Singapores Banana Leaf
6333 W 3rd St #122, Los Angeles, CA 90036, United States
I am even surprised that they even dare to name the dishes original Singapore Malaysian cuisines. Having resides all over S E Asia, Singapore and Penang, I will tell you that besides obnoxiously overpriced, the boys that are running this banana leaf dont even know how to fried a proper plate of simple yellow Asian noodle let alone calling it Mee Goreng that have no spice, no taste and completely uncooked Luke warm noodles on a cold LA morning. Its seems that they toss the noodle in the wok or something add a few veg then call it Mee Goreng. Shameful.Satay tasteless, over-cooked dry to the bone. The only item even worth eating is the Peanut satay sauce, then again, I suspect its from a bottle from Asian Manufacturer. the way they cook the noodle tells me they dont have the quality to whip up the Peanut Satay Sauce, themselves. Please, ownership guys if you are reading this, please change your name and stop embarrassing Malaysian and Singapore World Class Cuisines with a bad name and false taste and impression. Very Sad, worse food I ever ate in my life

[Review from an Indonesian]There is a reason why you don't find many Indonesian restaurants in the States. Mr. Sate has unlocked the taste and (more importantly) the smell that come from hours of preparation, to release rich essential oil from tropical spices that will bring you to an authentic culinary journey1. Nasi Bungkus: it's the BOMB. The smell of banana leaf, followed by turmeric and galangal will hit you softly, even before your eyes can digest the festive you are about to savor. My favorite part of the dish is the fried chicken, it's juicy, flavorful and crispy. It comes with a lot of side dish (beef rendang, egg balado, veggie curry, sambal and chips). I wish I would have asked for extra curry, I prefer the dish to be more saucy then dry. Tho it might seem a lot, but none of the components overpowers the overall dish. Its nicely balanced, but is not shy to express the bold taste we have back home.2. Corn fritter: it surprises me for 2 reasons. Firstly, there is a very subtle hint of herbs hidden in between the crunchiness and sweetness of the corn. I think it's turmeric, it is not very common (at least in where I am from) but it matches the taste so well - again the smell induces your appetite before you eat (I am salivating as I type this review). Secondly, the secret black sauce. I will not reveal what it is, I let you fantasize. It is original Indonesian style of … sauce. For a new olfactory experience in enjoying a food, this place could be priced much higher!
Simpang Asia
10433 National Blvd #2, Los Angeles, CA 90034, United States
It’s hard to find Indonesian and Malaysian food restaurants in LA. We always want to find one to treat our Singapore stomachs. This restaurant popped out when we search. Super popular! We arrived there in late dinner hours and still had to take the number and wait over 20-25 mins to get a table. The food was fabulous! From the prata and pempek, to Nasi Lemak and Ayam goreng kuning, and also the cake and pandan cendol. Every single dish is super delicious! You just cannot stop eating. And the price is also very good. We definitely will go back soon! FYI it’s hard to find a parking spot in their parking lot, so FYC it’s still not bad to park in the street and walk 4-5mins to the restaurant ?
Mee & Greet
3500 Overland Ave #150, Los Angeles, CA 90034, United States
I was very pleasantly surprised by the meal I had here. I read a lot of good press about Mee & Greet, which is why I wanted to go as soon as I could, but still wasnt sure what to expect. Basically everything exceeded expectations.Started with the chicken wings - they were very tasty but ultimately my least favorite thing we had (not a knock at all). Then the garlic noodles - these were awesome. They actually had a ton of flavor compared to most garlic noodles, which end up being fairly bland. Definitely get these.Lomo saltado - maybe my favorite thing we had. Really, really tasty and everything worked well together.Burger - also really good. the onion compote (or whatever it was) gave it a really good flavor that was something new compared to your standard cali burger.Hainan chicken - definitely very tasty. the rice with it was really good as well, and the sauces on the side is what put it over the top.Tom rang muoi - very good fried prawns. Really interesting crust on them that gave it a very unique flavor. Very different from the other dishes we had and I really liked that.Music - really great music and its nice to go somewhere that you can actually hear yourself think, but I also feel they could turn it up a notch (I never thought Id say this about a new restaurant!). Theyre playing great tunes but you can barely hear them.Overall a great time with great food and company. the service was incredibly friendly as well. excited to go back and see if they add anything new to the menu!
Little Sister DTLA
523 W 7th St, Los Angeles, CA 90017, United States
I was going to give it 1 star but giving them 2, only because the manager handled the worst situation professionally and properly.I came here once before with a friend and thought the food was good, so I came back the week after to have my partner try it out since I had raved about it. I was excited to have possibly find my go-to Vietnamese spot since recently moving back. Sadly my 2nd experience here was awful. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. Our waiter was incredibly unprofessional as soon as we were seated. I understand that the staff have good days and bad days. The waiter was about to take our order but the table across the room were needing help and in an annoyed tone, the waiter told him across the room to hang on and he'll be right there. The annoyed waiter continued to make a rude remark about the customer and huffed while rolling his eyes. Whatever, not my problem. We continued to finish putting our order in. He read back our order and our order was incorrect. So I told him once more what our order was. Felt a bit of weird energy but decided to ignore the situation. Our salad rolls arrived first. Then 10 mins later, my partners' main entree arrived. 15 minutes go by and my entree & our 2nd appetizer wasn't coming out. I asked a different waiter who was passing by if the rest of the order was coming soon. He went to check our order ticket and he told me that only the salad rolls and my partners entree were the only 2 items listed. I was floored. I corrected him on our order the first time and he still had put the wrong order. At this point, I had been sitting at the restaurant for an extended amount of time without my meal. Our original waiter came back to see what the issue was and he quickly put the order in. The remaining 2 dishes were made in a rush then delivered to us in a rush. The waiter didn't warn me that the serving plate was piping hot and when I went to move the plate, I burned my hand pretty bad. It might be the worst burn I've experienced. At this point I was livid and in near tears. Hungry, lost every ounce of patience, pissed and now burned. Just awful. The manager came over and helped assess the situation immediately and went above and beyond — which I appreciate. Soon after the waiter came over to give his empty apology. And that's the end of that.Whole situation sucks, I won't be back - but looking through Google, it seems to be a pattern in the other reviews about their shitty service. There's tons of other good spots in LA to choose from, just saying.
Hana Ichimonme
333 S Alameda St 3rd floor, Los Angeles, CA 90013, United States
Hana Ichi Monme in Japanese means, Flowers for 1 Monme. Monme, a small coin, containing 3.5g of Ag back in the Edo period from 1603-1868. It is also the name of a kids game much like our long gone Red Rover.Love the displays of realistic looking plastic models of representative dishes in front of Hanaichimonme which nostalgically remind me of many Teishoku/set meal restaurants in Japan. My waitress was cheerful, perky, helpful in determining what level of chile heat (mild, 1-5). If I liked spicy, she suggested a 3, but I thought better & chose 2 since there was Ra-yu/hot chile oil; Shichimi To-garashi/7 flavour chile powder; smoky, white ground pepper on the table which I could add in later if the piquancy level were low. Even for me, a person into Thai, Mexican, Korean, Indian foods, 2 was hot enough.1) Tried their signature Coconut Champon which reminded me of Malaysian Laksa, a pool of coconut milk w/ tiny beads of bright orange red chile oil floating. There seems to be a chicken based stock, Ra-men noodles, small shrimps, bay scallops, julienned squid, barely cooked crunchy bean sprouts, thinly sliced onion. If you drink most of the soup, there is at the bottom of the bowl rough ground pork oil sautéed w/ garlic which infuses a funky, earthy, sulfurous sensation to the rich, creamy broth. Excellent non-traditional fusion take on Japanese Ra-men.1a) Cold Yaègaki (yah eh gah kee) Sakè (sah keh) had a touch of woody bouquet w/ sweet toastiness countered by a refreshing touch of bitterness. Smooth ripe delicious apple tone. At $6.50 for a 300ml bottle, it was a good deal that paired well w/ the Coconut Champon.2) They were out of Coffee Jelly which would have ended the meal on a refreshing, low calorie note. So I opted for the Fruit Anmitsu (ahn mee tsoo) which has canned pear, tangerine, pineapple, fresh banana, Anko/sweetened, dark brown Azuki bean paste, vanilla ice cream, light sugar sauce, neutral tasting cubed Kanten/agar agar gelatin to cleanse the palate.Hanaichimonme is a sleeper restaurant. The food I ordered was satisfying, filling in a good way, tasty. Also what made dining here very pleasant was my waitress (photo in my review), who went out of her way to make sure my tea cup was always filled as well as having snippits of friendly conversation. Too bad the male owner is not as socially inclined to give a warmer welcome, but that is beside the point. 4- stars.
Pho Thai Town
5136 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027, United States
I used to go very often to this place because I really loved their beef pho. They apparently changed the recipe last month OR they ADD water to the finished broth. The broth has become watery and unflavorful. Me and my boyfriend both noticed the big difference in taste and no amount of lime juice could improve the situation. Before the pandemic there was more beef subproducts in pho, but now its only beef or meat balls. The portions also shrinked in size. I guess thats the strategy to keep afloat with the modern economic climate.I loved the taste very much, but I am afraid I am not coming back after 2 last visits.I do understand making portions smaller, but I dont appreciate diluting the broth with water at all. Its just plain wrong. The place is super tiny : your motor home is larger than that. Its very, very simple and plain inside, but its ok. Nothing fancy at all, but its not expected either. The place can get easily and often overcrowded because of that. I dont think its kids friendly for that reason. No one wants to dine in surrounded by a bunch of youngsters since they are nearly always noisy and overwhelming. If you come there by yourself at a night time, the chances of kids there are very slim. If you stop by around 5-6 p.m., you can run into a very unpleasant environment. The place is owned and run by a family, so no miracles. They survived the plan-demic, but the recipe hasnt.I hope things would go back to normal.
Island Pacific Seafood Market
20922 Roscoe Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 91304, United States
*update*The lady in charge of customer support called me back and issued a refund. She was nice.I will be trying their online delivery service again. I hope it goes well this time. Adding one more star**Online order was a sham! How difficult is it to get refunded for an items never received? I guess this is it. Very difficult.I made an order online on the 5th, received on the 6th. One of my orders was missing, but I was still charged the full price. I called the store to clear things up. They told me they were out of that item and it shouldve been canceled out and refunded to me. I shouldnt have been charged for that item. My expectation exactly. I was told the person in charge of the online orders was on break and Id get a call back. No call backs. Called again the next day or 2 was told the person in charge of online order was busy again. Well call you back. Again, no call backs. I did the calling again. It may have been few bucks, but my concern is I want to make another order...is this how Itll be everytime I make an online order and more items are unfulfilled, but I still get charhed full price? Its April 12 and its still not resolved. Ive been passed around to different people and someone who is waiting to call hr or something...been waiting on hr. Ive sent pictures of the online receipt, the charge on my credit card, etc. and still nothing. Their corporate office doesnt pick up, the email on their website doesnt reply back either. How difficult is it to get refunded for an items never received? I guess this is it. Very difficult. If the item is out of stock, it should be clarified online before purchase, so we wont buy the item in the first place. Its quite unfortunate, but I dont think Ill be making any more online orders.I dont want to go through this again because theres really no way to tell if the item I want is out of stock.I guess Google reviews is a good way to get to a business. Who knew.
The Westin Los Angeles Airport
5400 W Century Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045, United States
Ive stayed here twice and both times were disappointing, and I do not plan to ever go back.Recently I stayed this past Monday. I booked with a free night award worth 25k points + 6000 points for a total of 31k points. The free night award expires in two weeks, so this was my last opportunity to use it before it expires. Yesterday my stay posted to my bonvoy account in my app, and significantly more points were deducted from my account than should have been. Upon inspecting the app, this hotel deducted 31,000 points from my account and the free night award was NOT USED.Im extremely disappointed as the free night expires on Feb 24, AND I would not have wasted 31,000 points to stay here one night when there were other better options to pay with money. Also, i always try to redeem points stays in blocks of 5 nights to maximize their benefit. Essentially, I got scammed out of 25,000 points by this hotel and will likely lose my free night award as i will be unable to use it before it expires. I spent a lengthy amount of time on the phone with the bonvoy elite line today and no resolution was made other than they would escalate my case and email me within the next 5 business days. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!As for the stay, the shuttle from the airport was running very slow on Monday night. I waited 35-40+ minutes outside in the rain. I watched 4 Marriott/Renaissance shuttles drive by and regretted not staying at those properties as i waited in the cold rain.I checked in online, however they never gave me a digital key. So then I had to wait in a lengthy line with a van completely full of people. Nobody was at the front desk when we arrived around 11:45pm. I went to the platinum/titanium line, but one worker came out and started helping people in the main line and completely ignored me in the elite line. So I ended up going to the back of the line with everyone else as it was clear platinum status meant nothing in the checkin process at this hotel. I checked in in the app on hopes to avoid this line as it was a late night and I was leaving early in the morning and had a short amount of time to get rest. They gave me a lame excuse that they could not give me a digital key without checking my ID.The previous stay a year ago was also awful as well. I stayed for 2 nights and dropped off my dry cleaning after i checked in the first day. I asked if my laundry would be ready to pick up the next day and I was told it would be there by 6pm. There was nothing to indicate that there would not be laundry service over the weekend. My dry cleaning didnt show up the next day, but I was gone all day and didnt need the day cleaning until the last day of my stay. Finally the last day of my stay I went to the concierge desk to find out where my laundry was and I was told it wouldnt arrive until 530pm that day. I was checking out at 4pm and flying out of LAX that night. I asked if I could stay even later while I waited for my laundry, which they did allow me to stay in my room until 5. 530 rolls around and the dry cleaning still hasnt arrived, and they make calls and find out its running late. The laundry FINALLY showed up after 8-830pm. I was almost late to the airport. I was forced to sit and wait for hours on uncomfortable chairs in the lobby as they told me I would have to pay for another night to extend my checkout later. No meal voucher or any compensation was offered for my trouble. They wouldnt even comp the dry cleaning as they claimed it was a third party vendor they are not responsible for.I should have learned from my first experience a year ago and avoided this awful hotel. Beware if you decide to book this place. Customer service is rude, bonvoy status and loyalty is meaningless at this property, and they will scam you if you use a free night award to book your stay. AVOID THIS HOTEL.
