Umi Sushi & Sake
630 Embarcadero, Morro Bay, CA 93442, United States
Quaint little Japanese restaurant with a great location in Morro Bay. Service was very good. Our server constantly checked on us if we needed anything. We ordered ikura and uni nigiri sushi. They were so fresh and delicious that I had to order another one! The shrimp tempura appetizer was battered perfectly. The Chirashi was presented very nicely. If youre looking for good sushi at Morro Bay, this is the place to go to!

Chowa Bowl

The Rock Shoyu Ramen was incredibly delicious and unique, the broth had an intense spice fragrance that reminded us of Chinese or Vietnamese beef stews and the noodles had a chewy handmade texture (not sure if it was actually handmade, would be cool if it is) and the pork tender and melt in the mouth. The Okie Pokie was very tasty and fresh. However for the price at $16.50, especially the ramen, there should be more veges, garnish or pickles, its very spare for the price, just I small piece of seaweed, a piece of pork and half an egg. Also, no GF noodle options.I did read that they are trying to buy local veges and seafood (hopefully meat too!) and I hope that continues as its a big plus. We enjoy small food places with a creative twist and this is a refreshing addition to MB.

Morro Bay Maritime Museum
1210 Embarcadero, Morro Bay, CA 93442, United States
It only took 25+ years but finally open!! I adore local gems like this. Small little museum but jam packed with really neat local maritime artifacts from three foot long shells fired from a Japanese submarine deck-mounted cannon to an early native peoples reed boat used to fish abalone when they used to be unbelievably populous around here and staffed with enthusiastic and very knowledgeable docents. When open make sure you catch one of the 4+ movies in their 3-4 person theatre thats in the back and go outside and up the stairs to clamber about the coast guard rescue boat that is fully open to the public(so cool!!). More legacy oceangoing vessels and curiosities being added regularly and always excepting endowments or contributions of local seafaring relics. Free ($3 donation recommend but not required or guilt-tripped into) and somewhat impressive little gift shop with great souvenirs and trinkets. Perfect for kids as a last stop after a bay day, on your way home from the embarcadero with family/friends, or reason enough alone to make the trip and take in some beautiful Morro Bay fogshine at the waterfront.

Museum of Natural History
20 State Park Rd, Morro Bay, CA 93442, United States
Rates a plus and a minus. My wife and I took our grandkids (ages 3 and 5) to the museum three days in a row. The kids really liked the interactive exhibits and the puppet theater. The older grandson was thrilled to match the stuffed Black Oystercatcher bird with a photograph of the bird with the puppet version of the bird. He also worked his head around taxidermy as theyre alive but theyre not now. The main strength of the museum for kids the age of our grandkids was that they interacted with concepts of nature in a positive way.Not all was positive, though. On the first day, the kids just had fun. They were supervised by us, but the volunteers at the museum allowed them to interact in a natural way, as kids their age naturally would. On the second and third trips, though, the senior citizen volunteers (one each day) clearly were upset and overwhelmed by their energy and spoke sharply and critically to them. Im retired myself and do volunteer work, so I applaud those helping out at the museum. However, when the volunteers become so attached to the museum that they cant stand to see kids interacting in the manner the museum was designed for, then that definitely becomes a minus. Otherwise, the museum vibe descends to being a great place for the volunteers and not-so-great for the visitors. We would rate the museum as a five-star experience except for the dampening effect of the two over-controlling volunteers we experienced.
