China Delight Restaurant
40484 CA-41, Oakhurst, CA 93644, United States
Good Chinese food in Oakhurst. Theres not much other Asian food around, and this restaurant exceeded expectations and was pretty popular at dinner time on a Sunday night. We ordered the egg flower soup, braised tofu, stir fried string beans, kung pao chicken, and salt/pepper fish. Everything was really tasty. Would recommend.

Some local friends and I went to see the live band on a Saturday evening and enjoy dinner on the outside patio. It was so much fun! The Vince Warner band was great and the dinner was delicious! Honestly, being on the patio is such an experience in itself. It is so lovely with all of the trees surrounding you and the fresh mountain air to breathe in, while you enjoy your meal and the music. Lisa and Philip, the two bartenders, were both so sweet and make you feel like theyve known you forever. I didnt meet Anna, one of the owners, but Deb, the other owner, is terrific! She has the greatest personality and it really does feel like family when you are there. I am not a wine drinker, but my friend loved her many glasses of wine! They had a great selection of beer, some of SLOs finest! We will definitely be going back many Saturday evenings this summer!

Mountain Oaks Cafe

All the good reviews are justified - coming here was an incredible experience. The menu and the pictures online may not look so special or different, but the everything we tried here wound up being one of the best examples of it we ever had, anywhere. It also feels so cozy and homey inside, like a throw-back in the best way possibleShout out to Joe, our server. He is what every customer, and business owner, wants. Friendly, helpful, efficient...he clearly knows the menu inside and out, making excellent recommendations based on what we ordered and any questions we had. He was friendly and personable at the same time as being efficient and doing his job impeccably well. He was a big part of what made our breakfast here special. And the food...oh, the food. The tastiest pancakes I can recall, a delicious country friend steak that was also so tender, and so much more...we were stuffed and had plenty of food left over, which we gladly tucked back into later in the day.We will be dreaming about this place for a long time. Dont miss out!

We ordered the 4 course menu to try everything out.Broccoli soup- this was fantastic. Probably the best dish of the night. Perfectly balanced and really liked the touch of chili oil to round out the dishCaviar- this was good. Lower end caviar always is! Great value hereRibeye- this was cooked perfectly. I just thought the reduction was a tad bit sweet, which is why I liked the elk betterElk- this was fantastic. Oakhurst Grill & Whiskey 41 Lounge
40530 CA-41, Oakhurst, CA 93644, United States
Easy in and out from Highway 41. The meal we had, wedge salad, hamburger with fries, and tomato soup were made well and for the most part from scratch. The hamburger was a good size patty cooked just as requested - medium and the roll was just right. The wedge salad was from romain lettuce and was good. I like the added red onions. The tomato soup was rich and creamy. The spices made it tasty. The bread served with the soup was devoured quickly - always love fresh bread. The staff worked well as a team and were friendly and pleasant. We were treated to a nice evening. It is a restaurant associated with a Beat Western, so expect tourist, buses, and a few decorations for the mood.Overall, nice place with good food.

Sierra Sky Ranch, Ascend Hotel Collection
50552 Rd 632, Oakhurst, CA 93644, United States
Looking for a quiet and relaxing country get away from the city thats steeped in history? This is the place! Tucked away up in the mountains right off the 41 and just minutes away from downtown Oakhurst, is this little gem straight out of the old west. Before it was converted to a 28 room hotel, it was one of Californias first cattle ranches dating back to 1875.The minute you walk in, you feel as if youve been stepped back in time as you take in the beautiful rustic atmosphere of a handsomely decorated log cabin complete with a actual working fireplace in the lobby that the staff keeps going all through the winter.I was also told by the staff, who by the way are super friendly and make you feel right at home, that the hotel was also at one time, a retreat for military soldiers and a tuberculosis ward at another. It is literally just one of the last few hotels located outside of Yosemite which is a bonus! The southern entrance to Yosemite through Fish Camp is only 20 minutes away from Sky Ranch. Also nearby is another tourist attraction, Bass Lake just 15 minutes away from the hotel. The rooms are cozy and both my husband and I slept like babies! Most comfortable beds ever. They do have a pool thats open only during the summer season. Theres even a library that boasts many books and games for kids and families! Love that they have fresh coffee around the clock, plus hot teas and hot chocolate. A free Continental style breakfast is included with your stay.Another nice surprise was an outside fire place in the front lawn with chairs! You can simply enjoy the fire under the stars and/or roast your own Smores which the hotel sells and the front desk agent will go and help light the fire for you.Their restaurant the Cowboy Tavern is closed but staff does give you plenty of great recommendations for local dining choices. I was told at the time that they operate the dining room for private parties and events. It too is an impressive venue complete with an actual old time style saloon bar.Considering how much my husband and I enjoyed our time here, we will definitely be bringing our family with us next time!

Plazuelas Mexican Restaurant
40015 CA-49 Suite 203 - 204, Oakhurst, CA 93644, United States
Walked in without a reservation but the lady at the front of house said that a table would be available in 10 minutes and that we could get drinks at the bar first while waiting. Bartender was friendly and we got the kiwi basil and berry smoky margaritas; the first came really quickly but the second was forgotten until midway through our meal. Both were amazing though and were the highlights of the meal. For starters we had the guacamole (small, very average tasting) and fish tacos (good sauce but thick tortillas and dry fish).Mains were disappointing as well.Pollo en Mole - the mole was watery and lacked depth of flavour and chocolate, and the chicken breasts were absolutely overcooked.Bistec Ranchero - the stir fried top sirloin was okay but nothing to shout about, some tough pieces but alright for 20 bucks.Best thing was the Chile Relleno - a large cheese stuffed pepper, but even then it lacked a certain punchiness.Tortillas were twice as thick as other places in the area. Jambalaya rice was moist and clumpy, probably fried a large batch and left it covered to keep warm. Chips were also extra thick and probably came out of a bag instead of being freshly fried.Service was absolutely terrible, we were forgotten for around 20 minutes after we were seated, and when one server came to us he was so busy that he never checked in even once if things were fine. Appetizers were served together with the mains when we wanted them served as soon as they were ready. We still tipped 18% as it wasnt his fault that they were understaffed, but management needs to look into either reducing the number of seats, or increasing the number of servers. The server apologised for the lack of attention at the end of the meal and took a dollar off one (1!) of the drinks but personally that was more insulting than just doing nothing.Overall, an inauthentic place lacking flavours, catering to White palates, with the worst service Ive ever received in my life in a sit down restaurant. Avoid and drive a couple of minutes more to Ei Cid.

El Cid
41939 CA-41, Oakhurst, CA 93644, United States
Extremely impressed by this restaurant!! We stopped here on our way back from Bass Lake, and wow, the food was excellent! As far as Mexican food goes, this did not feel authentic, HOWEVER, it is very tasty and hits the spot when you need it! The beef in beef fajitas was seasoned well and I enjoyed it. Botana El Cid, which is the fancier and tastier nachos, was excellent. The meatball soup was… okay. Personally, I do not recommend it, but my taste buds are different. Overall, really enjoyed our experience.

Tandoori Express
40278 Rd 425A, Oakhurst, CA 93644, United States
I am not sure why, but I never tried Indian food. I never even had a desire to. I just always thought it would all be spicy or weird food and flavors that we do not typically eat in this country.Recently I was invited to Tandoori Express for a friends birthday. My wife, son, and I went with an open mind. I am so glad I went. Oh My Lord, that food is amazing. We love this place. It is our new favorite restaurant.First of all, the owners Omi and Vanshu are wonderful hosts. This is a family-run restaurant with Omi in the kitchen personally cooking this heavenly food. This man can cook!!! Vanshu, his wife is waiting on tables and going around the tables to make conversation and asks people how the food is or if we need anything else. The ambiance is very casual and very inviting. So, to the food…My wife and I have already returned and plan to go again this week. There is nothing on the menu that we have tried that we did not like. And most importantly, the whole spicy food belief I had. I was wrong. Every meal they will ask you how you desire to have it. You can ask for No spice (I do), mild spice (my son does), or medium spice (like my wife does), hot we have never ordered. We had an Onion and Tomato-based curry to die for. The mango-flavored curry is to die for. We had it with chicken, shrimp and lamb. The lamb is my favorite, it is beyond tender. Their desserts are so wonderfully flavored. I don't know what the names were, but there were these white balls, and then there were these other balls, warm and in a sweet sauce. Oh, the three-layer Chocolate mousse/ cheesecake type desert was amazing. We tried their Garlic Naan-wow, and we had what reminded me of Empanada type appetizer. It is fried but has peas, potato and meat in it.I could go on and on but you get the point. This restaurant is a hidden gem in the mountains. And their prices are affordable and reasonable. If you were like me, unwilling or hesitant to try Indian food, get over it and go try it. I do not believe anyone could regret it with the combination of spices and flavors Omi uses.I highly recommend that you give this place a try.

Vons
40044 CA-49, Oakhurst, CA 93644, United States
I've always found any Vons store wells stocked with crispy fresh vegetables, which is my fav section of the store and very kind and courteous staff until I visited one in Oakhurst just last weekend. My daughter and I decided to use the self checkout registers, frankly not for the first time at Vons, and it turned out to be a eveningmare (I guess nightmare is the word here, just that it wasn't night yet?). The system kept on locking us out and referring us to the staff, who was standing a few feet from us and could here whenever the Register makes that annoying announcement “an unexpected item has been detected, please remove the item before you can continue ....” and then it would lockout. Unfortunately it happened one too many times that the staff visibly and verbally got irritated by having to help us so many times. When we were done we apologized for bothering her so much and promised not to return again to the same store. This was said very loud and clear that even the other colleagues could here. Unfortunately that didn't seem to touch her either.
