Ginza Gourmet Teriyaki House
5701 N First St, Fresno, CA 93710, United States
I found Ginza while out on business in the Central Valley looking for some deals on Upside. This place intrigued me as I was going to be in the area Friday and I needed meatless or fish items. This place can be a little tricky to find if its your first time going here, but its easy on and off. This store reminds me of places like Hibachi Express that are more quick-serve than full restaurant. That said, the atmosphere is nice for for a hole in the wall restaurant. The food was good, though it could use a few tweaks to make it awesome. I had the scampi shrimp with tempura shrimp and veggies plate and a bowl of miso soup. The soup came out piping hot a d freshly made and for the most part tastes as miso soup should. Service for the main plate had prompt, but also as if made to order. The plates come with a scoop of steamed rice and a small side salad. The rice was just right and fresh, the salad was nothing home to write about. It was good, bit didnt stick out. The tempura batter was light and crispy, but the sauce served with the tempura didnt add much for me. This might be a case where a different dip/sauce would come in handy. The other small critique is that Id like to see at least two pieces of tempura shrimp for that particular plate. Felt like it was mostly tempura vegetables to me. The real highlight was the scampi-styled shrimp. The sauce they used was very flavorful (you can also request to adjust the spice level, too). The shrimp was cooked very well and the main dilemma was that I wanted more of it.Most folks will like spend at least $15 for a meal (entrée and drink); the cheapest dish is around $12-$13. If you want sides or eating with family, definitely expect about $15/adult. While a fast-service restaurant, I had a good experience with the service. The front of the house was attentive with my order and also took care of the soda refills. They were also very personable as well and an overall experience. If youre looking for a relatively fast-service Japanese restaurant in Fresno, Ginza is a good choice. I believe they just need a couple tweaks and they would be a great place to go.
Kikku Japanese Food (Downtown)
2336 Tulare St, Fresno, CA 93721, United States
This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in the downtown area. The spicy crispy chicken is my favorite meal to order, though they have a variety of choices to satisfy different appetites. The service is always friendly at this location. Wait time can be higher during the lunch hour so plan accordingly by calling in or ordering online.

Yoshino Japanese Restaurant

I've been coming here since I was younger & now bringing my daughters it's still the same, love their teppanyaki & rice. We all recently came this past week with a reservation for 16, the lady who seated us at the table was rude let alone she was rude on the phone when she called me a couple hours before my reservation to make sure my party would be there by 6 & no later than 610. My sister noticed how rude the lady was too, who had blue hair & had so much attitude. I had to call to speak to the owner because of the manager, she did not have good customer service skills & did not know how to be polite over the phone. Then dealing with the lady with blue hair was upsetting, if it wasn't for my mom I would have spoken to the owner again about this lady. Other than those two ladies, the food is always great! Hopefully when we go back the lady with the blue hair is more polite than having so much attitude because of the two ladies is why I had given 3 stars.
Sakanaya Japanese Restaurant

We've been here once for our wedding rehearsal dinner and it was pretty good. We had a reservation and it still took them a while to figure seating out even though we were the first ones in the restaurant when they opened for dinner and had the reservation but the food was good and the chef was amazing. This second time around we went for Valentines Day which is a hectic holiday for the food industry, totally understandable, which is why my husband and I made reservations via google assistant. We got a confirmation email AND a confirmation call from the restaurant where the hostess double checked it the time, for 2 people and hibachi, which I confirmed. When we got to the restaurant 15 minutes early to check in, the hostess said the reservation was for SIX people for DINING, I showed her the email and told her I even got a call to confirm and she told us we would have to wait an hour and a half to be seated for hibachi at 8:30. We didn't get seated till 8:50. Our server didn't take our drink orders until almost 20 minutes after us. The chef didn't come till almost 25-27 minutes after that. And then we saw our server 4 times during dinner. Everyone at the table had to wait forever for any refills, our chef had to clear our soup and salad bowls because she took so long, and we all had to just get up and grab our own to go containers and walk out to get our check and the meal came with ice cream and she didn't even bring it. Now we were the second to last table sat and there was no more hibachi after that. The table sat after us waited 35 minutes for their server and almost an hour for their chef. They were super understaffed for an expected busy holiday. And they were so unorganized. The main hostess we were talking to was very overwhelmed when every hostess was talking to her at once and not communicating about who they were seating. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars was because the chef, Suza (Im guessing on the spelling) was incredible and hilarious and engaging. And also because I thought for the stress the main hostess was going through I felt she handled everything as best as possible.

Donovan was the host taking down the names and contacts of the guests to put down on the wait list. There was one family ahead of me. I was told there would be a 10-15 minute wait for either the teppanyaki grill area or at a booth. I asked the host that if we sat at a booth, would we be able to have our food cooked on the grill. The host said yes, so we chose to sit at a booth. Upon Donovan getting ready to take us to the table, Donovan stated we would have to wait again, because my stroller would block the server from our table. The other female hostess offered me high chairs for my twins, and I informed her they are not yet sitting upright, so they will be unable to sit in the high chairs. There would have still been a path for the server to get through upon observation of the area if I kept my twins in their stroller, but Donovan insisted we go back to the waiting area and wait for another table. What was the difference between my stroller being on the end of the table vs. two high chairs? They took up the same amount of space. Donovan didn't want to sit us at the grill area either, because of my stroller for my twins. In the meantime, Donovan sat between 2-3 different parties that came in after my party, which had about 6 people in each group, before seating us.We finally were sat at a table toward the back of the restaurant. Doauchi was our server. I ordered their tapenyaki lunch special. My friend ordered double rice, and her daughter ordered the tofu and rice. All of which were from the teppanyaki options. When our food came out, we asked the waitress how it was prepared, as we were under the understanding that our food would be prepared on the grill, but instead was cooked in the kitchen. I informed Doauchi of my conversation with Donovan prior to being seated and she said she would check with him. When Doauchi came back to the table, she said Donovan said I was confused, and that the manager, Sendie said that it would be an additional 30 minute wait to have our food grilled. I wasn't given my drink until about the time I was packing my food to go to, so I had to put it in a to go cup. Doauchi also processed my friends bill and did not complete mine, although I had it ready before my friend had hers ready. She literally brought my friend back her receipt, said have a great rest of your day and did not return. Sendie the manager refused to give eye contact and refused to give us any service. I had to eventually flag down another waitress, so that they could process my payment, which delayed us being able to leave the restaurant. The manager Sendie was standing at the host area when we were leaving, and she made sure to not give eye contact, a smile, nor a friendly greeting such as “thanks for dining with us.” I also ordered a spider roll, and to my surprise when I got home to eat it, it had ice berg lettuce inside. I have not ever had lettuce in my sushi. It was disgusting.End of story, I am extremely disappointed in the manner I, my twins, and my friend was handled today. I am disappointed by the hostile energy from the staff mentioned. I'm disappointed in the lack of ownership from Donovan's confusion on the question I asked him, and in turn, Donavan having the host to come back to the table and telling me I was confused. I am disappointed that the manager did not come over and acknowledge the situation, and treated us like our business didn't matter. I am lastly disappointed in the way we were discriminated against.
You Me Sushi
389 E Shaw Ave, Fresno, CA 93710, United States
I wouldnt call myself a sushi connoisseur but I eat a lot of sushi and I can say this, dont eat sushi in Fresno period. If you want real good quality sushi I recommend SoCal or NorCal. I am the type of person who gives a place three tries prior to making my final decision, why this place sucks:1) The sushi sucks so bad. If youve had great sushi before you know that when it goes into your mouth it should be about room temperature, buttery and tender. Unfortunately at Aji, jack mackerel in Japanese, the fish is poorly thawed, you can taste how the water cells were poorly and quickly thawed which gives the fish a grainy texture and cold and watery taste when you bite into it. The Ono, aka mahi-mahi, is not ono, like many restaurants here in the Central Valley, they cheap out and give you Escolar, aka butterfish, a much cheaper fish instead.2) The customer service is horrible. If youre unlucky youll most likely get someone who doesnt speak a lick of English, so what ever you ask for will be ignored or theyll pretend you never asked. Im Asian and I understand that there are lots of international students who dont or cant speak English which is fine, but just let someone else know so they can help. Since this restaurant is located by Fashion Fair mall, Fresno State and local businesses they get quite a few foot traffic, but not enough to make you forget about your customers especially the food they ordered 30 minutes ago.TLDR: If you actually like sushi dont eat sushi in the Central Valley period, you get what you pay for.
Brothers Ramen and Japanese Eatery
132 W Nees Ave Ste. 108, Fresno, CA 93711, United States
What I found interesting is the Karaage. It was unexpectedly good. The way the lemon added this layer of flavor to the very distinct Japanese ingredients already flavoring the meat was nice. The noodle. You get to choose to add your own toppings, and each come with additional charge. I don’t think there was anything special. It was a nice bowl of noodle, but not something I can’t get over. I must commend the fact thar the soup didn’t have that over stewed, salty flavor. Usually in the evening some restaurants don’t change their soup and the soup is left very salty. The soup in this instance tasted neutral like it should.Lastly, they don’t serve tea. I’m so use to ordering hot tea with my Ramen, I walked away feeling slightly disappointed. It didn’t feel complete. But after experiencing the vibe of the place, I understand that serving hot tea with noodle is not the aim.
