Sushi Forest
12130 E Carson St #A, Hawaiian Gardens, CA 90716, United States
If I was all alone in the forest, and I farted.........would it make a sound?Sushi Forest, a quaint sushi restaurant in Hawaiian Gardens, offers 20% off sushi & rolls daily and 50% off beer & sake Sat-Sun. Always a fan of trying new restaurants, especially when sushi is involved, I made it my mission to stop by for lunch.Owner & sushi chef, Mark, is the entire, one-man army kitchen. He gave me recommendations on what rolls I should order, which I ended up selecting Marks Roll (named after the chef, himself).Complimentary miso soup was brought out. Unfortunately, edamame is extra.Marks Roll-A spicy tuna roll, with green onion, yuzu wasabi sauce, Sriracha & wonderfully thick cuts of yellowtail, Marks Roll was absolutely delicious! Did I mention the meticulously cut slices of yellowtail were thick? A large size roll, I enjoyed the heat of the Sriracha pairing with the fresh tuna & yellowtail. Factoring the 20% off, the totat including tax was only $7.48. Not bad, at all!For those that dont care for fish, meat specials include-Chicken bowl/$2.99Beef bowl/$3.99Chicken or beef plate/$4.99Service was good. A woman seated me & brought out my miso soup & lemon water. She was quick with refills and clearing plates. To reiterate, Mark is the kitchen, so while I was the first one there and my food came out quickly, Id imagine there could possibly be a long wait for your food to come out.A small dining area has 2 booths & 4 tables, along with the sushi bar. 2 flatscreen TVs have the sports channels on. Booty-shaking KPOP pumps through the in-house speakers for your musical entertainment. Parking is in a private lot and not a problem.Mark has plans to offer live chopped octopus in the future, which Im ecstatic for because thats one my foodie to-eat list. Live sea cucumber is also on the radar. Currently, he has ginormous live shrimp, which for $9.99 each, will get you sashimi & soup made with the head.Sushi Forest is a wonderful new, non-franchise, hole in the wall sushi restaurant that Im excited to put on my food rotation. The Marks Roll was constructed well & I could taste the flavor from the fresh fish & other ingredients. There may be a wait because Mark is running the kitchen all by himself, but I think youll find the food & service to be well worth it. Or, do like me & go when its not busy ;pI highly recommend Sushi Forest next time youre in the mood for sushi.NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM

Pepes finest Mexican food
11900 E Carson St, Hawaiian Gardens, CA 90716, United States
I go pee pee for Pepes! Metaphorically speaking, of course ;pGinormous portions! Pepes Finest Mexican Food takes the place of former tenant, Taco Bell. Same layout, including drive-thru. Whenever driving down Carson St., I noticed how busy Pepes always seemed to be. In need of something new for lunch, we came here to fill up.Pepes breakfast burrito-Huge ass burrito, bro! Their signature burrito, Pepes breakfast burrito comes with choice of meat or combo thereof. It is served wet, either with red or green sauce. This bad boy lasted for two meals, even for this devourer of food. I wasnt expecting beans & rice inside the burrito, as I prefer breakfast burritos w/o, but thats only a minor nitpick. Pepes breakfast burrito was good, and quite filling.Carne asada fries-Look at all that guac! Look at all that salsa! Enough to feed a small nation, the carne asada fries are not for the faint of heart. Upon first opening the Styrofoam tray, I thought Good God!. Its definitely something youre not going to see on a Light & Fit menu.Service was good. When our food was ready, the staff threw in a free chicken enchilada & taco plate. Score! Seating is via tables & booths. Compliments to their restroom. Theyre spotless! Being Hawaiian Gardens, I expect to see markers & knifework adorning all surfaces of the restroom. So, either Pepes restrooms are well taken care of, or they replace materials that are damaged by graffiti often.Parking is via their own private lot. Pepes is located across the street from The Gardens Casino. The way to my heart is by way of massive portions. Pepes has calorie-laden plates that keep your appetite in check for a long time. I found the food to be delicious, and the clean & inviting interior a great environment to stay and have a meal. Im eager to peruse the menu & try something new the next time I visit Pepes.Highly recommend!NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM

Jang Soo Sushi Bar Restaurant
12591 E Carson St, Hawaiian Gardens, CA 90716, United States
Hate to say this but I go there because my mother n mother in law likes it here but would not be my first choice for Japanese food. But its one of very few korean Japanese restaurant around here. As long as you stay away from sashimi or sushi its safe. Remember that it is my opinion only.

East Buffet
12100 E Carson St A, Hawaiian Gardens, CA 90716, United States
To da East, my brotha, to da EastEast Buffet is an expansive Chinese buffet, located in the hood of Hawaiian Gardens. After the Walmart Neighborhood Market closed down, the shopping center had been mainly deserted. However, after East Buffet opened up shop, the parking lot has been bustling with hungry tummies awaiting to be stuffed.$9.99 weekday lunch, with 10% off couponSushi-Better in quality than most Chinese buffets, East Buffet had saba (mackerel) & unagi (freshwater eel) nigiri. The unagi wasnt as good as at sushi restaurants, but the saba was delicious, with the brightness of the brine & the fatty slices of mackerel. Another item I enjoyed was the fresh seaweed salad. I helped myself to quite a few helpings of that.Mongolian BBQ-De rigueur for Chinese buffets, the Mongolian BBQ here had all the bells & whistles expected. Beef, chicken, shrimp, assorted vegetables, noodles, brown eggs & enough diced garlic to vanquish Edward, Bella & the spawn from their loins (Twilight reference).Grill-I always make this my first stop, as there can be a substantial wait for your choices of meat to be cooked to your preference. Beef, marinated pork belly, pork chops, shrimp & squid. The beef was quite wonderful cooked medium rare. The pork belly was good, although I wouldve liked it to be cooked to a crispy texture. I enjoy squid, but something about the squid here seemed a bit off.Hot items-Other than a bowl of miso soup, I didnt partake of any of the hot items. I was more focused on the freshly grilled meat, Mongolian BBQ & sushi. My eyes spied fried chicken wings, pizza, French fries, clams, mussels, breaded & fried shrimp. My brother raved about the bourbon chicken, so Ill have to try that during my next visit.Dessert-Cant leave without satisfying the sweet tooth! On the healthy side, plenty of assorted fruit to choose from, such as cantaloupe, watermelon & strawberries. More on the sinful side, pastries & small cakes are on hand, like macaroons. Feeling devilish? Then about 12 flavors of Thrifty ice cream are hypnotizing each passerby, with their creamy texture & refreshing temperature. I had the green tea & chocolate, both delighting my tastebuds. To top it off, a chocolate fountain stands flowing its rivers of cocoa liquid. Marshmallows are directly to the right of the fountain, and diners can always use the fruit & assorted pastries if marshmallows arent their thing.Service was good. My brother had his soda filled several times without asking. Our plates were cleared in a timely manner, leaving us more time to fill our table space with more food. Ample seating, with a private dining area for large gatherings. The buffet is U-shaped, surrounding the main dining area. The restaurant, including the restroom, was kept clean the entire time I was there.Parking is in a private lot, shared by Pollo Inka Express, OReillys & other businesses.Oh, man! Looks like I have to dust off the elastic pants & XL shirts. East Buffet is a great buffet value, serving various food items which most people can find something to like. If you stick to the freshly cooked items, sushi & dessert like I did, then you wont leave disappointed. Ill have to limit my visits here, as self-control & buffet dont correlate in my mind.Highly recommend!NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM
