Simply excellent. Top of the list compared to many Vietnamese restaurants we have tried in the States and on par with some of the best we have found in Vietnam.
Boba Vineland
6138 Vineland Ave, North Hollywood, CA 91606, United States
This new pho spot is awesome! We ordered the chicken pho, pork egg rolls, & the 2 for 1 boba ~ Tiger milk tea and taro boba. Best pho I've ever had! Plus good portions! The pork egg rolls were so crispy and full of flavor. We downed the boba before we could even eat ? because it was just that good. Oh and the folks here are really kind! Open late too. I'm telling all my friends about this spot.

Busy Thai-Vietnamese restaurant with very good food and generous servings.
Summer Canteen

One of our FAVORITE local restaurants....not your typical Thai or Asian restaurant in LA...the menu is truly unique, and there have so many YUMMY options. I think it's probably majority Thai food, but seems to have a California fusion feel to it.One of favorites are the Tofu Fries to start (I've never been anywhere wheee tofu is prepared so crispy...I don't know how they do it). By themselves, they're kind of bland, but when dipped is sweet chili sauce (with peanuts and cilantro), the Tofu Fries are DELECTABLE!Other excellent menu items include: Ribeye with String Beans (small pieces stir fried...YUM!); Garlic Chicken Noodles; Thailand Yellow Curry; Pad See Ew (so?). They also have tons of delicious seafood options, but our family isn't big on fish very often, but or friends say the love it all.We eat here about every 2 weeks, and we bring friends and visitors all the time. The service is truly EXCELLENT! (Very friendly staff who know us by sight...all so nice). It's casual enough to wear shorts and a nice T-shirt or polo shirt in the summer, and most people don't dress like slobs, but it's definitely not too fancy.Overall. If you're looking for a nice local restaurant to add to your places to try, Summer Canteen is great choice. It's a great place to bring people visiting from out of town, as they probably have never had food like this before.
Groundwork Coffee Co.
11275 Chandler Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601, United States
Edit: My nitpicky gripes have seemingly been heard! The music volumes have definitely decreased the times Ive been there and I havent had an issue with getting glass and ceramic mugs when ordering for here. Though the prices have nudged upward a bit recently (following the NoHo Arts District tend of late), I still love my time at Groundwork for both a relaxing read with a cup of coffee and caffeinated drinks and conversations with friends.Amazing spot to sit in the shade on a hot North Hollywood morning/afternoon and sip some very tasty coffee. Loses a star lately due to the seemingly near-impossible task of putting a beverage in a non-disposable cup (Im trying to reduce waste) and outdoor music volume. Even when I specify it is a for-here order, the staff is sometimes in such a groove of making their to-go orders that they forget to give me ceramic or glass. Another nitpicky detail is that the music on the patio is definitely louder than Id like to relax and read to. But since its Los Angeles in 2018, all conversations in a public place must be held at a yell. ?That being said, this is my neighborhood coffee shop and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. The setting (a converted train station) is unique and welcoming. They brought back the Vietnamese iced coffee so I believe they can remedy my two nitpicks. ?
Sanamluang Caf N. Hollywood
12980 Sherman Way, North Hollywood, CA 91605, United States
It saddens me to report that Sanamluang that used be my favorite Thai restaurant is long long dead. Yesterday I was served the worst Thai food Ive had in years in a filthy place that barely looked like the old Sanamluang. The soup contained rubbery overcooked chicken. The Panang curry was more like a watery soup, some floating rubbery chicken, a couple of pieces of veggies, and a thick layer of grease on top. Both dishes appeared in 5 minutes. Obviously they are serving pre-cooked food. We tolerated the soup. The Panang l refused to touch beyond a quick taste or pay for. Thats how Panang is, the lady (who looked Chinese) said. I showed her pictures of Panang on my phone. She then made a call. Then still charged us $3 for the rice. No apology for serving garbage. Sanamluang used to be a lively clean place that served great food at reasonable prices. I took guests there. Then it shut down for a long time, way b4 the pandem, sign claiming it was being renovated but there was no sign of construction. I was delighted to see it was open again. But I found an empty truly sad shell of its past. Almost all the neon and artwork is gone. Seats and tables filthy. I mean some seats crusted with spilled food that I couldnt scrape with a wet wipe. The glass door just covered with stains and smudges. What a loss for LA. Menu still claims the positive media mentions of its past. A reporter should visit now and write a expose. I simply cant belive the A rating on its window. Yeah, A for metamorphosis.
77 Asian Kitchen
5560 Vineland Ave D, North Hollywood, CA 91601, United States
Love the different combinations of pho. Ive order togo so many times the portions are very filling. The Ramen however is too salty not a big fan, I couldnt even eat it. Still recommend if youre craving strictly pho. They unfortunately wont let you dine in for the Vietnamese dishes since its a hotpot/Vietnam restaurant. All Vietnamese dishes are order for take out. Sad.
