Galanga Thai Fusion
7440 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046, United States
I read the reviews, everyone says this place is delicious, what did I do wrong? I couldn't rate this any higher than average. I think a magic wok or happy wok vibe is present here. I don't like any of those places by the way. I'd definitely like to return and try something else. My go-tos didn't pan out here.A+ for timing (she said 10min, set timer 10min, as it went off she's approaching) and meal temp.Firecracker shrimp: tempura batter wasted. In between the sauce and food temp enclosed in a styrofoam container (imagine a meter), 5 of out 100 bites were crispy. The rest of the meal felt as if I was eating a funnel cake.Fried Wonton (minced chicken): clearly I misread this, I was hoping for a bit of cream cheese, so the error was on my part there. I wasn't impressed even a little bit. Nothing to be desired, for me. Chicken felt dry to the tongue and the sauce was more like what the firecracker shrimp should have had; as it had a better zest to it.

Formosa Cafe
7156 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046, United States
I recently talked to restauranteur Adam Fleischman about the Formosa Cafe. He said they are revamping the menu.Inspired by Beverly Hill's Red Medicine's Vietnamese-themed menu and bar bites, Red Med at Formosa Café features some of the most popular dishes, including dumplings, spring rolls, bahn-mi, brisket and whole fish to share. My eyes had to adjust quickly as I walked into the dark restaurant to meet a group of foodies. We frequently used our iPhone flashlights to read the menu and snap photos. The walls are still lined with over 250 black and white headshots of some of the most famous actors in the world. There is still a display case showcasing a collection of Elvis Presley decanters and statues above his old booth. One of the head bartenders, Billy Ray arrived at our table with some of the classic cocktails that have been added to the cocktail menu. Bartender Matthew Boddie created a ginger daiquiri a la Central, pisco apricot Tropicale and the Singapore Sling for us to enjoy. We were told that gangster Mickey Cohen ruled the underground of liquor, women and cash at Formosa Café. His safe was built into the flooring between the two front booths to the left of the front door.Interesting dishes include the entirely green Rock shrimp dish with layers of avocado. The marinated eggplant offers vivid flavors of garlic, sesame, and celery that almost vibrated in my palate.I enjoyed the ethereal Shanghai rice cakes that tasted like little chewy dough pillows dusted with bacon, shishito and Thai basil. The chicken wings are a Red Medicine recipe rolled in flavorful crumbs, fish sauce lime and Thai chile, that spices the wings with aromatic flavors. The crispy spring rolls are deep fried and stuffed with a healthy dose of crab and Asian herbs.Everyone at the table enjoyed the oyster mushrooms with crisp haricot vert beans, and a French chili pepper from Espelette mixed in with the oyster sauce.Large parities may want to go straight to The Group Effort column on the menu for plates of tender Wagyu Beef Brisker braised in a secret plum sauce for 36 hours or a deep fried whole black bass that arrives whole. The server filets it to reveal light colored and moist fish with a crispy crust. These dishes easily feed three to four guests. The Formosa Café is open for dinner at 4 p.m. until the 2 a.m. “last call.” Parking is available in the West Hollywood Gateway parking garage.

Overall a fantastic experience from start to finish. All of the dishes we had were very flavorful, and each dish was unique compared to the other, which is important as sometimes dishes at Asian fusion restaurants can end up tasting the same. Not the case here at all! A surprise favorite was the crispy crab salad dish. It’s prepared and tossed table side and the combination of the light dressing and crunch from peanuts, fried shallots, crispy rice and cabbage was so refreshing. We also loved the Kung Pao cauliflower and Japanese eggplant. The noodles were also fantastic, though a little oily. The star of the show was definitely the Peking duck, and it’s a large portion which could be shared with 3 people if you ordered small plates along with it. The cocktails were also legit here.

Fresh Corn Grill - West Hollywood

My friends and I planned to grab Sunday dinner at the Westwood location, but turns out that location is closed on Sundays! Luckily, the West Hollywood location is open and this is where my friends and I ended up. We easily found street parking right outside Fresh Corn Grill at a metered spot. Since it was a Sunday, the meters werent on and we got free parking.Fresh Corn Grill has you order and pay before you can grab a seat with a number. My friends and I decided to eat family style, so that we could try a little of everything on the menu. We ordered a salad, pizza, pasta, and 2 tacos plates with 2 sides each. The Fresh Corn Grilled Salad w/ Shrimp ($10.95+$3-4?) is a pretty large portion and was refreshing, light, and tasty. It has a mixture of cherry tomatoes, zucchini, corn, and various other veggies. I think the salad is delicious enough on its own and doesnt need any added protein. The Smoked Salmon Pizza ($14.95) was quite pricy for 6 slices, but oh so delicious. The crust is light and crispy. The pizza has a thin layer of cream cheese covered with layer of smoked salmon and a sprinkle of green onion. Its like a bagel without all those calories. The Salmon Taco Plate w/ Brussels Sprouts and Mushrooms ($12.95) was really dry and forgettable in my opinion. However, one of my friends enjoyed it. The Brussels Sprouts were still bitter, so I didnt eat the rest of it. I didnt try the mushrooms, since I normally dont like mushrooms to begin with. The Skirt Steak Taco Plate w/ Grilled Zucchini and Grilled Corn ($12.95) was the better taco plate, but again probably wouldnt order it. There didnt seem like anything special to it. The Grilled Zucchini was also underwhelming. The Grilled Corn was the standout side dish and would be ordered again if needed. The Sundried Tomato Pasta w/ Chicken ($10.95 + $2-3) was also really good. It comes with a creamy sauce and 2 slices of toasted bread. The pasta came with big pieces of sun dried tomatoes and chicken. For 5 girls, we were stuffed. We had only 2 tacos and 1 side leftover. Out of everything we had, I would suggest the Fresh Corn Grilled Salad, Smoked Salmon Pizza, and Sundried Tomato Pasta.
Izakaya Tora

Good Ambiance for outdoor seatings and a good hospitality service but food was over salted. Not authentic Japanese food, it’s more likely a westernized fusion Asian restaurant
Sushiya on Sunset
8650 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
Im actually so baffled after my dinner at this restaurant… I was honestly surprised to see so many positive reviews after my experience…It looks vibey from the outside and I was expecting to have a pleasant experience with my friends on the iconic sunset blvd, but OMG what was up with the service?? Legitimately, who tf is running this place because someone needs to check their brain cell count! First off, everything took so unbelievably long even though the restaurant was far from fully booked. I got the rock shrimp and the crunchy rolls and I was so excited and soooo hungry… The wait for the first wave of food (small dishes and starters) was absurdly long, but the rock shrimp finally arrived and was honestly pretty tasty… All my friends slowly got their meals, and I was still waiting for my rolls. Even when my friends did get their foods, there was STILL complications. The waiter didn't even know which dish was what and seemed so disoriented; I was honestly concerned. After another significant amount of time had passed, our initial waitress who took our orders came to deliver (what I thought were my rolls), however, we had to send it back since none of us had ordered the dish she brought over. We deduced that she had put in the wrong order, which is fine, but the wait for the rolls I actually ordered from the start was so long that all my friends finished their meals and it STILL hadn't come out. I just had to ask for it “to go” which was frustrating since the whole plan was to enjoy a nice dinner out with my friends. If I wanted carry out sushi, I would've gotten it!!At this point I was thinking, what's going on? They were taking forever to do each little step, even just bringing the check, and we all needed to return our rental car by a specific time that we did not make because everything was so all over the place at this restaurant. We all had to pay a hefty late fee for our car on top of an already hefty dinner price. We didn't get any sort of reimbursement at the restaurant despite it being entirely their fault they messed up the order. I get it, everyone makes mistakes and that was fine until I overheard our waitress delivering a giant sushi plater to this other party of 4 next to us saying it was ON THE HOUSE. I couldn't believe it. Like hello???Anyways, I'm actually scared to go back since it felt like I was having a stroke in there. I would never recommend this place to anyone I like or care about. Night: ruined.
Night Market Weho
9043 Sunset Blvd West, West Hollywood, CA 90069, United States
Night+Market WeHo took me on a memorable journey of Thai cuisine, with flavors that left me in awe. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience, although there were a few aspects that didn't quite meet my personal preferences. The food at Night+Market WeHo was undeniably some of the best Thai cuisine I've ever had. From the moment I tasted the wings, pad Thai, short rib curry, and mango sticky rice, I was transported to a realm of delectable flavors. Each dish was bursting with authentic Thai spices and well-balanced ingredients, showcasing the culinary expertise of the chefs. While the majority of the dishes were exceptional, I personally found the chicken in the pad Thai to be less satisfying. Taste preferences can vary, and it didn't quite meet my expectations. However, it's important to note that this is a subjective observation, and other diners might enjoy it.The atmosphere at Night+Market WeHo had a vibrant and energetic feel, reminiscent of a night club. While some may appreciate this lively ambiance, I found it a bit overwhelming for a dining experience. It's worth considering whether you prefer a more relaxed and intimate atmosphere or enjoy the energetic vibe of a bustling establishment. The waitstaff at Night+Market WeHo provided excellent service, showcasing attentiveness and professionalism throughout my visit. They were knowledgeable about the menu, accommodating to special requests, and ensured that our dining experience was enjoyable. In conclusion, Night+Market WeHo offers an unforgettable culinary adventure through Thai cuisine. With outstanding flavors and a menu that will leave your taste buds dancing, it's a must-visit for Thai food enthusiasts. While the chicken in the pad Thai didn't quite meet my personal taste, the overall quality of the dishes and the exceptional service from the waitstaff made the experience truly memorable.
