Top Pot

This place is FANTASTIC. I went here for the first time tonight, and was just blown away. I had high expectations because the reviews were already so good, and they met them and were even exceeded.First off, the inside of the restaurant is surprisingly spacious, as well as clean and orderly. They have different seating options depending on if it is shared or individual hot pots, but all of them are fine. The menu is extensive and straight forward. You select your options using a dry erase menu, and then they bring it out. In addition to the usual hot pot staples, they also have tasty appetizers and desserts like crab rangoons, beef short ribs, freshly fried Chinese donuts, ice cream, and fried dough with evaporated milk. And yes, as many other reviews mention, the biang biang noodles are EXCELLENT!The final thing I have to really sing the praise of is the service. The staff member we had waiting on us was SO kind, thoughtful, and attentive. Near the end of the meal, my mom wanted to sample things so she was requesting single items. Like just one single fish ball, and just two pieces of Chinese donut. The waitress did not even bat an eye at these requests, and she did indeed come back with a single fish ball, and sample size portions of the Chinese donut. It was going above and beyond! She also made sure to ask if we wanted ice cream since it isn't on the menu and she wanted to be sure we knew they had it! I gave her a generous tip because she honestly made our night better with her cheery and helpful presence, and she even came back over and thanked us. No thanks was needed, we just wanted to thank her!All in all, Top Pot was a wonderful experience and I definitely plan to be back!
Uoyakutei Japanese Restaurant
4408 CA-1, Pacifica, CA 94044, United States
We had mixed reviews here. Let me start by saying that we try a lot of Japanese restaurants. My wife is Japanese, so we’re tough critics. I would eat here again if we’re staying nearby but I’m not sure my family would.First, this is really more Asian fusion (Japanese + Korean) than traditional Japanese food. The style of the food is not really entirely Japanese. Quality varies depending on what you order.I had the sashimi set and a mixed tempura. Both were delicious and the sashimi pieces were good size. The rest of the meal was not as well rated by my family. Chicken Udon was bland. Chicken karaage was more Korean style fried chicken and was just ok. Agadashi tofu was just ok. We didn’t try the sushi rolls.Service was just ok. Nothing really bad to say but nothing really good either. Our food came out as expected but beyond that there wasn’t much to say.
Grand HotPot
452 Manor Plaza, Pacifica, CA 94044, United States
Located in a strip mall with Safeway is Grand Hot Pot. What's special about this place is that it has private karaoke rooms where you can enjoy your hot pot and singing at the same time in the VIP Rooms with a flat rate of $35.99 per person. Otherwise it's $21.99 from 12-4pm and $30.99 from 4-11pm for regular dining. There's also an electric mah jong table that shuffles the times for you!We did the VIP karaoke rooms. It fits 4 pots to a table. Each pot has a divider where you can pick two different broths if you like. We did house original and house spicy. The house spicy had more flavor than original and it wasn't spicy.Favorite meats would be the fatty beef. It's thin, fatty, and tender. Their steamed Shanghai dumplings were also good. Had the soup broth inside and made the entire filling juicy. The honey glazed prawns is a must order. They are large and not bad. Wish it had walnuts. For drinks, you can help yourself. Options like coke, sprite, soy bean, lychee, guava, grass jelly, etc. Same with desserts, you can help yourself to the ice cream. For the price that we paid, I would say quality was great, service was on point and having beverages and ice cream at your disposal was a plus.I was hesitant on singing and sharing a mic but it was covered. I sure hope they change this out after every party. The tv monitor is just like any Korean/Chinese set up. It had all the languages and easy to operate.
