There arent many Japanese restaurants around. This is always a favorite restaurant to go to when we are in Downey.
Oishi Teriyaki & Sushi

Good price for a meal but with plain or barely any flavor on the food. Came here with the family craving sushi and teriyaki, was impressed with the menu and pricing. Ordered cali tempura roll, teriyaki chicken plate, shrimp with chicken chow mein, miso ramen, and a spicy miso ramen. Most and only liked was the cali tempura roll. You can actually taste and distinguish the ingredients from one another. Chicken and shrimp chow mein was plain tasting no excitable flavor. Noodles had pale monotone flavor. Veggies were steamed, but again, there was no seasoning or flavor. Chicken teriyak was boring, and nothing gave my palate any excitement. Teriyaki sauce was watered down, wasnt a bit sweet, just gave the chicken a semi glazed look. Everything had a steamed rice taste, very monotone. Miso ramen soups were sad, and neither had any distinct flavor. The spicy one was not spicy at all, added Sriracha and chili oil, and barely any spice. Its true, you pay for what you get. I personally would not be back. I would advise you to try at your own discretion.
Roll and Teriyaki

Names not very memorable, but Ive tried most of the quick serve take out sushi places around this area, and Roll and Teriyaki is THE best in terms of quality and cost, based on my experiences.Their only flaw is that they dont automatically give you wasabi and ginger with your rolls (last 2 times I ordered from here) you have to specifically ask for it. Their selection is a little smaller too, as they only have the most popular kinds of sushi, and not the more exotic stuff. That said, so long as you take advantage of their weekday and weekend specials, they have the best prices in town, and the quality of the food (including the ingredients) are a cut above. Theres less rice and more filling compared to most places, and the seasonings and the preparation are very good. The parking in this plaza sucks, and its usually better to get takeout rather than try to eat in (not much parking and the dining area is small too), but if youre in the mood for more conventional sushi (not uncommon / eclectic kinds) this is the best place Ive found. They have the quality of the expensive places, while having the cost of a cheap place. If youre curious about this place, and want to try it while its still cheap, Id recommend coming by sooner rather than later, as the quality of the food here is so good, I can only see the prices going up in the future. They beat the pants off of more expensive places, and the quality really is comparable to the fancy sit down restaurants.

We went through the drive-thru. The girl who took my order nice. She was about to add some teriyaki sauce to my bowl because I forgot to ask for it at the speaker. But, she was stooped by SARAH who took my CC back after I had already paid to charge me an extra $0.65 for sauce. The first girl even asked SARAH why she was going to charge me, when SARAH said I need to charge them. When I asked why she charged me when other places dont usually charge for a little extra sauce in the bowl, she said they all should have charged me extra.Suffice to say she was not pleasant. I feel bad for her those that have to work with her. You need some customer service training Sarah, even if you were supposed to charge, dont be rude about it. Ill drive to the Norwalk location next time.BTW: No complaints about the food. It was delicious.

When the owner is there it is very bad service. He is extremely rude to customers. He refuses to give complimentary sriracha, teriyaki, soy sauce. If you want anything complimentary it needs to be added in your bowl at the time of purchase. You add it yourself. The owner rudely pushes the bags of bowls towards your way. If the sauces don't fit in the bowl or you want sauce on the side he will always make you pay.Food is good and fresh, but I refuse to ever go again bc of how rudely the owner treats people.Furthermore, I called in for my order. He never asked for my name. The owner just hung up on me and when I got there my order was not ready nor did he even plan to put in my order. It was ordered once o got there to order. If this was the case he should of told me there are no phone orders when I called and asked.

Stay away from this place. The food quality is not up to standard. I dont know how they call this place at Japanese restaurant when they play alternative music all night. You are better off going to yoshinoya fast food. Not one thing Japanese is authentic here.
