Chinese Gourmet

I recently moved to Long Beach and have been looking for a Chinese restaurant (especially for pickup and go) since I got here. This is it. Im really loving my new home, but now, with this search complete, I can relax.
Chinese Combo

I wouldnt recommend this place. Mediocre and expensive. Slightly below average for Chinese steamtable fast food, but priced like a nice restaurant with table service. We paid $25 for two lunch combos, 4 egg rolls, and one drink. They even charge extra for fortune cookies. The food was soggy and forgettable. Sad to say, but honestly, Panda Express is cheaper, (ironically) much tastier, and closer to real chinese food. Most of the people with good things to say seem to be basing their reviews on the service, not the actual food. The service was good/standard/what you would expect.

Horrible food, dry and tasteless. Panda Express is just bad and they run other delicious small business Chinese restaurants away.

Ordered Pad Seew. Love it and it was very flavorful. They use Chinese broccoli and not random ingredients like some other Thai places. I really recommend this place. Staff was friendly as well.(Side rant: I dont like how some other restaurants wrongfully add carrot and American broccoli in their Pad Seew. Its not suppose to have that. Once you see it, you cant unsee it. Thankfully, they did not.)I did not find it particularly oily, as one other review mentioned but I understand its a stir-fry noodle and not a pizza. You cannot make a stir-fry noodle without some sort of oil. That is like trying to make bread without flour.
Mothers Market & Kitchen

Although Vons has better prices on half of my items, I switched completely to Mothers because of their customer service. Lately, the customer service is I-might-as-well-go-to-Vons.On 11/5/2022 I was checked out by the same new cashier who is unwelcoming: eye contact, greeting missing, and overall seems to hate her job. In addition, she does not give me a discount when purchasing health items by case and when I take my own bags unless I remind her. When I remind her, she has a negative attitude. After many weeks of this, I approached a young man who seems to be the boss - no uniform, name-tag. I submitted my complaint to him, and he told me he would talk to Joanne, and told me he does not know where I can submit a complaint other than with writing a review. On my receipt, the name is Isabel, not Joanne, so this is confusing. The reason why I asked for her name is because they do not wear name tages. On 11/18/2022 the same energy - lack of customer service, difficult to know what cash register is open and Joanne and the other fairly new cashier distracted with the boss. Just as Joanne, this cashier lacks friendliness. I was standing waiting to figure out what cash register was open, cashier walks to register with no greeting and was distracted by looking away as she is scanning my items. She also misses giving credit when buying wellness products by the case and when I take my own bags. Interesting that they always remember to charge me when I dont take my own bags! This time, the name on my receipt is Joanne. Again, confusing. When I first started shopping at Mothers, the staff were friendly, welcoming and paid attention to details and always ready to provide customer service. I hope this can return.11/27/2022 same energy. I went to check out and found myself feeling confused because Register 1 light on but no employee. Joanne was at Register 2 (light off) with a dumb look on her face as we made eye contact. No smile or “How may I help you” or “I am open, can help you here.” She looked away. The bagger at register 3 (light off) gestured to me, “Over here.” The cashier unfriendly as usual and i had to remind her to give me a discount for purchasing wellness product by the case and for taking my own bags. Geesh!I just realized we can only review 1x and most reviews are a 5. Maybe Mother's doesn't care about customer service. I may become reacquainted with Vons and save money!

Champs Deli Restaurant

This hidden gem in Signal Hill is a great place to stop and have lunch with the family. I ordered the turkey and avocado sandwich, which was delicious with soft bread and lots of turkey. My son had the chicken wrap which they cut up into tiny little circles: he loved it. My wife had the tuna salad which was fresh and crisp. My other son had the chicken teriyaki which comes laid on a bed of soft white rice and an extra cup of teriyaki sauce. We also had some made-from-scratch potato salad and ice cream. Everything was good. The restaurant is clean. They have an all you can drink iced tea station and coffee in the corner, along with a fridge full of canned and bottled beverages that are ice cold. We met the new owners James and Annie, an older Korean couple who have a passion for the business. This new ownership has breathed new life into this Signal Hill restaurant which celebrates its 40th anniversary next year. If youre in the area stop by, I think they also do catering if you have big events or need to order lunch for your entire business. I would definitely recommend this to a friend stopping in for a quick bite to go or anyone wanting to sit down and have a good meal. They have American, Asian, Mexican and all kinds of healthy food.
Applebees Grill Bar

I've been here a few times and the one thing they are consistent with is over cooking their steaks and salmon. Overall this is a great spot for apps and drinks, but that's about it.Food: 5/10I usually just come here for the apps and the 2/$25-30 deal. The apps are usually pretty good but the last time we went the wings came out cold. Our steaks came out medium, medium well and well done when we asked for medium rare on all three. They asked for two of the steaks to be redone and they came out medium and medium-well with barely any pink. I ended up not eating but my kids were able to. They did take one of the 2/$30 deals off as compensation, and I didn't ask them to and I wasn't expecting them to, so it was appreciated that they did so.Service: 9/10The server and everyone else was super nice and everyone has great work ethic. I hated even having to ask to send my food back, but the steaks were just too over cooked. They were nice about it, but when they messed up the second time and I cut the steak in half to show them, I was told that it was in fact medium rare because they checked the temperature before bringing it to the table. I didn't want to argue because I knew the server was busy and I just told her I simply didn't want it.Ambiance: 10/10Lots of seating, nice and clean environment. Typical Applebees decor and set up.Since I live by here I do enjoy coming by a few times a year, just definitely never getting steak or salmon here.
