Lai Lai Restaurant
334 Broadway, Millbrae, CA 94030, United States
I first went to this restaurant in 1988. I believe that is when they first opened up in Millbrae. I brought my family back here in 2018. Still one of the best American style Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area. Absolutely fun dining here and the price is reasonable. There is an old gentleman in waiters clothes serving but he is the actual owner. Many folks in Millbrae come here for simple family dinner.

I am surprise a restaurant owner can curse a customer. I only do research with popular restaurants, then visit them and tell the truth. The restaurants are from New York to Hawaii. No matter of their price. The minute I look at their menu the first thing I notice the price has been doubled. Most of them are $10 added to the actual Chinese restaurant price. So why is their price considered expensive from my experience with so many restaurants? Please continue to read. That is fine, but is the food worthier or close to the price? It turns out, it is the worst Chinese food I have visited. Even the beef is cheaply and hard to bite. For their price you should expect they use USDA Graded Beef instead they use the cheapest ever. Even if they use worst beef they dont know they can use simple Chinese way by marinate the beef with baking solder to soften the fibers. The beef is not sliced but partly diced. That seems to be making it quick and easy. From my understand, they are not real Chinese chief like what I know.We also ordered a seafood, fish dish. Price doesnt matter to us, but it seems to matter to them because the fish not even cod fish. The fishes are not chief ready, but frozen ready. The cheap fishes are simple that mainly do not require much spices. The dish is full of oil and juices. If you notice, most of their dishes are diced vegetables and meat because that way is quick and easy. The last one is hand made noodles. It is not bad because it is a bit chewy. But comparing to Indonesian (Asia) and Korean and Taiwanese restaurants in San Jose, their texture and chewy has to better.Seriously, what I feel is none of their products for cooking are purchased at open markets but cheapest supermarkets. Also, all raw and live sea products are not purchased from a real fish market. We 2 people order 3 suggested dishes (price doesnt matter) but upset our stomach! Instead, we go to another restaurant later on.By the way, my star is for their great Declaration. I wouldnt take pictures of the dishes I ordered. Well, I did ask for doggy bags may others for extenstense my review. so the restaurant look beautiful and have many awards, but understand this restaurant it makes me understand its coking does not worth my appetite.

Perfect place to catch up with friends over a wide variety of delicious Cantonese dishes, deserts, and free tea! We experienced one of the best services from a Chinese restaurant we ever visited. Owner was super friendly and patient with us, kept our tea cups full at all times. Would visit again when we in Millbrae next time!

One of the best Chinese restaurants in Millbrae. ?????❤️❤️❤️
Tai Wu Restaurant
300 El Camino Real, Millbrae, CA 94030, United States
A typical Chinese restaurant serving classic Cantonese Chinese food. Several good dishes and has all the staples. Service is as expected for a Chinese restaurant. Parking is terrible. It’s right on El Camino in Millbrae. They do have a parking lots a couple blocks north but it is definitely not convenient. Street parking usually requires meter or have a minutes restriction. Avoid tickets!
Yummy Szechuan

This place has recently taken the heavyweight title of BEST Sichuan cuisine in the Bay Area and is now my favorite Chinese restaurant followed by Hunan Impression in San Jose and Royal Feast in Millbrae. The front of house speak canton, but I think the cook may be from Sichuan. I had been going to Sichuan Cuisine out in the Sunset district in SF since I live in the city but I now make the drive to Millbrae just for this place. The food is incredibly flavorful - you get that intense smoked wok flavor clinging to most dishes. Also, I believe that this restaurant uses higher quality ingredients than most other restaurants, which would explain why their Dan Dan Mein is actually tasty (the noodles they use are on point and appear to be marinated, the peanuts have been pre-smoked before making the sauce, etc.) as opposed to the drab, dull noodles sloshed around in cheap peanut oil that most restaurants serve. The eggplant dishes and Lotus root dishes here are all out of sight - if you want lotus root done right, this is the place.Eggplant with thousand year egg is to die for. Excellent. If I ask this place to make my food spicy...and I always do, the food is so @#$@ing SPICY that I joyfully suffer for days afterward (fellow white folk: as long as you order ahead and write in Chinese, they will make it spicy...its true, getting spicy food as a white person in authentic Chinese restaurants still proves to be a difficult endeavor, even when I plead with them in Mandarin to add spice...it only works if I order ahead on a faceless app). What can I say - eating this food is akin to some sort of painfully therapeutic massage complete with whimpering and long bouts of sobbing....but purely tears of joy and delight, friends. They use a good balance of szechuan peppercorn to dehydrated red pepper - good balance of numbing spice and an undercurrent of potent pepper spice. The only dish here that is mediocre is the beef chow mein...its just ok, but that may be by power of comparison to the other delicious dishes that Ive eaten it alongside. Lotus root, eggplant, frog, chicken hooves, chong ching chicken, pig ear...you cant go wrong with any of it. I continue to order new things and am blown away each time. The chef at this restaurant is an artist who takes his/her craft seriously and one of the best in the entire Bay Area IMHO.#chineserestaurant
Little Chengdu

This is official my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area. Their 松鼠桂鱼(pine fried fish with tomato sauce) is absolutely fantastic. We were just walking past one day and saw they have 松鼠桂鱼on their menu, so we decided to give it a try. It was the BEST we’ve had in the United States. It is my bf’s favorite Chinese dish since childhood. They do a great job. The flavor is just the right amount of sweet and sour. The fish is fried very well - not too much dough, a lot of fish meat, and most impressive of all - ALL BONES ARE REMOVED! We’ve been regular customer of theirs since then. All their other dishes are all super authentic and the price is much more reasonable than a lot of Chinese restaurants in South Bay.
Easterly Millbrae
309 Broadway, Millbrae, CA 94030, United States
If you ask me say a couple years ago Ill probably give this restaurant maybe 2-3 stars because I didnt really enjoy the food as much. Its almost directly across the street from another Hunan restaurant so I ignored this restaurant for a couple of years after one not so great visit. However, recently I really enjoy this restaurant for some unique dishes and even prefer this over the other Hunan restaurant Wonderful across from the street. What I mean is that this restaurant has a more traditional flavor/chopping than Wonderful (I dont know why but the pieces are sometimes too big in Wonderful that you felt like the one chopping the ingredients doesnt know how to properly prepare in Chinese food). There are also interesting flavors such as different styles/types of chili peppers used. They also use interesting ingredients such as lotus tip and pickled long bean that are really rare in most Chinese restaurants here. The waitress is also super friendly and efficient even though shes often the only one waiting on all the tables.
Chef Wangs Restaurant

A Chinese restaurant available at a reasonable price in the bay area was actively promoted for Koreans. However, the kimchi fried rice was at a level that was embarrassing to use its name. The sweet and sour pork was a little different because it didnt contain ketchup and was made with beef rather than pork, but it was still edible. The sizzling seafood teppanyaki was very delicious. Its a different style than many Chinese restaurants in Korea, but seems like a good choice around here.
Stick & Steam
350 Adrian Rd, Millbrae, CA 94030, United States
Stick & Steam is a good small place to get some dim sum, beef noodles, baked rice, or Hainan chicken rice, all in one restaurant. The food is good, but not as good as the restaurants that specialize in the single genre. That said, it definitely satisfied the different cravings our family had. The food came out quickly, the service was pleasant, and most importantly the food was good enough to come again. While I personally wouldn’t go out of my way to come here, if you’re in the Millbrae area and want to try some good Chinese comfort food, this place is worth a try.One more thing - everyone raves about the salted egg fries, but I thought they were only okay. Now the sea bass…..that’s something to rave about.
