Panda Express
34151 Monterey Ave Ste 105, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270, United States
Update 2022/08/25:Just an observation. This place must have lousy (or lazy) management. Several times Ive been here, their ice machine has been down for a long time. More often though, the iced tea dispensers are empty; when I asked a staff member, she looked in the container and said they were out. Duh! Sort of like the time they were out of fortune cookies. Nothing critical but you have to wonder what the manager is actually doing to manage the business.Sorry, but Im going to try another Panda in the area, and I have several to choose from. Im tired of not getting stuff at a place that I am used to at every other Panda across the country.Update 2022/08/19:New employee; small portions. No ice.Update 2022/08/18:Pretty much the same as usual except I was there at lunchtime and it was a lot more busy. There were 4 or 5 people ahead of me waiting for their entre to make it to the serving line because they ran out of their most popular dishes. I ordered Spring Rolls, Kung Pao and Orange Chicken. Unfortunately the Kung Pao only had a few small pieces of meat and were mostly vegetables and a meager serving portion. But it was good anyway. The Orange Chicken pieces were larger than normal but fresh and well cooked. The Spring Rolls were fresh and crispy. This place is still my standby place for a quick meal.Update 2022/06/16:Same as usual. Good, fresh food at 5 pm. Spring rolls were crispy and hot. Fast service during light customer traffic period. Tea was good but ran out as I got a refill to go. Today I got Chow Mein, Kung Pao Chicken, Mushroom Chicken, and spring rolls. Everything was fine and as I was expecting. Server was not stingy with the portions as she was the last time. Definitely Ill be back soon.Definitely one of the better Pandas around. Lots of parking. Clean dining room. The service is very good. The food is average. Today the Orange Chicken (which I got) was close to being mushy from having sat in the warming counter for a while. The only thing I dont like are the gristles that originated from the factory. The Mushroom Chicken looked sticky and gelatinous. The Green Bean Chicken looked ok but the large slices of onion looked barely cooked. The Kung Pao Chicken (which I got) looked good and it was very good - - unless you like it VERY red pepper hot, go with something else. I enjoy it being very hot. No gristles in this chicken. Very important: their fresh brewed tea was full. I hate when they dont monitor it and I have to wait for them to brew up a new batch. However, their tea is absolutely one of the best Ive found in any restaurant.Bottom line: Ill go back here again, and if something I want looks like it has been sitting a long time, Ill ask them for a fresh batch. Ive done that before and they are happy and very quick to make me a fresh batch. Very good customer service here that reflects very good management.Update 2/23/22: I just finished dinner there and it was great. Happily, it seemed like their portions were back to their prepandemic generosity. Im stuffed and happy!
Emperor Buffet
69600 CA-111, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270, United States
It’s a Chinese buffet, what can I say? I really like this place though. The food is always very tasty and everything tastes different.Service is very typical of a Chinese buffet. You get seated, sit down, someone brings you a drink and comes back every so often or you wave them down.I think that many Chinese restaurants and buffets think that we can’t taste the difference in the sauces. I can taste the difference and this place’s food is really good. The sauces all taste different, there are options for just about everyone. The vegetables in the stir fried food is cook and still has a crisp to them.If you like a good Chinese buffet, this place is for you!
Shanghai Inn
40101 Monterey Ave # A3, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270, United States
With nice decor and a calm and relaxing atmosphere, this Chinese restaurant is a cut above what one would expect in a strip mall. The portions are fairly large; even the discounted lunch specials are pretty sizable. The food, while not incredible, is certainly well made and tasty. Definitely worth a visit if you are nearby and enjoy Chinese food. One thing that I appreciate is if you let them know youre by yourself and in a hurry, you can get your food within just a few minutes of sitting down. Ive been coming here on and off for just under a decade, and havent been disappointed yet.

You might read this and still come to eat here because the food is decent but I would highly discourage you from coming at all.The food was decent. The waitresses were nice and helpful. The problem was the owner- Michael. We had a misunderstanding about the tea and the cost of the tea. He came and said sarcastically that in all his years of experience no one has had problems with the tea. We said its fine we will just drink it and pay for it. He proceeded to bring gloves and a tray and tried to take our teas out of our hands. He said sarcastically that we should just eat for free and to have a happy new year. We said we would pay for it.He repeated this all about five times. We asked him to please just let us eat and pay and leave. We were passing by in the city and just wanted to eat at a sit down restaurant. He proceeded to call the police. He literally came by our table to talk to the police. At this point we just wanted to leave so I went up to him to get the receipt so we could pay and go. He said the police were coming so we have to stay. The police came. Thank God the police talked to him on the side because he kept repeating himself to the police while they tried to calm him down. The police came to our table, apologized for interrupting our meal, and told us that it was just because Michael is riled up. They confirmed that it wasnt our fault after I told them what happened. They even told us that michael had repeated himself multiple times to them and confirmed that it was just a small misunderstanding that he overreacted about. We payed for our meal and left a tip because we felt bad for the waitresses who came over to apologize to us regarding their boss poor behavior. I asked them if this happens often but they just smiled and looked away. He is a really scary guy.
Uncle Chai Thailand Street Food
69930 CA-111 Suite 122, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270, United States
This place just opened 13 days ago and it shows. The decor looks bare and not very warm and welcoming. They are awaiting a liquor license but have tea and soda. The menu is very good and varied. But, service on a very slow Sunday evening (we were the only table there tonight), was lacking. They were out of several menu items. The wait for the food was slow. They were slow to bring drink refills. For a 6-person group, they automatically posted a 18% tip to the bill because we were a big group. Most places start at 8 in the party.Furthermore, if you are in a group, you would have the impression that the food for the entire group would be served at the same time. However, it came out phases. One persons entrée was entered wrong, resulting in a delay before he received the right order.Suggestion - the wait staff should be trained to recognize a Thai food newbie at a table and take on a more guidance role and make suggestions.Bottom line - this place has potential to become a good place to go to. Ill hold back for a few months before I consider going back. Thai Smile, which is close by is much better right now.
Cinemark Century at the River and XD
71800 CA-111 Suite A-137, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270, United States
Wow, not surprised people have issues with the food service. I waited for 25+ minutes for a hot dog that was already cooking. I asked someone at the register to get it for me as is, and he said he didnt have the proper equipment. Yet he was helping people, what would he have done if someone asked for the same. I talked to the ticket manager about me waiting for the hotdog and she said since it was cash I have to wait at concessions, understandable. I ended up going getting a refund for the hotdog. I went to my seat and realized I missed 20 minutes of the movie, to which I then went to get a refund on my ticket. I told the manager how i missed due to waiting for the hotdog and would like a refund on my ticket. i went back to start eating my wings (that I did get on time) and was then asked to show my ticket. The usher then came back and escorted me out of the theatre. Apparently I cant get a refund and finish the movie. So now Im really upset. I go to the front and the manager says Im unable to re-enter once I received a refund. I asked if Im not entitled to finish the movie after what happened. It isnt just the movie or food, I was there with a friend and now what are they supposed to do. My friend came shortly after and they apparently wanted to listen to her. I went to ask the manager if I can get a refund on all my food order and she begins to say how shes sorry and didnt know the whole situation (my friend enlightened her). How did she not know when I had told her before refunding the hotdog and when I refunded my ticket. She knew. Im so upset with the handling of the situation. Lost a loyal movie club member thanks to one horrible experience.
Kobe Japanese Steak House
69838 CA-111, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270, United States
I’m shocked to see so many recent positive reviews. I have gone to a KOBE restaurant for my birthday almost every year for as long as I can remember. I haven’t been since Covid hit and was so excited to find one near our new home. My husband had never been and for weeks leading up to my birthday, I raved about it. What a huge DISAPPOINTMENT! Everything was different! No noodles, different vegetables, different rice or an up charge to get the old, no white sauce, terrible quality. On top of that they forgot to give us the shrimp that was supposed to come with the meal. (We did take out) We called the restaurant immediately when we noticed the missing items and got the voicemail. I left a message and never got a call back. I assumed they would at least call back the next day.. nothing! I called and left a message for the manager and still no call back. I honestly can’t believe it. We paid almost $80 for an inedible, partial meal. Most of it ended up in the trash. It was like really bad Chinese food but 5 times the price. So very disappointed.
Talay Thai Restaurant
70065 CA-111 #1, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270, United States
Just got back home from dinner at Talay, and my wife and I are still talking about how flavorful - full of flavor! - the dishes were. We were three, and shared some fried wonton cream cheese Rangoon, and a steamed wonton appetizer; fresh and not heavy or oily. After a cup of excellent, rich, coconut chicken soup came the entrees, which were a curry with chicken, beef with Chinese broccoli, and a whole fried catfish. Now first off, their jasmine steamed rice was perfect (bad rice = bad restaurant in my opinion...). The curry was a 3/5 on their hot scale, and it was very complex - hot but not ridiculous, and a great after-taste! The beef had a clear light sauce with some heat, but no visible peppers. The standout dish was the fish: light;y fried to PERFECTION! The waitress - all smiles and helpful (Angie!) took the meat off the bones tableside, and it was a masterpiece! Moist, complex, no fishy or muddy taste, and yummy skin!I have been to Asia, and Southeast Asia, and I say that Talay Thai rocked it!Compared to other restaurants on Restaurant Row they are value-priced.
Normas Italian Kitchen
42418 Bob Hope Dr, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270, United States
Okay, small history lesson, lol. This italian restaurant essentially offers the original menu/recipes that Ciros in Indio used to have under the initial owners until they sold it in the early 2000s. What I know is hear say, having lived in the valley my whole life and I could be wrong. The original Ciro owners decided to start Normas to revive the old Ciros they once knew since the newly owned Ciros had diverted from the original ingredients/recipes and changed things. However, may I add Ciros has recently made a turn for the better, within the last 3-4 years and reverted back to, as best they could, to the original ingredients and recipes Ciros once used. So, now they both offer some dishes that taste/are made similar.Regardless of the history, the pizza is our familys go-to and always has been. It has simply been made the same way for the last 30-40 years. Its an oven baked pizza that is a but thicker than thin crust, but the crust is simultaneously crunchy and soft. I really enjoy the turkey sub with a side of Italian dressing to dip it into. The Chinese chicken salad is also another delicious option. The service here is always wonderful and top-notch. Lastly, the garlic bread is to die for.
