Doobu
1723 Buchanan St, San Francisco, CA 94115, United States
It’s a small and cozy Korean restaurant. We ordered two different kinds of tofu soup, bibimbap and fillet. I don’t remember the name but tofu soup is a good choice in general when you don’t know what to order in a Korean restaurant. The bibimbap (you could only see a small portion in this picture) was pretty good, but the fillet was a bit too bland. Overall, I would recommend this place to people who like Korean food :)

Purple Rice
509 Haight St, San Francisco, CA 94117, United States
Been coming here for a while now and Purple Rice has become a go-to spot for a warm and comforting meal. Definitely one of the better Korean restaurants in the city, their soft tofu soup ranks with some of my favorites from LAs Koreatown. Solid sides and appetizers, the wings and the pancakes really stand out. So glad to have this place in the neighborhood!

Basil the Bold

With how popular Thai food is around here, I'm shocked I haven't tried a BYO (build your own) concept with this cuisine until now. I had a bunch of Basil the Bold's menu items for pickup and loved all of them. Like with many other BYO spots, I was expecting the flavors to be dumbed down a bit, but I was pleasantly surprised at how bold everything was. It definitely lived up to the name. The heat level is customizable, from “no chili” up to “bold”, and you can add on XX Hot Fried Chili too. I'm not vegan, but I enjoyed the vegan options as well. The crispy tofu in the vegan Larb the Laotian was my favorite of all the dishes.I also loved the crispy chicken with the tempura batter. The chewy noodles I had in my BYO bowl was nicely al dente. The side salads were super fresh, and the Tum the Thai (som tum papaya salad) is also vegan itself. You can get real deal fish sauce on the side.I picked up my order directly at the ghost kitchen location, and they are also on the delivery apps. The wait was a bit long, but it's new and just a one woman team right now.I didn't try any of the sandwiches yet (made with Acme Banh Mi Bread), that will be my lunch soon!

HULU WA CHINA BISTRO
3970 17th St, San Francisco, CA 94114, United States
Great Chinese food! The ingredients tasted really fresh and pretty good portions for the price (SF prices nevertheless). This restaurant opened about 6 months ago and its family run. Sarah, one of the people that started the restaurant immigrated back in 2017 to the city. She’s really nice and will tell you about their experience immigration and starting a restaurant business too if you ask. Their family runs the place! They cook good food and treat customers well.I’d go back again :)I had the General Teo’s prawns and garlic string beans which were really nice! They have a great selection of Chinese appetizers as well. They have a good vegetarian / vegan selection too, good amount of tofu dishes.

Ox & Tiger
552 Jones St, San Francisco, CA 94102, United States
I enjoyed well executed, creative pairing of flavors, and high quality ingredients in my takeout order during soft opening. The portions were generous for takeout -- food was filled up to the lid! I first heard about Ox & Tiger from the SF Chronicle article. I was sad about losing Tselogs in the city but excited to try. My husband and I did walk up and ordered two entrees with a short 10 minute wait. The mentaiko pancit made me think of Filipino flavors with Japanese comfort food with cream (e.g. cod roe spaghetti). Mixed-in surprises like kumquat, pickled onions, and charred oyster mushrooms cut through the cream so it wasnt too heavy. The noodles were so delicious that we finished it while standing outside on the sidewalk -- couldnt even make it home! The seafood doria had two full head-on huge shrimp and lots of clams. The rice at the bottom soaked up the juices from the seafood and coconut milk. The melted cheese was mostly on top of the shrimp, so I ended up eating the shell since it was so tasty. My husband enjoyed sucking the juices out of the shrimp heads (that taste is a little too strong for me, but others may be happy to see head-on shrimp). The menu was pretty interesting and seems to change a little each week, so we hope to return soon!

Taniku Izakaya
1035 Geary St, San Francisco, CA 94109, United States
The restaurant is very small with seating for no more than 30-35 maybe.Staff is all great and eager. Very attentive and really cares about providing a good service while you dine.Ambiance: bright lights, about the size of a large studio, 2-4 wait staff at any time, good for maybe 1-2 large groups, might not be great for a first date (you can literally hear every conversation because of the size of the restaurant), definitely a great spot of a few friends to grab a drinkFood: I'm no ramen expert so I'll say that I don't generally love very oily broth. I've had enough ramen across the world to know that excessively oily is not something I prefer. Some oil adds great flavor, but when you start tasting the fat, that's usually where I draw the line (fat should enhance the flavor, not be the center of attention).I think if the restaurant focused more on just allowing flavors to exist rather add an explosion of flavor (another example - the gyoza tastes great but it's layered with kewpie mayo aioli of some kind which completely nullifies the other associated flavors with a gyoza itself). But that's just my personal preference than anything else. The restaurant is a nice, friendly hole in the wall that I'd definitely would enjoy grabbing a beer or two in the evening. Probably would skip majority of the food offerings though for now.

Banh Mi Crunch
646 Irving St, San Francisco, CA 94122, United States
I visited UCSF Dentist building at 707 Parnassus street in the inner Sunset area, the only parking I was able to find was a few blocks away by Judah and 6th Avenue. After finishing with my appointment I ended up walking around and looking for lunch. I came around into a multi cuisine area by Irving and eight streets. I glanced into the window of a small place with a few seats facing the wall and another area with street views. I ordered at the cashier, I paid and was given a ticket number and patiently waited for my tuen to be called. I ordered two items, the first item was the fried egg roll… the stuffed vegetable rolls were cut into bite size plaited on a bed of lettuce, with served with cold vermicelli noodles, string carrots, a spring of mint and a nice sweet fish sauce to dip your egg roll into it. The Pork Belly Bánh Mi was my second selection, by far the best rendition of this Vietnamese sandwich, crusty and soft in the middle french roll, it came pile with fresh cucumber, thinly pieces of sliced carrots, sliced jalapeños, lettuce, a few cilantro leaves, mayonnaise and seating right in the middle a large slice of melt in your mouth braised pork belly. The place Is very popular and they expedite the food on a timely manner.

Shabu Shack
200 Grand Ave, South San Francisco, CA 94080, United States
Myself and 3 other friends for a total of 4 have been waiting for the opening of this location since we found out what restaurant was moving into the space...And it didnt disappoint. The broths were great and t he spiciness of the ones we asked for spicy style was perfect (they even asked us on some feedback for sukiyaki style broth, which the server warned us was still a work in progress for the kitchen! it was still really good), the veggies and meats were fresh and tasty, the lychee cocktail I had was solid, and the wait staff were friendly!I hope this place does well, Ill definitely be coming back!

Taquera Las Katrinas
2426 San Bruno Ave, San Francisco, CA 94134, United States
I recently visited Las Katrinas and I must say I was impressed with the dining experience I had. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome and a welcoming atmosphere that made me feel at home.Las Katrinas specialty is burritos, quesabirrias and molcajetes, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint me at all. The burritos were simply delicious. They were generously filled with fresh, flavorful ingredients, and the flavor was authentic and satisfying. Each bite was an explosion of flavors that transported me directly to Mexico. However, what really captivated me was the quesabirria. This dish is a perfect combination of a burrito and a quesadilla filled with juicy meat and melted cheese. The outside was perfectly browned and crispy, while the inside was tender and full of flavor. I cant express how delicious it was. It is definitely a must-try in Las Katrinas. Also, I cant fail to mention the molcajetes. These traditional Mexican dishes presented in an authentic stone molcajete were impressive. They were filled with tender meat, spicy sauce, beans, guacamole and melted cheese. Each spoonful was a perfect combination of textures and flavors, and the molcajete added a special touch to the presentation. The service at Las Katrinas was exceptional. The staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes they offered. They helped me choose the dishes that best suited my preferences and were willing to answer all my questions. As for the atmosphere, the restaurant has charming decor that reflects Mexican culture. Soft background music and dim lighting create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It is the perfect place to enjoy a quiet meal or a gathering with friends and family. In short, if you are looking for an authentic and tasty culinary experience, I highly recommend you visit Las Katrinas. The burritos, quesabirrias and molcajetes are simply delicious and the atmosphere will make you feel like you are in Mexico. You wont regret trying their exquisite dishes!
