Matsu Sushi Japanese Restaurant
1914 Contra Costa Blvd, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, United States
This place used to be a lot better. But, this time the beef teriyaki was tasteless and the consistency of the meat was as if it had fake burn marks, reheated then had cheap bottled sauce poured over it. The tea was cold and it was hard to get their attention to get refills. On top of that they charged us for the tea. Most Japanese restaurants include it with meals. My wife had teriyaki salmon and that was just ok, as she has certainly had better both there and elsewhere. Maybe it was a bad night or a bad cook, so it is fair to say you can give them the benefit of the doubt. In the staffs defense they did try to accommodate us and showed us that the meat was indeed fresh. At first they blamed it on a new cook, then reversed their story and said the cook had been there for years. Then they told us different cooks mixed up different sauces...whatever. To their credit in a show of good faith they did give us a discount that cancelled out the tea, and I appreciated their gesture. It still does not take way the fact the food was below the standard of what I had eaten there before. However it was certainly edible mixed with soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi. Bottom line: there are a lot of Japanese restaurants out there we have left to try, so Im scratching this one off my list...not terrible, but certainly not great.
Thai Osha Restaurant
1968 Contra Costa Blvd, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, United States
Ordered dinner (to go) for 4 adults from this place last night and had a fantastic experience. I had my favorite dish, sweet basil eggplant and tofu - not spicy. (Which always seems to be hit or miss, I just dont like the way some restaurants make it for some reason.) It was perfect. The other dishes were 2 orders of the street noodles, one with prawns and one with chicken, green curry with calamari, and the tofu spring rolls. Everyone was raving about how delicious their dinner was. Also, their customer service was great. When I got home, I realized they forgot to give me the mango and sticky rice I ordered. But when I picked up my phone to call, I saw they had already called me to tell me about their mistake and offered to take it off my bill if I didnt want to drive back to get it. So I called (to say yes, please refund it) and they recognized my number, and answered the phone, greeting me by name. Which is perhaps not that hard to do, but that has NEVER happened to me before. I was very impressed.I give them my highest recommendation and will definitely be patronizing them again in the future.
Yokoso Japanese Restaurant
2380 Monument Blvd, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, United States
I came here during weekday lunch hour. It wasnt busy at all. We sat down right away and were greeted with our waiter. The menu has a good selection of sushi, appetizer, bento box, hot entree, etc. We ordered the Katsu Bento Box, which comes with salad, soup, and bento box. It was a good value considering the things they provided. The sushi was fresh and tender. This is not a fancy sushi spot where you expect to find the best cut of sashimi but I was pretty happy with the freshness and the sushi rice quality. I would come back for another time.
China Chef restaurant
1200 Contra Costa Blvd # K, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, United States
This place isnt updated and lacks any technology from this century. Orders are easily lost as they are taken on post it notes, online orders (from their own website) are sent to the restaurant via fax and arent always received. When my online order wasnt received, I had to wait an extra 30 minutes for my food (totalling over an hour wait for take out). A discount was offered as an apology, but I later found out that they give 10% on takeout anyways and wasnt offered anything in addition. This restaurant also lacks any support on a busy night (meaning 7 tables and a handful of takeout orders on a Saturday evening), they had 2 waitresses, a hostess, and one chef. They were unprepared for a sudden rush of customers and lost several orders due to their outdated system. Overall Im disappointed in service as well as food. The food wasnt that great and their soup smelt awful and tasted worse. I will not be going back.
Kobe Japan Pleasant Hill
1918 Oak Park Blvd, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, United States
If less than a full star was available, I would give it.As July draws to a close I am trying to use my birthday rewards at the various restaurants in the area who have sent me emails inviting me to come and redeem them. However, tonight when I tried to redeem my reward at Kobe Japan, something entirely different and hurtful took place. When I arrived alone with the reward email on my phone, I was informed that I had to order two entrees to receive the reward. Obviously, I was alone, but was asked, Is it just you? I asked to speak to the manager who came and told me I had to order two entrees to redeem the birthday reward. I told her I didnt want two entrees; I was not going to be around to eat leftovers the next day, nor did I want an extra entree. She maintained her singular policy: you have to order two. I inquired if she was having other patrons order extras to take home....she said she wasnt. I shared my experience at another Kobes in Hawaii where I wasnt treated as if I was a second class citizen because Im a single female, and she said all Kobes have different owners who establish their own policy. I asked to speak to the owner and this same woman informed me she was the owner. OK, then - you are able to allow me to redeem my birthday dinner reward without demanding I buy an extra entree. Again she told me I had to buy two entrees........and then added, If you dont want to buy 2 entrees, you dont have to eat here.Oh my, I said, You just lost your servers their tips, any income from any drinks I would order, and a whole lot of customers who will hear how you have treated me. I added she perhaps would be sorry someday about her discrimination toward single people and promised her I would share my experience at Kobe Japan in Pleasant Hill with others. Many of us are single for a myriad of reasons.....and Ive gone to many restaurants alone. Ive had servers charge me half price on the buy one/get one free deals when Ive been alone....its a compromise never mentioned by Ms. Kobe Japan. Ive had restaurants honor the free meal even though it said BOGO, because I was there alone. Thats what proper customer service promotes - treating the customer as a welcome guest who you would like to return, and also let others know how great everything was. Ms. Kobe Japan evidently has not realized this .Perhaps being a single, white, tall, blond, blue eyed female didnt please her because I wasnt Asian.....as she and all the other workers were. I wonder what would happen if an Asian senior citizen female came alone for her birthday reward - would she be told that she didnt need to eat there unless she ordered two entrees? Would she be told she had to order extra food and take it home? She really should be ashamed of herself....perhaps it will take one of her elders to put her in line.I wont be going back to Kobe Japan in Pleasant Hill.....I wont be considering it a place to have a group get together with lots of my friends purchasing drinks and entrees either. If I am not welcome as a single white female to simply redeem a birthday reward dinner, I certainly will not return, nor would I ever recommend it to others. ?

Jos Honda Sushi
150 Longbrook Way C, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, United States
Went there tonight with 2 family members. One of my family members politely explained he made a mistake when he ordered and actually meant to order something else.Waitress was extremely rude, yelled at our table, and exclaimed the issue with the order was, your mistake! and slammed the plate of food back on the table before storming off. When I politely asked if I could speak to the manager, she pointed to the manager, but yelled over me as I was trying to explain the issue. I had to tell her to not talk over me. I have never been so disrespected by a place of business. I am not usually one to complain about food or service, but this was downright awful. The food was also over-priced for the quality. A different waitress helped us the rest of the time and apologized on the others behalf. She offered us ice cream, which we all declined. Right before the bill came, the original waitress gave us a complimentary ice cream sandwhich and apologized. Overall, it was terrible, even despite the apology. Its just not OK to treat paying customers so terribly, expecially when you recognize one as being a fairly regular customer. The total bill was $73. Needless to say, we didnt leave a tip and none of us will ever return to this place. If I could rate this place zero stars I would.
Yaedam Korean BBQ
1428 Contra Costa Blvd, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, United States
OK, First things first. The food...Flippin AMAZING!I might be biased because Im Korean but seriously, the food is delicious. This place used to be a different Korean restaurant pre-pandemic but everythings new/different/changed now and this is yet another example.Back to the food...The banchan is well done and flavorful and has authentic flavors that is really hard to do well. The Kim Chee Jigae is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!! The richness of flavor without being over salted is what surprised me. They also had a korean beer that I never had before so that was pretty cool. You know I had to order the Kal Bi too. That was super good as well. The manager/owner said that an order would feed 1 and a half people but we found that itll easily feed 2 and in our case they brought out 4 decent sized ribs and it fed all 4 of us. Granted 2 of my party were little ones (actually 1 little one and my teenage son who could put away the groceries). One of the issues I had was that things I asked for didnt show up and I had to either ask multiple times for them or the wrong thing showed up. Eventually I asked to cancel a couple items off our order. If it werent for that I would absolutely give this a 5 star review. In the end it wasnt a big deal but I can see these things being exacerbated during high volume times like Friday or Saturday evenings. With that being said I think its a 4.5 star place.Well done, authentic Korean food is hard to do and good places are a rarity. I would be more than happy to drive an hour to come back with my family or wife on a date night/cruise.Support your local korean restaurant, give this place a try (just not on Friday or Sat night lol).

Yans Garden
2223 Morello Ave #1850, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, United States
Me and the two roommates ordered via grubhub from here. Theyve lived here 8+ years and me about 1.5 years. 1st time experience. Everything was really good expect the Scallop with Hot Spicy Garlic Sauce$14.75 Hot and spicy dish. There was nothing hot and spicy about the dish. Indeed the 2 rommies, neither of whom can handle spice, tasted it and confirmed that it was sweet and there was nothing spicy about it.No big deal. Ive worked in food virtually all my life. Mistakes happen.Imagine my surprise when I called the restaurant and I was told, after some hemming and hawing, that their hot spicy garlic sauce was very sweet. Furthermore there was nothing that could be done.Well, yes there could have been more done on the restaurants part like, truth in advertising, an offer to remake the dish...........I dont know, maybe just a simple apology. They came SO close to having 3 regular customers tonight. It was blown over something that could have easily been remedied.....if they had just tried.
