Tasty Noodle House
2117 Sawtelle Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025, United States
Great location, service is good and warm!!!However, the taste of the food is just bad. Its completely different from real shanghai food. Also, the Chinese noodles are Japanese ramen style with Chinese sauce in it. What??? Also, the price is too expensive. The location is good and the service is very friendly (but the two tables next to me gave rice dumplings as gifts, but we didn't have any, so we ordered more than them?)Closer to home, the meat filling of the pan-fried buns does not taste authentic to Shanghai; the fried snail meat is watery and tastes like pig skin. My friend and I really haven't touched it since we took one bite; the cold chicken It is also very dry. It feels like it has been stored in the refrigerator for a whole day, and there is no moisture at all. Finally, the noodles are completely Japanese ramen and placed next to the dish. For example, mine is crab powder seafood noodles, which is a very ordinary Japanese ramen (referring to the taste) Next to it is a plate of so-called fried crab meat and seafood for you to pour into. The street food sells for $30 per person, but the key point is that the taste is not good. From a food perspective, I will not patronize it again.Opening Chinese food in a Japanese street is something we should respect and be proud of, but with the complicated menu and average taste, I really don't think customers will fall in love with this place. I hope the boss can really improve the taste and quality of the food so that it can compete with other restaurants in Japanese streets. Come on!

Delicious authentic Chinese food. An Iranian Jew bought the place, made it Kosher, and retained the original Chinese chefs. I believe it is co owned together with one of the Chinese chefs.Prices were reasonable and portions were nicely sized. Great tasty and affordable place to go with the family and split dishes.Ambiance was very nice. Family feel, but with some fancy vibes.Service was excellent. John was our waiter. He was lightning fast and very sweet.I highly recommend getting the House Fried Wontons as an appetizer. They were scrumptious and had a very unique taste! The egg roll appetizer was nice and well worth the price for 4 medium sized egg rolls.Egg drop soup was alright. Had to have a couple spoonfulls before catching on to it. I dont reccomend eating anything salty right before tasting this soup.Chicken Low Mein was AMAZING. Flavors and textures were perfect!!! This is definitley an UMAME dish. Crunchy bean sprouts and yummy green onions. Savory mushroom and juicy delicious chicken. An absoutley tantilizing menu item. They even have an entire menu of alocohlic drinks! Strawberry daqueri was spectacular, garnished with beautiful mint. And the House Sake was super interesting! Must be prepared for a novel tastebud experience. And its pretty strong. Beware if you are driving!Highly recommend this place.

If you ever pass by this restaurant, youll notice a long line. Once you eat here, you know why!The interior has a rustic feel with really nice, mellow vibes. Compared to how busy they are, theres definitely not enough seating but since COVID, theyve set up seats and tables outside. You can choose to take your order to-go and eat it outside or wait outside while waiting to dine-in.You order at the register and then they give you a number to wait outside. Once a table is ready, theyll seat you!We waited about 25-30 minutes and upon being seated, the dishes started to roll out pretty quickly.Dan Dan noodles- for something that looks like it has a few ingredients-- THE FLAVOR IS SO BOMB!!! Noodles in peanut sauce covered in thinly cut cucumbers?! Omg ... one bite of the noods with few pieces of cucumber?? Has my eyes rolling back. I dont know why this dish is so good to me hahaI had Dan Dan noodles at one other place besides here and it did not compare at all.Beef noodle soup- the closest thing I can compare this to is pho but this had a more rich/concentrated beef flavor. I thought it couldve been seasoned a little more but the beef was very tender.Beef roll- cut into 4 pieces is another dish with thinly sliced cucumbers and beef!!! (I love cucumbers)If youre not a fan of cucumbers, dont get this haha. Dip this in the chili oil from the pork belly and you got yourself an even more elevated dish! Chefs kiss*Spicy shrimp wonton- I wouldnt say this is spicy but it is nonetheless delicious and tasty. Tastes like the dim sum shrimp dumplings.Garlic pork belly- I thought this would taste a little weird because I dont like my meats cold and this dish is served cold. But the flavor overshadowed that. The chili oil is soooo good to eat other dishes with. They have a pretty large drink menu!We tried the Taiwan beer in lychee flavor 3.5% alcohol and the yuzu sparkling water. The lychee flavor, of course, tastes like straight up lychee juice. It was SO yummy!!! I couldve had 5 more. The yuzu was strong and very carbonated. If you like yuzu, you will like this drink! Its in the cutest little glass bottle that you can reuse. The service was great, very attentive and efficient! The water is self serve.Also-- did I mention the prices are very reasonable!Parking can be tricky as it is street parking.I recommend going early/late lunch and/or dinner to avoid the rush!

Many factors come into play when reviewing restaurants, especially those with the honor of being recognized by Michelin stars. Service, atmosphere, taste, cost and patience are the ones I will focus on for this review.Service: The incredibly professional and friendly staff are there to make sure your time at the restaurant is a pleasant one. I could not ask more from my waiter who was not hesitant at all to recommend dishes and always sporting a genuine smile.Atmosphere: The restaurant is in a large, modern, open space. No matter whether you are in front of the kitchen where you can see the chefs hard at work or in the confines of a small booth, you will be sitting comfortably in a thematically appropriate decor.Cost: having been to many restaurants specializing in Xiao long baos, I have an idea of what I expect to pay for these little soup dumplings. The price here was a tad high given the dumplings.Taste: the soup dumplings, which are the main attraction of this restaurant, were good. The preparation allowed the dumplings to be filled with just the right balance of meat and soup. The soup wasnt oily, nor fatty but instead packed with flavor that complemented the filling. They were definitely satisfying to eat! Other dishes were simple, well presented and also very good. That being said, what impressed me the most from the items I ordered were their chocolate mochi dumplings. Absolutely stunning. Dark chocolate, wrapped in mochi and presented like a soup dumpling that explodes in your mouth filling you with happiness and forcing you to smile. These are what truly stood out! Make sure you order these if you like chocolate, I promise you wont regret it!Patience: the reason I mention patience is because on a normal night, the popularity of this little establishment will have you waiting upwards of 2 hours for a table. Taking into account all the previous categories, its hard to recommend this restaurant given the wait. The conclusion is that this is a quality restaurant that comes at a premium price wise and asking you to wait a very long time for a table. Everything is good, but in my opinion, aside from the desert mochi dumplings, everything is nothing more than good, just...good. Its up to you whether good dumplings are worth a 2 hour wait :)

Qi Steam Kitchen

We came to eat here a few days ago. The restaurant is clean and the staff is very friendly. We got xlb which were SO good! Im used to NYC Xiao long baos, which are a bit larger than these but compared to ding tai Fung, theyre a good size. The soup inside was delicious! We also got the shui Mai and bbq pork baos - both very tasty. I ordered a wonton noodle soup to go, and the menu showed egg noodles and Gai lan. However when I got home it was bok choy and lo mein noodles. Also the broth was not very good, full of seaweed with no resemblance of Cantonese wonton soup (which is what I expected). The wontons themselves were good, but I could not eat the broth. So instead I used the noodles to make cold sesame noodles.. so nothing else went to waste. Id definitely come back here and recommend to a friend with 2 caveats.. dont order the wonton soup and its definitely pricey for dumplings. The shui Mai was almost $14. For all 4 items we paid over $60 with tax and tip. Overall, we enjoyed our experience!

Mama Lus Dumpling House
700 N Spring St, Los Angeles, CA 90012, United States
I recently dined at Mama Lu's Dumpling House for the first time, visiting the LA Chinatown location. Stepping into the restaurant was a nostalgic experience, reminiscent of traditional Chinese family-style meals from my childhood. One of the highlights of Mama Lus reputation is their juicy pork dumplings, and I couldnt resist giving them a try. Served in a steamer, the dumplings were presented beautifully by the attentive waitress, creating a mouthwatering moment. The beef wrap, while not my usual choice, was well-prepared and had pieces of refreshing cucumber.I also savored the fried pork dumplings, appreciating the rectangular shape and crispy texture. Paired with hot chili oil and soy sauce, they were a yummy combination of flavors. The Singapore noodles chow fun took me by surprise with its rich flavors, enhanced by a touch of curry and chili oil that made it truly exceptional. The spicy salt pork chops, one of my personal favorites, exceeded all expectations. Perfectly cooked, they were light, crispy, and incredibly satisfying, devoid of excessive fattiness or greasiness. A definite must-try! The French-style beef, a treat for beef aficionados, impressed not only with its taste but also its fabulous and sizzling presentation. The roasted duck served with steamed buns and fixings was a nod to classic Chinese cuisine, evoking a sense of nostalgia. The garlic-flavored bean seedlings, a dish bursting with flavor, is a must-try for garlic enthusiasts, adding a healthy kick to the meal. The impeccable service guided by the warm and friendly Jack, the manager, elevated the experience. The attentive staff ensured that every need was met, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the visit. Additionally, the availability of free parking in their lot further added convenience.Mama Lus Dumpling House is a highly recommended dinner spot, and my visit has left me eager to explore their dim sum offerings in the future. Thank you for a memorable dining experience!
