Akemi Sushi
Market Place, 3295 Castro Valley Blvd #109, Castro Valley, CA 94546, United States
After nearly leaving upon arrival as we learned there was only outside seating and had to change table several times to get warmth. We had reservations we decided to stay since it has been rated so highly. Should have gone with our first gut feeling. Seaweed salad good however didnt seem very fresh. Ordered beer not so cold. Order chicken appetizer room temperature and tons of breading hardly any chicken to speak of Then our Sashimi came wow I guess were spoiled it was the smallest pieces weve seen since restaurants reopened. The Lion King roll was hardly warmed through and several pieces had crab shell. My husband said at least you know it was real crab ? I offered this info to the server/ hostess she said Im sorry Ill tell the chef. It was the smallest Lion King role I have ever received at any Japanese restaurant laughable actually. The spider roll was a similar small size certainly not worth the $18 this restaurant is charging. We agree with other reviews here they are way overpriced. My husband and I dine out a lot and never leave tough reviews however we both decided this restaurant warranted our thoughts. Very disappointing especially when we used Google for the top sushi restaurant in Castro Valley. We clearly wont make this mistake again at the cost of over $100. Not one of the pictures on this site Port what they serve. If you are seeking great sushi try Senro or UKai in San Ramon. Outstanding food good prices and outstanding service
Ramen 101
20923 Redwood Rd Unit B, Castro Valley, CA 94546, United States
We loved ramen here. It was our first time trying it and won't be the last. There are options for you to choose your broth, protein, and toppings, which is pretty cool. I ordered tonkatsu ramen with chicken and with butter.Really enjoyed it. Service is fast and very friendly. Here, you pay first and they bring it to you. I got my order in less then 10 min. It was delicious. They had chillie sauce on side if you want more spicy. Clean and cute decor. Broth was super flavorful and creamy. Ramen noodles were fresh. My boyfriend and my brother liked their ramen too. They were super nice and considerate of us will definitely going back and recommended!

Tancho Japanese Restaurant
20861 Redwood Rd, Castro Valley, CA 94546, United States
The quality of the food at Tancho is exceptional, yet the price wont break the bank. The restaurant itself is elegant and intimate, with a traditional Japanese decor and a peaceful ambiance. The staff is knowledgeable and attentive, and they strive to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for their guests.Price $125 per person.Sake selection: Top notch.Location: so convenient, we take the Bart to Castro Valley Bart station and walked 7 mins only to get to the restaurant.Something you should know: it looks closed but its actually opened following business hour. Just push the door in and immerse yourself in another nation for 2 hours.Parking: Lots of Parking space.Reservation: better make sure reserve a seat, when we were there, its packed. Our friends brought us here to celebrate my husbands 50 years old birthday, and its the best birthday experience we ever had. We over heard a guest praise the chef raise the bar for bay area which is totally true, and we came all the way from San Francisco, and after 12 hours leaving the restaurant with a happy mood we already plan to go back.
Castro Valley Marketplace
3295 Castro Valley Blvd, Castro Valley, CA 94546, United States
This small, local grocery market with a few smaller local food shops is what it’s all about. Things are pricier but supporting local is always the way to go, if you’re able. They put a lot of thought and investment into making this spot look nice and clean and welcoming! It doesnt have that cafeteria vibe that the public market on Lake Chabot rd has, but there’s seating outside for when more things open up inside. As of now the grocery, bakery, and meat shop are open. They sell some good looking dry aged meat! It looks like a small Japanese restaurant and another food spot hasn’t opened yet but coming soon.
Lake Chabot Public Market
18911 Lake Chabot Rd, Castro Valley, CA 94546, United States
I live right around the corner and I couldnt ask for more!Theres mainly Asian Cuisine here and I cant complain.Right when you walk in, theres the Pokeatery to the left. As you may suspect, its the standard Poke Bowl concept. Its rather good and portions are hefty compared to some other places.Continuing down the left side, is Milk and Cookie Bar. Im sure youve seen the colorful ice cream creations all over Instagram. Milk and Cookie Bar definitely has some Insta-worthy treats and most definitely some mouthwatering flavors. Im a HUGE fan of their Ube. Ice Cream flavors rotate in and out so youll have to check in to see what flavors they have for the day!Shumi Ramen is the next staple in the food court. Not the best ramen place but not terrible either. It hits the spot on a cold day and when I dont feel like driving to Oakland just to get a solid bowl of ramen. Shumi Ramen offers a pretty extensive list of items so Im sure Ill be back to try more!T4 anchors the wall to the back of the Public Market. Youre standard boba place with a few other food offerings like egg puffs. I would prefer iTea over T4 but I cant complain too much about having a boba place around the corner from my house. :0)Last but very not least, Mama Chos sells some AMAZING Korean-Mexican fusion food. They sell meat and now, finally, PRODUCE! They have a great section of beverages that lines the back wall. Pricey but nothing too crazy. Ill sometimes come here to buy their Strawberry Milk and kimchi. If you love Senor Sisig or the Kogi Truck, Mama Chos has a similar concept. If youre ever in the area, perhaps having taken a nice stroll through Lake Chabot, you should definitely stop by for a bite or drink! Theres outside seating so you can sit out with your doggie! (I believe its service dogs only, inside)Yes, there are restrooms!
Golden Tee Golfland
2533 Castro Valley Blvd, Castro Valley, CA 94546, United States
Golden Tee Golfland is a true treasure for anyone looking for a fantastic outing, whether you're an avid mini-golfer or just in for a bit of arcade action. I recently visited with eight friends, and let me tell you, it was an absolute hoot! From the vibrant courses to the buzzing arcade, every moment was filled with laughter and friendly competition, making it a perfect spot for groups large and small.Let's start with the mini-golf. The courses are brilliantly designed, offering just the right mix of challenge and fun, ensuring that every hole is a delightful adventure. Our group's experience was nothing short of a hootenanny of putts and cheers. Gabe managed to snag the first place with some slick moves, while I tied for second with Nick — both of us landed on a cool 60, even though I had a couple of defaults. But, honestly, those little mishaps just added to the fun, making every shot count and every miss a moment of laughter. The arcade section was equally thrilling. Packed with classic and new games, it's a paradise for anyone looking to relive their childhood or introduce their own kids to some joystick joy. We darted around from game to game, high-fiving victories and playfully ribbing the day's less fortunate gamers. It was a hoot, and then some. And can we talk about the atmosphere? Golden Tee Golfland isn't just a place to swing clubs and score tickets; it's a vibrant hub of joy, a perfect place for an owl-out fun time—see what I did there? Owls, wise creatures known for their nocturnal adventures, would surely approve of our evening's escapades! The staff at Golfland deserve a shout-out too. They were friendly and attentive, making sure our group was having a hoot every step of the way. Their service alone makes this place worth visiting. In conclusion, if you're looking for a spot that's a hoot for friends and family alike, young and old, Golden Tee Golfland should be your next destination. It's a place where fun and friendly competition meet in a fantastic setting. I couldn't recommend it more; it's a guaranteed hoot, and that's something you can owl-ways count on. So grab your putters and your pals, and head over to Golden Tee Golfland for a day (or night!) you won't soon forget.
Pad Thai Cuisine
3774 Castro Valley Blvd, Castro Valley, CA 94546, United States
By far, the best Thai food in CV. I had a dinner and ordered the namesake dish (Pad Thai-dinner). I had the prawns. There were about 10 of them in the scrumptious noodles and thats a good helping (even for a dinner). It was a very plentiful serving and was medium heat. Ask for the pepper tray to spice it further (red chillis in a fish sauce were hot and yummy). My only beef was with the hotness of the dish. I asked for it hot and the waitress nodded in agreement. But it wasnt that hot. I needed the pepper tray to spice it up a bit more. I was the only patron in the place and service was spotty. An employee was eating and facing away from me. So, I had to get her attention anytime I wanted my water topped off or anything else (like the bill?). I took a star off because of the lack of service and my wanting my dish hot/taste.Make no mistake, this is a good place. But the service was a bit lacking. Im sure eating a lunch here would be better, since there are more wait staff. The food itself was very good. The place has a homey feel to it (probably a former residence, I believe). Parking is a bit of a challenge but youll figure it out.Edit (2/22/23): ate lunch here today. Food is still very good and very reasonably priced. While most restaurants have increased prices 25%-35%, these folks have raised prices .50-cents on most plates/meals. You still get a small salad with a lunch special too. Their food quantity is still great as well (I barely finished my lunch special plate). I ordered their pad thai/hot and it was delish. It was a bit awkward/communication but I think my waitress was asian (english was probably not her 1st language). One of the very few thai places that still have a pepper-condiment tray. They keep their 4-star rating.
Genghix Asian Fusion
20855 Redwood Rd, Castro Valley, CA 94546, United States
I have a long and personal history wit this place.I remember going to this restaurant back when I was just a kid, having just immigrated to the United States. Back then it was a buffet with Chinese, Korean, Japanese and European dishes thrown together. It was delicious.Genghix underwent many renovations as it transitioned over the years to become the traditional service restaurant it is today. They have kept many of the Chinese dishes they served before, and have expanded their sushi menu dramatically. The end result is a restaurant, whos offerings have matured and refined from its days as a greasy spoon buffet, into a rich and charming Asian fusion restaurant that offers some of the best dining in Castro Valley. Do yourself a favor and take someone you love to check it out.
The chicken on Fire
2836 Castro Valley Blvd, Castro Valley, CA 94546, United States
Chicken on Fire is a monthly go to. Was so saddened Covid-19 impacted its hours bc now I can only frequent establishment on Fridays while in the area. However, I have made the 40 mile one way trip on the weekends when the craving was at a 10.Chicken flavors are delish my favs being Soy Garlic, Sweet and Sour and Spicy. The chicken is cooked throughout with a slightly crunchy texture and sauces equally coating each wing ?. I believe they have fullsize and party wings although Ive only had party size. Order for one has approx 15 wings and for two 30 wings. I love having extra for the late nite binges. Leftovers at room temperature or tossed in the air fryer on reheat is a beautiful 12:32 a.m. ewww weee good eatin experience. The coleslaw is the absolute best. It is chilled and shredded with a slightly sweet dressing which the proprietor will not share the recipe even after 4 yrs of our asking ? I usually forgo the rice which comes with it and I double up on the slaw? oh and the chilled pickled radish or jicama (my colleague and I always ask which it is and forget as soon as we are told) is actually rather tasty and enhances the meal.
Shumi Ramen
18911 Lake Chabot Rd #1, Castro Valley, CA 94546, United States
One only a hand full of Japanese restaurant that serve curry. By far the best. The ramen is decent. They also have two Don dishes. Gyudon and cha-shu don. Personally I like to grab a curry bowl on a Wednesday over rice or over noodles and enjoy the beautiful castro valley scenery. Glad to have this place right next door.
