Golden China Restaurant
9018 Venice Blvd., Culver City, CA 90232, United States
Golden China restaurant is a hidden gem in the Culver City area. Those who know about it frequented often, those who dont are missing out big time. Theyre open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., so it makes it a perfect spot for lunch dinner and everything in between. They not only have a full menu for those that eat pork chicken and beef, they also have a completely vegan menu you just have to ask for it if thats what youre looking for. We were shocked by how quickly the food was made, and how flavorful it was. For those of us that are health conscious its a night its nice to note that they do not use MSG in their food. Its a quintessential Los Angeles restaurant, brandishing graffiti on the glass, clean bathrooms, and old school elders cooking in the kitchen. Its also right across the street from a Ross and a Starbucks so you can get your coffee fixed and your shopping fix done right after lunch. Personally, my family and I chose items off the vegan menu and they were delectable. We started off with the Mongolian beef, Veggie Chow Mein, Vegan Orange Chicken, Fried Mushrooms and steamed Brown rice. We ate to our hearts content until there was nothing left but a remnant of sauce at the bottom of the plates. Definitely recommend for anyone itching for some authentic delicious Chinese food.
Maos Kitchen
1512 Pacific Ave, Venice, CA 90291, United States
The most authentic and nostalgic Chinese restaurant I’ve ever known.Born and raised in the 70s in China, I’ve traveled around the world for the last 20 years and have visited all sorts of overseas Chinese restaurants. Mao’s Kitchen stands out from all the others. The food there isn’t just some Chinese food; it’s the Chinese food reminiscent of the old days, each dish with its own unique characteristics. The menu is printed on simple paper and looks aged, as if it has time-traveled to the present. It resembles an index of intriguing stories, each with a brief introduction. I was captivated, eager to discover what each story entails. Through the menu, you can feel the author’s love for the food and his appreciation for the opportunity to connect with each guest through the dishes.Every dish is alive, speaking to you, telling a story, full of life and heartfelt eagerness to share its essence with you.The first bite of the complimentary fried crackers, served in a simple stainless steel bowl, unexpectedly brought me to tears. They tasted exactly like the homemade crackers fresh out of the big frying pot that I used to have in my childhood during Lunar New Year. You can’t find the same in any other Chinese restaurant or supermarket. You could only have such food either cooked by Grandma at home or here. The Two-dollar Salad was worth twenty dollars. It was simple, ample, and nimble, so fresh that it seemed like it had just been brought to the table directly from the backyard garden. The sauce was another big surprise. I could tell the base was sesame paste, which is the traditional sauce we use in northern China, but there was also something else in the sauce that I couldn’t identify, making it uniquely tasty. The Hot and Sour Soup was not exactly the typical recipe but something more special. The large portion was enough for four people, so be cautious if you are dining alone.Mao’s Hometown with fish was again simple but surprisingly delicious. Fresh vegetables with tender sole fillet in a secret recipe sauce, cooked to perfection. There was no meat in the Hot and Sour Soup, making it vegetarian-friendly. In fact, vegetarians can always choose tofu or smoked tofu as a protein option in any dish which provides a choice. The service was great. The young waiter was polite, smart, and observant. He was multitasking but didn’t miss any gesture from each table. With a smiling face and attentive eyes, he seemed to run the place as if it were his own home. All these elements, combined with the nostalgic paintings on the wall, the old-style furnishings, and the warm ambiance, make this restaurant a place one wants to return to again and again, whether alone or with friends or family. It is a place where you can find not only great food but also peace, love, and life.Last but not least, being steps away from the gorgeous Venice Beach, the location is unbeatable. Nothing compares to a joyful stroll along the beach to appreciate the beautiful Pacific sunset after a fulfilling dinner.

The cashier is very rude..this isn't the first time I order a combo plate with a side of Teriyaki chicken and they don't give you the actual teriyaki sauce unless you ask for it!!!!I definitely asked at the check out if all the sauces where in the bag and the cashier replied “yes”Once I came home to have dinner with my kids I saw there was no teriyaki sauce and was very disappointed.I've been ok before when they “forget” to put the sauce but this time I made sure to ask her and was upset to see just plain chicken instead of the “teriyaki chicken” I paid for. Also when I called to explain to them my concerns the cashier was very rude and said I can go back to get the sauce if I wanted teriyaki or if I want my refund she instructed to take my order back!!Lived in Venice my whole life and this service is disrespectful and disappointing.
Little Beijing

First time ever at this restaurant. I decided to go with the number B combo. Which by the way is worded badly on the menu. You end up still confused even after reading the menu. Poor menu. The ladies that work there had very below average customer service skills. They only treat their regulars with kindness and good customer service. I viewed in a very short time I might add. On top of that they make up their own prices on the spot. They are also very tight with the terikyi sauce. ? The lady told me I could only have (2) terikyi sauces. If and when I order chicken. How do that make any sense I am vegan weirdo. I am never going to order the chicken on the menu. The terikyi sauce comes in very small plastic containers. They also charge you an extra 25 cents to add one more. Not to mention the food looks and taste extra mediocre ?. The way you guys are acting you would think they were Chin Chins on sunset Blvd. Shut this hole in the wall down their customer service sucks as well as the dry a$$ food with little a$$ sauce unless you get chicken? #veganissuesclearly
Iron Teapot Dim Sum & Bar
10306 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90034, United States
I really wanted to like this place bc there isnt a good dimsum place on the west side - you always have to travel east (actually there arent a lot of good chinese restaurants in general on the west side)It wasnt terrible (Ive def had worse) but wasnt great. There were some good dishes (sponge cake was great, vegan pork bun, egg tart come to mind) but I think a lot of things were a little underwhelming. We (4 of us) ordered a variety of dishes from:-meaty stuff (shrimp/pork siu mai, shrimp/chive dumpling, steam bbq pork bun, baked pork bun, steamed sausage roll, chicken feet)-to vegan items (v. bbq pork bun, v. ha gow, mixed veggie dumpling, fried salt/pepper tofu, v. lo bat go, v. ham sui gok, garlic cucumber salad)-and desserts (duckie red bean bun, sponge cake and egg tart)but many of them (not all) tasted a little bland. I was surprised even the fried salt and pepper tofu wasnt very salty. While the waiters were friendly, food coming out was slow, compared to other dim sum places where food always seems to be delivered. So with the underwhelming food and it slowly being brought out, on top of it being expensive for what it is, I dont think I can recommend coming here.It was very interesting to see they offered a vegan menu though which Ive never seen at other places. The decor was nice and they offered bi-lingual chinese books for kids to read.

Simpang Asia - Venice
705 Lincoln Blvd, Venice, CA 90291, United States
Price = $~15-20 pp / Service = above average / Cleanliness = above average / Vibe & interior = casual, wooden Asian street / Parking = midsize lotOrdered 1 app and 2 entrees from the traditional menu est. total cost around ~$58 pre-tip. Now, I do not know how traditional Indonesian food looks like but supposedly the entrees that I ordered are two plastic traditional versions. Both of them were a more fancy version of rice dishes. However, what an array of different flavors and mixes of what seems to be traditional sides and additions of Indonesian food.Lets start with the the Roti Paratha appetizer... The thinness of the spread like food created such a crispy texture but a slight thinner soft clouds within the inner pieces of the bread. Then, you have the curry sauce that adds such a pleasure of soft and smooth curry flavor to it. Keep in mind that Indonesian curry is not for most people might think of curry. This curry is like a milky, saucy curry that blends in a sweet and smooth flavor. Job well done Simpang! Now the entrees...Nasi Bunkus & Nasi Kuning (festival rice). If youre looking for an experience to taste Indonesian cuisine, these two are highly recommended if you want to add rice dishes to your portfolio. Both felt somewhat similar and an array of mixing additions of different meats, nuts, noodles, etc. Highly recommend both for an experience! The Nasi Kuning had a number of popular Indonesian dishes including chicken sate (satay), noodles, and beef rendang to name a few. Be prepared for a full belly of a good mix between protein and carbs! The restaurant almost gives you a feeling that you are on an Asian street food area. Obviously, you are indoors and there is a very casual, wooden type of environment which common for many traditional Asian restaurants.
