Nagame
2650 W 16th St, Merced, CA 95348, United States
Nagame is a delicious local institution, and just about the only thing I like in this wasteland.Ive seen reviews complaining that Nagame is not a sushi restaurant. This disappointment is somewhat understandable, as the current restaurant description on Google Maps is Sushi, chicken teriyaki & other Japanese classics offered in an unpretentious setting. I would edit this description if I could. While Nagame does have some such options, it is generally NOT a sushi place. If you want primo sushi, look elsewhere, like, a different part of the nation. But if you want many other forms of Japanese cuisine prepared with baller execution, I recommend Nagame as much as humanly possible. It is a phenomenal *Japanese restaurant.*Ive seen other reviews complaining that diners were turned away because the restaurant was booked solid and these diners didnt have a reservation. Isnt that how every restaurant in the universe works?! I myself was turned away once because I showed up on Valentines Day at dinnertime without a reservation. So I thought oh duh and pursued some other dining option. Nagame *generally* doesnt require a reservation, but if you want to be sure, pick up the dang phone.Anyway, Nagame rules.

So we went for lunch and the flavor wasnt bad and the prices were decent. However, the lady taking our order didnt even bother telling us about the daily specials she just asked if we wanted free miso soup. We didnt even see the specials until after we paid because the sign was on the long end past the counter, past the register. What equally upset me was we did order something that was on the special menu, but since we were looking up at the menu and not directly at the hidden specials sign, she charged us full price. When we finally walked past the specials sign and noticed what we ordered was on special, she looked right at us. She didnt offer to substitute something for us overpaying or offer to give us the difference. We just nodded our heads and sat down.As you can see from my pictures the salmon roll was odd. They put cooked salmon inside a salmon sushi roll...lol. it was strange enough that my 3 kids winced at it. They are used to seeing it uncooked. The flavor wasnt bad, but it wasnt great. I will not order it again thats for sure. The ginger beef dish was really good and we loved the to go containers they serve their food in. Its super convenient!!!This place is decent for cheap college students who cant afford actual good sushi or higher end Japanese restaurants. Its like....a Japanese fast food place, all about the amount of people coming in and not about the quality. But for a quick bite, fairly inexpensive, and not expecting high standards, this place is will do.

Food was very underwhelming by the time I completed my third bite I was ashamed to say I worked for a Japanese restaurant at some point. The beef was disgustingly greasy and not properly strung or cooked the teriyaki chicken was salty and had a loss of flavor beyond salt the veggies were dry and must I say frying broccoli squash and a yam is not a good choice even if it wouldve been a good idea it was still poorly fried never again will I eat here nor do I recommend anyone else to waste their money here .

One of the receptionist in the first floor left building for the ultra sound dept. She was in a pink polo shirt. Mexican lady wearing glasses. Thats located in the left cubicale window. This receptionist is representing the company of El Portal Imaging. Well she had the worse customer service skills. Someone needs too train her and then she made a comment because a natural woman didnt want to use the male bathroom and the heavy set receptionist on the right agreed with this receptionist. They were making fun of a patient & their little conversation started over the LGBTQ topic. Both receptionist were laughing. Their management needs too train them better and both receptionist need too keep their opinions and feelings to themselves. Not every person cosigns for all this madness. However, The White woman had the right to refuse to use the male restrooms. It was her choice but to have workers representing your company make a joke about it all is completely tasteless. Period!! This all occurred on April 22, 2024.

This is a grocery store that I frequent because they have wonderful produce and a wide variety of different Indian food as well as a wonderful Bakery and Deli. They also carry some of the Beyond beef products that I absolutely love and which are hard to find at other stores. I also love that they carry canned crab meat which I also have difficulty finding. Today, while at the self-checkout, I was having difficulty ringing up a bag of grapes and made a mistake. I needed assistance so I approached Janice, who was having a (flortatious) personal conversation with a fireman. She glanced in my direction and returned to her conversation with the firemen. I waited another twenty or thirty seconds before the tall dark-haired gentleman with the nice smile asked if I needed assistance. He came over and helped get me situated. The lady who was ringing up her own items in the self checkout next to me, needed assistance because she was trying to ring up alcohol and Janice told her she could not ring up alcohol at the self-checkout. Then, Janice approached the lady and began to take the pack of beer from the checkout as if she were going to take it away from her. Janice then ask her whether she wanted it or not and seemed completely careless of the ladys purchase and if she didnt want to get back into another LONG line... and the lady replied saying yes she wanted it but would she have to wait in line again. Janice refuse to assist her to get into another line with quicker assistance. She was very rude in my opinion. I have never been mistreated by any employees at the store. All of my experiences shopping there over the past two years have been Pleasant. While I was outside putting away my cart, I happened to see a manager named Frank who was helping collect carts. He was very pleasant and I told him about the situation that had occurred. He promptly apologized and even said he would address it with her. I also would like to give kudos to the tall dark-haired mustache younger guy working at the self-checkout. I have been helped by him before and he is very pleasant and friendly. Because of Frank and the mustache man, I am giving three stars. Unfortunately, Janice with the attitude which matches her eyebrows, takes away from the experience all together and left a bad taste in my mouth this Fourth of July weekend. I will continue shopping there I just hope I dont have to run into her anymore. I do hope to run into Frank again.

It saddens me to write this review, in fact, it is the first time I have ever took the time to post my feelings regarding my satisfaction on any goods or services I have purchased. If you are reading this and live anywhere close to Merced, California, you all know we are very limited in our dining choices, so when we find something we like, we are loyal to it. My issue isnt about food or service quality as both have been excellent since I found Sushi Cuisine almost 2 years ago. My issue is the honesty and integrity of ownership and management. On 7/6/2019, after another great meal, I received my check. I found that I was charged $12.99 for an item priced on the menu at $10.00. When I brought this to the waitresses attention, she checked with management, and said that she was sorry, but the price was $12.99 and the owner didnt update the price on the menu. She turned and walked away. I called her back asking that she adjust my already consumed purchase to the posted menu price. She said she was sorry, but she could not do anything. I signed my credit card for the purchase and included NO tip. I walked up to the counter to again ask that my purchase price be adjusted. I had 5 employees at the counter staring at me. I was again given a very polite apology and told that they could not do anything about it. I was told that the owner would be back in on Monday if I wanted to discuss. With my mouth wide open, I handed my waitress her tip in cash (not her fault) and left. Im sad to say that I will never return. My $40.00 - $60.00 purchases every 5-6 weeks wont financially ruin them, nor do I want it to. But I would have to kick my own a$$ if I ever purchased from them again. Its not the $3.00, I can afford that. Its hard to believe that in this day and age, a business would not honor its posted price, especially when a customer makes a buying decision based on a posted price and then consumes it. I cannot return it for a refund (actually, I would be more than happy to return it to them, they just need to give me 12-15 hours) Thank you Sushi cuisine for making me take one step further away in my trust in humanity.
