Zen Modern Asian Bistro
13510 Sabre Springs Pkwy Ste. 103, San Diego, CA 92128, United States
Have to admit a bit skeptical about what an Asian bistro would bring to the table but I was surprised.Food brought to the table:Spicy Salmon Sushi RollSpicy Yellowfin Sushi RollCalifornia RollPad ThaiAll items had great taste and were presented well. The only downfall of the meal was the appearance of the actual rolls themself. You can see in the pictures a couple were a bit loose however, its because they stuffed so much fish into those pieces. This place has Soda made by Stubborn Soda. I dont mind the taste because its made without the high fructose sugar and with cane sugar but there is a little taste that is off. Bench burger in Escondido Carries the same soda and Im often going back and forth to find one with a different taste. But after the spiciness of the roll that little off taste went away. The prices seemed fair and looking around the large portions offered where plenty.y wife ordered the regular size and half of that went home with her. She ordered a thai tea as well and said is was delicious.Overall, 5 stars and intention to visit again.~The Hungry Man~

Khans Cave Grill & Tavern

Stopped in for late lunch today based on good reviews here and elsewhere. They are correct! I really liked my lunch and the place. They have a lunch menu which doesnt show up on their website. I had shrimp with lobster sauce from it. Its sometimes a bland dish but here full of flavor. Not lobster-y, but very shrimp-y. Yum. There were over a dozen medium shrimp, very nicely seasoned. For 13 dollars, a bargain and I was very full. The dish did not come with vegetables beyond some cubed carrots and peas in the rice so the server added some broccoli at my request for no extra charge. Little dribbles of sriracha and homemade chili-garlic sauce served on the side were a treat but not necessary. The service was peppy and friendly. The decor is quite dated but clean and not unattractive. Toilet in the mens room very clean. Not-annoying retro muzak. Ill definitely come back when Im in the area again.

Pick Up Stix Fresh Asian Flavors
2019 Camino Del Este, San Diego, CA 92108, United States
I have been craving Asian cuisine since before Christmas, specifically Chinese food. I finally had a moment to myself and came to Pick Up Stix for lunch yesterday.Carla waited on me and recognized I was trying to figure out the menu and after I ordered something vegetarian, she said that I could order anything on the menu and get tofu instead of meat. She was very good, and very friendly!I was having a rather tough day and almost didnt stop in, had my dog with me and when she suggested I sign up for the rewards program I declined, but I will sign up now that I have free time today! But she made sure I knew it was available to me if I wasnt already a member.I was happy that there was plenty of parking closer to the side or rear entrance than the main one and parked very close to the door.It was very clean inside and including the tables and floors.Food came pretty fast and after I got it home to eat it I was so happy that my craving had been satisfied!I also wanted to make note that they have gluten-free options on the menu which is great!I am happy that there seem to be more vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options now than 10 years ago.I definitely recommend this Pick Up Stix location and if you ever order with Carla, tell her shes doing a great job!

Customer service is ALWAYS excellent…. It's the lack of SOME cooks who either don't understand or don't care of what MILD and/OR NO to ingredient items that were suppose to be substituted AND PAID EXTRA for. 3 times in a row now I wasn't given the proper order substitution and my Kung Po chicken was SPICIER THAN SPICY ?, which couldn't be eaten. We asked for MILD, NO SPICE and was told “No problem”. That was a waste of $13.00+. It was beyond sickening to even try 3 bites. I had a stomachache for 1 hour after those 3 bites. We would of taken it back if it wasn't for the fact we drove back to Temecula from the Murphy Canyon location and got home to try to have our lunches. PLEASE…. I love this location due to the staff's friendly service, but mgmt REALLY NEEDS TO GET SOME OF THE COOKS EDUCATED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT MILD, “NO” and what customer service means. Without this, it puts the poor food quality prep onto those upfront directly dealing with the public! Thank you!

Today I took a visit For lunch, I arrived at 11:30 I can tell I was one of the first customers to arrive the restaurant was empty and I could see there were no tickets so I can tell I was going to get quick service. I ordered Kong pow chicken for myself and spicy House chicken with veggies for my coworker. The inside of the restaurant was close I understand with the whole pandemic, so I asked Maira(cashier)If we can sit outside to eat she answered yes. Awesome. We waited 20 minutes we didn't hear anything so I walk inside see if my order was ready, my order was not ready. 10 minutes later I receive my order my Time lunch was over. So I receive my order In a to go bag, I walk outside sit down on the table to eat. When I open my bag I received two Kong pow chickens, I do not have time to go back and complain simply because we were starving and we had to go back to work. As I was waiting for my order earlier from inside they were customers ordering, two customer that were ordering while I was waiting for my order inside sat behind us in another outside table.About 15 minutes later the Chef personally Walks outside of the restaurant Takes both plates and serve them their plates. So I wonder why didn't they bring us our plate if we were new they were we were eating outside. The other gentlemen were wearing suits, we were in construction clothes. To me that was personal Preference from the employees which I do not appreciate, the chef look back at us twice to see if we noticed, we noticed and he knew. We had to go inside of the restaurant to beg for our food it was wrong order and chef walks out and serves other customers out side to be exact it's not the first time I experience bad service in this restaurant. There been time I've waited 40min for my food, two times I've walked in and immediately cashier says to me rudely if you're gonna order it's gonna take a long time rudely . I've already made a corporate complaint One with guest relationsSecond with general complaint'Office is in Laguna Nigel.

Bonchon Convoy
4690 Convoy St Suite 102, San Diego, CA 92111, United States
Overall good but not great. I went at lunch on a weekday and had the Soy Garlic and Spicy combo (4 each) and the seasoned fries. There were just a few tables with customers, pretty quiet. Service was good, they were prompt and courteous.Wings were good, better than at Cross Street Chicken and Beer (which in spite of many fawning reviews I have found to be underwhelming), but not as good as Furaido in Poway (best Ive had in San Diego) or the Korean fried chicken Ive had in Korea.EDIT: This just in, the chicken wings at Facing East are the best weve had in the Convoy area, closest to the best we have eaten in Korea. Not to be missed.Back to Bochon...they dont overdo the sauce which is nice, but the KFC crunch was just not as hoped for. The soy garlic were for some reason crisper than the spicy wings, maybe the spicy wings had sat around for a little bit waiting for the soy garlic to be ready.I also had the seasoned fries, and they were a bit confusing. Though they had what looked like a lot of seasoning on them, they were significantly under seasoned due to a lack of just plain old salt. They provided some salt when I asked and after the addition the fries were very good, quite crispy, perfectly cooked. They provide ketchup with the fries. I think they have an opportunity here, to come up with a ketchup\gochujang combination with the fries to provide a more interesting experience. I had french fries at a Korean-owned small lunch kiosk in Lahaina, and they had a french fry dish there there was created with a gochujang-based sauce, and it was amazing.Id like to come back to try a few more of their dishes, they have some interesting items on their menu.

Bonchon Village Way
6030 Village Way Suite 104, San Diego, CA 92130, United States
I am a big fan of this chain. My first bonchon experience was at the Manhattan location when I lived in New York and I was instantly a fan. I was so excited to see them make their way to San Diego a few years ago, and regularly find myself at the Convoy location. When I saw the Carmel Valley one on my way out of a doctors appointment, I was ecstatic. Happy to have one geographically closer to me. However, Im not sure if this is just a one-time thing and I caught them on an off day, or if theyre curbing their flavors to be more mild to accommodate the demographic of the area... cough cough... but my kimchi fried rice was BLAND AF. And my chicken was also very lightly sauced compared to how Im accustomed to having it served at the other locations Ive been to. I will definitely come back, but I will most likely ask for extra sauce and more kimchi in my fried rice. Not mad, just a little sad. LOL

Since my beau happens to be a Dane, we try and find good eats spots that are Scandinavian wherever we are traveling to. We were so surprised to find that San Diego not only offered Scandinavian food but specifically Danish! Woot! We were sad that they only opened on certain days and for even shorter hours on those days too but still we impatiently waited and it paid off.Husband and wife duo who run the whole operations like a well oiled machine, she foh and he the executive chef. Odds were stacked against us this day because their supply deliveries were late plus since he was only the first day of their own work week, a lot of the things we wanted to try we couldnt and though I promised to return the same week, I didnt have a chance. But that just leaves me space to come back!So ordered all that was available at the moment on the menu and I was looked at skeptically and said it would be too much... Oh yee of little faith... Thats what take out containers are for post meal! We were given a little amuse bouche of their wonderful housemade Danish rye bread with their housemade rødkål aka braised red cabbage, and a Danes favorite condiment, roumalade. OMG that bread.... Cold fermented starter begins their process of making this bread, produces this not bitter, nutty seedy hearty piece of love. We loved it so much we flew 2 loaves back to NYC! Rødkal is usually more finally chopped up but their version was chunkier and rough cut which was a different presentation that what we are used to, still it was on point and very tasty! And roumalade is any form Danish style is always delicious.Their pølse aka hotdog brought me back to the very first one I had the first day I arrived in Denmark, all the great individual flavors of fried onions, rødkal, roumalade melded together on top of the red hotdog just work, so make sure you get it with the works! Their Hakkebøf, course chopped meat sandwich, is waaay better than any American burger. Come on its slathered in GRAVY! I feel like its a cross between a burger and a Salisbury steak and it was instant love for me. We ran out of time to dine in so we took out smørrebrød and housemade danishes with us and so happy we did! Portions are very generous for the price and all very delicious.Enjoy the food, meet the great owners, take home a loaf of their amazing rye bread and be a little Danish for a day! Eat local! Cozymeal Cooking Classes
501 W Broadway Ste. 800, San Diego, CA 92101, United States
My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Jordan at his hilltop home and kitchen overlooking the hills and valleys of Jamul. We participated in the Basics of Indian Cooking class, and I must say that in so many ways it was an eye-opening, enjoyable, and instructive afternoon. First, Chef Jordan is a knowledgeable and passionate professional who obviously enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience in many areas from pots, pans, and knives to the array of wonderful spices used in Indian Cuisine. Second, he demonstrated and had us participate in preparing several dishes from beginning to delicious end. The dishes were well thought out, all ingredients were ready and fresh, the kitchen was immaculate. The meal itself was absolutely delicious. Chef Jordan is engaging and personable, and we will certainly return for other classes.

Grains

I am by no means a vegan or vegetarian. Hell, I rarely practice meatless Mondays. However, I dont think you have to be or do any of those things to thoroughly enjoy a meal at Grains—a vegan & vegetarian restaurant with a Thai twist.Grains is currently in its soft opening phase (the owner said they were looking to fully open in April/May). The decor is rustic, bright, and welcoming, as are the owner and the chef. They currently have about 20 beers on tap and are looking to swap out a few of the beers for local San Diego brews. Anyway, on to the food!We had the salt & pepper calamari mushroom with house spicy sauce (I honestly couldnt tell the difference. It tasted JUST like calamari and had a nice, spicy kick!), the garlic potato wedges (simple, tasty, and not greasy), the house salad (Im not a kale girl, but this salad was my absolute favorite! Kale, spring lettuce, roasted almonds, sun-dried cranberries, and a caper vinaigrette—yuuuum), pan-seared quinoa fettuccine (this isnt a Fettuccini Alfredo. The noodles are covered in a tofu-mushroom gravy. Really interesting and flavorful!), and finally, the Drunken Angel (very much a spicy Thai dish, and super tasty!).I definitely havent been converted to the vegan/vegetarian side, but eating at Grains has opened my eyes to how flavorful, interesting, and filling vegan & vegetarian meals can be! I will definitely be back. That house salad is calling my name...
