Borneo Eatery

For those who think Asian food means Chinese, Japanese, or Thai. Well think again. Borneo Kalimantan is a great introduction to a distinctive Southeast Asian cuisine. I ordered Nasi Ayam Muda Goreng aka Spiced Fried Chicken and Beef Penang. The food served with spices that touches your palate like a summer breeze. The restaurant is quaint and small. However, the prices are affordable/inexpensive and limited to cash only. The staff has impeccable service. They play Pop songs from the 90s such as Natalia Imbruglias Torn. Overall, I recommend this place for Lunch/Dinner.

Phoenix Inn Chinese Cuisine - Alhambra
208 E Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91801, United States
We stopped by for early dinner at 4:45pm and ordered the Chef signature dish on the new menu: Cashew stir fry with chicken, Clams with Basil sauce and the signature dish boneless chicken.Waiter in Yellow shirt bought us the Cashew chicken, we immediately asked: where are the cashews ? . He looked at it and spooned a couple of rounds and said the chef forgot to put the cashews ? and finally found 2 small diced cashews (1/5 of the regular cashew) here are the cashews. We took a first bite and told the only waiter in yellow shirt that the tiny diced cashews are soggy and soft, doesnt taste like cashew at all. This is the way it is caused its cooked. he replied. Cashew is my ALL TIME Favorite snacks and entree. Its supposed to be crunchy and not diced up. Waiter in Yellow shirt immediately throws his NASTY ATTITUDE: YOU WANT TO TRY THE RAW ONES, I CAN LET YOU HAVE SOME ! THESE CASHEWS ARE COOKED, SO SOGGY. So much for the so-called customer service: I came here to have dinner, why would we want to have RAW FOOD, we dont want to argue and fight with you, please CANCEL the dish.we said. OMG ! waiter in yellow shirt then RAISED his angry voice and asked the chef if the cashews are soggy? Our dinner was already ruined by his non-sense and rude attitude. Clams with Basil sauce was also disappointing-NO FAVOR, just sticky sauce. We used to lick the plate for this entree...Old friend, since year 1990, we used to go to Chinatown, parked on the narrow alley, to have phoenix famous Preserved vegetable/ pickle and beef stir fry every other night. We go to the branch on Valley blvd. for birthdays, weekend family gatherings, new year and company party since it opened.Phoenix signature chili oil is GONE ! Entrees quality is GONE ! All is left with RUDE WAITER FULL OF ATTITUDE. SO LONG, OLD FRIEND...GOOD LUCK !

Lunasia Dim Sum House
500 W Main St, Alhambra, CA 91801, United States
Updated review:If you want authentic and good quality dim sum this is the place. Michelin awarded the restaurant Bid Gourmand and highly recommends its dim sum selections. It has been more than a year since we've been here. Once I heard the restaurant has reopened for dine in, we were amongst the first ones to come and indulged ourselves in the decadent dim sum and tea ritual. The restaurant puts in a good effort to provide a safe and comfortable dine in experience. All tables are insulated with wooden glass panels, providing a safe yet pleasant and comfortable dining environment. The tea selections are still enormous. I love the jasmine tea and the cast iron tea pot that keeps the tea hot. The dim sums we had were still very good. The only thing I noticed that on the steam turnip cake and steam noodle with shrimps were not as good as before the pandemic. The texture of the turnip cake very coarse and not as smooth as I had expected. Same for the noodle, the skins were think and not smooth. Maybe they need a bit more warming up as today is their first day of reopening. On the other hand, the steam BBQ bun and the sticky rice in lotus leaf wrap were divine. I didn't remembered these items tasted that good.Their dinner dishes are equally good. Now that they are open for dine in, we will be back to re-trying out their evening food.Unlike before the pandemic, parking is plenty in the parking garage.End of the update. One of three best dim sums in LA. Whenever I have friends from China, I would them here to get authentic Chinese dim sum. The dim sums here are comparable to the ones in HK. They also offer a lot more varieties then other dim sum house in LA. Must order their Bolo bun and cocktail bun. These are two of my favorite. The buns are so soft that just melt in your mouth. Should also try their dinner as well. They have many delicious dishes including their famous Alaska king crabs and Peking duck.

DISCLAIMER: I love mom and pop shops. This place is located inside a really small lot. FYI it is a bit hard to find from the street. But if you are around during the day, this place closes pretty early, then stop by. They got some good sammies. I had accidentally stumbled upon them when my regular viet hangout ran out of eggrolls.Lets get down to business.GRILLED PORK SPECIALNow this is a good sandwich. It has some sweet aftertaste but it is definitely delicious. KNOCK OUT! I will always order this sandwich when I have time on a lunch break. They do have jalapenos sometimes they just dont put them in unless you ask for it. I love that the have daikon in their house salad for the sandwiches. A lot of places now have taken them out to lower costs but having only shredded pickled carrots just isnt the same.CHARBROILED BEEFThis is similar to the pork special sandwich however it isnt as tender of a meat. Maybe because it is beef I dont know. It was just a little tough to chow down on at times.EGG ROLLSOne of my favorite things ever. I have an addiction. I will order twenty of these and just munch on them as if they were French fries throughout the day. They always have fresh piping hot ready to eat egg rolls. They do not come with fish sauce so order it if you like to dip like I do. Understand that you arent getting served in restaurant with the sides of veggies to wrap. You are paying for each one. Go buy some vegetables if you want to wrap.ICE COFFEEThe go to drink is the ice coffee. It is not overly sweet and it definitely has a nice kick to it. Nice pick me up.THAI TEAI am unfortunately not a fan of their thai tea. It isnt really sweet, they have to put some half and half in it or something. I wish it was better.BAGUETTESThey dont have the two foot long crispy baguettes like Mr. Baguette but it isnt bad. Grab some if you want to make some sandwiches during the week.ALL IN ALLCome in and grab something for a quick fix to your Vietnamese food craving if you are around. Just be aware that this place is a really small shop. Sometimes the wait is long sometimes it is super quick but there just isnt a lot of waiting room. So you will have to just wait outside. They will holler for you when order is ready!

Ive been wanting to try the southeast Asian food here for so long, and Im glad I got the chance to recently! They earned the Michelin bib gourmand award for a couple years. Theyre also all over social media. I think the fact that theyre so popular makes it hard to get seated here, and their hours were hard for me to work with (theyre closed Wednesdays). The restaurant is hard to spot because theyre within a medical/business building. You have to enter the driveway from a busy street and then right away make a U-turn to park underground. There is a stairway that connects the underground parking lot with the upstairs.I was here with only one other person, so we were able to get seated quickly. Between the two of us, we started with the roti canai with chicken curry (the server convinced us that it tasted better than the roti canai without curry) and the kaya toast with butter (again, the server convinced us that it tasted better with butter). Both indeed were very tasty. The curry chicken with the roti may have been unnecessary though. Then I had the dry wanton mee w curry chicken N1 $13.95. This curry chicken was delicious with the dark meat. I think they were very generous with the amount of noodles. My eating partners Singapore style hainan chicken rice R1 $14.95 was ok, she said. To me it seemed like there was not a lot of chicken, but it is their signature dish/best seller.I would come back to try their other dishes and perhaps what they call white coffee. I might skip on the toast in the future because thats not really a meal to me.
