Koon Thai Kitchen

We came here for an early dinner and to try something new. When we walked in there was only one other group finishing up. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in, followed by menus and waters. We started off with the Island Finger Lumpias for our starter and then for the main course we ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and the Pumpkin Curry Chicken Soup. The lumpias were very delicious and tasted fresh and they came with a plum sauce dip that was good, but I found myself finishing them off without the sauce. Then my dish came out, the Pad Thai. This was steaming hot and looked very appetizing. I can attest that these claims were correct. The Pad Thai was indeed very flavorful and filling. The peanuts sprinkled throughout the dish helped to give some contrasting textures to help keep the dish interesting. Finally, my lady, who had the Pumpkin Curry Chicken Soup dish was loving every spoonful. It was full of cooked vegetables and squash along with the chicken. This dish was full of rich colors and aromas. The pumpkin broth was very good with just enough sweet to compliment the rest of the ingredients. The soup came out with great presentation, in a gold metal bowl, on a stand and then on the plate. The young lady who served us was very nice and made sure our water glasses were always full. Definitely give this place a try and help out a local business.

We called to order dinner takeout on Lunar new Year day. The lady told us it would take 45 minutes which we agreed to. Places the order and my 18 year old got to the restaurant to pickup 45-50 minutes later. While there were only a few people seated in the restaurant their takeout system seemed swamped. They stood around patiently for 45 minutes when i called my daughter and asked her to ask about our order. When she asked the guy there he made some snide comment about how it was lunar new year and “you wouldn't understand”!! He then charged her for the wrong order only realizing it after the transaction completed. Looking at the CC transactions this seems to have been done TWICE! Anyway, they finally got the order and paid for it 2 hours after I placed the order!!!!I can understand being swamped…one would expect them to manage it better (stop taking order, setting better expectations) but the attitude is unforgivable. On a pleasant note, there seems to have been some young girl who was bringing out the takeout orders who seemed very cheerful and happy to be able to help customers. Now to the food:1) the kung pao chicken was outright HORRIBLE! I have not had such horrible Chinese in over 2 decades. The chicken seemed like some mystery meat and the sauce was a sweet & savory mishmash!2) the fried tofu with vegetables was OK though a bit heavy on soy sauce3) the shrimp fried rice was literally some rice doused in soy sauce with a few shrimps. No veggies or eggs. Horrible!4) the beef with broccoli was fairly decent with decent quality of beef.5) the star was the boiled fish in sprouts and chili oil. Very good and large portion.Don't know if they were just having a really bad day and whether we ordered the wrong dishes, so I am tempted to give them another try, but the man's attitude make me reconsider.I will probably stick to “Sichuan Restaurant” on Camino Ramon in San Ramon.

My new favorite restaurant! Backstory: I made a reservation her for my Moms birthday because the food looked great online. Once we parked and began walking to the restaurant we realized it was the same location as our favorite Japanese restaurant that closed 10 years ago... like late father, grandfather, and grandmother had many birthdays, anniversaries, retirement parties etc. at this place and so you can only imagine the strong memories tied to this location. We almost turned around and went somewhere else to avoid all the feels of seeing our family spot of 20+ years really gone.Well, Im glad we didnt turn around because the food, and I mean ALL the food is amazing! (Ive eaten here personally 6 times since our first time in January!) The honey beef with a side of coconut rice is my fave... but Ive loved every dish Ive tried. My sister who is very particular about what she likes and dislikes orders from here almost every other week.We had my sisters birthday here in February and I think its safe to say we have found our new favorite family restaurant in a space that has already given us some amazing memories and I hope many more to come.

I ordered a k-cup, the chicken tasted great, this was the first time i been here and was pleased with the flavoring. It came with brown rice, noodles and salad. I dont want to give it 4 stars because the food and service was great but if theres anything I would ask is change the portions. The k-cup image on the menu, which was the more expensive bowl @$10 looked as if the meat portion was bulging from the top. The lettuce portion was probably about a 1/4 cup, and the noodles, I would occasionally find bits and pieces but couldnt tell really how much I had. Probably another 1/4 cup as well. Meat portion was maybe a little over a 1/2 cup? The sauces were bomb, definitely great new flavors i The rice potion however was plentiful. Again the food was great but it just seemed as if my bowl was made up of rice and the meat was barely peaking over the rim of the bowl. I didnt take any pictures bc we were on a road trip. Again the food was great but the potions may slow me from coming back. Or maybe just change the menu pics for something more realistic.

Have I mentioned I love to try different foods! Me and my friend was looking to eat at a place that wasn’t a chain type restaurant. And we passed by this one in willow pass, concord on Park n Shop shopping center. The owner actually works there and very nice and attentive. This I would say is Asian Fusion food with exploding tastes. Big food portions (I’m all about that) with the price that you pay. Which was not expensive at all. Their deserts are unique and several options for drinks! Love, loved it!!!

Not impressed. Went there today only because Kevins Pho Noodles was closed for Chinese New Year. The wait staff - 3 Korean women have never seen humans before. The 4 of us stood at the door for 5+ minutes, smiled, waved, tiptoed - no reaction. There were two 4-seat tables available. There was a party of seven before us; they said theyd been waiting for a while to be seated. Finally one waitress came close enough for me to sound out can we get a table for four, please? She stared at me, then at the two empty tables, stood there completely mute, no reaction (Kim Jon Un, take note: Invade S. Korea anytime - they wont notice?). She looked at me, then the tables...again. I said can we have one of the tables? After more blank stares, some older waitress yells something in Korean, then she motions to me and nods.FOOD - I ordered the Bi Bim Bap (Korean national dish probably). It was a large bowl of rice, a couple of thinly sliced meat, some shredded veggies, a tiny fried egg. It was dry and tastless. I emptied 1/8 bottle of sriracha on it so I could pretend it was edible. Not worth $13 + tax. Oh...the party of seven left before being seated - the nerve of some people! Been there once, 15 years ago. I couldnt remember why I never came back, until today!

Not a bad little spot for some Vietnamese food. We came here for lunch on a weekday. It was mildly busy but we were seated right away. The servers were very nice and brought us menus and glasses of cold water. We started off with an order of the pork spring rolls. It wasn't mind blowing but wasn't bad either. The portion was pretty good too. For my main entree, I opted for a vermicelli bowl with grilled pork and an egg roll. The bowl was plenty large and was filled with vermicelli noodles and a good amount of pork. The overall taste was ok but the pork was on the dry side and not as hot as I hoped. It was also cut very thin, something I not accustomed to. The rest of the bowl included fresh herbs and sliced cucumbers along with the traditional shredded pickled carrots. Overall, the bowl was filling but the it wasn't as authentic in terms of flavors. However, the menu is very large offering banh mi and pho as well as other noodle soups. So the next time I'm here I'll try something different. The service was prompt and quick. Our food did not take long at all to arrive. Prices were about average for a place like this. They accept credit cards and you pay at the counter when you're done.
Noodles and Company

I have driven past this place many times, but I have never stopped because I am gluten-free. This time I was so hungry I didnt care. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they offer gluten-free pasta!! I placed my order for the special which was pulled pork topped mac n cheese. We ordered the Thai soup as a starter, and my boyfriend got the Stroganoff. While waiting, a waiter came to the table and very graciously said they were out of gluten-free noodles but they had vermicelli rice noodles. I really didnt care and said, no problem. The Thai soup was a large portion with really nice, subtle Thai flavors. I thought the Stroganoff was good too, not over salted for fast-food and a nice creaminess. My boyfriend thought it was so-so. Mine looked like a bowl of shredded cheese, there was so much! I mixed it all up and it was very good. A little too much pasta to meat ratio, but hit the comfort food spot! Later the waiter brought over a giant cookie and rice crispy treat since they had to substitute my meal. It was unexpected and I was so excited! I LOVE rice crispy treats and it was absolutely amazing! The snickerdoodle was delicious, too. I reheated the leftovers the next day and everything was still good. Ill be back.
