Hoki Korean BBQ & Japanese Cuisine
2625 Coffee Rd, Modesto, CA 95355, United States
This is by far the worst Korean BBQ restaurant Ive ever been to. 2 out of 10 I do not recommend. The waitress horrible. She was not helpful at all. She acted like she didnt want to answer our questions. I ended up spending a lot of money for food I did not want. There are things that I feel are standard at Korean restaurants and they dont offer any of those. No lettuce, no garlic, only three side dishes. They keep it very dark there. You cant see your food very well.

Hawaii Pot Shabu Shabu House

I had taken my previous comment off about not being served and giving it a one star review… because to be fair, it was me walking in 30 minutes before they closed their doors for the day, so I had to do it justice by coming in on a day where it was ACTUALLY dinner time. This is probably by far the ONLY hot pot place in Modesto, and to be quite fair, I was amazed at the quality of the food and the veggies and everything they offered. It's a little expensive considering the fact that it's $31 per person on the weekend — even for weekday dinners. It's a good place for introverts who don't wanna do a lot of socializing… so I found it kinda ideal. They have you choose your soup base, your meat, and whether or not you want fountain drinks. Best of all they have yogurt soju here — so if you're craving some yakult like liquor, you're in luck. These are usually all included, so I thought that was a plus. We didn't get the appetizers because the just turned out to be too expensive, because let's be honest — WHO PAYS $12 FOR CHICKEN WINGS? OR FOR ANY OTHER APPETIZER?I absolutely admired their sauce bar though — lots of diversity in terms of sauces and even minced garlic and different sorts of onions. On the flip side, service was meh. I'm giving it a 3 because though the food was absolute heaven, we had to wait several minutes to get a waiter's attention for a refill of the original broth. In addition, we kept on getting stared down at — which I did not appreciate. If you're going to treat customers with respect, at least don't act salty please ?In addition, we weren't even greeted a hello at the door…. And they didn't ask whether or not we wanted to sit at the bar or at a table, like that's just common sense.Atmosphere was pretty poppin but it started to die down after 7pm, which you know is not a good sign… I liked the solace of it but it definitely did not sit right with me.I would go back but maybe on special occasions?
Bauhaus
405 Downey Ave, Modesto, CA 95354, United States
Ive travelled far and wide, from Michelin starred restaurants to legendary local haunts, and yet nowhere on earth have I had a dining experience as phenomenal as Ive had at Bauhaus. The food is as fresh as it is original, often brought in shop the same day from the local farmers market or a shoreline if looking for seafood, with everything made right for you behind the bar counter in the worlds most magical little oven; how they make food ranging from pastrami banh mi sandwiches to honey covered garlic brie pastries is beyond me, but everything - everything - is exceptional. The beer and wine selection is robust with something for everyone, including house made red and white sangrias that feature fresh fruit in the glass. Hard to beat. But, what takes Bauhaus from merely being an excellent place to grab a bite to eat to being truly special are the people that infuse the space with love. Chef Tye and the hostess, Meara, make you feel as welcomed as if you were their closest friends and take care of you equally as well. Laughter and storytelling between patrons and them is a common occurrence and you just cant help but leave with a great big smile on your face, and at the heart of it all, isnt that what its all about? This place is not to be missed ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Konfucious Eats Ramen Shop
1700 McHenry Avenue 66 1/2, Modesto, CA 95350, United States
We had a wonderful dinner here tonight. Ernie has done the ramen world a great deed! We had the Shoyu Ramen, and the Tori Paitan. Ordered the Gyoza and Edamame - both are flavorful and very tasty! We split the Egg Sando and the Katsu Sando - loved them both! Since having Ernies ramen last spring - we feel like the broth has been stepped up and noodles are on point with perfection. Congratulations on making your dream (and our dream of having great ramen in California) Reality! Chee Hoo!7/3/2022 - Another Visit! Its been 17 months since we have visited Ernie and his crew. Once again - we are totally blown away by the fabulous menu, and such fantastic food! We have the Pork Gyoza, Karrage and the special Agadashi Tofu! Sadly we wanted the Korokke, but they were sold out for the day (Im sure its because it is yet another amazing dish). I ordered the Miso Ramen with Pork Belly - and my wife had the Katsu Sando. We are so surprised by how complex and deep the broth has developed and gotten way better than even 18 months ago. The Ramen that Ernie has brought to California has grown by leaps and bounds - I did not think it could get better, but yet - I am pleased! His broth has reminded me of living in Japan many moons ago - such fantastic ramen there, but Ernie has stepped up his game yet again. Servers were great, and attentive - and Ernie took a few minutes out of his day to show me the new noodle machine. Such a fantastic machine - 120 servings in an hour and 20 minutes. We wish Ernie continued success! We also had the strawberry mochi - delicious! We will be visiting again - but not so long in between! BTW - we took a Garlic Ramen to go - to enjoy for lunch tomorrow at home! If you dont know what real Ramen is about, you are doing yourself a disservice by not paying Ernie a Visit.
Dewz Restaurant
1505 J St, Modesto, CA 95354, United States
The inside is a great atmosphere. Exposed brick walling, red and black decor, pillows on the booth side of the tables. Upon entering is a lounge area and the bar. However, it was freezing in there. We were immediately seated and our water glasses filled. Our sever was Shauna, and she was excellent. Unable to drink any alcohol, a mocktail was created for me. I opted for Strawberry Basil yet the drink was a deep red of Strawberry with a leaf of Basil. So there was the aroma of Basil when I took a drink, but the leaves werent muddled and incorporated into the drink. The house bread is served with a blend of Mediterranean olive oils and the olive oil had exceptional flavor. We chose the Starter Sampler, $17 a person. It came with Calamari which was served with marinara and aioli - the marinara had some spice to it and was a bit chunky. Aioli Im not supposed to eat while pregnant but I snuck in two bites - and it was delicious. Next was Pumpkin Ravioli (2 pieces) which had a swirl of balsamic vinegar. The conflicting flavors were the perfect combination and I was pleasantly surprised I 1) liked the pumpkin and 2) enjoyed the BV with it. The third was a Pork Belly in a Korean Chili Sauce; we were warned it was Spicy and it was however the spice didnt overpower anything and still led to a great flavor. The fourth and last item was grilled Brie. Unlike traditionally Brie, wrapped in a bread, this was on top of a piece of bread that I believe she said was soaked in balsamic. It was absolutely amazing! We both got the lobster bisque and it was quite interesting how it was served. A bowl with the pieces of lobster (3 or 4 pieces at the most), some vegetables (e.g. Celery, onions) is served and then the bisque poured over top.My husband and I each chose a steak ($55 each). I chose the special of Petite Filet which was supposed to have one type of cheese on it but as the cheese wasnt pasteurized, I went with the bleu cheese since it was. My husband had a Kobe ribeye which our served said was actually crossed with Wagyu. Ive never heard of that cross but I guess they could be bred together? Our sever described the ribeye as tough yet I think she meant to say fatty....ribeyes tend to be due to marbling yet I dont think of them as tough. Sirloins, sure. Lean New York Strips, maybe. My filet was cooked correctly and tender, yet not tender enough to cut with a fork. And the Ribeye had good flavor. I honestly wouldnt have expected the filet to cost as much as a Kobe/Wagyu steak, so the cost surprised me. Overall, neither steak entree gave me a wow-factor.For dessert, and I really wanted to try about 4 different kinds, we choose the Banana Creme Brûlée Cheesecake. The sugar is torched table side and you watch the bananas caramelize. I was utterly disappointed in this. Im used to fluffy, creamy, heavenly cheesecake (I can make a good cheesecake! It may crack, but its good!) yet this was more dry and almost mealy in texture. Id have been content with a banana! The word creme in the description is misleading - its truly a piece of cheesecake with sliced bananas on top and then sugar on the banana which gets torched and caramelized.I had a hard time seeing how an item was described on the menu in its real life form; almost as though the descriptions didnt match what was presented - e.g. The Brie Bread and the Pork Belly. Yet it was still delicious. And truly, almost every item was served cool to cold. I said something about the ravioli, my husband about the calamari, the pork belly was odd to eat not hot....yet cold bisque was really disappointing. So not surprised, my garlic mashed potatoes were cold too. (Shrug)I dont feel the meal was worth what we paid ($270 including tip) and I was really disappointed in the temperature of all our food; whether it was a long way from kitchen to table, the cold temperature inside the restaurant, or both Ive no idea. Maybe it sat for a while before someone was able to serve it to us? But I felt it was unacceptable for almost all of our food to be cool to cold.
Asian Market
2425 McHenry Ave Suite A, Modesto, CA 95350, United States
It was my second time going to this store the other day. At first visit I was not very happy because the cashier double scan my garlic I'm glad I was paying attention on what she's doing and told her I only have 1 garlic so she cancel the other one. But the second visit which is the other day I purchased magicare sanitizing wipes 100 pcs and I sure check the price it was $3.99 do I purchase 2 of them. And when I get home I check my receipt I was shock they charged me $12+. So to make sure that the price was $3.99 I call them first and I talk to the guy and he confirm it was 3.99. And I said okay because I purchased yesterday and they charged me $12 and some change. And when I said that he said he gonna double check and when he comeback he said to me it was $6 something I was like what the heck. So today I return the wipes and I Check the price I was surprised the take the price down. So guys just watch out they might do it to you too. I know it's not much but if they do that to all their customers then it's bad. they are cheating on there price.
Pho Bac Noodle Palace
1100 McHenry Ave, Modesto, CA 95350, United States
The food is always awesome.I used to get pork blood in my chicken pho, but now I mostly get spring rolls and combination beef phoThe service is always weird.Sometimes you get someone that speaks a little bit of English, and sometimes you get someone that just points out, says one or two words. Tell them the number on the menu connected to the food words. Do not ask them questions. And do not send food back. You will give them a meltdown. I have seen it before. Ive never done it, but Ive seen other people do it before, like its their first time in the world. And talking louder and slower doesnt help them understand anything youre saying. Again, I dont do it, but Ive seen some people in our community doing it, and it makes me sad. But just to be clear, there also only advertising that they are hiring in Korean, so if you dont know Korean, they probably arent going to hire you.The atmosphere is always bare bones...Vibe: a soup kitchen in Korea. The tables have been there since they opened, and you can tell by the way they are worn out that some of the employees have used the wrong chemicals LOL, but I have never gotten sick. This isnt a place to bring a first date unless you are really trying to see how Posh they are. This place is not fancy it is just for eating it is not for social media pictures, and it is not for food vlogging. It is defined as one of the most popular car washes and chicken noodle soup spots in Modesto.
Crawfish Noodle & Grill
2312 McHenry Ave, Modesto, CA 95350, United States
This place is absolutely phenomenal. First person we saw was the owner who was very nice and Immedietly asked if he had any questions about the menu. My grandmother, who was with us, is a little hard of hearing is quite old school and didnt know many of the foods even the cajun stuff but the owner patiently explained everything to her. In case you dont already know this place is a combination of Vietnamese and cajun and unlike like most joint restaurants this place does it right. My sister got freshly breaded shrimp and fries both of which were excelent and very fresh. My grandmother got a noodle bowl filled with shrimp beef and many other things which was also great and I myself got the combo number one which is crawfish shrimp with side dishes potatoes sausage corn and bread. I had never eaten crawfish and asked the owner how to eat it and she not only told me how to but gave me a step-by-step and was very polite and informitive the whole time. Out of the three spice options (Mild, Medium, and Spicy) I got the spicy which the owner Warned me was very brave to do I myself didnt think it was that hot but then again I really like spicy food and have grown fairly resistant to it. When she found I didnt find it thats spicy she told me there was an extra spicy option available that wasnt on menu so if you like spice like me, its a good thing to try. I will be recommending this place to everybody from now on.
