Nature Vegetarian Restaurant
1116 Franklin St, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
My first time eating here. It was pretty good considering it was all vegan!! I had the veggie Peking style ribs and it was pretty good. My friend had the eggplant w/minced veggie meat and that was really good. My other friend had the tofu with minced veggie meat, but it wasnt that great. The sauce didnt taste what we expected! It looked exactly the same as in a regular Chinese restaurant, but it didnt taste the same!!! Our other 2 dishes tasted the same as if we were in a regular Chinese restaurant!!!! We will go back to try other dishes.

Vien Huong Restaurant

*2/25/2024I ordered the mixed noodles with both ho fun and rice noodles. The broth is light and clear, and it comes with lots of toppings like chili, sriracha, hoisin, vinegar, and Vien Huongs special chili sauce. Theres a mix of meats in the dish—shrimp, fish balls, pork balls, pork pieces, kidney, and your choice of sliced chicken or pork—all served with your favorite type of rice noodles. The homemade chili oil and pickled jalapeños give it a spicy kick, making the flavors really pop.1/25/2024No. 21 Chow Jew Ho Fun is a dish featuring shrimp, fish balls, pork balls, pork bits, kidney, and your choice of sliced chicken or pork, all harmoniously paired with your preferred rice noodles. The addition of homemade chili oil and pickled jalapeños provides a spicy burst, delivering that extra kick! The flavorful combination keeps me coming back for more.Venturing into something new this time, I got the fried fish cake. It proved to be incredibly tasty, although the only drawback is its slightly higher price for relatively smaller portions. But, its definitely worth a try!*Tip: Cash only.12/27/2023Vien Huongs No. 21 Chow Jew Ho Fun is a monthly ritual with my friend! Their exceptional chicken broth, light and clear, is unmatched. The chicken broth is a light and clear base for their impressive array of condiments such as chili, sriracha, hoisin, vinegar, and Vien Huongs house-made chili sauce. The dish features a generous medley of meats—shrimp, fish balls, pork balls, pork bits, kidney, and your choice of sliced chicken or pork—all served with your preferred type of rice noodles. The homemade chili oil and pickled jalapeños add a spicy burst and extra kick, creating a delightful flavor combination. We also tried their Sauteed Kidney with Ginger Onion, which I really enjoyed and highly recommend if you are not apprehensive about eating pork kidney. The kidney is well-seasoned and flavorful, with a crunchy but not mushy texture. The onions complement the kidney really well, even when paired with the Chow Jew Ho Fun.*Tip: Cash only.10/23/2023Vien Huong Restaurant is a hidden treasure. Lady behind the BBQ counter looks like she hates all her customers. Im used to the typical Chinese attitude cause Im Asian at some of their business but man she takes it to a whole new level. Dont ask her no questions, no extra sauce, why prices dont match the menu on the wall, nothing! She will beat you with a duck neck. But I still go there cause they have a very good BBQ selection and I dont want to drive to Chinatown. Just tell them what you want, pay for it and leave. Let her have her miserable life, dont let her bring you down.2023 Update: Lady is gone maybe retired cause she was old, Place is back to being a normal restaurant upgrading the stars and will be back to get my BBQ

Shan Dong
328 10th St #101, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
Came here based on the reviews, and it was pretty good! We arrived on a Saturday evening at 7:15 p and was able to park directly in front of the restaurant. The location is typical Oakland Chinatown, not the prettiest nor the cleanest! They were busy with lots of people waiting in front, so we added our name to their online wait list and was prepared to wait 30 minutes. There were a lot of people going into the restaurant picking up to-go/online orders. One thing that I do is judge an Asian restaurant based on who is actually eating inside the restaurant. For a Chinese restaurant, I prefer to see a lot of Asian people, so I was a little skeptical because it was mostly non-Asian, however, I can see how the word is out regarding this particular place, because people flock towards good food! Not many places do hand pulled noodles well, but Shan Dong is an exception! My GF is vegetarian and cant do soy sauce so we were limited, however, we ordered the vegetarian chow mein with the fresh hand pulled noodles (I just added soy sauce separately to my portion), scallop egg foo young, and the crispy onion pancake. Everything was delicious! The pancake was full of scallions and perfectly crispy... egg foo young was probably my favorite with the sauce on the side, and the veggie chow mein was nice and chewy with great texture. The portions were generous for the price. We were absolutely stuffed and needed to to-go boxes after our meal.Such a great experience with hand pulled noodles, and we will definitely be back! No pictures, as we were too excited and hungry that we forgot.

New Gold Medal Restaurant

Probably the worst Chinese restaurant in Oakland Chinatown. The food is flat out bad, but maybe to other non Chinese people they taste good. But for me they charge higher price than others and nasty tasting food. I will stay away.

Shooting Star Cafe
1022 Webster St, Oakland, CA 94607, United States
I like the food here so I have come here few times. I ordered few entrees to go today, but they wouldnt allow me to use bathroom. They were giving me some funny excuse for only allowing dine in customers to use bathroom. They told me to go to a shopping mall for bathroom. I went all the way there just to find that the bathrooms needs access cards to enter...Update: reduced stars down to one star... I waited outside where I am visible by cashier, however the lady didnt call for me even though food was ready. Really disappointing experience. I need to find another Chinese restaurant in Oakland now.

Spices 3

I had lunch here today. The food was incredible. I like spicy food. Their ratings go from one pepper (spicy) to three peppers (EXTREMELY SPICY). My friend and I ate family style. I had the sizzling chicken. It was one pepper and very spicy with jalapenos and red pepper. He had the twice cooked bacon which was two peppers. No discernible difference between the two, but both were very spicy. The taste of the food was great. And the sizzling chicken came out in foil over an iron skillet. I burned my finger and the roof of my mouth. Be careful! Someone else told me that they had the pork intestine and it was great. The food was awesome and Ill be back. The service was good and the food came out very quickly. We had to ask for water a couple times and they were out of watermelon water - oh well.A couple downsides are that the place has very little going for it in the way of decor. I like the cute logo, but once youre inside its like every other Chinese restaurant in Oakland. The second is that its CASH ONLY.
