Sumo Japanese Restaurant
2009 977, CA-123, Albany, CA 94706, United States
I highly recommend sumo Japanese food in Albany Ca. I hadnt gone in a long time my friend and I went there yesterday we both really liked and enjoy our food we both got bento boxes and POT stickers, End EDAMAME everything was really good. There is street parking but sometimes it could be tough theres a small parking lot in the back yethat a lot of people dont know about. The staff were friendly and nice it was a pleasant atmosphere I think theres usually a coupon in the ValpaK The 2 times we went recently we used different coupons from there the saki coupon you can use with either of the other money off coupons. It reasonably priced anyway but the coupon makes it even better you get the valo pack in the mail or you can go online and get the coupon from there. I went back with another friend about a week later and we both loved our food and got $10 off our meal from the Valpak. Both of my friends agreed that this restaurant is better and you get a better deal and more food than the one we usually go to with in El Cerrito which we like also. Seems like this is a family own business and definitely people Should go there. I believe theyre close Mondays and their hours are Tuesday to Friday 11 AM to 2:30 PM then they close and reopen from 430 to 8:30 PM and according to the web, I think theyre open from 4 to 930 on Saturday and Until 830 on Sunday but I dont know for sure probably should call 1st.
Lao-Thai Kitchen
1406 Solano Ave, Albany, CA 94706, United States
Great location, Solano avenue in Albany is just a foodies dream, with a multi-cultural selection. Parking isnt hard to find, around homes, heck the Safeway parking lot. For the restaurant aesthetic, its cozy between a laundromat & fishing store, truly melts into this small town. The interior isnt large, our 6-party group had to squish into a 4-guest table, we were able to enjoy our appetizers before another table opened up; the wonderful staff put 2 tables together for us. When the food came, they pretty much came out the same time. Some of my relatives are picky, but they enjoyed their servings. I had the Pad See Ew (with Tofu), 3 had the Ka-Boon (noodles), while my Father had Pho (for some reason). I was able to finish my mothers Ka-Boon, and the coconut milk broth was amazing, the right amount of sweet; not to much; not to little. Almost everyone finished their meal. My Father kept asking us to try his Pho, hes picky about his Pho. I was stuffed, but wanted more; of everyones plate. Highly recommend to those who want something new, or simply loves South-East Asian cuisine. It should be familiar to those who love Thai-Food (hence Lao-Thai restaurant). Price wise I considerate it above average; not for my siblings, there was 6 of us for about $90. For my alone it was a solid average dine out, about $18. Enjoy.
White Lotus Thai Cuisine
843 San Pablo Ave, Albany, CA 94706, United States
My cousin and I live in Santa Cruz County. We had never been to Albany prior to 3/12/22, my birthday, when we attended a gig at the Ivy Room across the street. We hadnt eaten all day so we were STARVING. The White Lotus was nearly closed but served us an ample meal, plus kept the kitchen open for our dessert orders an hour after closing time. We had Pad Thai with Tofu, Sweet & Sour (sauteed) Shrimp, fried calamari, egg rolls, and took plenty of food home. We had mango sticky rice and fried bananas and coconut ice cream for dessert. Forgive my menu choices but I loved fried food. They had pages and pages of other choices. Service was excellent and our orders were delivered quickly and accurately, i.e. no green pepper on the sweet & sour shrimp. We were there until 10:20 even though they closed at 9pm, and never chased us out. Awesome staff, clean restaurant and facilities, food was presented beautifully with large wedges of fresh oranges. Delightful! Now we know where to eat in the East Bay.
House of Curries
1497 Solano Ave, Albany, CA 94706, United States
I really want to give this place five stars. It was almost perfect. I love indian food so I am open to a variety of styles and dishes. However, there was a single glaring fault that makes it lose a star. The samosas were excellent: crispy, pleasantly spicy, and full of flavor. Mint and tamarind sauces paired deliciously but werent necessary to enjoy them. They were just an added bonus. The naan was great. Crispy but still fluffy, generously stuffed, and huge. It was like getting two naan for the price of one.The lamb karahi was ALMOST perfect too. It had a ton of flavor, a great amount of spice, and plenty of bigs chunks of lamb that were so tender you could part them with a spoon. It also tasted like half a salt shaker fell into the sauce. It was closing in on being far too salty to eat. It took me three sittings to get through it all. It WAS delicious though and worth it.A little more careful with the salt next time and I will absolutely change this to a 5 star review. I want it to be 5 stars. It was all so delicious and carefully prepared otherwise. I am legitimately disappointed there was anything wrong because it feels like such a silly error to make with such excellent food.Im gonna give The House of Curries the benefit of the doubt and call it a fluke, an unfortunate accident where a hand slipped.I would still highly recommend this place. But if I notice oversalting again, I will have to lower it to 3 stars. So close to perfection.

Wojia Hunan Cuisine
917 San Pablo Ave, Albany, CA 94706, United States
Overcoming my initial disappointment on the closure of V- pot, one of my favorite quick Hunan soup spots, I was at first struck with the care taken to changing the interior, and totally rebranding the restaurant. Not sure what happened, but the place seems a little more upscale, and has a number of traditional Hunan dishes not often available on this side of the bay. (Like Aorta of ox)In the chinese food culture, and especially in Hunan cuisine, there is a strong snout-to-tail element, using bits and pieces of meat not generally liked by westerners. And many of the dishes on the menu reflected this, Pig intestine, tendon, and other offal are all featured.I opted to try one dish Im very familiar with, and one that I was not. I ordered Dan Dan nodles, (# 7 on the menu) a Hunan favorite, and was surprised to find that they came without pork, which was a slight oversight by a new cook, which was quickly taken care of once I pointed it out.Like Dan Dan noodles, are supposed to, they were covered in spicy chili oil, with some crushed peanuts and cilantro over some very fresh tasting noodles. It was delicious. The main course, (# 12 on the menu), spicy beef combination in clay pot, was a revelation.I used to come to this restaurant for the Mao Cai, spicy Hunan combination soup, which often came with noodles, in a large bowl. The version here came in a heavy steel bowl, and was quite a bit more refined, and less salty then its predecessor here under old ownership.Spicy, fragrant, and very subtle, with numbing peppers, and several different cuts of beef including tripe, skirt steak, and tendon, the combination came together beautifully in a soup that I highly recommend. Ill be coming back here to try out the other Hunan dishes, with the great waiter, Eddie, from Oakland.Give this place 4 out of 5 stars, and love the quiet atmosphere. its not cheap, but not expensive and definitely a special place to bring someone.SECOND VISIT: as fate would have it, I met a man waiting in line at the local produce store, and overheard him having a conversation about how he was the chef at Wojia Hunan.Sensing an opportunity I introduce myself and asked him if he knew how to make JaJang noodles, since it is difficult to find them prepared in the traditional Chinese way. He invited me down to the restaurant, and today I ordered so JaJang noodles, and the sauteed Hunan beef, and the noodles knocked my socks off. Simply amazing noodles. I noticed the place bustling with customers, and speaking with a Hunan native outside in the parking lot he explained to me how difficult it was to find authentic Hunan food, and that the name wojia itself means my home he was there with his entire family, proving once again, that when you are looking for Superior Chinese food, one only has to follow the local Chinese Community to the best spots. Wojia is an amazing place, with an amazing chef, and I look forward to getting outside of my comfort zone and trying some exotic stuff Ive never had before.Third visit: I tried the delicious steamed spareribs, covered in some combo of sticky rice and corn and the Chopped Bak Choy Both great. No misses here yet.Check it out! You will not be disappointed. (Never had an Ox aorta before. lol)
Caf Raj
1158 Solano Ave, Albany, CA 94706, United States
We sat down at 6:15 pm on Saturday. Our order arrived at 6:34. It was around 7:22 when a non- Indian ( but Asian)manager came to our table and said, If you are done eating, can you please leave ?. We could not believe what we were hearing !There was no line outside. We were totally blown away with this obnoxious & rude behavior of this manager who we have never seen before at the restaurant.Fortunately, Solano Ave. has other Indian restaurants, so thats what we will do.She was totally unacceptable & unethical. The family next to our table saw this as well & they were shocked to witness this, too .This is not the way to treat customers in this country.

Juanita & Maude

5 years after this lovely little place opened just a block from me, Im pleased as heck to update my review to 5 stars. Theyve deserved it off and on over the years, with the biggest fluctuations in quality and consistency being in the cocktails. But now they have a really solid bar team doing innovative and delicious things, and as this joins an always-outstanding food program, I couldnt recommend it more highly.Chef Scott is *still* producing great food at a generally reasonable price point (for this level of quality), with a variety of Latin and Asian influences keeping things interesting. And now the cocktails measure up as well! The Glass cocktail on the current menu, with strawberry-infused gin and sabayon custard is unlike anything Ive had before, unique and delicious. And the previous cocktail menu also had some real stand-outs. The wine program has always been solid, as I understand it, but Im a cocktail guy, so... ?On recent visits the food has been consistently inventive and delicious, with some memorable recent bites including the King Salmon Onigiri, Filet Mignon (they actually make it interesting and worthwhile!), and the now sadly departed (but mind-blowing) Umami Burger. The desserts, meanwhile, have *always* been excellent, and remain so with the combined team of Marvyn and Juliana bringing their respective experiences and cultural influences to create a more varied and exciting dessert menu than ever. The Smoked Chocolate Ganache was one of my favorites of late, but its ever-changing, so just trust that almost anything you try will be great. The stranger and more interesting it sounds, the more you should try it! Parmesan ice cream? Yes! (one of my favorite things ever from a prior dessert menu)The interior is nicely appointed and a good mix of casual with just the right amount of upscale feel to be good for date night, etc. The bar being situated right next to the door is a bit non-ideal however, since you get a regular blast of cold air as people come and go. The bar seats also arent particularly comfortable to lean back in, despite having seat backs which is not always to be found in bar seating. Nevertheless its nice to have a first-come bar option and a full bar at that. The back patio is the real win as far as seating goes, though. Covered and sheltered, but still open, nicely designed, good spacing between tables, heat if needed, but its usually not too chilly. A great outdoor, COVID-safe option! And the staff, well, theyre all delightful. This has always been a tight-knit and supremely welcoming group of people. Service is down to earth, professional but comfortable, and not at all stuffy. Lovely people. So J&M is highly recommended. Its now one of my favorite restaurants in the Bay Area!
