Pokez Mexican Restaurant
947 E St, San Diego, CA 92101, United States
Whew! San Diego tacos done RIGHT! Now you know you’re onto something when you find a hole-in-the-wall restaurant by aroma alone and it was well worth it. Nestled in a small corner of downtown, surrounded by a few other cool restaurants this authentic Mexican restaurant was just what the chef ordered. Massive carne asada and pollo tacos, seasoned wonderfully or try the really big burrito! We had a friend in our party who was vegetarian and they even advertise as being vegan friendly with a decent selections of options. Why can’t more Southern California Mexican restaurants be like them??

Lemonade Restaurant
3958 Fifth Ave, San Diego, CA 92103, United States
Lemonade is the place to go if you are looking for a precisely portioned and seasoned entree that wont leave you feeling heavy. I m a fan of several entrees on the menu, my favorites being the Hatch Chile Bowl and the Chimichurri Steak Sandwich. Their poke bowls are also delicious although the portion sizes force me to pace my eating somewhat. They entrees used to be paired with a side but now you get chips which I find to be too salty. I have never tried their Lemonades although it should be noted they offer several varieties as well as low calorie versions that the signage indicates is naturally sweetened. They do however have a really nice iced green tea that I enjoy.Although the food is almost always a win and the service is generally quite good I do find the dining area and the experience to be sometimes off-putting. It looks like it was intended to be an almost cafeteria style layout however often times there are boxes covering several tables that would otherwise be used as seating. The bright inviting colors and what would be a wide open space seem to be offset by stacked boxes, sometimes stowed seating and frigid air temperatures. The temperature inside can sometimes negatively affect the food temperature. It feels like the business isnt quite firing on all cylinders and I think the patrons sense it.

Pretty design and decor...Meets Pretty Bland!I have been to this fast casual eatery now three times and I always like to try and give all eateries a few tries before passing judgement. This restaurant is about to get my score and it's not good.Food 2.5/5:I always start with the food. This restaurant does not have very tasty food. know that fast casual restaurants are the craze right now. I've been to this restaurant three times and I truly wanted to like it. The food is health conscience. People come here to get food that is prepared healthy. I have no problem with that. However the portions are small and the pricing is a bit high. When I have been here the food did not taste very good. They have a cafeteria style set up. You enter the line grab a tray and make your way down selecting items you want. On one occasion I tried a sandwich and a small bowl of soup. The bread was extremely hard. Even with mayonnaise and some sauce spread on the sandwich it was still very tough. The soup was luke warm and not very hot. The only thing that was somewhat decent was the actual drink which was a lemonade. The amount of food you get versus the price is not comparable. Price is too high for what you get.Service and seating: 3.5/5The service was OK. The people overall are fairly friendly. They do their best to keep the line moving however it is a strange set up. There were times when the servers got confused with the items that we were selecting and it slowed things down. It is a bit strange because you should be able to move right down the line and get what you want. This was the case all three different times I came to the restaurant. The seating empty corner of the restaurant is extremely nice. It is very modern looking and of course is inside of a mall. The seating and decor is very welcoming and inviting you definitely feel you're sitting in a modernized upscale café.Overall this fast casual is very over hyped and overrated. It's easy on the eyes but not on the wallet. If you are truly looking for a fast casual and healthy alternative then head over to Urban Plates. Try this place if you like but I would steer clear.

Plumeria Vegetarian Restaurant

Located in University heights. This cute little vegetarian Thai restaurant has a local hipster vibe about it but not in a pretentious way. Im glad we found this place as I was initially having some struggles finding places in San Diego that had good vegetarian options (more than just salad) to eat at.This was our first eatery stop during our visit to San Diego and it didnt disappoint. Prices were reasonable and I like the fact that meals could be rated on a spicy scale. Note to others: a 5 was still pretty spicy and I am a fan of spice .We shared a appetizer sampler and then I got the pad thai and my partner ordered some sort of rice and meat dish. Both were really good. Drinks were also really delightful, as was the staff.

Sattvik Foods

This hidden gem is located between furniture stores and auto shops. I got excited after reading some reviews claiming this place to be the best vegetarian in San Diego. While I respectfully disagree, I welcome the slightly different take on Indian restaurants. First, decor. It has high chairs with high tables. All hardwood. You can rest your foot on the bar so it is not uncomfortable. Second, many boxed snacks and desserts for the grabs. Want some gulab jamun without the wait? No problem. Altough I find gulab jamun to be pricey (I am comparing to canned one). I got the mini thali to go. It came with wheat flat bread, plain rice, soup, palak paneer, and something called sev tamatar (like angel hair in tomato sauce). It was carb-heavy for sure. They were seasoned just right so I did not have to salt them. But I did not find anything tasting extraordinary either. Overall good vegetarian Indian food.

I really enjoyed the food here. Lots of great options for vegetarians and non vegetarians. Apollo Fish and Baby Manchurian were great. Dum Biryani veg and chicken were also delicious. The mouth watering Ras Malai comes with 4 pieces and it melts in your mouth. Even though the place was pretty busy somehow we were able to get a table in time. The service was great and food was quick. While waiting we browsed through the menu and ordered as soon as the table was assigned to us. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who is interested in good food, I wish I had known about this restaurant earlier. I was visiting San Diego for a quick trip so couldnt try any other items. Overall, it was a great experience, will return for sure on my next trip to San Diego.
