Roll & Bowl
2302 Encinal Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Originally: ⭐️1starAs much as I tried looking at the positive side I just couldnt.1. They took over an HOUR to make 5 ice cream rolls (okay, not a major issue I wasnt in a hurry and I know its because of Covid but thats not all). 2. There was 3 orders after us, they all got their food before us.3. After that whole hour waiting, we went home to enjoy our ice cream until we noticed we didnt even get what we ordered. They got half of our whole order wrong and the rest had missing ingredients/toppings. And this didnt happen just to me, it happened to a lady before us.4. And finally, I was still going to eat the ice cream because we paid for it, but the toppings had an odd taste. Like if they were old.Overall very bad experience. I never do reviews unless the food is really good (or good service) or If I had a terrible experience. Yall should go to Freezing Point Creamery in Oakland instead (for rolled ice cream and teas)!!! They have Excellent service, its fast, and you get more for what you pay. The food and drinks are soooo good. Sadly its closed but when it opens up, definitely going there again.‼️Update‼️Sept 23rd 2020It has been a month since they contacted me but I just saw their reply to my review. They read my review and responded and were so nice. They offered to replace my entire order for free and I do believe that it couldve been a busy day that day and overwhelming orders. Today it wasnt as packed and busy as it was the day I had went. I called 20 mins prior to order the rolled Ice creams and when I arrived they diligently gave me my order.Overall I take back what I said! This is such a great place for rolled regular or VEGAN ice creams and for quick yummy plates.

Chong Qing Noodles House

My wife was out of town and the kids were with the Grandparents and I had a craving for Chinese Soup Noodles, so after researching I decided to visit Chong Qing Noodle House. The restaurant is no frills, almost having diner vibes to it. Service is very friendly and responsive…Now to the food… I ordered the Crushed Cucumber with Garlic to start and the Pickled Veggies Shredded Pork Noodles with Medium spice. The Cucumbers are a 10! So good and would triple order it. The noodles are a solid 9! The noodles you can tell are freshly made and the broth is solid. The spice covers up a lot of the taste, which is a bit of a shame because on its own I think it would be very good.I’ll be coming back to try other offerings as the food is authentic and tasty!
Burma Superstar
1345 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
My family and I have been to this restaurant several times now and every single time the food is fantastic! The food is pricey, but you get what you pay for, and here thats really fresh, delicious food. Its a blend of what we would call Thai and Chinese based on everything we order. We have two small kids (ages 3 and 5) and what we typically order is the platha with dip, garlic noodles with shrimp (spicy sauce on the side that the adults pour onto our noodles later), coconut rice, and usually some sort of entree that we like to change up each time. The food is good and kid friendly!

As a ABC SGV native, this is reping SGV proud. My husband, grew up in LA and not Asian, also LOVED it, said it was his top and favorite restaurant hes been to.This is a 2-3 Michelin Star Level Experience + Food, exactly what I was looking for a birthday dinner.Technically a 1-star for now because chef Jonathon Yao and his chefs are gunning for their second star and it shows in their new menu.To point out Chef Yao is actually there, running the kitchen, prepping/and helping staff, unlike many founder-less Michelin star restaurants weve been to. Hes hands on, and man it was so great to see him there. If it doesnt break your bank, try their dining experience. We came here for my partners birthday. There was a gradual crescendo of feeling warmth through taste not temperature, a round feeling similar to a baritone sound, that built up as I kept tasting their curation, this feeling would stay with us between changes. Maybe its too philosophical, but the feeling reminded me of my parents soup and the warmth it would bring us during difficult times. It was a way they showed love. My husband equally enjoyed this unique warmth feeling in this experience. Its hard to explain but thats what we felt that made it unique. You just have to try it.Plus, each dish felt very creative, flavor explosion, executed very well, and honestly I couldnt imagine this taste experience from even pictures and the menu alone. If you take even the cultural elements away from it, which itself was beautiful, the technique alone was impeccable and very competitive to many 2-3 star Michelin experiences. I didnt know our food can be elevated this way, and it was a very rewarding experience to be able to taste this. My husband loved it all, and the sweet gesture of the card and birthday hamburger!Props to Jonathan and the chefs. There are two add ons available for additional seat, if want to try anything, I highly recommend the Wagyu one for $55. Elevated Char Siu and Elevated Taiwanese Marinated Beef (like the one from beef noodle shop). My non-Asian husband had a very intense positive reaction from the Taiwanese, and I had an intense positive one with the Char Siu. Add on it you can.Another prop, the service staff is amazing. They all have great personalities, professionalism, and seriousness/joy to their own craft. I appreciated everyone. The attention to detail— insanely well done. Finally, a place that has Chopsticks available all times. I didnt have to ask for it. Everyone had it available and it was presented in the center. Some bias to address when I did my research prior and now that lve experienced it first hand: You do not have to be Asian to enjoy these dishes, the food technique alone competes and supersedes many Michelin restaurants weve been to. Dismiss the othering that occurs. I have enjoyed Italian dishes, without saying I had to be Italian to enjoy the food. This applies to many cuisines that I didnt grow up with. Thats why my non-Asian husband loves this place, even though he didnt grow up with this food. Were casual Michelin diners, because we know Michelin has a type, its western, and if there is preference for Asian, its always sushi. Then KBBQ now.Yao and his chefs has opened a door for us in this space, and they know they deserve a spot. They executed. We know that trying to figure out the balance of being Asian American is not only a challenge, but least understood and dismissed. Taiwanese food — amazing! It's a beautiful country.Historically racist america has looked down on mandarin speaking cuisines in America as cheap, weird, unhealthy, or plain othered all while continually coming back to eat more of our food.Modern times, its changing with our generation. Im glad to see it, and Im glad to see so many allies who understand and are apart of the story. This place invites our culture to be seen in the way it deserves. Elevated. Celebrated. Open. Welcoming. With love. With community. Thanks to all for the wonderful experience.
Smorgasburg (Los Angeles)
777 S Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90021, United States
They're back!!We went opening weekend and it was a hot mess!!Parking:There are 2 separate entrances for parking. The back side of the lot doesn't have lines. The main entrance has long lines all the way to the stoplight. We were going to turn in but the security waived us to go further down where we found minimal lines of cars. Def recommend. We arrived at 10:00am. Pre-covid this would've been fine. Not so much nowadays. Go early if you want less lines!Lines:Expect to wait at the popular booths. Some weren't there as advertised or were so difficult to spot. There's an info booth near the entrance but otherwise no staff on the grounds making sure things are clean or in order like at Off the Grid events in the bay.Lines would be so long that they literally block the whole walkway and then some! Ppl are so rude to not even leave a gap for ppl to walk thru even though there is supposed to be way for ppl to literally walk by. Ppl will deliberately close their gaps for you to not walk by. There were multiple times I experienced this. There are no designated spots for lines or walking so it's you on your own. You've gotta have thick skin to get by here.I really do think it could a fire hazard or some type of safety hazard to not leave any walkway space. The alternative? You walk in the middle median where it's a drainage or water and curb markers. Tripping hazard much? And definitely n it ADA compliant. I'm trying this in hopes that someone in the event management will do something to address the crowd control and lines. It makes the event less enjoyable and safe.Perfect Sunday lunch spot! Only open 10am-4pm. Free admission.I only go right when they open cuz lines and parking get hectic. 1 hour free parking. Validation with nearby cafes. Love the_base drinks here! Wish there were more tables and shaded seated.
Daiso
333 S Alameda St Suite 114, Los Angeles, CA 90013, United States
Then: I love this store. We were actually welcomed when we walked in. They have really cute stationary and tea cups and houseware. The cashier was very nice and even helped us find somewhere nearby to eat. Would absolutely shop here again. Now: Thats how I felt the last time when I gave Daiso 5 stars. Unfortunately I had the complete opposite experience this time. I was there with my whole family, and some guy decided he needed to blatently follow me around the store like I was a theif. I am not. I understand they have a job to do, Im not new to LA shopping. But usually someone checks you out discretely and moves on when they see youre there to shop. This guy literally just walked right behind us as we shopped through half the store until I finally began to feel offended instead of amused and said something. Then he ran away with no apology. The cashier was gross. Her belly was hanging out of her shirt, and she had a really miserable, nasty, unhelpful attitude. The complete opposite of my experience the first time I was here. And I was telling everyone how much I loved it too. Not anymore.
Sotta
2009 W Alameda Ave, Burbank, CA 91506, United States
I would've given Sotta zero stars for this review but that option isn't available. I arrived early to pick up my order and it wasn't ready yet (understandably.) Then my pick up time came and went still with no order. ONE hour went by and the full order still wasn't ready. In fact, I had to leave and send someone back for the remainder. When I inquired after my pickup time passed, I was told it was being bagged and would be up shortly. Fast forward to someone bringing out a partial rendition of my order and throwing it out on the table in front of me. It was a large order so I asked that a member of their staff go through it to ensure it was complete. They brushed me off and after awhile of waiting I started checking it myself. They have the names that go with each order right in their system (it printed right out on the receipt.) However, they refused to label them or even help me sort it out. Now a clear 45 minutes after the order was supposed to be finished, they have the audacity to tell ME to hurry up because “the quality of the food was going down.” As I frantically attempted to sort and label this order, the manager sat at a table unwilling to help and multiple members of their wait staff took breaks RIGHT beside where I was doing the restaurant's job for them. The food in the end was alright but certainly not anywhere near worth this atrocious customer service or complete waste of my time. They took my $650 and offered no actual help. In fact I had ask for the bags that the order had allegedly already been placed in. There are waaaay too many other Mediterranean restaurants in the area to put up with this. Do yourself a favor and choose a different restaurant.

Great Chinese malatang and noodle restaurant! Recommend the sliders for something light but filling.
CANTON FOOD COMPANY
750 S Alameda St, Los Angeles, CA 90021, United States
Love love this place. If you love Costco and you love Asian food. This is the place for you. This is a equivalent to that. It most of your Asian groceries but in bulks plus restaurant supplies. They have frozen seafood, wonton wrappers, noodles (fresh & packaged), Asian veggies by the boxes, fortune cookies (LoL), beverages, to go containers, cleaning supplies, and so much more to list. I probably left so much more out because I don't own a restaurant. But this place is massive, 1/3 the size of most big Costco. They do take credit card but only visa and MasterCard. Minimum charge is $50. I don't think you're to have that problem you're going there. I bought things I didn't know I needed but it was much cheaper than my Asian market (not sure if you can see the big bottle of chili paste in my picture lol). I normally pay $2.99 for the small bottle but that big bottle was like $8. It probably have like a minimum 8-10 of the small bottle in there. Where else are you going to find a box of fortune cookies 270 pieces for $10 bucks. I'm totally giving those for halloween this year. But the one I bought are for the temple for the new year coming up (no need to worries I'm not saving them till Halloween lol) once again happy shopping on a budget :-)
Yojimbo
1221 Park St, Alameda, CA 94501, United States
Update:Yojimbo has opened a new branch just a few steps away from its original. 2139 Santa Clara Ave, former space of American Oak.Check it out!!!****************£We certainly love going to this place! Yojimbo is one of our favorite ramen and Japanese food restaurants around the Bay Area! We have been coming here for several years and have invited friends. All of the people we invited to eat here were very impressed and others kept coming back, some drove from Vallejo and Fremont. Our frequent visits was stopped due to the pandemic, in that two years of pause my wife managed to be nearby and got me some ramen to-go but as best as it was packaged, we know that ramen is best eaten right away after serving. Well, we visited last week and we came back yesterday to make up for lost time! hahaThe ramen is still as good as we remembered it, the only change is that it now comes in two sizes, regular and large. It used to be just one size which was LARGE and you needed to use a big soup spoon. We used to have more than enough for two meals. On both recent visits, we ordered the regular size which is still a generous portion. The broth is delicious, noodles are nice, the chasu is delicious also. People who come here regularly will agree that they are consistent with the taste and good quality of the ramen.Wait, theres more! For non-ramen lovers, there is also quite good selections of japanese dishes and as others have complimented, it is fresh! I rarely order sushi here because I usually come for ramen, but when I do, it has always been fresh! There are also a good selection of appetizers to enjoy. I tried the pork bun last week and it was very good! I wanted to try the spicy tuna bun yesterday, but it was out. Oh well, more reasons for my wife and I to go back next week .. hehe.Lastly, as shown on my photos, Yojimbo has some very cool Japanese anime inspired art work throughout the place drawn by the owner himself! There are also some action figures on display for fans of Japanese anime. I wanted to ask the owner if he will be able to make one for me one day as I do love his Samurai warriors art works.Go, go, go to this place! You have to try it at least once and you will not regret it! Oh - really last thing! At some point they opened up more space on the side of the building but it was closed and we were told that it has been closed for quite some time BUT they are planning to open a bigger location not too far from its current location. From what we were told they do not have plans to close the current location, I do hope that they dont because it does have its own charm.
