Szechwan Inn Chinese Restaurant
22323 Sherman Way #18, Canoga Park, CA 91303, United States
So I love to support local businesses, and decided to check out this Chinese food place since I was craving some classic Chinese food.Walked in, and the place was EMPTY on a Sunday evening. We got seated and immediately noticed the dining room was stuck in the early 90s felt like it hadnt been updated in over 30 years. The walls were dirty and all scratched up. Paint is cheap, I never understand why business owners cant see what everyone else sees. Look around, dont you go to other restaurants ever to see how they look or to get inspired??The chairs are unfortunately part of the decor problem so ugly and dated from 30 years ago. They handed us paper menus, which said a lot. But I wanted to give them a chance. The food came out. We ordered the spare ribs, which seemed like they were nooked in a microwave part of the meat, which was dry and HARD.The main courses came out, and the portion was decent, but the flavors were very dull and nothing to write home about. Barely any veggies and so much sauce. The sesame beef dish and the pinnapple chicken dish lacked flavor, didnt taste fresh. Even the pinaples in the chicken dish had no flavor and didnt even taste like pinaples. Just tasted like the mediocre sauce it was covered in.The service was ok until the food came out, then a party of 6 came in, and it was like we no longer insisted. I kept trying to get the waiters attention to get a refill. No one ever came to check on us until we were finished. That is when the cook came over and asked how everything was. I wasnt gonna offend him, but everything being done at this place is completely outdated and stuck in the 90s, including the cooking.People want fresh healthier options -- go to other Chinese restaurants that have updated decor and menus. If you want to stay in business you have to stay above the competition, not behind it.

Wow it is so great to have another plant based restaurant nearby! Although you could consider this fast food (maybe 5-10 for my order to be ready)... the food is made to order and MAN IS IT GOOD!I got the garlic noodles and would definitely get it again. Definitely prominent in the shallot and garlic department, but if you are like me and like them then this is the dish for you!I spent about 18 bucks with tax and a $1 tip. A little pricey for mall food but ManEatingPlant & Topanga Social absolutely break that mold.Excited to try the other options, Ill make a point to update my post. (The beer was from one of the bars a few feet away!
Franks Weilers Deli & Catering
21161 Victory Blvd, Canoga Park, CA 91303, United States
If one of two thriving restaurants within 10 minutes of each other closes - clearly something wasnt working.Either demand for authentic NY Deli has lessened, or theres more desirable eateries around, or the pricing has gotten to a tipping point where quality is not worth whats being asked.I LOVED this place. I mean- loved. It always seemed a better deal than Brents (also pricey, also quite a drive) - but at least management was friendly, and we never had major issues other than the random missing side order etc.Food is standard fare, nothing special. Atmosphere is a crammed coffee shop, nothing special. And the Staff - you will come to know- is not welcoming should you need to resolve or request anything. The pricing is exorbitant - of course economy is the culprit, as well Servers getting a decent work wage with California enforcing raised minimum wages. That leaves the consumer in a tough place all the way around. But if a Jewish Deli now needs to charge $1.25 FOR A PICKLE to go with your 45$ bagels and lox - this is not a Deli that is bound for longevity (check around; Moët's, Brent's, etc include pickles if you've spent over $40 on one item!). And as I mentioned, the other location, a staple in Woodland Hills, just permanently closed.Add to that a Manager who only works til 2 PM leaving any confusion to two young gals who have to apologize they cannot reach a manager- you are left with a place that clearly doesnt value Customers. A problem did arise; they did try to reach him. The next day when we call in to deal with the problems, this Manager says about 4 times, Im not attached to my cel phone... ???The ODDEST response to a loyal customer just trying to be loyal and figure out how to move forward with the challenges. This Manager (Nemo, could be spelled differently) claims hes been working there 15 year, and says (about 9 times) in this same conversation he has no idea who I am. My department has ordered at least 20 platters over the past 10 years for various high holidays and events. But this “pro” keeps insisting he has no idea who I am.Cool. So not only is he not attached to his phone (did anyone ask him to be?? - but hey- if you manage a restaurant and your front desk tries to reach you before 6 PM, if you care, you MIGHT check your phone every now and then) but he also has no familiarly with loyal customers of 10 years.Add to that that he challenges me with, If its your credit card, you should be able to tell me the exact time you made your purchase - and this all before Ive had a moment to share the problem. So Im challenged about whether or not I actually got dinner there last night, what the cost was, the EXACT time.He argues and insists he literally has no charges between 6:45 and 7 pm (not true, well come to discover) and now Im having to PROVE I ordered there - before Ive had a chance to share what the issues were.So I call my credit card company, get the exact time I made the purchase. Meantime, he calls back, hes now found my charge.Apparently, defensiveness and suspicion are the only gears this Manager is comfortable in.At the end of an exhausting, unpleasant conversation due to his 20 rounds of suspicious questions, he tells me they SHOULD have charged me for extra tomato...!!This, ladies and gents, is NOT a place welcoming your business. This is a place very happy to overcharge you for one SMALL!! pickle, charge you $5 per can of soda (that you can get at Gelsons for $1.50)- god knows what they would have charged for the extra tomato slice.Either way- as the saying goes, you won your battle, Nemo / Frank Weillers... and lost the war. All future orders go to other Delis. Period. If an Owner is reading: this Manager is not doing you favors, other than alienating loyal customers. Theres other ways to handle what happened ... insisting to a loyal a customer they are unknown, putting them on the defensive - ?Seriously. As my grandmother would say: such a shame, another good place gone to pot.Thank You.Kathryn Kelly
Royal Dragon Chinese Restaurant

Two thumbs up????First time here, they pack the container with lots of food. I got chow mein, beef broccoli & spicy chicken (I think that was the name had a tag saying it was new). All items had amazing flavor. I really loved the chicken, it was crispy, flavor was not spicy unless you ate it with a jalapeno, was more of a sweet teriyaki pepper flavor. I got my boyfriend the same but Kung Pao chicken instead of the spicy chicken & he too loved all of it. Reasonable price too both items cost $15+change...Will definitely be back. (Dont mind the onions in my pic, I dont like onions & always take them out Lol)
The Cheesecake Factory
6600 CA-27 Suite 51, Canoga Park, CA 91303, United States
My rating for this restaurant is an actual 0. I don't like giving bad reviews for no reasons but what I went through today was absolutely unacceptable. The saddest part is that this is the second time this is happening. Here is my story, Today I booked an appointment at 2pm. I got there on time and the girl who was at the Reception told me that “ the good thing is that you have an appointment, so your waiting time is 10 minutes. We will call you early than that time!” I was like alright 10 minutes it's okay I will wait. I waited there until 2:20 ( I was just trying to be understanding of the fact that they were busy). When I went and spoke with girl again. She said I am so sorry, we are cleaning up your table and we will Call you in 10 min. Long story short I was let in 2:40 rather than my original appointment time which was 2:10. When I spoke with the manager her excuse was being busy and the worst part is that she didn't even say I am sorry or anything nice rather she gave me and my family an extremely rude attitude. Then we went inside and saw about 8 (with 4 sits)tables open and nobody was cleaning them and making them ready for the costumers! It was so frustrating to see that! The worst part is when I asked my waiter to change our table she said the manger said we can't do that unless you guys wanna wait another 10 min. My whole family and I were extremely dissatisfied and for the first time we left a restaurant before even getting any services! This is not the only place where you can get good food. We went somewhere else with an awesome costumer service and great food! I am so disappointed with Cheesecake Factory! I will never, ever let anyone that I know go to this restaurant ever again! The manger and her crew not only dissrespected us but also had an extremely discriminatory behiavor towards us! ( I would include more info but I don't want take your guys time)Please do yourself a favor and don't come to this restaurant!
Grandma Kims Family Diner
8384 Topanga Canyon Blvd, Canoga Park, CA 91304, United States
This is the talk of the town Korean BBQ family diner for home cooked Korean Food. Once an establishment known for its article in the daily news of the granddaughter, Jennifer who had once grazed the kitchen with her grandma is now operated by some unknown people I wouldnt consider homely. I do miss the feel of Grandma Kims where Jennifer would be there asking my mom, dad, brother and I what we wanted to order. Of course we would order the marinated beef which is bulgogi. The best thing ever known to man-kind. We have had other dishes such as galbi which is marinated beef rib. The side dishes were always re-filled, the soup and rice were both delicious. That was in 2002. 12 years later, food is a bit dry... the side dishes have to be re-filled.. but the wait time is nearly long and you have to keep reminding the staff to refill the side dishes. The food takes a longer time to make and the staff will give you attitude because you want to refill side dishes, or you ask for more tea. I would be better at this, since I have worked at a Chinese Restaurant. Customer satisfaction and happiness comes first. You want a happy customer, not a disgruntled customer. You want them to return or give out referrals. Anyways, the thing that I have been craving the most is the korean cold noodle. The Korean cold noodle is a buckwheat noodle cooked in soup, and then cooled down with ice which in the end makes the noodle.. oh so tasty. i would recommend this dish. and like any other noodle with broth orders, u drink the soup. OMG I was in heaven... so grandma kims.. please work on the attitude and service.. i hope future customers wont experience what I have had.. recently.. BRING BACK JENNIFER!!!! and Grandma!!
China Express Restaurant

Ordered BBQ pork and teriyaki chicken. My first bite of pork I thought to myself hmm that tasted a tad bit off but oh well took another bite...big mistake. This overwhelming DISGUSTING TASTE took over and I literally gagged so hard the food shot back out of my mouth. The smell of the meat now was just horrendous and rancid after having bit into to it a few times.I tried the teriyaki which was hella bland and had a huge layer of fatty skin underneath.Needless to say almost $9 straight to the trash.Place looks a bit sketchy which typically you get the best grub from, well this was NOT the case.My stomach hates me atm.

We have been ordering food here for a few years and the food itself is good. The problem is the customer service. two times ago we ordered take out from here when they delivered the food there was a mistake. We called them and finally they agreed to give us a credit the next time we ordered. The last time that I ordered when I brought up the credit they said they knew nothing about it and wouldnt take off the money for the order. I was not happy. Tonight while I was at work my daughter on speakerphone, ordered a lot of food to be delivered and she ordered a vegan moo shoo dish and when my daughter ordered it she told the man who took the order that there cant be eggs in the dish. Of course when the food arrived the moo shoo had eggs in it. My wife called up and spoke to a women that said that she would send someone with another order without the egg. My wife thanked her and we continued to eat. After a few minutes the man who my daughter originally gave the order to called us and told us that they wont bring us another dish and he said that my daughter never told her to leave the eggs out of the dish when there were five people in the room when she placed the order and everyone heard her say it. He said if we wanted we could come right over because they are closing soon and pick up a new dish but he repeated that we never told him about the eggs and basically said that my wife was lying. And we werent about to make a 20 minute each way trip to get the dish from a mistake that they had made when we were in the middle of eating. Unfortunately even though the food is good, we wont b er ordering food from here ever again.I own my own business and would NEVER treat one of my customers like that. He just lost 5 customers that were here eating with us but also all of the people that we will tell never to eat here.

Eh... I feel bad and torn. On the plus side, the quality of the sauces here is actually pretty good. As an example, the veggies in my Spicy Basil (with Beef) dish were fresh. The bell pepper was crisp and the sauce wasnt inundated with oil or salt. I could see fresh Thai Red Chili chopped in the sauce along with some ginger. Well made. On the downside, the jasmine rice is ok but either its the quality of the rice used or something else...but it does not taste particularly fresh. More importantly, the meats (chicken, beef...no pork offered) taste straight out of the freezer and come across as dry and flavorless. Ex. The Chicken satay smells of the microwave and freezer. If theyd use fresh meat in their prep, this place would be a step up in taste and quality. The owner (?) who Ive occasionally seen is very polite and attentive. The other staff are generally friendly and well meaning, but Ive had a few mistakes made with orders in the past. Prices are quite reasonable. Currently everything is take away only.

I came over around the afternoon, after being done seeing customers walking out with stuffed bags. I finally decided to try the food. The staffs are really nice, the food is BUSSING.I would definitely recommend the teriyaki chicken, spicy beef, or black pepper chicken. For soup, it would be miso soup, egg drop soup, wonton soup, and the beef noodle soup. If you looking for a crispy snack i would say the cheese wontons. Theyre super crispy and flavorful. The cheese is warm and melts inside your mouth. I would say the best combo would be steamed rice, shrimp and veggies, with teriyaki chicken. The chili oil makes everything taste 10x better! Be sure to ask for extra or youll regret it.THIS IS NOW MY GO-TO PLACE FOR LUNCH!
