Le Bambou
2634 Del Mar Heights Rd, Del Mar, CA 92014, United States
I wouldnt classify Le Bambou as super-authentic, but it offers a great mix of classic dishes (like clay pot fish, fruit for dessert) and homey fair in a way thats really approachable for anyone. We had the clay pot rice, which was excellent, the ground shrimp springroll appetizer, lychee, and vietnamese coffee. We also had another dish but Im pretty sure it wasnt what I ordered since it was supposed to come in a spicy tomato sauce and seemed more like a non spicy tamarind, but it was still quite good even if Im not sure what it was on the menu. The ambiance gets a 5/5 easily. Its laidback and quiet, with candles and low lighting. The goal was to find someplace we could have a quiet, slow date night with a nice glass of wine and this absolutely hit the spot. Service was awesome and it was a really comfortable experience.
PokeCeviche
901 Embarcadero del Mar #102, Isla Vista, CA 93117, United States
I am writing because I would like to complain about a staff member at the ceviche poke shop in Isla Vista, Goleta CA. Today, February 2, 2023 around 2pm. I ordered a ceviche poke using a groupon coupon. I was treated horribly by an older white man around his 50s, who claimed to be the store manager, because I was using a groupon coupon. He told me that my voucher was invalid. However, he told me that other staff members will accept it. I dont get it. I bought this coupon that says a miso soup, a musubi and a poke bowl. And he told me that I could only get one thing but then he told me that only for today he is going to validate my voucher. His service was poor and he was not filling the scoops with food and he also told me that there were no musubi takis, he just didnt want to give it to me. Also, I asked for half salad and half rice and he said I can only make two scoops of rice or salad. Also, he told me that he had the right to tell me that he would not validate my voucher because he is the manager. This man shouldnt be working there, he has anger issues. I was so scared of him and he made me feel horrible
Poki Bowl Aptos
98 Rancho Del Mar, Aptos, CA 95003, United States
Its okay but not close to Poke One N Half. The portions are a little small. The scoops are tiny. The staff were nice but very slow and inefficient. My main complaint with this place is that they are yet another business taking advantage of the whole covid thing. They still dont allow indoor dining and their bathroom is temporarily out of service I asked a worker how long it has been temporarily out of service and they said for 2 years, since the beginning of the pandemic. We need to demand businesses stop doing this or it will never end.On a positive note they do not charge more for avacado but they do for edamame? Thats weird, edamame is cheap and avacado is gold.Open your bathroom! Open the dining room!

MARKET Restaurant Bar

Would give this restaurant 6 stars if I could. One of the best meals weve had in years. It was like dining at a Michelin restaurant in a European city (which, as everyone who lives in San Diego knows, is quite hard to find in San Diego, even at the pricier restaurants with top reviews). We are big-time foodies, one of us with San Francisco roots, and have been lucky enough to dine in the major cities in the U.S. and abroad). Our standards are high, and very few restaurants in San Diego knock our socks off. This one did.I dont even know where to start. There were 4 of us and were still talking about it the next day. We shared all our dishes, so we were able to try a total of 12 menu items (between the starters, entrees and dessert), and there were also 2 amuse-bouche. Every single thing we put in our mouth was delicious. They clearly use the freshest and highest quality ingredients. Each dish was prepared with tremendous skill, passion and creativity. What we loved most is this chef obviously knows exactly what he is doing and lets the food speak for itself instead of trying too hard and covering up the natural flavors with too much pomp and circumstance. One of the things weve noticed with top restaurants (even with some of the Michelin star restaurants) is they try so hard to be different and ultra-creative that they opt for form over substance, and flavor suffers. Not here.It felt like the entire focus at this restaurant is on flavor and making each dish utterly delicious and memorable. What we experienced was one dish after another containing a delicate and creative mix of ingredients that allowed the natural flavors to compliment and showcase each other. The presentation of each plate was gorgeous too, without sacrificing taste.Another way it felt like a top European restaurant was the level of service. The large service staff worked seamlessly in tandem, anticipated our every need, were knowledgeable about the menu, made excellent recommendations, and without fail each and every one of them (even the people clearing our plates and refilling our glasses) were warm and friendly and very attentive. You can tell when the staff is invested in the restaurant and cares about your dining experience just as much as the chef. (Our server named Mike was friendly, engaging and highly professional. Every tip he gave us throughout the ordering was right on target, and he felt like an old friend by the time we finished the meal.)Other pluses: The restaurant is elegant and well-designed, with very comfortable chairs, thoughtful table placement, and well-planned acoustics such that noise didnt carry. Even the person at our table who has trouble hearing had no difficultly hearing everyone throughout the dinner -- and this was on a Friday night when the restaurant was packed. Also, the portions were large (so large that they kindly gave us to-go boxes and were excited to have the leftovers for lunch today.)All of us give this restaurant our unreserved highest recommendation. Its worth every penny. A night and a meal we will never forget.
Xin Cho Eatery
3545 Del Mar Heights Rd Suite C-5, San Diego, CA 92130, United States
We were traveling to Anaheim from San Diego, and my 4yo son really wanted vermicelli noodles with “nuoc mam”. My husband did a quick google search and found this new place and decided to give it a try. I had the vermicelli and grilled chicken bowl and chicken eggrolls; my husband had the pho tai; and my toddler had the vermicelli noodles with fried tofu (and his nuoc mam).Wow! Being a very picky Vietnamese foodie, I was super impressed by this place! The food was quick, everything was delicious, and we left with full bellies.Normally, the only tasty eggrolls for me are the traditional pork ones that my mom used to make for us when we were growing up. However, their chicken eggrolls were absolutely scrumptious! I was able to snatch a few fried tofu from my hangry toddler, and they were perfectly crispy on the outside, and hot and soft on the inside, just perfect little bites. My husband loves pho tai, and he finished his bowl in record time. My chicken vermicelli bowl was also great! If you're looking for a new Vietnamese place to try, definitely give these folks a visit. You won't regret it, and your bellies will thank you!* Also, the food was so yummy that we forgot to take picture before it was too late haha

Pacifica Del Mar

It started on a mediocre note. We drove into the parking structure and had no idea where to go. We found a security person, who was not conversant in English, but he pointed us to the elevator and pointed up, so we figured we were on the wrong level. By the elevator, there was a sign that showed us that we needed to go to the 3rd level. However, when we got off the elevator, there was no signage pointing us to the restaurant. We asked the man in the wine shop and he pointed us in the right direction.Once we got to the restaurant, everything changed. The hostess was very friendly and showed us to the table by the window, where our guests were waiting. We ordered drinks and the server asked if we wanted to just chill before ordering our dinner, which we did. We ordered the calamari appetizer with our drinks. It was delicious! In addition to calamari, there are deep fried battered slices of jalapeños and other peppers. As a spicy food lover, I thought they were a nice addition. The two dipping sauces also complimented the calamari. What I especially liked on the entree menu was a choice of half an entree for an amazingly low price. For those of us who don't want to over-eat, it is a great idea. I ordered a Caesar salad first. It was not over-dressed, but light and tasty. I would have liked more of an anchovy taste, and I should have asked for some lemon wedges to give it an extra kick. Then, as my entree, I ordered the sea bass. Oh my, how delicious! If I didn't know it was half an order, I would have never guessed. It was the perfect amount, cooked to perfection: Crispy on the outside with succulent white meat that melted in my mouth. It was served over sticky rice with a side drizzle of soy glaze and green curry coconut sauce—wow! My husband ordered the filet, and it was done to perfection also. He couldn't finish it all, so we brought the left-overs home. Our guests ordered he catfish and scallops entrees, and they were beautifully presented and delicious. We were celebrating 3 birthdays, so they brought 3 of their famous desserts, gratis. OMG, the Mocha Semifreddo was out of this world! The chocolate had to be the best we'd ever tasted! And the presentation was beautiful! The creme brûlée was also superb.I forget the name of our server, but one could tell that she was very experienced. She was professional and informative about every dish, and could rattle off a description of the dishes as though she were the chef!We will absolutely return, and I'll find out the name of the server so that we can ask for her the next time we go.
Bamboo Bistro
2600 East Coast Hwy #160, Corona Del Mar, CA 92625, United States
Bamboo Bistro in Newport Beach is a culinary gem with a remarkable history. Founded by Chau Dang Haller, whose family owned the famous Hoa Binh French boulangeries in Nha Trang, Vietnam, this restaurant is a testament to her culinary expertise and passion for healthy dining. As a licensed dietician, Chau has infused her menus with nutritious options that appeal to Newport Beachs health-conscious beachgoers.I recently had the pleasure of trying their Roasted Duck Spring Rolls ($8), and they exceeded all expectations. Tender chunks of savory duck with crispy skin nestled amidst fluffy vermicelli noodles, fresh lettuce, cucumber, and asparagus, all wrapped in pliable rice paper. The presentation and taste were outstanding. Two rolls, sliced in half, were simply not enough to satisfy my craving for more. While Bamboo Bistro offers a variety of spring rolls, including the renowned Ahi Spring Roll ($9), and other delightful options like Roasted Pork Spring Rolls and Grilled Shrimp Spring Rolls, I found the Vegetarian Spring Rolls ($5) to be less exciting in comparison. They contained tofu, noodles, lettuce, and carrots, but they lacked the bold flavors of the other offerings. Its clear that Bamboo Bistro caters to a broader audience, with a menu that draws inspiration from mainstream Asian dishes. While there are nods to Vietnamese cuisine with items like pho and banh xeo, the overall menu reflects a fusion of flavors that appeals to a diverse clientele. Despite this departure from traditional Vietnamese offerings, the quality and creativity of Bamboo Bistros dishes make it a must-visit restaurant in Newport Beach. Chau Dang Hallers culinary heritage shines through in every bite, making this restaurant a delightful culinary destination for both locals and visitors. The restaurant is easily get to which is located right on PCH next to Fashion Island Shopping mall. There are plenty of parkings on the street and underground garage.
Sushiya Express
955 Embarcadero del Mar E, Goleta, CA 93117, United States
Ordered the shoyu ramen with a side of gyoza (total was $30). Spending $30 for a bowl of ramen and an appetizer, I was expecting a lot more than what I got… Ramen was pretty bland and gyoza, although not bad, did not justify the price. The lady helping me out also didn't know much. I asked if any meat came with the ramen, and she said no. I then pointed out one of their own pictures showing meat coming with it, and she then corrected herself. The astounding part was the fact that they served shin ramen for $10… I asked her about it, and this happens to be the same exact packaged ramen that you can buy and make yourself for 50 cents a packet. If you are going to charge this much for food, you can make it better quality! I recommend to skip this place entirely and head to Nikka ramen in goleta downtown—you will not regret it!
Del Mar RendezvousMorning Muse

I have wanted to try this restaurant for a long time and we decided to go prior to going to a show in La Jolla. While the service was decent, the food advertised as Asian Fusion was simply average Chinese Food. For the appetizer we got the pork that was recommended and while it was cooked well it was bland. We told the waiter that we wanted a spicy seafood dish and ordered based on his recommendation. The seafood in the dish was a little over cooked and the dish was bland with no spicy element. For what they charge I wound have expected something much better.
