KBOP Korean Kitchen
446 W Huntington Dr, Monrovia, CA 91016, United States
Finally tried this local fast casual Korean restaurant that recently opened in the area. Their food is so delicious and I love that they have a variety of quality dishes to choose from. They have everything from healthy fresh bowls to bulgogi fries and Korean fried chicken. The fried chicken is so crispy and flavorful, I highly recommend this as a cheat meal.Other highlights include a friendly, accomodating staff and easy parking. Will definitely be coming back to support this local small business.

The food was good. I like the feeling like go to Korean restaurant in Korean
Noodle St
120 W Foothill Blvd, Monrovia, CA 91016, United States
I cant get enough of noodles, especially if theres a spot with knife cut noodles! Noodle Street has not disappointed me in terms of the quality of noodle dishes they serve. Ive visited their Fullerton location before and their Monrovia location is definitely larger in square footage. Theres a massive kitchen window where youre able to witness the chefs kneading, pulling, twisting, and cutting your noodles. You know its fresh when you see them at work with the dough and not the frozen kind. This time around, I opted to their their Korean Jajang with knife cut noodles. Ordinarily, Jajang noodles should be served with non-knife cut noodles but I wanted to see if there was any difference. Youll first notice that its harder to grab your noodles and eat with the sauce. I had noodles with the jajang sauce whiplash and my face ends up covered in sauce. The taste though was still good but Id prefer to get it at traditional Korean restaurants. We also ordered their XLB and scallion pancake. The skin of the XLB is kind of thick so dont be expecting Din Tai Fungs style. The pancakes were pretty good and it had a nice crispiness to it. Some places always make it without that crisp but its the crispiness that makes it ten times better, plus the dough consistency.
Basin 141 Social Bar & Kitchen

Great Happy Hour prices! We got the Pork Belly, Chicken, Potato, and Carnitas Tacos, each $4. They added some great toppings to complement each meat. Like Corn, Cactus, Pinapple, etc., depending on the meat. They offer a Sofrito (Tofu) Taco as well, that we did not order. Each came with great salsa and sauces.Garlic Fries and Onion Ring Appetizers came in hot and had some ketchup and another creamy sauce of which I cant remember the name, but excellent. The Garlic on the Fries was plentiful and not overwhelming, we put the pile of garlic chunks that fell to the bottom on the cup on top of the non garlic Fries and like water on a Gremlin, we made more delicious Garlic Fries! The Seared Ahi Tuna Salad was great after we asked for additional dressing, but try it the way it is served. It is very good. We just like a lot of dressings and sauces. The fish served with the Fish N Chips was cooked perfectly. It was flakey, tender, and hot. I believe the cooking oil was due to be changed, and you can judge by the color of the batter on the Onion Rings and Fish. But, any great high volume Fish N Chips joint does serve theirs less golden and darker in color. So you be the judge. The Happy Hour Old Fashioned comes with Evan Williams for $8. I asked for Bulleit, that was $12.50.The Pear Cider and Moscow Mule were like most places.Ill give it a 4 Star for it being the ever crucial first visit impressions. The Staff was great, friendly and professional. They all help, youre not assigned a single Server.Well visit again and try different plates to get an overall opinion. But definitely worth the visit.
Nano Cafe
441 W Duarte Rd, Monrovia, CA 91016, United States
The reviews for Nano have always seemed to be very positive, and seeing as how they had Eggs Benedict on their menus - I thought Id take my parents to try out their dishes. Unfortunately, this was the first time my dad had Eggs Benedict, and he left with a very bad overall impression of the popular breakfast dish.Nano Café seems to be a house turned café - there are lots of tables in the front of the restaurant, but we were taken to the back - walked past the kitchen - where there were additional tables. Some waitresses seemed very friendly, but our waitress seemed to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed. But, no matter since we were here for the food, not the service. My dad wanted to try the Eggs Benedict and I decided to try the Eggs Florentine. That was mistake number 1 and 2. I should not have ordered the Eggs Florentine, especially after my dad had decided to go for the Eggs Benedict! When both dishes came out, they looked quite similar. The only difference is that my dish has turkey and spinach while my dads has ham. What completes an Eggs Benedict dish is the Hollandaise sauce. Unfortunately, the sauce was sour - like it was going bad! My dad asked me if this was what Hollandaise sauce is supposed to taste like. No, its not! The turkey was dry, and the spinach mixed with the overall sauce just made the overall dish taste bad. I only finished half of my dish. And there wasnt anybody to finish the other half. My dads dish tasted no better than mine. In fact, his dish had the sauce directly on the eggs and the muffin. Mine had the sauce on the dish - I guess they missed the muffin. We left with a bad experience of Eggs Benedict. My sister ordered waffles with eggs and bacon, a much safer and better tasting dish. The waffle tasted as expected. Not too sweet, but with butter and syrup, was good. Both of the Eggs Benedict dishes came with hash browns, which were crispy and tasty.Nano Café is definitely a brunch place that people should try, but I would not recommend the Eggs Benedict or Florentine. Their fried chicken and waffles or French toast looked much more popular! We also ordered orange juice, which was very pricey. Lots of parking in their lot.
Kiku Sushi
670 W Huntington Dr, Monrovia, CA 91016, United States
Oh my god... who knew that there would be such a hidden gem in Arcadia/Monrovia? Maybe most of you guys know this place, but I live about 20 minutes away (Pasadena) and was recommended here by a regular. (they said owner has been changed only about 10 month ago) We sat at the bar and ordered only sushi, so I would not know about the cooked, regular food. It is a straight up traditional sushi joint--small and slightly cramped, but with the smell of sushi and a Hinoki wooden-zen ambiance! The servers and chefs were extremely nice, and Japanese servers Dwayne and Ian (Dwayne is from Tokyo, Ian is from Kyoto, next to Osaka) helped me picking the right dishes. As I mentioned their service and attitudes are always top notch and personable! We ordered:Seared albacore sushi with miso: The chef used a blow torch to sear, and it was dressed in some sort of citrus very refreshing sauce. I couldnt really tell it was something i knew, but the fish melted in my mouth, and the dressing enhanced the flavor to make it some delightfully creamy melt-in-your-mouth treat! This is probably my favorite!Uni from directly from Santa Barbara: BEST UNI I HAVE EVER TASTED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. You will LOVE this dish!Ama Ebi: They actually show you the energetic shrimps before the chef twists off the heads...then they stick the writhing heads on a plate and let you watch while they prepare the bodies (morbid, right?) BUT you KNOW it is fresh!! The fresh shrimp meat is sweet and firm instead of that mushy nasty frozen crap you get at cheap places, and the shrimp head fried really adds a savory flavor. I actually prefer my shrimp head fried, and i chomp the whole thing down like crunchy shrimp chips!Baked lobster: This is less saucy than most joints, which is good because its less heavy and not chocked full of mayo. The lobster chunks are bigger than your usual shreds and niblets of crawfish (Im comparing this to Gens from Pasadena) and the flavor is amazing!Crunch Roll: My least favorite, though not because it was bad. Just your usual roll...better tasting than most places, but I would rather be eating more seared salmon!Overall, amazing place for this location. It may have been enhanced by my equally amazing company, but everything was enjoyable and enchanting, and I had a GREAT night! WILL BE BACK! I heard the ALBAKANI is a must!

Crystal W. and I came here for lunch almost two weeks ago after watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier across the street at the Krikorian. This place has such a convenient location! :) It has a small seating area and bar in the front where you walk in, but then you can walk down the hallway and theres a nice covered patio area in the back.We started off our lunch with two glasses of their red wine sangria, which was fruity and quite good. I normally prefer white wine to red but since Crystal ordered this one I followed suit.. and Im glad I did! Then it was time to order tacos...(Esther) SHORT RIB TACOS: Braised Beef with Caramelized Onion, Fontina, Avocado, Cilantro, & Pepper Crema. Two tacos with chips/salsa and roasted yellow pepper.-- This was pretty good. They really piled everything on so it was a bit of a challenge to eat neatly but I managed it ;) The toppings paired with the braised beef well. I also enjoyed eating the tacos with the complimentary chips and salsa.(Crystal) ONE SHORT RIB TACO + ONE PESCADO TACO: Beer Battered White Fish, Pepper Jack, Avocado, Cilantro, Slaw, Red Onion, & Crema-- Crystals so smart--she was deciding between the Short Rib tacos and the Pescado ones and ended up just getting one of each! I think its cool that the restaurant will do that for you. Im not a fan of fish so I was happy with my two short rib tacos, but she really liked getting both of them. The food is a little pricey for me but this place is definitely a great option for the area. The service was great here as well. I would love to come back here during their Happy Hour.
Rubios Coastal Grill

Ordered pickup from their app twice this week & it reminded me both why I like this place as well as why I dont.ITEMS ORDERED:Po Boy Shrimp BurritoCalifornia Bowl w/ Cauliflower RiceSignature Beer Battered Fish BurritoBalsamic & Grilled Veggie SaladTASTE:So the food is actually pretty good here when its executed well which happens sometimes. But on the other hand like many other chains, its the inconsistencies & lack of attention to detail is where they fail.Signature Beer Battered Fish Burrito is my usual order here & this most recent one was not the best version of it. The fry on the fish seemed pretty old & also was over battered. I thought they forgot to put white sauce which is the majority of the good flavor but it was just at the bottom of the burrito. So the last few bites were the best ones.Po Boy Shrimp Burrito Im pretty sure is a newer &/or limited time item. It was actually pretty good & the flash fried ancho like shrimp brings a tasty savory/fresh flavor & texture to the burrito. Also the components were distributed among the burrito evenly. Id get this again & hope it was made this well again.California Bowl w/ Cauliflower Rice was quite a small portion & too watery. Ive made cauliflower rice myself several times & theres usually excess water after it cools that should be drained. Pretty sure it was the same issue here.Balsamic & Grilled Veggie Salad was also quite a small portion. The mixed greens seemed fresh but there really was very little of it & the pieces were way too big. Avocado portion left much to be desired as well. The lemon agave white balsamic dressing had a good sweet, tangy flavor.SERVICE, LOCATION & PARKING:Service was ok both times I went this week. First visit wasnt the most friendly while the second was more welcoming. It seems like the staff pays no attention to what side you select to go with your burrito. Both times on the app I chose pinto beans as my side yet they gave me chips. The receipt on my order even stated it correctly. Such a fail. They are located in Paseo Colorado on the second level adjacent to Cold Stone. There is free 90 min parking with validation but for both these pickup orderes I just parked right out front on Colorado & used the parking app. Its like 40 cents for 15 min & also quicker just street parking for this pick up order. Rather than use the subterranean parking lot which also makes you walk further.I eat here on a sporadic basis & will probably still continue too. Especially when theres a BOGO entree offer on the app like there was this week.
