Asian Star Buffet
8524 Alondra Blvd, Paramount, CA 90723, United States
My name is Rodney & I am a recovering buffet-holic.Many were the days Id hit up the local AYCE for some calorie-laden, gut-busting sessions of food debauchery. Buffet restaurants would be in the red after I was done with them. However, Ive been good. I havent been to a buffet in awhile. Maybe its because Im more health conscious? Maybe its because I got all that outta my system?Asian Star Buffet had a coupon in the mail for $4.99 lunch, reg. price $7.99. Knowing a deal when I see one, it was time, once again, to seductively slip on the stretchy pants.Beef & chicken are the options over at the Mongolian BBQ section for an employee to cook on the spot. Plenty of vegetable items, such as garlic, bean sprouts, broccoli & onions. I dont know if it was the quality of meat or the cook taking too long with it, but the beef turned out rather tough. Knowing its a cheap buffet, I wasnt expecting much but after 1 plate, I was done with the Mongolian BBQ.Hot items had food catered to American tastes - pizza, chicken wings, apple pie, broccoli beef etc. Other selections included various soups, mushroom chicken, buchi & baked salmon. Nothing impressive, but decent. The sushi section simply had variations of California rolls. I was hoping for some tuna and/or salmon, but alas, only the vanilla of sushi rolls here. However, the desserts section was a winner! Macaroons, creme puffs, cakes, watermelon and other items to appease the sweet tooth. Also included, a froyo station with 4 flavors - chocolate, vanilla, banana & strawberry. Definitely not Yogurtland quality, but the chocolate wasnt bad.Lots & lots of seating! Enough for your family reunion. Enough for both your neighbors family reunions. Enough for your familys, your neighbors families & your cousins, sisters, brothers family reunion combined.Service was good. My attendant cleared my plates ASAP, and made sure I had plenty of water to drink. Plenty of parking.Asian Star Buffet is an okay Chinese buffet. I wasnt enthusiastic about anything offered during lunch. There are lots of buffet options closer to me. I suppose if youre in the area & want a cheap lunch, then perhaps this is the right place for you. As for me, I dont think Ill be coming back
WaBa Grill
15754 Paramount Blvd Ste B, Paramount, CA 90723, United States
This is one of my top favorite places to dine for over 10 years. Through the years Ive seen waba grill grow and expand enormously. This location has fast service, hreat customer service and never has shortages. However, this location is really struggling with keeping the the food cutting at a consistent rate. Ive been here about 4 times since they opened last year, at first I thought this would just take some getting used to. But after returning several times, I notice that nothing has changed. The meat, the veggies and the onions are all cut way too big. And this is really putting a damper on quality. I hope that the location will find use in this review and that some changes will be implemented. After all this is a really good place to eat just need minor tweaks to keep up the quality.

Where to start... 4 of us ladies decided to come here to eat late night (because they close at 10:30) we walked in a girlfriend wanted coffee they have a coffee machine so she puts in .25 cents and her coffee was served she bought 2 more both progressively lighter than the other. The last one looked like dirty see through water. The workers laughed when we told them. When we sat down it took us 20 minutes to get a waiter BUT there were 4 people chatting at the register (1 lady and 3 guys) we caught the man cleaning the tables and told him who was supposed to wait on us he said no ones come, its been a long time. We thought the same. So this guy comes takes our drinks. We order and the food comes out i ordered the #20 teriyaki rolls, they were gross, dry and burnt edges i banged some pieces against the plate and it it clinked against the plate. Its about 10:00 and we get the bill, we thought, we just got served what the heck! So he comes back 15 minutes later Were about to close the registers, if you could please make uour payment. He stood there looking at me and my girlfriend for a solid 3 minutes then he walked behing me to look at my other 2 girlfriends to do the same. We felt SO uncomfortable. We still had 15 minutes left, we dont see eachother that often. So we pay out bill and we want to pay 4 ways. They do not accept more than 2 cards per payment. So needless to say this place was not what we had in mind and we will NEVER be coming back to eat here. Well just take our $96 bill elsewhere, thank you very much

Cates Corner

New to Paramount is Cates Ice Cream. The owner is Cate and she greets you with a big smile. Its an absolutely wonderful experience with traditional flavors and Taste of Thailand. Its beautifully decorated with a large seating capacity. You can take your time and enjoy your ice cream with your special freind and I like that. My favorite and a must try is the Mango Sticky Rice Rolled Ice Cream. A very light and refreshing ice cream in a cup that includes real fresh slices of Mango and just a little Thai Sweet sticky rice. Yummy.

Great food!Calling in orders can be trying... as they get very busy, but it is worth the wait.(Old industry insider here... you never slam the kitchen, quality deteriorates)We havent had a bad meal from here yet. We look forward to dining in to try some dishes that arent good to transport.[Edit] Service is also great (sometimes)...I have been a regular here for a few years now and I just had a deal breaker that will more than likely stop me from ever returning.A quick FYI, we had bought two curries the night before and I was eager to try the fried rice while my GF got another curry and potstickers.I have always requested Cid (worker here) when I call in for pick up. I know this spot can be busy. But I am that guy who is loyal to servers and tip them well. When I asked for Cid I was met with a very rude woman who insisted she could take my order. I explained I would rather order with Cid (especially as she was very rude) and would be happy to call back to place my order when he may be available. She hung up on me before I could complete my thought.I called back, she answered and I inquired as to why she hung up on me. To which she insisted she would take my order. I passed and went to the establishment. I let Cid know I appreciated our interactions over the years (even in public when we crossed paths) and I would not be returning. The woman doubled down and interjected into our conversation saying it was her, and he was busy.I politely let her know I informed here over the phone I was willing to wait for Cid and being rude to customers is a poor business model.Truth is people have bad days... this could have been one for her. However, having been in the hospitality industry I do not trust food from places where there may be an employee unhappy with me not matter how polite I have been. Its disappointing, as we really enjoyed the food here and Cid has always been a great spirit.
Japanese Castle

I am honestly so, so impressed. Immediately, the atmosphere and customer service right off the bat are excellent. Having the Sriracha bottle on the table is an A++ from me. Complimentary refills and attentive servers are a highlight as well. Now, down to the food. My girlfriend and I judge a new sushi spot by their spicy tuna. I thought the flavor was right on point; It was fresh and perfectly seasoned. We also ordered the baked salmon roll, and the tsunami roll. Our personal favorite was the tsunami roll, its seriously so freaking good. The baked salmon roll was also so delicious. The only thing was our spicy garlic edamame was a bit overcooked and not saucy enough, but the flavor wasnt bad. The spicy mayo also didnt taste like the usual sushi spot flavor. But those are just 2 minor flaws compared to the many many successes. This place is probably going to replace our usual spot, Kikyo in Bellflower, just on customer service alone (the sushi quality is just as good). This is a hidden gem and we will be returning.
Treasure Pot Thai Restaurant
8540 Alondra Blvd, Paramount, CA 90723, United States
As someone who has lived in Thailand for 5 years & accustomed to home cooked Thai meals - this place passes with flying colors compared to other Thai restaurants in the United States (esp Southern & Northern California). I was super happy they had Kow Krok Kapi (shrimp paste rice) - it was almost perfect & still yummy enough to introduce a new dish to friends. We had a ton of food family style for a party of 5 adults & 4 kids: 3 appetizers (spare ribs, chicken wings), 3 noodle dishes (tom yum w wide noodles, boat noodles, dry egg noodle), 2 Thai salads (som tum, nam tok), 2 rice-based dishes (fried rice, krok kapi), 4 rotis, 2 big gulp size Thai iced teas (equiv to 6-7 glasses) - I might have missed dishes - amazing value for what we paid even *after* recent price adjustments common across restaurants in 2023. A winner if you are looking for reasonably priced authentic Thai food in the Long Beach area.
Oishi Teriyaki & Sushi
16289 Paramount Blvd, Paramount, CA 90723, United States
Good price for a meal but with plain or barely any flavor on the food. Came here with the family craving sushi and teriyaki, was impressed with the menu and pricing. Ordered cali tempura roll, teriyaki chicken plate, shrimp with chicken chow mein, miso ramen, and a spicy miso ramen. Most and only liked was the cali tempura roll. You can actually taste and distinguish the ingredients from one another. Chicken and shrimp chow mein was plain tasting no excitable flavor. Noodles had pale monotone flavor. Veggies were steamed, but again, there was no seasoning or flavor. Chicken teriyak was boring, and nothing gave my palate any excitement. Teriyaki sauce was watered down, wasnt a bit sweet, just gave the chicken a semi glazed look. Everything had a steamed rice taste, very monotone. Miso ramen soups were sad, and neither had any distinct flavor. The spicy one was not spicy at all, added Sriracha and chili oil, and barely any spice. Its true, you pay for what you get. I personally would not be back. I would advise you to try at your own discretion.
Downey Boba Loca
10033 Paramount Blvd, Downey, CA 90240, United States
About a year ago, my daughter wanted to try boba for the first time. This location was close to where we were running errands, so we tried it just out of convenience, and Im glad we did. I wasnt a fan of boba, so I wasnt much help in helping her pick a drink. The team at the location realized my daughter needed help, and they were extremely gracious in their efforts. They made suggestions based on flavors, appearance, and textures, and they really cared to help her find something she would like. My daughter loved her drink and has become quite the boba fan because of them. I even ended up trying a drink and realizing I just wasnt a fan of the traditional Tapioca boba (although its grown on me). My only complaint is that now my daughter always wants boba. Thank you all for the great experience and the daddy, daughter memory. As a matter of fact, maybe our family will come visit you today for Fathers Day!As a note, my family was just discussing having boba today. I looked up this location and saw a negative review that had been left by someone who had VERY much the opposite of my experience. I find it necessary to point out that one persons experience is not always the same as another. Be sure to check if a review is an outlier from the norm, and dont let it cloud your judgment. Also, take notice if someone has a tendency to mostly leave negative reviews. They might be bringing those negative experiences upon themselves, or they may have another motive (especially if they have multiple negative reviews of similar establishments).
