfect every time. The only downside of this plate, not enough of it.Brussel sprouts were the best I’ve ever had in a restaurant. They were perfectly cooked and flavor had good balance without being overly salty. Liked the fact that the Chinese sausage was in it. These are almost as good as mine in my restaurant. One thing they did that gave it some really nice freshness is with adding cilantro, an idea Im going to steal. Really good side dish. For dessert, we had the Oh Beehive. Perfect ending to a very good meal. Very light and bright. Really liked the tame lemon flavor. Highly recommend.Didn’t have any drinks, usually don’t if it’s the first time at a place.Overall a very good meal. The only complaints were the bone marrow and possibly the service got a little slow at the end, which isn’t a big issue, just really liked the pace the rest of the meal went.Lamb shank was perfectly cooked and flavor was awesome.

Starfish Laguna Beach
30832 Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, CA 92651, United States
My fiancee and I went spontaneously to the beach for a hike and dinner. We were going to get mexican food but that restaurant was closing. Starfish was in the same parking lot so we went in there expecting the generic chinese food experience but it was a pleasant surprise, really well decorated! Romantic. Our server Trish was really nice and when we said it was our first time there she told us about some popular dishes we might like to try. We ordered the silk road dumplings, chilean sea bass and drunken noodles with shrimp. It was all amazing!! So so so good ??? for dessert we got the flourless chocolate cake and the cheesecake for our roommate back home. Everything was delicious. Im still thinking about that coconut curry and the sea bass. Trish was very nice and even though I was just wearing workout clothes, no makeup, hair crazy from the beach air she made eye contact which is more than I can say for other servers weve had other places. Prices were high but, its at the beach so it makes sense and Everything seemed fresh and interesting flavors. Ill be back, thank you!

Dizzs As Is

Overall, the experience was medicore at best. All the bread up to the warmed sour dough was stale. Some of the menu items didnt make sense (bbq chicken wings at a french restaurant?) and it was really disappointing for such a pricey restaurant to give the menu in 5 parts split amongst the entire party. There seemed to be very few people in the restaurant and service was so slow. I asked for water and I watched the waiter talk to a guy for almost 10 minutes. I sent my partner to get me water from the bar. We stared the waiters down for minutes before they took our orders. In their defense, some of their food was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my raspberry duck, the scallops were buttery and perfectly cooked, and my party members were impressived with the size of the steaks. Definitely American portions of French food. They were also very accomodating in changes to the dishes. The atmosphere was overall nice. The murals were done by a famous painter who died in the early 60s which gives some perspective on the decore. It is definitely quirky, vintage. My qualms were the odd pink lighting that felt minimizing against the hot pink walls, the random flatscreen playing sports outside, and the stink of mildew (reasonable for an old house on the coast).I would not go here again. It was $50 a person for a mediocre experience that could have been much better spent at a better put together restaurant.

Rubys Diner
30622 S Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, CA 92651, United States
It is a hot day 93+ degrees! Pokémon GO has the Fest Makeup Day from 11am to 2pm, so we decide to visit Rubys Diner before heading over to downtown Disney to catch Pokémon.1st thing I noticed was a wonderful patio area, and the cool music playing in the background. The patio seating is spacious and the area is covered. I found the space relaxing. This location has a carhop area, most of it is shaded; with luck a person can park in the shade and eat in their vehicles and enjoy a meal. (coincidently, I had an opportunity to chat with the owner) I had the opportunity to convey to him my perspective about the carhop area) he was very positive and thankful on my feedback. As I do think that if all those carhop area spots had full shade it would be better, especially on these super hot days!As noted from my 1st impression, the noteworthy aspect of this particular restaurant are the beautiful patios. People are in need of fresh air, everyone is stuck at home breathing AC, and granted it is hot outside, it was truly wonderful to enjoy lunch in a relaxing environment. *PLEASE NOTE: the restaurant is beautiful inside, but because of covid-19 no one is eating inside the restaurant, therefore, my comments are BASED on the patio accommodations this restaurant has made to comply with covid-19)NOW when it comes to food, I am very very very VERY particular about how my hamburger should be cooked. Most times, when it comes to eating a burger at a restaurant, Im always somewhat disappointed. As I always want the meat well done, and if the meat is overcooked then it becomes hard and dry. When the server brought my plate, I was happy to see that the meat looked well cooked, and when I took the 1st bite, I knew it was cooked to perfection: juicy, cooked perfectly, and tasty!! Shakes are always AMAZING at Rubys so I wont go into details on that.Instead, I do want to make an observation regarding face mask. As we all know, restaurants require for their staff to wear a mask. At the same time, masks eliminate that human connection we get when we are greeted with a smile. I was delighted to see that each employee had a personalized mask. Allowing the servers to connect with their customers by displaying a portion of their personalities. CONNECTIVITY is key during these confusing times, having something to relate to is in my humble opinion crucial to maintaining a sense of familiarity. As I do think business can be selective on personals mask, as in, if they are going to wear a non uniform mask, they should wear items that are non political or offensive but more in a spectrum of colorfulness and commonly related topics. (obviously these are personal opinions, someone may feel its necessary to have uniform mask, as for now, I do think this Rubys location has elected a fun way to keeptheir business feeling comfortable in a homelike welcoming environment.SIDE NOTE (as mentioned above, the plan was to eat then leave to find Pokémon) instead, since the environment was super welcoming, and THE LOCATION has plenty Pokémon, we decided to Pokemon GO at Rubys!
